We have been waiting for this to open, and it was worth the wait. It's right across the street from our church so we came on a Sunday afternoon. There was only one other couple when we arrived but more people came while we dined. The decor is lovely. Very welcoming and warm, with dark wood, brick and reds. There is plenty of seating but it's still open and spacious. We sat in a very cozy boot for two, but there were tables and booths for larger parties, up to 8. There are two hibachi rooms, both with several cooktop tables. The service was quick and friendly. The menu had a wide variety. We started with gyoza and the Rock-n-Roll sushi. Both were very good. We got a steak/chicken combo hibachi dinner and split it. There was plenty of food for two. The steak was ordered medium rare and it came out perfect. The accompanying fried rice and veggies were both very good. Our only negatives were 1) that it was a little more expensive than other options around the area. Not so expensive as to take away a star. Maybe I would think of it as a "special occasion" place rather than a "whenever we want Japanese" place. 2) the music was nice and mellow, but it wasn't Japanese or Asian. All of the visual cues said "asian" but the sounds said "urban/soul". I liked the music, it was just out of place, and messed with the experience. Even modern/contemporary Asian music would have been good. I like steak and I like pudding, but I don't want steak in my pudding. LOL read more

Stopped here not too long after they opened, and was very impressed. We tried a little bit of everything (our eyes were bigger than our stomachs for sure), and everything was great. Sushi was awesome, Hibachi was as well, and it was all fresh and flavorful. I should also note the service here is pretty wonderful as well. We went on a Saturday night so we had a small wait of like 25mins for a hibachi table. They call your phone when your table is ready. The wait wasn't as long for non-hibachi dining. We did Hibachi so of course if your party doesn't fill the table you sit with others. There were 4 in our party so we sat with 6 other people. The lighting and atmosphere was perfect. I felt like we were Spaced out enough from other tables. I can't remember who our chef was but he was super nice and even did a little special birthday candle thing on the grill for my daughter and niece. We ordered sushi and they were a nice long hair sticking right out of our sushi. They said they would remake it but by the time they finished cooking our food they still hasn't brought it out. We had lemon drops and dumplings for appetizers before they brought out the soup and salad that comes with the hibachi. Everything was pretty tasty. You definitely get a lot of food...we all needed to go boxes. I'd go back for hibachi or to just sit on the regular side and get appetizers. Visited Masa for a birthday (as you do) and had a very nice meal. The chefs had some new tricks I have not seen before. They were very excited to entertain the kids at the table and it was fun to have the interaction. Fun but not overkill. One thing though is they will squirt sake in your mouth if you look adult but don't tell you it's sake! Overall the meal was great too, about what you'd expect from a hibachi grill. I've been waiting for a solid hibachi restaurant on the north side and Masa delivered! For several years I've been driving to the southeast side after several average hibachi experiences on the northside/downtown Indy area. We gave Masa a try and I will absolutely be back soon! I ordered the filet mignon hibachi dinner and it was enough for 2 people and every part was delicious. Also, excellent service. We ordered this for take out, but the restaurant looked so nice and the gentleman I spoke to on the phone and when picking up was so kind! Excited to have a great hibachi place nearby! read more

Tried the new Masa Sake Grill. Had been there once when it was a different place. Definitely better service and better food taste. Prices are consistent for what you see at a hibachi place. Sushi rolls were flavorful and edamame was perfectly done. Wasn't to busy on a Thursday night and we were able to get right in and sat and received superb service. Drinks were refilled as we got about 3/4 down and they were very attentive to needs. Highly recommend and will for sure be back. read more

I was here for lunch on August 23. I got the dinner-size hibatchi entree and my wife got the lunch special hibatchi entree. Immediately after having our lunch, we both were sick. It has been close to 24 hours and we haven't recovered yet. read more

Beautifully decorated, good rhythm section in the hibachi area, delicious well prepared food. I had an eel roll that was perfect. The only area to improve was the alcohol department. The wine selection lacked variety and nice wines. I ordered a Pinot Noir Crema for 15 dollars a glass. It was served to me in a cordial size glass not even half full, so maybe 3 ounces. At least it was fresh and the glass was clean, it tasted as expected. I usually get 2 glasses and out of principal decided no. My friend got a very limey margarita that was foamy and he made faces while trying to drink it. He did like his steak fried rice. The service was good. We will come back and probably get food and no alcoholic beverages. read more

We went for Hibachi, took my mom and 3yo daughter for their first hibachi experience. Food was good, though rice needed more flavor. The whole "experience" part was lacking. Our chef basically just cooked our food then did one big flame and tapped/spun his spatula a few times. No showmanship or playfulness like we saw at other tables. I don't need a three ring circus, but part of the expense is the experience and this wasn't much of one. read more

Masa is amazing! It is absolutely delicious. Our Hibachi chef was so fun, and celebrated our daughter's birthday with joy. We had a large group with a mix of hibachi and sushi. The clear soup is the best in the city and the salad is so good, the hibachi delicious, and sushi was divine. Our server, Deanna was fantastic - we never ran out of our beverages and the food was timed well, she was wonderful. Need to alter this. While the sushi is good the last two trips were not. Had the hibachi (not in the hibachi bar). The clear soup was just that hot water with a little Bit of onion sprinkled on top. It tasted just like that I ordered the combination hibachi with steak and shrimp. Came cold drenched in teriyaki sauce. The fried rice was a large mound of rice with no flavor. I was expecting this to be grilled at a hibachi table. It looks like it was pre-cooked. Put some sauce on top of it and throw it out. Maybe it was just a bad day. read more

The food was good but be prepared the prices are a little more than some other Japanese restaurants. $20 for the hibachi vegetable meal. Also, someone in our party wanted to order the noodles with steak but was told they had to order from the hibachi menu and add a side of noodles for an additional charge. I've never had any other Japanese restaurant do this before. The person who took our order messed up and the chef had to ask them several times to go get forgotten ordered items to be cooked. read more

Went there to catch up with friends and I didn't particularly like a dish and asked them to take it back. I was still going to pay for it. Then the manager came over and called me stupid and said that I shouldn't have made decisions on my own and it was my fault for choosing something without asking questions. Basically, saying I was stupid for getting the dish and that she wasn't going to take it off the bill. I never asked them to do it and I didn't appreciate being talked down to like a child. I feel as if it had to do something with race as I am a black woman. Overall, the experience wasn't good. If you want to eat somewhere where the food is cold and tasted old and get racially profiled with a hint of food poisoning this place if for you. read more
