I don't know if I can say enough good things about this restaurant! It is located inside the Appellation Hotel. We discovered it while out biking in Healdsburg, we stopped to see about going to the restaurant for dinner and the valet guy was so nice and made it sound so fantastic....he ran in and got us a menu so we could decide for ourselves. Because he was so good and the menu intriguing we decided to make a reservation for that night. Luckily they had space for us. When we returned for our reservation, we were greeted immediately and taken to our table immediately. One of the most clever things about this restaurant, and this coming from a restaurant designer, is that they have a drawer on each side of the table, that houses a variety of utensils so that as you get your different courses, you can choose what utensil you prefer! I absolutely love this! Kudos to the designers of this restaurant!!! The other thing that I loved, was they give you a welcome drink...I can't remember what it's mixed with, but it had Yuzu for sure and it was delicious! They also bring you the most fabulous loaf of bread with whipped butter. I'm pretty sure I could have made this my entire meal.... It was so good. It resembles a squaw bread but has poppy seeds on top. The dinner menu experience is an ingredient driven multi-course dinner experiences led by Chef Reed Palmer. It is a 3 course experience starting at $85.00. We started with the Ahi Tuna Crisp, I was hen had the seasonal salad..(can't remember the name unfortunately) my husband had the Local Lettuces, then we moved onto the Pacific King Salmon and the Caramelized Mary's Chicken and for dessert I had the Chocolate Cake and the Lemon Meringue. And even after all of this food, the other thing they just give you are these fabulous chocolate chip cookies their main like brownies were thick and delicious! I highly recommend this restaurant. This would have warned us what to expect. Our experience was horrible beyond any words able to convey here! Yes, Folia is on a negative side of Zero stars because the entire establishment is in the dark and appears careless in building their client base. NO focus on training staff even with the very basic understanding of customer service. Nothing good about dining here from the constant lack of attention or even a simple welcome "hello". In the dining area-MUST be prepared to BEG for someone, anyone to take your drink orders, food orders, refill water glasses but worst is all with BAD attitudes & snide comments as if YOU, the paying diners, are asking too much. NO tableware with your food; however you are expected to find a drawer at end of table for self service which we were not told beforehand so waited for some time, had get up from table to find a server who showed us how they set a table! You do it yourself! Would be nice to know ahead so your food doesn't sit waiting=but that is far too much to expect here. It gets worse when a dozen oysters arrive - 6 on two plates with no share plates for four people & your salad is served on a hot plate, by a drop & run waiter. Three Salmon entries later-one far over cooked, crisp & dry, one almost raw & under prepared & not edible, with one just OK. All with too many herbs which overpowered any taste profile. One chicken dinner acceptable! Fish served with DRY white rice-(no other choice offered) in white bowls basically tossed/slid onto table without any regard and lack of table manners. When finally getting attention to our request for soy sauce or sesame oil it was served in a very small coffee creamer for a single person. Inquiring if that was all for everyone the response given was "what do you expect-a full bottle or what?" and off he went. Nothing more offered or delivered. Dinners were disappointing. By now we know someone will have to get up from the table to find/ask/beg wait staff to clear. They did Not even take notice that 2/4 dinners were left on plates. To add more insult to their lack of service, our check spun across the table soon thereafter by another drop and run server with the same 0 ?s re: our experience?! This restaurant, attached to the new Appellation hotel is outstanding. They serve a 3-coursed meal and start you off with a lovely complimentary pour of their champagne, provided by their. The service is outstanding and the staff is knowledgeable and very helpful with decision fatigue. It was a lovely evening and there are plenty of spacious seats for small or large parties. Every course was delicious from collared greens, waffle fries, perfectly cooked fish, and pasta starter. I absolutely cannot wait to go back here, even if I'm not staying at the hotel. read more

Our experience at Folia was truly unforgettable for 2 reasons. #1- the food (obviously). I took one bite of the beef ragu and was silent for the next 4 minutes as I was talking to Jesus; it was heavenly. Likewise with the lemon tart dessert, only an angel could construct something half as good. #2- the staff. From TJ, to Leah, to our server's assistant (didn't catch their name but it was their 1st day today!), to Paulina- omg Paulina. When Paulina saw my husband struggling to eat whilst wrangling our 6 month old puppy, Paulina graciously took our puppy on a walk around the courtyard while we ate dessert. Truly above and beyond. We're guests at Appellation and have canceled our other dinner reservations tomorrow so we can come back to Folia again tomorrow. read more

My wife and I came in for a special honeymoon dinner, and we both agree it was an experience so special that we'll never forget it. We reserved the dinner tasting menu with Chef Reed and it truly deserves my longest review to date: 1. The food, combining the delicate ingredients and masterful preparation, truly blew our minds. So much care in procuring everything. It really felt true to Sonoma, while being much more unique than other tasting menus we had done in the past. Reed and Josh were so thoughtful with these dishes, I'm not sure how dinners during the remainder of our honeymoon will compare to this masterclass. 2. The service was absolutely delightful. We had the pleasure of meeting Dominic and he was excellent at his job. He made us feel accompanied throughout our evening. 3. Even though, I admit, I am not a big wine drinker, one must make amends when in this most beautiful wine country setting (seriously, this was one of the most beautiful places we had ever been, plan on staying after lunch or dinner to take it all in). With that being said Tess and Justin provided excellent wine pairings (with one amazing upgraded champagne for the honeymoon celebration!) We really enjoyed chatting with Tess all evening, she is a master at her craft. Can't thank everyone enough. They made us feel so special! So this review is specifically for the Valentine's Day course ($180) per person. First off, insane price for dinner. But the establishment was beautiful, the multiple servers that came by were awesome, so if the food matched, it would have be a little more reasonable. The only dish worth mentioning is the pasta with seafood sausage. Super unique, delicious and wish we had more of that. Everything else was not what you'd expect for such a high price tag. The steak was good, scallops were good, but nothing over the top. Also, the oysters were awful. Drowned in hollandaise, full of seawater, not my favorite. We each had the three-course tasting menu, and Dominic provided excellent service and recommendations. For each course, there was at least one vegetarian option. I am still dreaming about the basil pesto radiatore pasta - the best I've ever had! I also loved the beet and eggplant entrée. The flavors and textures were so delicious, unique, and creative. Everything was phenomenal. The service was impeccable. Dominic exceeded our expectations. We started off with the beef pasta and the tomato salad. For our main dish, we had the chicken, which was the best chicken I have ever had. We also have the steak, which was excellent. I truly wish I could give this restaurant zero stars. One of the worst fine dining experiences I've had, to make matters worse their leadership is completely unresponsive, to patrons. I've sent inquires via the website on how to alert their management to the problems we experienced and no response so I went back in and asked for the GM's business card, David Emig, I wrote an email explaining my concerns and experience, no response. This location doesn't want to improve because they don't care about feedback. I hope chefs Reid and Charlie Palmer read how their staff is truly struggling to make this restaurant a successful restaurant. This was my 40th birthday celebration and we did the pre fixe menu. The service and the food were a serious disappointment. We mentioned the celebration in the reservation, ZERO acknowledgement of this. Michael the server was arrogant, didn't explain anything, acted like he started us off with a small champagne cheers when the server next to us explained to his table it's Charlie Palmer's philosophy to do so. I ordered the ribeye steak for 2 and asked it be prepared medium. It came out rare and asked it be cooked a little bit longer it came back well done (the steak was clearly put back on the grill and replated very messy and then was incredibly tough and barely edible and also seriously missing salt). By the time we got the steak my mother was done with her meal and we felt defeated. Then for dessert no acknowledgment of my birthday, no candle (if you don't do candles no chocolate spelling happy birthday on the plate) and he got our order wrong didn't even notice it. We ordered two hazelnut chocolate mousse and got a lemon meringue tart instead. I wouldn't order any meat items here. They aren't purveyors and chefs of meat/steak because they don't understand meat temperatures. To pay around $100 for a pre fixe menu per person and doing a $35 dollar add on you expect the steak to be cooked properly and if it's not and there is a mistake then acknowledge that. Michael said and did nothing to address the meat issue, the mix up with desserts while I'm trying to celebrate a milestone birthday which feels unacceptable for a fine dining restaurant. To make this all worse. I personally emailed David Emig the GM and no response since 7/3. Quite possibly one of the worst mismanaged establishments in Sonoma County. Also, we are locals so we keep these businesses afloat when tourism dies the winter. Tonight we sat outside on the patio, and the ambience was absolutely beautiful. Honestly, I think we could hear each other better outside than we would have indoors. Both the interior and exterior spaces are stunning -- warm lighting, thoughtful decor, and an overall atmosphere that feels elegant but relaxed. We learned that the property has over 20 olive trees, each between 125 and 150 years old, scattered throughout the grounds, which really adds to the charm. Service was excellent. The sommelier stopped by, as did several staff members throughout the evening, but it never felt repetitive or impersonal. Everyone was attentive and in sync, which I really appreciated. They offer a pre-fixe menu with a choice of first and second courses, followed by a dessert course from a separate menu. You can also add à la carte appetizers or nightly specials. For my first course, I had the Manila clam pasta -- a well-balanced dish with an interesting sauce that was both buttery and slightly tart, featuring bits of bacon. Delicious and unique. The complimentary bread basket was another highlight -- a mix of assorted breads served with soft butter sprinkled with sea salt flakes. For our appetizer, we shared the savory bread pudding, which was excellent -- tender, flavorful, and topped with finely shaved cheese. For my main course, I chose the cioppino. It was good -- the seafood was cooked properly, and the fennel added a nice touch -- but it lacked depth of flavor and portion size compared to other dishes at the table. The duck, on the other hand, was outstanding: rich, tender, and perfectly cooked. The steak also looked incredible, so I'd recommend either of those as a main. For dessert, our table of five ordered all five options to share. The standout for me was the pistachio cheesecake -- creamy, balanced, and beautifully presented. I paired it with a decaf Americano that was smooth and satisfying. After dinner, we went upstairs to the bar, which was lively and had an equally beautiful atmosphere. There's both indoor and outdoor seating, and while we didn't stay for drinks, I'd love to return to enjoy cocktails there next time. Valet parking is available for just $11 -- very reasonable, especially since there's also street parking nearby. You can text the valet when you're ready to leave, and they'll have your car waiting. I'm writing this after multiple visits to Folia. Our first visit was Christmas Eve with friends after they first opened. Since then, we've had another dinner, three lunches and two brunches. We live down the street so coming in frequently would be our preference. The food is very good. For some reason, getting drinks and acknowledged after you are seated is very slow - almost every single time. Today it was because of our server. Other times, it's been because the bar was busy. I'm finally writing a review after brunch/lunch today. Server was SO impersonal, slow and it took 30 minutes to get a cocktail. The bartender came out to confirm what drinks we ordered as he wasn't sure. We had the bartender and two servers over a period of an hour helping our table. We ordered a fries appetizer to share but no share plates. Our second server was much better and took the order for our mains and checked in on us. There just is no flow or synergy here. For a resort that was voted best in the USA, this isn't ok. Today, 3 stars for food but only 2 for service. I write this to be constructive and hope the service will get better. I need to give a shout out to Leila. She has served us multiple times (not today) and she is so pleasant and has explained the delays with service and drinks. Well, we got food poisoning from the duck, which rendered me out of service for the whole weekend. In hindsight, it did look a little pink, but I figured a high-end establishment knows what it is doing. So, even though the ambiance was nice and the service was great, I can't come back here. One other weird thing: Two other people in our party ordered the chicken, which seems like a fairly vanilla dish. But they served it with the chicken feet deep fried on the side of the dish. Chicken feet don't necessarily bother me, but the sight of it really grossed out a few other people in our party. It was quite shocking to see because I don't think I've ever seen chicken feet on a Western dinner table before. read more

I wish I could have loved the cioppino. I wish I could have loved the $200 steak. I wish I could have loved the greens. Review for Folio at Appellation Healdsburg After a long day of travel, we checked into Appellation Healdsburg, excited for a relaxing evening on Sunday around 5pm. We were informed that Folio, the restaurant on-site, prided itself on a farm-to-fork philosophy and offered an inviting dining experience. Though we initially planned to dine downtown, after our long day with travel, we opted to try Folio that evening after getting settled in our room. Upon arrival, we noticed the restaurant wasn't busy at all (many apparent open tables and seating) yet we were asked if we had a reservation, which felt unnecessary. We were told the only options were barstool seating, so the two of us settled at the long and empty (but gorgeous) community hi-top table on barstools with no fuss, just happy to be there. Our server, was excellent, attentive, and friendly. Unfortunately, none of the food that evening matched the service. We started with the crab appetizer, which was underwhelming in both presentation and taste. It came out lukewarm with a mountain of hollandaise sauce overpowering a dish that was plated on odd glassware straight from an old diner with a few homemade round crackers and maybe 4 small leaves of lettuce. It felt cheap, unintelligent, rushed, not well thought-out, and just did not match the space we were dining. We then tried the pasta dishes. The first was pasta with clams, but the clams were sparse, and the dish was dominated by garlic and a mysterious meat that didn't quite fit. The squash pasta was more of the same letdown, very al dente with very little flavor. I don't think we ate half of it. The main course, the blackened cod, was shared by my wife and I. It again was a nightmare presentation, brought to the table in a large sterling silver platter, sloppily positioned between my wife and I, saturated in peanut sauce on a bed of rice. It again lacked the finesse any diner would expect in this setting. In short, the experience didn't live up to the hype, especially considering the resort's desire to become an elevated culinary destination. At $85/person prefix, we expected more. The service was a relative bright spot, but the food left us hoping for more. It was so bad we avoided all meals at the restaurant for the next two days altogether. Thankfully, downtown Healdsburg had other fantastic dining options that rescued our palate during this trip. Folio must revisit the diner experience and reconsider what kind of reputation they wish to have if they want to be around for any amount of time. The food industry has expectations in this part of the world and they failed at most of them. read more

Traveling with a child who has severe food allergies can make something as simple as finding a safe meal extremely stressful. We had booked a room at Appellation specifically because it had a kitchenette so I could cook for my daughter. Unfortunately, when we were ready to cook, the burners were not working, and I wasn't sure what we were going to do for dinner. When I went to the front desk to ask if there were any options, Chef Reed Palmer came out personally and immediately showed so much kindness and compassion. He genuinely wanted to help and offered to do whatever he could to make sure my daughter could have a safe meal. What happened next was something I will never forget. Chef Palmer invited Lily to visit the vegetable garden, where she was able to pick fresh vegetables herself. He then welcomed us into the private demonstration kitchen and prepared a safe meal for her using the ingredients we brought. He was incredibly patient, thoughtful, and understanding throughout the entire experience. The team even set a beautiful table for the two of us so we could enjoy a meal together outside of our hotel room. My daughter is 14, and because of her allergies, I can count on one hand the number of times we have been able to eat a meal at a restaurant. This experience felt truly magical. It meant so much to both of us to be able to share a special meal together in such a warm and welcoming environment. Chef Palmer's generosity, flexibility, and genuine care went far beyond what we could have ever expected. It was an incredible treat to have a meal prepared for us by such a high-caliber chef, and the kindness he showed our family will stay with us for a very long time. First thing I'd like to say is that the food is actually really good. The ambience and environment is lovely and we have enjoyed coming here three or four times in the last few months. The issue is the poor service. The staff are awesome and kind, but there are just not enough of them. So they are stretched too thin... A few times, we had to get up from the table to go get a glass of water refilled or another drink. We were unable to get a waiters attention. We have been sat at the table for 10 minutes before getting a drink order then 10 more minutes to get the drink. Two times, we had to ask for silverware after the food arrived. And then, they brought the silverware, but they didn't bring any napkins. So, again, we do like the food, but the poor service doesn't make Folia one of our staple restaurant choices. read more

This was our second time....gave the restaurant a 2nd chance. They again dropped the ball. Not only were there 2 awful reviews from our party of 6, I personally spoke to the manager of the restaurant Brian few days later, a long conversation. He told me he would send us an email, presumably to offer us a free cocktail. Never received an email. All 6 us felt sick after the dinner. I spent the night throwing up and another woman had the runs all night. We wanted to like the dinner. The hotel is pretty, nice cocktails by the fire pits, and in the lovely Healdburg. But the food and service was appalling. Previous reviews back to 12/2025 said the same, and apparently they have not made a single change. This is a Charlie Palmer restaurant. He gave the head chef position to his son. I think it is time for a new chef before the place spirals. We went to the Wednesday neighbor night ($55) as we like to support our local restaurants. But with so many to choose from in Healdburg, Santa Rosa etc, we will NOT be returning. The bar is high. Starter of oysters were fair. Briny and cold. The weird duck croquettes did not taste like duck. Those were not on the Neighbor menu. We ordered 2 bottles of wine and waited approx 30 min and had to beg for our wine. Horrible sommelier service. Said he "couldn't find our wine" ?? All 6 of us ordered the halibut crudo. Fair...but is this what made me sick? Or the raw oysters we all had? The waiter, Dominic was also poor, Talked up the crispy chicken as the "best chicken ever". It was soggy in a tasteless gravy. 5 of the 6 of us had this. I shared with my husband and ordered the pork that was dry. Sort of flakey like a can of tuna fish. Lastly, we all chose the rhubarb cheesecake at the advise of our waiter. Tasted like nursing home cheesecake, and came without any rhubarb. The chef came out and apologized and brought out 6 tiny tasteless pieces of rhubarb on a plate. Disgracefull. To make matters worse, I spent the night on my bathroom floor and had to taste this meal all over again. Something is wrong with the food prep or storage if 5 out of 6 of us felt sick. Will not be going back until something changes....new chef and management? Charlie Palmer was there behind the line. He appeared miserable. I observed him greeting some people at their tables. I guess we did not rate high enough for a hello. Rumors of his bad temper and firing people left and right don't help this place. I'll let the other guests speak for themselves. Hard pass on this place. My first time at Folia. This place is an architecural jewel, extreme attention to detail, a new standard for wine country chic. The staff is well trained, attentive but not overpowering. Now for the food. After my wife's mocktail was delivered she was informed that the drink contained alcohol and needed to be exchanged. My beer came in a glass with salted rim, not what I expected. My first course consisted of Manilla clam pasta. It was heavy on the pancetta and light on the clams. The dish was swimming in fat. I had trout for the main course, the fish was cooked to perfection. It consisted of a piece of fish and a few strands of puntarelle, nothing else. Unfortunately, the heavy buttery sauce masked trout's delicate natural flavor. Had lunch here last Thursday with 2 friends, so a total of 3 guests. My lunch literally arrived 10 minutes after my quest. They requested condiments, which arrived just as their meals were nearly complete--never asked to refill our drinks, then given the wrong check. We still left a 23% tip; however, our waiter said he didn't receive a tip. We explained that we paid 75% in cash and the rest by card; however, he couldn't do the math. Pretty place...but very disappointed in the food here. Worst chicken sandwich I've had in a long time, tiny piece of chicken with oily breading. Chicken salad was small and bland. Burger ehhh. Bartender was nice but slow and didn't know the menu. read more

The worst. We waited to go until they'd been open a little while as we've made the mistake of going to new restaurants before they worked the kinks, but maybe we didn't wait long enough? Let's give it a couple years. First off - yes, our timing was odd, but coming back from a funeral, we wanted a place we could have a drink and a few snacks, and Folia was open. We got there about 3pm and were seated at the bar. Asked about the first cocktail on the menu and the bartender totally floundered, then admitted he was the barback and did we want to wait for the bartender? Fair enough, we appreciated the honesty, ordered the bread basket, olives and stuffed peppers. All fine. No complaints on the food. Bartender comes back and after a long enough period for him to settle in and appear to be making drinks for another party we ask again about the first cocktail on the menu and get a vague non informational response on it. Decide to abandon hopes of a custom cocktail and order two dry martinis with olives. We have had martinis at every restaurant in Healdsburg and can tell you that this ranks the smallest martini in town. Bartender says, hey I'm going into a meeting, you okay? and we say yes and eat our food and drink our drink and wait until the end of time and finally calculate what we owe and put enough cash plus a tip on the counter and leave. Bartender chases out after us and asks if we want to pay and we say yes, pile of cash left for you and we left wishing we'd left a smaller tip. Beautiful place inside and out, too bad we'll never go back ever again. read more
