i went recently here with a friend: i thought the people were extra nice, the food delicious, + the seating/ambiance lovely. i see people discussing the prices here on yelp: i think that a meal for under $10 (my squash quesadilla was $9) is very affordable. + it came with a side of really delicious beans. you would pretty much pay the same for a sandwich from good earth. i don't eat out regularly: i do so only on occasion when a friend visits, so i don't mind paying a small bit more for a nice spot to hang out, with good + healthy food. this place seems a happy medium between healthy fast food + a full restaurant experience. i am glad it is here. read more

Mas Masa does have tasty Tacos, especially the al pastor tacos. It use to be a 4 star place but the menu changed a bit and they no longer offer the beans/salad with the taco plate. I've seen similar complaints from other posters about that and managements rebuttal is that they dropped the price of the taco plate however it's obvious it was a play to make more money and not to offer more choices to customers. The tacos and beans before were $13 and now the tacos are $11 and the side is $4. The outside seating area is always great when the weather is nice. read more

The food was good and the portions were big. The tacos and quesadilla had ample amounts of meat in them. We ordered the beans with Feta for the table and everyone loved them. I had to inquire about the whereabouts of our meal and was told that there had been a computer glitch, but the servers were very prompt in getting our meals put together and on the table once they became aware of it. read more

Amazing food, ambiance and service. Really appreciated the warmth and kindness of the staff, especially Will. I got the beef tacos and squash soup and each bite was scrumptious. I've had my share of great tacos, this restaurant unfortunately was not one of my favorites. For the prices they have for their entrees here I was surprised by the little portions they offer. What a great find! Ceviche tostadas, al pastor tacos, chicken tacos, and the special - duck carnitas sopa. All very good. We chose the salad as our side and it was great, but small. I'm not sure why this restaurant is listed as $$$. It wasn't really expensive for a fresh, tasty take on Mexican food. A bonus would have been chips and salsa to snack on (we have two teenage boys) but that's my only recommendation. We'll definitely try it again. Mas masa is delicious & the staff is very friendly and personable. My only complaint is that they ran out of al pastor and ceviche before I arrived, which I am completely willing to accept (better quality of food when you're not over-producing). We went to Mas Masa over the summer and this review is long overdue considering how insanely delicious our meal was. From the pickled veggies to the Panna Cotta every single dish was meticulously prepared with high quality ingredients, creativity, and love. I like it, third visit. I try something different each time. Very original and not really comparable to a typical Mexican restaurant. If you want $2 tacos go somewhere else because this place serves Organic foods that are original. The Al Pastor is cut in front of you off a rotating grill super yummy. The Tortillas themselves are from Blue organic non gmo corn that are ground and cooked right there. Not your typical white bread tortillas. The drinks there are original as well. Persimmon Agua Fresca, Kombucha on tap, Peruvian Chicha Morada. Super clean open kithchen and great vibe. read more

The meat wasn't made crispy by the fancy cooker and the meat was served in big chunks instead of shaved into thin crunchy chewy pork slices. The beans were ok. The salad was ok. A good addition to Fairfax, where the eateries are below average at best. The food was good, atmosphere and owners nice too. Everything was tasty - two taco orders and drinks- about $33 for two people. If you are going to eat here, then complain that these are not "authentic Mission $2.00 tacos", you are really missing the point and should just go back to the city. read more

My new favorite restaurant in the county... I was lured in by the lovely outdoor dining area (I'm an interior designer, so it matters!), and then I was blown away by the friendly atmosphere (both staff AND patrons) and the beautiful, delicious, healthy food (the ceviche tostadas were bountiful and amazing, the homemade blue corn tortillas were perfect). It was so wonderful, I went back the next night (sweet potato quesadillas OMG) and confirmed that yes, this is the SPOT. I can't wait to go back and try everything else. read more

Delicious food! The tacos al pastor are probably the best I've had in a really long time. Loved the authentic flavors and the hand made tortillas can't be beat. Mixed experience, and please consider this review 3 1/2 stars: very good mushroom tacos, accompanied by a small, but tasty salad. Would advise a squirt of some "crema" on the tacos, much like they were putting on some other entrees. Average pastor tacos: kinda dry pork with a few, very few, cross-sections of chiles, in the taco. I would advise the restaurant to include, for the same price, some grilled onions and, again, some of the crema, a cheap enough topping. The people at the next table asked for some crema, and the manager or owner seemed to reluctantly agree to give them some, mentioning something about not charging for the crema, this time, so we didn't ask since I have neither heard of a Mexican restaurant charging for this cheap condiment nor have I paid for it, at other Mexican restaurants in Marin or elsewhere. And what came was a minuscule portion of crema, which our neighbors showed to us. The homemade, blue corn tortillas were dry and flavorless, and I would prefer flour tortillas as an option. Young women at the register were kinda unpolished, when the people in front of us, and then we, asked questions about the specials and the menu, but maybe that's part of the growing pains of a new place. The crema guy seemed to move between being overly effusive with the customers to our left and kinda snarky with the customers to our right, who seemed perfectly nice. Came here last weekend with my husband and two kids and had a terrible dining experience. We waited in the line for about 20 minutes to order and the staff seemed to be overwhelmed. After another 20 minutes we got our meal and the food came out cold and the al pastor tacos were mostly just big chunks of pork fat. At this point the kids were having a meltdown having waited almost 45 minutes for a quesadilla. After about 15 minutes of waiting I went inside and tried to see if our food was on its way. I asked what seemed to be a manager, a young blonde woman, and she said that if I didn't want to wait then I shouldn't come out to eat on the weekend. Extremely rude and unprofessional behavior and I have worked in the profession before. Not sure if the manager was having a bad day or what but it was uncalled for. The beans were lacking salt and the salad was just ok. The agua fresca was just ok. My husband's beer was fine, can't mess that up. Needless to say we won't be coming back. read more

I really want to LOVE this place. It's a long time waiting since they've filled this central location with anything that's stuck around longer than a hiccup - so that said, so lovely to have owners who have put some well-deserved love into this locale. Thank you! Food critique: the fare is underwhelming. There are some wonderful and unique items on the menu (just love the kumquats in the salads, freshness of the ceviche tostadas), but for the cost, the items are not mind-blowing. In Fairfax, we prefer reasonably priced fare that is tasty and reasonably substantial. If you're going to crank up the prices to sf/mill valley standards - you better knock our socks off (like village sake). I truly hope they can begin to knock our socks off if they continue with the price points. Outdoor: LOVE the addition of the outdoor seating area. Thank you for heaters and a cozy environment! Drinks: pricey! I can't remember what it was, but my husband tried a recommended beer on tap, was charged full price and the glass came half full... no joke! Beware! This place needs some real ness like pitchers of tap beer or something at a reasonable price. Please?! Staff: super friendly. Mas Masa delivered times 100. First visit we ordered the Al Pastor tacos (to die for), the sweet potato quesadilla (insane) and the beef tacos (so-so, but in light of the other tastes we had, I feel like the beef didn't have a chance against the pork). We just went again (3 nights later and we live in Sausalito) and ordered the Al Pastor (yes, it's that good) and the ceviche tacos. I told my fiancee, that if I worked near this place, I would have the ceviche tacos Every. Single. Damn. Day. Beautiful fresh, flavorful, and with a little kick. Some of the best tacos I've ever had! I came with my family and between the three of us we ordered the fish tacos, the pork tacos and the chicken tacos all of which were delicious and filling. They have a fun, creative take on tacos and the food is organic, obviously fresh and prepared well. The food was flavorful but not too spicy and there are a variety of hot-sauces available if you want an extra kick. The staff was friendly and our food was delivered quickly. The menu is short but everything sounded so good it was hard to pick what to get. I will most certainly be back. read more

Stoped by while visiting friends in Fairfax. They were only open a week but we were pleasently surprised. Finally a healthy organic restaurant in Fairfax. Most options there are so dated. We had the Al pastor, really great tortillas made from blue corn right in front of you. There's a sign that tells you how they grind thier organic nixtamalized masa that turns corn into a protein. Salads were fresh, Ceviche was fresh and served on their crispy tortillas with an Avacado sauce. One of the group had the Pozole. I like super spicy Pozole but this was fine and Probably the right balance. Basically I would say it's gourmet food in a casual place. read more
