    Chicken mole enchiladas
    Michelle O.

Recently rebranded from El Farolito to Gallina D'Oro ("golden hen") to match their sister restaurant ("black rooster") in Windsor, this Oaxacan restaurant serves delicious food at decent prices (for Healdsburg). [[HIGHLIGHT]]Located one block from the plaza with indoor seating and an outdoor parklet, it's usually not too crowded so they can serve you quickly if hungry.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Easy reservations on Open Table. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside had a skylight, interesting paintings and a full bar, so we've opted for that lately.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We always start with the house margarita ($12) which comes with a spicy salt. The chips are crispy and homemade, served with a hot red salsa. Husband loves the mole chicken enchiladas ($22) and I opted for the tacos ahogados ($17), 3 tacos deep-fried with shredded chicken dipped in tomatillo salsa topped with cabbage, queso fresco, crema, and escabeche. Son had the shredded chicken quesadilla ($19) which came with two large pieces and a mild green salsa. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere is nice and it's more a locals joint than touristy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's family run and service is good and quick. Highly recommend if you are in the mood for good Mexican food.

We had tickets for a show at the Raven theater in Healdsburg and after some searching on Yelp I decided on Gallina D' Oro and booked a reservation. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We chose the outdoor seating and were greeted instantly by a friendly server and the menus.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered the Mezcal Sunset (Mezcal, passion fruit, pineapple, basil, ginger beer) and my wife had the La Pollita (Herradura Blanco, fresh lime, rich simple syrup). Both were delicious. We enjoyed chips and salsa while going over the menu - many good sounding choices. My wife went with the Barbacoa Burrito and I ordered the Barbacoa plate. We both loved the flavor of the Barbacoa beef which was succulent, tender and full of flavor. We agreed that my choice was the winner of the two. While the burrito was very good - the Barbacoa beef in the plate which was served in a small pot allowed the flavor to stand on its own. I enjoyed the black beans and slightly spiced Spanish rice with the tortillas. And our server (I wish I got her name) was wonderful. Prompt, friendly and attentive - and happy to answer questions and recommend great choices. We will definitely return!

Delicious authentic Mexican food. We had breakfast food, not on the menu. I personally had the vegetable burrito and had them add scrambled eggs...it was phenomenal! My husband had huevos rancheros with homemade corn tortillas. Delicious! Churros....best ever!!!!

The food was great, and the customer service was excellent. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I really liked the restaurant's setup: you walk in through a hallway, see the kitchen, then enter the restaurant and bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Very nice restaurant; I will definitely be returning.

Looking for a casual dining experience at a reasonable price in Healdsburg? [[HIGHLIGHT]]Galina has a similar vibe to the original El Farolito that preceded it in this location. The interior is been brightened up a bit, but the layout's the same as before.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]While Gallina is a good spot for a casual dining experience, It's also a great spot for groups (there was a group of about 16 celebrating some occasion when we were there), so it can get a bit "lively" -- maybe not the ideal place to bring a first date.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As for the food, the portions are generous, as are the complementary chips and salsa. We ended up "doggie bagging" half of our two meals (Machete quesadillas and Carnitas burrito. The food was OK, but unremarkable. Three stars Service was first rate -- courteous, attentive yet unrushed. Five stars on that one.

    Inside waiting for my burrito

My man and I were traveling up the 101 to Oregon and stopped by Healdsburg for a bite to eat. I had my sights set on a breakfast burrito and the place we had tried once before was closed so this time we hit up Gallina D' Oro. They didn't have breakfast burritos on their menu but our waitress assured us they could make one for me with chorizo. I ordered it to go. The burrito was $20 with tip, she included a nice size green sauce in the bag. We split the burrito on the road so I don't have pictures of it and I also have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand it wasn't a breakfast burrito, there were no eggs in sight. It was rice, black beans, cheese and chorizo, and with that green sauce? Incredible. I typically get pretty miffed when a breakfast burrito falls short of what I ordered, because I order them often and I know what I order. This burrito could have easily been put in the category of "lesson learned" with the hefty price tag, the missing eggs and the fact that it was much smaller than typical breakfast burritos, but it was legit tasty and that green sauce put it over the top. So much so I'm actually craving it and wishing they sold bottles of it. I'm not sure if we'll have the opportunity to try them again but I will always think fondly of the one time we did.

    New sign.

Flavor Rebrand My recent dining experience at Gallina D'Oro, formerly El Farolito, in Healdsburg was a bit disappointing. While the menu still boasts traditional Mexican dishes, the flavors have noticeably dulled since the name change (Rebrand). The Mole Oaxaqueño was a letdown (mole was nice), but it lacked the rich chicken profile and presentation we always enjoyed from this type of dish (more mole than chicken). The nachos lacked flavor- bland-(I had them add avocado) and the chicken enchiladas lacked flavor. The white rice served alongside was a far cry from the flavorful Mexican rice I remember enjoying at El Farolito. BUT---The cucumber spicy margaritas were refreshing and delicious. It seems that Gallina D'Oro has lost its way, and I miss the authentic, flavorful Mexican cuisine and vibe El Farolito once offered. Service: Still excellent and welcoming. Perk: dog friendly

Beautiful, tasty drinks, salsa with just enough heat, and [[HIGHLIGHT]]fun atmosphere[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I've been here three times and it's always been consistently fabulous.

Ended up eating here two days in a row. It's so good! Very authentic and delicious. The staff is incredible and remember us and always take care of us. Definitely a must if you visit Healdsburg.

WOW! As a long time Healdsburg resident, having been through the good times and not so good times of the former restaurant in this location, El Faralito, I figured 'new name, probably same ....' Not at ALL! I only wish I hadn't waited so long to try the new! This now woman owned business has truly elevated the authentic Mexican flavor and farm to table experience in a way that is creative, fresh, while maintaining a traditional focus. The dishes are so vibrant, flavorful, beautifully presented, and I haven't had better service in a very long time. The barbacoa tacos were AMAZING! Get them with the homemade corn tortillas. *I usually scoff at restaurants saying something is 'homemade' - its restaurant made no matter how good - but Gallina D'Oro solved that! The other big proof was the guacamole. It was THE best I've ever had, hands down, which was especially cool since I haven't had a restaurant serve even 'pretty good' guac in forever. The only issue I have is that I didn't visit sooner. Locals, it's different, farm fresh, clearly made and served with a lot of love and care, and it's AWESOME! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Healdsburg visitors, you'll love the care in the food and service, and the friendly vibe with something for everyone and every price point in your party.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This is not the same ol' at ALL! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Gallina is fun and fresh, with amazingly friendly and attentive service, and a spot that's perfect for everything from a romantic dinner to family festivities, or a large party in the back by the bar where you can get what the table next to us called 'the BEST margarita we've ever had.'[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] That is next on my list, along with trying anything and EVERYTHING that's on their menu. NEW favorite! Don't miss it!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Cute spot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We strolled in on a rainy day and had their pozole special and carnitas plate. It was delicious and comforting. Their entire menu offered a lot of stuff I would want, will definitely be back!

Fresh, handmade tortillas on the carnitas and fish taco. NOT YOUR BASIC TACO!

Excellent fresh tacos and margaritas. I have come here 5 times and everything is very good and specifically, very fresh and the quality of ingredients. I also love it here because you can sit outside and eat with your dogs. Delicious restaurant!

First off, they were so welcoming when we checked in. And I love that it's so pet friendly. Hostess that checked us in was a doll. The inside decor and the layout was so cute. One side is the hostess counter and right across from there is a waiting lounge area which I believe is also utilized for dining. Walking through, they have indoor seating to one side and the bar area to the opposite. Also dining available along the hi top bar counter. We had a big group which they had us set up on the patio. Another beautiful layout. It's like dining in a community garden slash secret garden. Our waitress who took care of us was amazing. So sweet and very friendly. Not just her but the entire staff there. Menu wise looked amazing. Also it was also a recommendation from one of the staff at a winery we were just at. Drink menu was quite huge too. Of course food was on our mind and it did not disappoint. Big group meant a lot of share plates to start off. A double of things ordered to start off. Daily crudo which was served with wonton chips. Fresh fish with all spices and marinaded. It was fresh and delicious. You gotta have oysters if it's available. Curry deviled eggs was quite tasty as well. Your classic eggs with a little twist. Mushroom egg rolls were a hit. It literally came piping hot so it was a little wait till we enjoy it and it was delicious. Came with two dipping sauce which paired very well. Salsa macha fries, similar concept as the elote corn with the coltija cheese, lime creme and cilantro. Brisket can also be added which we opted out for. Then there was the grilled Vietnamese steak with the not so sticky rice in a cube form. Cooked perfectly and the crunchiness of the rice was perfect. Also the dipping sauce was great. Beef brisket tacos were another hit. Two orders and loaded with meat and all the topping. Very flavorful and delicious. Cant come here and not have their almost famous chicken tenders. Big chunks of chicken battered and fried to a nice golden color. It was so juicy and served with pickle chips and dipping. You can have it hot or now with the sauce. Crispy duck confit was delicious. Nice potion of duck with bitter greens and duck fat potatoes. Brazen burger, which was pretty massive. Classic burger but better and with bacon and fries. Then you have the kimchi noodles, added chicken and shrimp or without. That dish was tasty. You either love kimchi or not and the way it was prepared with pasta, delicious. And lastly, the special was a hot ham sandwich I believe. Served with potatoes salad and gherkins. It was a hefty sandwich with loads of meat and cheese. Simply but so good. Food was excellent as we literally had loads from the menu. Of course loads of recommendations which I know why. The food was exceptional and service was great. Restaurant is beautiful and service was excellent. Also they're so pet friendly. Plus, we ordered a dog patty for the pup and it was quite tasty...lol.... Can't wait to come back, hopefully soon. Not sure if menu if set or it changes seasonally. Regardless, whoever is in charge of menu, chefs kiss.

I feel it's relevant to mention that I am an Indian man, born and raised in Ohio, and the other three members of our party, including my wife, are Caucasian. We were having a political discussion at our table. We had visited a winery beforehand, so I'll acknowledge that our conversation may have been louder than average, but there was no arguing, disruptive behavior, or inappropriate language. My wife, who was part of the main conversation, was not even drinking alcohol. After taking our drink order, our server returned and refused to serve alcohol--but only to me. When we respectfully asked why, he stated that he could not serve me because of my accent. Wanting to be absolutely certain we understood him correctly, my wife asked, "Just to clarify, you're telling us that you're refusing to serve only my brown husband because of his accent?" He confirmed that was the reason. I'm sure the restaurant may later claim the decision was based on intoxication, but that was not the explanation we were given. The first two reasons provided were explicitly that it was because of my accent. For the record, I don't believe I even have an accent--but even if I did, that should never be grounds to refuse service. We left without eating, though we still paid for the drinks that had already been served. I hope the restaurant takes this seriously, because no guest should be singled out and denied service for something like this.
