Masala Corner in Rutland was exactly the kind of comforting Indian meal we needed after a long ski day. The interiors were traditional, restaurant was spacious. We ordered chaat papdi, paneer butter masala, garlic naan and rotis. The paneer was the star, clearly house-made and melt-in-the-mouth soft, rich without being heavy. Rotis came out fresh and hot, and everything tasted straight off the stove, warm, soulful, and deeply satisfying. I am from an area outside of Atlanta with a lot of Indian food options. I just had lunch here and the quality of everything I had was excellent. I had the lunch special with Chana Masala, Lamb Curry, with both Naan and Paratha. You can tell that everything is made from scratch with the best of ingredients. Shoutout to the staff here because they worked so hard to provide a good experience to all their customers while short staffed. My friends and I were really hungry and looking for a place to sit 9 of us late in the night. I'm so glad we found this and waited for a table to open it. I had their garlic naan, chicken tikka masala, mango lassi and gulab jamun. I think their tikka masala and mango lassi were on the sweeter side to be honest but they weren't unpleasant. I loved the tenderness of the chicken and the sauce complimented it well. My favorite had to be the naan because I could just eat that non stop. I wish I had ordered more to take with me! We have been enjoying the delicious food by Sunita and her family since they were operating takeout in the Weston convenience store/ gas station location. The selections and food are totally worth the 45 minute drive to their restaurant in Rutland. There are menu staples as well as new and celebratory dishes that match the season or cultural celebration. Family favorites are butter chicken, chicken vindaloo (mild), palak paneer and the samosas. So many naan and bread choices! There are many vegetarian and gluten free options and the menu is clearly marked. How amazing to get GF naan made to order! The best Indian food I have had since I was in India... the waiter was a young, very bright and helpful guy who obviously is excited about his job. He said he loves to bring back sparkling clean plates because the chef gets so happy, she becomes giddy! The service was speedy and the food was UNBELIEVABLY delicious. I got the sag aloo, which was so spicy -- per my request -- and absolutely perfect. My husband got the chicken biryani that he vacuumed up and was finished before I was even halfway done! We got the gluten free roti, which was very yummy. The serving sizes are 'small' in American standards, but the flavors and the quality of the food fills you right up! Both can lead to both areas. The dining area was beautiful with the decor. It was not very crowded when we went and the restaurant lets you take your time. My husband and I knew what we wanted and ordered a - saag paneer (more green that I am used to but doesn't impact the flavor; has a nice kick to it. - garlic naan (wow, I would have gotten 2 of these if i could) - chicken malai korma (they used dark meat which was a nice touch). New Indian restaurant in Rutland vermont. They are open for lunch from 11:00 to 2:00 then they close and they open again for the dinner hours. You enter the space on the corner where there is a take out counter and casual tables for eating. There's a buffet for $11.99, which includes a meat dish, a vegetable dish, rice, and bread, that includes nan, parata or samosa. We got there 5 minutes before 2:00, so we took our food as take out and walked up to the library to sit in the outdoor tables to eat it in the shade. Everything was very tasty. We sampled all for vegetarian dishes. He let us get two veg dishes instead of one veg one meat. While we were waiting for him to prepare our garlic naan we looked at the full serve dining room which they use for dinner and it's absolutely beautiful. The building used to be a bank and the safe is still there. Make sure you take a look at that safe door because it's amazing. We haven't been for dinner yet but we fully expect to go back. This is a great, authentic Indian restaurant. I went for lunch and they have a special of two entrees, rice, and naan for $15.99. I had chicken masala curry and palak paneer with garlic naan. Looking for a local restaurant that could accommodate my particular Whole Food Plant Based (WFPB) eating habit, my daughter hit upon Masala Corner in the heart of downtown Rutland. It being a typical Rutland Saturday night, we had our choice of street parking and chose a convenient spot opposite the restaurant. Walking into the vacant establishment (it was 5pm and they had just opened), we were greeted cordially and shown to a high top in the dine-in section (see photo). After the waiter identified which dishes could be made WFPB and oil free, my daughter ordered the Fish Curry with a side of garlic naan bread, and I opted for the Broccoli Masala. Given that we were the only patrons present, the wait time seemed a bit long before the fish curry was brought out with a bowl of white basmati rice. The fish turned out to be a generous portion of salmon sunk in a pungent curry sauce, which my daughter said was delicious. I had to wait a bit longer for my veggie meal. Once it arrived, I spooned it enthusiastically onto an ample bed of basmati rice--luscious looking broccoli florets, potato cubes, and tomato chunks. The vegetables were fresh and neither over nor under-cooked. Once the initial wave of saltiness receded, a delicately flavorful seasoning bobbed to the surface to tickle my taste buds. We enjoyed our meal, the background music, and this welcoming slice of India on a downtown Rutland street corner. I look forward to a return visit to try the red lentil dish. read more

We have eaten at Masala Corner, maybe a year or maybe two ago. we thought it was good food with some attention from the owners. So this year, today we decided to drive from killington to go there again. The service was excellent, but the food was all pre-made or frozen store food that was bought and re-heated. this explains why all the food is just semi-warm (many reviews state that). our best guess was that their entire afternoon menu is frozen food, heated and garnished with fresh stuff - like the chicken kabab skewers, or the naans, or the samosas... we arrived at 4:30 and they claimed their chef comes in at 5, and the sous chef may or may not be able to make something. So after 5pm we got good onion pakoras and they were freshly made but everything else was pre-heated frozen food that tasted awful. One cannot in good faith claim to have an indian restaurant if one does not make naans and serve frozen naans that are heated up. Even if it is for a small non-suspecting lunch crowd. The lovely people at Masala Corner really do a great job. As a ex-pat British guy who misses a good curry, this is a joy. Their food is exceptional and they do good offers for those on a budget. There is a lunch cafe area and a more traditional restaurant. One thing I like is that you can order "off the menu" if you know what you like such as a meat or vegetarian Thali. For those unfamiliar with them - a thali is like a lunch option with multiple mini dishes including rice and naan. You get a mini starter and a dessert. A bit like a Japanese bento box. It's also a great way to try a few different dishes so you can get an introduction to Indian cuisine. They have service with a smile, please support this local business as they are great. read more

This is a very nice Indian restaurant, and in my opinion is the best that the region has to offer. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. They have a nice lunch special where you can order two choices of vegetable curries, or meat curries for those who aren't vegetarian. I'm a vegetarian, and I find the the vegetarian options tasty and fresh. Even the Basmati rice is fluffy and nicely cooked. One Wednesday's they even have a buffet. The seating in the front room is casual. One can also ask to sit in the more formal restaurant side, which is cozy, and even has an interesting glass roof towards the back. I frequent this restaurant, and I am very grateful is is here. I particularly enjoy the Palak Paneer (spinach and homemade cheese), the dal (spiced yellow lentil thick soup-like dish) and their breads. The food is flavorful and spicy, but not spicy-hot. read more
