There are many good things to say about this restaurant. The food is quite good. We enjoyed the beef tacos, pork tacos, the salad with the entree was good if a little sweet. In addition we quite enjoyed the pickled vegetables, sangria and the selection of beer. The beans were enjoyed by my husband. In short - all good! To make it more enjoyable the staff was friendly, the patio has a lovely outdoor eating ambience and we could have both our dogs with us on the patio. The best healthy (American variation of) Mexican food ever! The restaurant has a nice ambience - a lot of plants, some art, great heated patio. The place is family and pet friendly. I think their food is fairly priced, food is always fresh and delicious. Normally pork tacos is not my "cup of tea" but here Al Pastor tacos are regular guests on my plate, it is simply amazing. Quite honestly, all their tacos are made in heaven (including cauliflower, I know sounds boring but try it). They also have Marin Pinot Sage kombucha on tab - double bonus! Love them! read more

Love this place. I've tried the al pastor tacos and the chicken tacos and they were both delicious! They have an awesome craft beer selection and their sangria is amazing. After dinner, I walked across the street to Gestalt Haus for beer and board games (which I also recommend). I'm so sad to give a bad review but I felt really unwelcome the last time I was at Mas Masa. The food is amazing and I can't say the service has ever really stuck out. However, today I got my salad and it was the wrong order. I went to the counter and just said "hi, I got the wrong salad" and instead of apologizing the man preparing the food just shoved the tickets in the cashiers face like "you're wrong" and the cashier was like "no, she got the wrong salad". Neither apologized for the mix up. When the girl brought my new salad to the table she didn't even look at me and just dropped it without saying anything. On top of this, the guy who took my order then came out and started to place blankets at seats outside but never offered me one and I was freezing. Between these two experiences, I've never felt so unwelcome. Makes me sad to say I'll likely not go back even though I love the food. Nothing is more upsetting than feeling like you're out of place or a burden to the staff. read more

Nice to have a new restaurant in Fairfax, but this one is a bit of a disappointment. Although the blue corn tortillas great, it is not enough. The carnitas taco and was seriously disappointing. Chunks (not shreds) of pork we're gristly and the savory grilled veggies were nice t enough to carry the meal. Posole was hardly recognizable as such... 3 pieces of hominy in the whole bowl. The chicken was fresh, but not nearly enough solid-to-broth ratio. Definitely not worth the high price! The owner and staff are chipper and ready to tell how great they are...not too ready to have an actual conversational exchange. I probably won't go back. With a number of great Mexican restaurants in Marin, it is not worth taking another chance. read more

Mas Masa is as good as it can get! The best and the freshest tasting food I have ever had! The Al Pastor was unreal and the ceviche tostada was fresh and ever so tasty! I went by the restaurant just now and spoke to a really rude young blonde manager who was nothing short of nasty. I asked if she would be willing to donate to a school fundraiser and before I could even get the words out she told me "this couldn't be a worse time." I have lived in Fairfax for 22 years and all the merchants in town have donated money every year to support the children and their programs for art, music, and various .other programs. I've never been treated so rudely by anyone in town. I will spread the news to everyone I know in town to not patronize your restaurant. I would really consider getting friendlier people to manage your restaurant and seriously you're going to be rude over giving to children. You suck. And I heard the owner is a tool as well. Kicked my friend out who was renting the building prior. I have done a great job of turning people I know away from your business. They were all appalled at your ignorance that this is a community. Thank you, Mas Masa, for offering such interesting fresh food that we cannot wait to come back for! We have visited 4 times now, and on each visit the food was consistent and service friendly. My daughter likes the beef tacos. My husband, the carnitas tacos and I always get the ceviche tacos. For my side, I always select the beans...so delicious, especially on a cold rainy day. Sometimes we share a salad, too. I definitely recommend the fresh juices of any flavor, they have always been good and in season. These guys are clearly passionate about food. I've read a few complaints about prices, but the public needs to realize that organic meats and produce from farmers market costs more than buying from a restaurant supply company. That's why it tastes better. We don't mind paying a little more because we understand how they get the food to the table and we appreciate their efforts. Good luck to these guys! We had the chicken tacos, and masa for the tacos fell apart almost immediately. The chicken was flavorful, but there was no counterbalancing flavors in the taco, so it was very one note. The beans that came along with the taco had zero flavor, even after adding salt. We also tried the ceviche tostada; the fish was fresh but the ceviche was in need of some pop - lemon or lime, some chili and salt. The salad, on the other hand, was fresh and tasty. But in the end, the portions were small and the consistent lack of proper seasoning was really disappointing. They've only been open for a week so I hope given some time they can work out the kinks. read more
