I have meaning to write a review for Masa for ages. I am absolutely addicted to this place! I order takeout from here at least once a week. I have tried soooo much sushi from so many places in the Houston area and there is nothing better. The fish is always fresh and the honey cream/wasabi cream sauces are to DIE for. I ALWAYS get: Masa's crunch + cream cheese (on the sweet side) Fire roll (the perfect mixture of sweet/spicy) Philadelphia roll They are amazing! The Masa's crunch has to be my favorite. I've also tried the: Crunchy roll Orange Dragon roll Chameleon roll Cricket roll Texas roll Tiger eye roll Altair roll They are all delicious as well, but not better than my top 3! read more

I had the beef udon. The vegetables were so fresh they were still steeping in the hot broth! The flavor was a bit smoky which I don't usually associate with the traditional flavor of beef udon, but it's not a dealbreaker. Convenient location, and the service is great! read more

I've been to this sushi restaurant twice now, the first time the service was terrible. It took the waiter 30 minutes to come back and take our order after bringing us water. Today was my second time and it will be the last. The spicy tuna was awful, the other rolls were mostly all rice and barely had any fish. Worse, the seaweed was so rubbery I couldn't even chew it and I practically choked on it. Completely inedible! It was obviously of very cheap quality and not prepared correctly. I stopped after eating two pieces. When I complained to the waiter he agreed the seaweed was bad, and took the plate away...but I was still charged for all the rolls on my ticket! Never ever coming back and I suggest you don't come here and go anywhere else. read more

Noticed some new waitstaff, mostly competent. Manager has always been great to us. The chefs actually wanted goodbye today. This is our go to place forty quick sushi. Now they have new steam Buns. I wasn't impressed. Their other food is better Hot green tea is really nice. I think it's sencha, but might be matcha, but not from a bag. A small bit lovely selection of sake. 80s music makes my nostalgic with all the top 40 good of that decade in the background. read more

This is my absolute favorite place to get sushi whether it is dine in or to go! Even when we lived out of state, when we would visit, we always had to stop here for sushi. My only negative comment was last December, 2019 a couple of days before Christmas, we had friends in from out of town, took them to see the Magical Winter Lights in LA Marque, TX and our plan was to have a late dinner at Masa Sushi. We were VERY disappointed with our refusal of service (stating they were closed more than an hour before their posted hours). There were a few people that also tried to have a late meal and were refused. We even asked if we could just order "to go" and were refused. We were excited to try this place. Let me start with the positive, place was clean, water glass was always full and waiter was friendly. When asked about the edamame, was told it was complimentary and they would bring some, had to remind the waiter. The salad was swimming in dressing. The lunch was really nothing to write home about, hubby had the teriyaki. Meat was in huge chunks and not tender. My shrimp tempura had way to much batter. The sushi was alright. read more

Love the food here. My favorite is the Shaggy Dog Role with extra spicy Mayo. My favorite appetizer is the Tuna Poké nachos, they are amazing! I also enjoy the crab puffs and gyoza. This was my first visit to Masa Sushi and I am so happy that we stopped here after our workout. Everyone was so friendly, the restaurant was inviting and the food was delicious! I've never had such amazing sushi! They were offering complimentary edamame when we came in and I had never had it before. It was spectacular. It was fresh, salty and kind of spicy. I loved it! I ordered the "fire" roll which included avocado, shrimp, wasabi, cream cheese and jalapeño and it was absolutely one of the best things I've ever had. Hands down, the best combination of ingredients ever! I also ordered two of the Japanese spring rolls and they were crispy, warm and fresh! My friend ordered the Philadelphia roll and loved it so much that she got one for lunch the next day. I really love that they offered a kid's menu and it was great for my friend's super picky kiddo, who ordered some rice and her own special "sushi" which was basically "kid sushi". So cool. I also really enjoyed the dim lighting, the paper lanterns, the low sodium soy sauce offered and the fact that the waitresses were so friendly to us. Our food was brought out about 10 minutes after we placed our order and everything was so good. Really disappointed in the service tonight. Ordered food for pickup and came in with one card, it does not have a chip and the hostess informed me she can not accept it, she stated "sorry, It's been posted for a year." I haven't lived in league city in 3 years and am at home with my parents visiting, so I had no idea of this policy. Was that her fault? No. So I understood and asked if I could use a picture of another card as I have my name on the card and an ID with me. She said she would go speak to the manager. About 1 minute later she comes back and says no... the manager didn't even have the decency to come out and apologize for the inconvenience. Came in for the first time on a pickup order, and almost had to leave without our food. Apparently they don't accept cards that don't have a chip? We only found this out when we arrived to pay for the order, and were told "this has been our policy for years." As a first time customer, how were we to know this? I ended up having to pay on a card that I didn't want to use. We ordered an Orange Dragon Roll and a Katsu Don. Both were mediocre. Even my husband, who it the least picky person alive, did not finish his meal. I ended up throwing away half of the sushi, because it was so slimy and gross. Additionally, the avocado was already rotting...not the normal amount, like this avocado was nasty before it was even used. We, nor anyone we know, will ever be back. Too bad. read more

What a surprise to find this delicious sushi place in Dickinson, TX! Customer service was superb! We were ecstatic that they gave us complimentary edamame. Our waiter was very friendly and extremely nice to us. Masa Tower (7/10): Great appetizer to share but a lot of carbs! The base is a layer of rice followed by spicy tuna, another layer of rice, avocado, another layer of rice, smelt roe, and finally the tender snow crab. Drizzled all over is the honey cream. Some cut sushi rolls on the cheaper end that I like: spicy tuna, spicy scallop, and the spider (soft shell crab). Their special rolls are quite pricey so I only ordered one kind: grasshopper ($15.99). My boyfriend loves this soy paper roll filled with spicy tuna, salmon, white fish, kani, shrimp tempura, mayo, cucumber, and green onion. I would definitely come here more often! read more

Really enjoyed this place each time I've visited. I wanted special instructions on my veggie tempura and they were accommodating with my requests. The lunch specials are good and great price. The chicken teriyaki is awesome and specialty sushi is outstanding. Both miso and onion soup were excellent but I didn't care for the ginger salad dressing. My hubby enjoyed the Katsu Don, the chicken Katsu was decent but the teriyaki is better. They have a large selection of choices but I like the lunch options and prices better. Dinner can be pricey and they don't offer any happy hour specials. The service is always pleasant and friendly but servers should be trained on the menu a bit more. read more

We went during their anniversary special - 50% off the entire bill! I had never been there before but saw the event on Facebook and decided to go. We ended up waiting 1.5 hours until we were seated and we came right at 4 pm. A lot of other people waited 2 to 2.5 hours or perhaps even more. Based on rating the sushi, the place was "ok" but not anything super great. None of the rolls we tried stood out to me or tasted outstanding but everything tasted "good." I can't remember all of them but we tried the astro roll, deep flyer, samarai something and 4 other rolls so 7 total. One extra star on this review based solely off their service though. Even with a TON of people outside waiting and inside eating, everything was ON POINT inside. Every single person working there was working so hard and being very professional. It only took us thirty minutes inside to order and eat! The food came out very quickly, the orders were taken quickly, drinks refilled quickly, and no mistakes by the waitress who took our order or brought and returned our check. They were seriously working hard to keep everyone eating and drinking and keep the tables turning over at a reasonable pace for all those who were waiting. I was really impressed by it, I honestly don't think I've ever seen a busy restaurant staffed and working so well like that before. Stopped in for an early lunch with my brother. We were immediately greeted and seated at a half table / half booth. While the table was clean, the booth side had food on the seats and the seat was pretty worn out- large holes and ripped. Our waiter came over quickly- since the Unsweet tea was being brewed, we opted for waters. The waiter suggested the pork dumplings for an appetizer and we also got some edamame. The pork dumplings were delicious- warm and came with a great dipping sauce. The edamame was dry and room temp, expected them to be warmer. For sushi we opted for the rock & roll, spicy salmon and the tempura oyster roll. The spicy salmon came out quick and was rolled good and the pieces were small enough to each whole. The other two rolls- the pieces were rather large, I almost wanted to cut them in half. Too large for my preference and tended to fall apart because it was too big to stay together. The flavor was there, just hard to eat. Our server was good, didn't catch him name, but he was friendly and attentive! The price was average, $35 for two people, two appetizers and three rolls. I would return, but opt for something else on the menu. I would like to see this place updated too! read more

Several friends recommended this particular Masa for excellent sushi and they weren't lying! The service was incredible, I was greeted and seated as soon as I walked through the door, drink order was taken immediately by the hostess. Menu was very extensive and the server was very knowledgeable, even when I asked about something off menu. My drink never reached below half and they were refilling, soup and salad were immediately brought. The Miso soup was excellent and the salad was the freshest I have had in a long time at a restaurant. The staff was very attentive. I ended up ordering from the lunch menu, LS1, which included sashimi and sushi as well as a spicy tuna roll. It was incredible, very fresh. The ambience and decor was a lot of fun and very relaxed. But I'm also a person who NEVER liked seafood, wouldn't even THINK about eating it, and I am now an avid sushi lover. I come very regularly for spicy Thai edamame, gyoza, crispy salmon bites, shaggy dog rolls, and their aged Japanese whiskey. Tricked my cousin who only eats faux (cooked) sushi [think Crunchy and Spider roll] into trying some that had raw fish in it. Success. Also got him to try sake for the first time. I think we did well. Gozilla and Masa's Samurai rolls get 4 stars! The wait was incredibly long (over an hour) but we really weren't in any rush. Waitress told us our sushi would probably take another hour to get to us, they were so backed up so she recommended some apps we could get right away. Great atmosphere for group/family dinner, a date, or just a gal-pal get-together. We've had Dragon Rolls from many different places, but the one from Masa was longer and more densely packed than any we've seen--with very comparable prices! Sake Bombs were great, but a little pricey unless you come after 5 PM on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (then, the small hot sakes are $1!). Beware of ordering the Masa Tower as an appetizer because it will fill you up before your rolls make it to the table! It's delicious though for people who enjoy a variety of texture and tastes all in one big bite. If you like sweetness in your sushi, look for anything that has their honey sauce on it. I enjoyed myself both times I've been there because of the people I went with and the quality of the food. However, Masa doesn't get the full 5 stars because the manager asked my friend and me to move to another table when dinner time rolled around. Apparently, we had worn out our welcome after being there for over 2 hours and ordering over $60 worth of food...and drinks. We left and it was kind of funny with a few sake bombs in my system, but when I sobered up, it seemed kind of rude to displace your early customers to make room for the few that were waiting. It's the first time it's happened to me and I've worked in busy restaurants before, and I've never seen that happen. Is this normal restaurant protocol? Hard to judge the place on my first time then make a review, but I will definitely be back for more. I ordered from the lunch menu the grilled salmon bento box which comes with 4 pieces of california roll, a crab puff (thing...), vegetables, a vegetable roll, rice, soup and salad. It certainly was a filler for a lunch! For the salad, I had their ginger dressing. The other option was a peanut dressing. I tasted both and liked them both. I just thought it was missing something else--after all, the dressing was just slabbed on there without much care for display. The miso soup was quite alright. I mean, can't go wrong with making miso, right? As for the bento box; the salmon was grilled fine. It actually came with a generous amount. The vegetables........ meh. The vegetable roll, quite good. Flavourful. I wish I had more of it. My mom had the yaki udon with chicken and vegetables. The flavour was definitely good, but we'll try soba next time. We ordered vegetable tempura, as well. Small size. I just couldn't understand why include onion in there? Like they were trying to make tempura onion rings? Lol. Our server was attentive. Wish I'd gotten his name so he can be properly recognized! Also, like many others here, I, too, noticed the decor. Absolutely gorgeous place. This place use to be one of my favorite but they seem have lost the standards no one knew what a himachi kama is I tried to get the sushi chief to make me a custom roll with lemon wedges in it he literally put the a thick lemon wedge with the skin on top of the sushi the unagi wasn't fresh at all I hope I don't get sick very disappointed. Me and my girlfriend go to masa sushi which has been the best sushi place for me for a long time. We get seated with Anthony, at this point there's 2 people at the bar and me and my girlfriend. His attitude sucked , didn't seem too interested to answer the questions that my girlfriend had because she's a picky eater . Finally figured out what she wanted and I order 3 rolls of sushi about 30 dollars worth . I couldn't wait to eat and now there 4 tables now . My salad came out first then her stir fry , then her rice 5 min later 30 mins I see him eating food off a plate in the back but no sushi . She asked him where's my food was and he looks in his book and apologizes that he forgot my order with no emotion at all . My girl is nearly finished her meal and he forgot about mine .
