We visited Arandas in Healdsburg for happy hour, and while it was a little tricky to find at first, it ended up being worth the effort. The restaurant is located inside a hotel -- you walk through the front doors, past the lobby, and you're there -- but the signage isn't very obvious from the outside. Luckily, someone noticed us looking around and kindly came out to ask if we were looking for Arandas, which was super helpful and welcoming. We ordered a couple of drinks and two appetizers from the happy hour menu. The birria tacos came with consomé and were absolutely delicious -- tender, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The chips and cheese, on the other hand, weren't my favorite. The flavor was fine, but the cheese hardened quickly after cooling, which made it less of a dip and more of a sheet of melted cheese. My husband enjoyed it more than I did, but I personally prefer a more sauce-like queso for dipping. The service was excellent -- attentive without being overbearing -- and the overall atmosphere felt like an upscale Mexican restaurant with a warm, polished vibe. The happy hour drink prices were also fantastic, especially for Healdsburg. First time, and really enjoyed the experience. As a location to eat for any occasion it was lovely. I had a simple dinner. Two street tacos. The fish taco as recommended (battered) and the curried butternut squash, these were served with beans and rice. Both were delicious and would be happy to have either again. Ok we're semi-new to the area (not new to Healdsburg in general, been coming here several times a year for 4 years), big foodies, lived in big cities with lots of great food. Arandas recently replaced our beloved Chalkboard, the restaurant attached to Hotel Les Mars. We were sad to see Chalkboard go, but excited to have a new option to try. They updated the space with some dark dramatic wallpaper, new seating, and new chandeliers. Very pretty! The menu offers a few starters, 3 seafood appetizers, 3 salads, 3 taco options, and 3 mains. We shared the guacamole for $16. It was beautifully presented with edible flowers on top. It was a more pureed consistency than I'm used to - I prefer a little more texture to my guac. But it came with fresh, thin, salty chips, which we loved. I had the CALABACITAS (summer squash tacos) and my guy had the POLLO (achiote grilled chicken tacos). The tacos come deconstructed, build-your-own style. The portions didn't look huge but proved to be quite filling. We really enjoyed the flavors of both the squash and chicken, and the homemade tortillas. I would order both of these options again. To drink we tried the classic margarita - really fresh and not overly sweet, one of the better margaritas we've had recently - and a non-alcoholic cocktail. Thumbs up to both! I hear that that Arandas Happy Hour is worth a visit, so I'll try that next. read more

Ambiance was really nice and great outdoor space. Food was very tasty and we especially liked the appetizers (guacamole, corn, ceviche). It was one of the few nice restaurants that could accommodate a dog, two infants, and a large party, so we thought we got lucky finding this place on our 4th of July weekend vacation. The only downside was we came for my mother's birthday and were told we needed to pay a cake cutting fee if we brought our own cake, which was totally fine. I brought a cake that was nicely decorated with fresh flowers and a happy birthday message for my mom. It was $70 because it was a custom cake. Everything was going well throughout the meal except a hiccup with getting one of the orders wrong in our party (brought a chimichanga instead of what my brother's MIL wanted). No big deal. Then came a bad turn when the staff brought out my mother's birthday cake already cut! She never got to see the beautiful decorations and custom message because the staff made a mistake and cut the cake first (by the way I have been to a lot of restaurants for birthdays and have never seen this happen). It was a smaller mistake, but when I proceeded to ask what happened, they gaslighted me and claimed they didn't see a message on the cake and acted like they didn't do anything wrong. I was not happy with how they handled it and felt we shouldn't pay the cake cutting fee if the service was so bad for it. The waitress who came to give us a bill when I told her this gave me an incredibly snarky tone (you can tell she was already ready to be defensive) and said "oh we already waived the cake cutting fee. Why do you want something else? I'll get my manager" and when I said it was fine as long as the cake cutting fee was waived kept saying she would get her manager like 3 times very aggressively. The only saving grace was when the manager came, he was very professional. He apologized for what happened (which was all we wanted really) and handled everything swiftly. He did offer other compensation, other than waiving the cake cutting fee, but we said it was fine and the food was delicious. Sunday late afternoon, my husband and I are staying with Les Mars of Healdsburg. 5:00 we decided to have a bite to eat at. Arandas down stairs from Hotel Les Mars. We were offered indoor or patio. Patio was lovely weather, so we chose out doors. My husband had oysters to begin (they happened to be on happy hour, (3 for $7.00) they were displayed beautifully over small pebble coastal stones. We had chips and guacamole...delish, along with a margarita for myself and a whiskey for my husband. We shared skirt steak tacos with a side of rice and beans. Delish. Unfortunately we were hoping to enjoy Tamales, however they were out from previous evening. For desert we were looking forward to empanadas for desert with vanilla ice cream and fresh fruit. they were out of empanadas.. With that we enjoyed our shared meal which was plenty for us. We then returned to our lovely room up stairs, which we have stayed many times in the past. Then walked our fur baby across the street to the park. We love to frequent this location. It's become a favorite spot of my husband and myself since opening up. Dare I say,m they have THE best happy hour we've yet to encounter here in Sonoma county. Went with 5 people on a Monday Cinco de Mayo. Made a reservation. Restaurant was full but no one waiting. We were sat immediately and then waited for someone, anyone to acknowledge that we were there. 20 minutes later waitress never came and we just left. The atmosphere was nice and comfortable. However there we a few people standing around waiting to pay bills and they were complaining that no one came back to take their money. Arandas is a new restaurant in the heart of downtown Healdsburg. Their restaurant is inside a hotel but has its own entrance. The vibe is a casual nice . And parking is easy as there is a large public parking lot right across the street ( walking distance). I liked their menu - the ceviche was really good as well as the guacamole. I orders the halibut which was cooked perfectly! There is a chicken or veggie taco on the menu but not a meat taco. We wanted dessert but were disappointed to see Italian desserts on the menu instead of Mexican desserts . I recommend churros be added to the menu . Our service was excellent ! We ate here on a recent Saturday night. Our reservation was for 7:30. There were 3-4 tables occupied (sort of sad for a Saturday night in Healdsburg but it was the Saturday after the storm). We were seated promptly near their front entrance; wait staff gave us menus and took our drink orders. I ordered a classica margarita ($14) and my friend ordered a "double trouble margarita "$20) which we sipped while we read the menu. After about four sips I noticed my that my margarita was done (see photo - liquid at the bottom is melted ice)). I'm not a big drinker but wow, $14 for what seemed like a one ounce margarita! My friends margarita was made well and the normal size. My friends thought their food was okay but not special. I ordered the tacos ($22-24) - you get four and are able to get mix the four options (a plus!). I got two chicken and two butternut squash ("calabaza"). The chicken tacos were what you'd expect - not special but fine. Unfortunately the butternut squash ones were not good; I let the rest of my party have them and they said that the problem was that they were under cooked. Oops. We ordered two desserts. My friends declared the Flan ($15) the best they'd ever tasted (and they're foodies) and I agree it was excellent. I ordered the churos ($15) and they too were great. Here's where it got sort of weird. By 8:15-20 we seemed to be the only table left. I noticed a draft on my legs so I covered it with my jacket and we eventually concluded that they had perhaps turned on the AC since we were the only ones left. Odd, right? Overall the wait staff was nice and prompt (3*), the food was variable (2*) the desserts were amazing (5*) but the value is not there (2*). However, the young longhaired waitress/bartender had the door propped open allowing 60 degree wind on rainy day (10/26/25) to blow through to restaurant. She was lacking service and did not check on us after bringing latte, so I walked over to close the door. She went right back and propped open. She was much faster serving the door than our table! She was actually wearing a jacket, so not sure why this was so important....so after getting our $72 breakfast, I asked if it could be closed to avoid our eggs from getting cold. She hesitated as though I'm being unreasonable wanting it to be warmer than 60 with a strong breeze, then suggested closing the door from the bar to restaurant. I mean we are taking accommodating paying guests for maybe 10-15 min???? Fine...EXCEPT she then passive aggressively cranked the AC in the restaurant instead, so now again freezing cold air blowing on our meal. As a result, I could not eat my eggs fast enough and couldn't finish my expensive breakfast due to this extremely rude waitress. I went to apologize for asking to close the door in the first place and thank her for the accommodation while pretending she didn't turn on the AC, but she wouldn't even stop at our table again nor look me in the eye. So no more service after this simple request for a warmer atmosphere. I would never expect an expensive hotel restaurant to have such horrific service, but hope she was proud of herself for not letting any warmth into our Sunday. It's a little incongruous to have a nouveau Mexican restaurant in a hotel with a French name, but don't let that misdirect you! We had an absolutely delightful meal that was served in a particularly friendly atmosphere. We had the guacamole, the heirloom tomato salad with goat cheese, the shrimp cocktail and the papas. Each dish was fixed with a flair that demonstrates that this chef is promising and obviously talented. The guacamole was as good as we've had anywhere else with excellent homemade chips. The three other dishes had especially flavorful sauces. The papas were similar to Patatas bravas but it was served with smoked trout roe. Nice extension of a regular dish at other restaurants! Happy hour SUCKS. I was there on a packed Wednesday Night Happy hour. First time. I am a local. I was looking forward to it.. We first thought the Happy hour prices for food were expensive, and we were correct as the portions were super small. I ordered the Sangria , and they told me they were out since "someone threw out the batch". Not sure what that means. When we finally got our bill, they had overcharged ALL of our food (but a few dollars each.., i wonder if they do that so people wont notice?). Their excuse was that "well that is what is says in our system", so does that mean EVERYONE sitting at the bar was overcharged?? They also charged us for 5 drinks instead of 4. And instead of being SUPER apologetic, they were just super annoyed with us for asking for changes.
