Was looking for a vegan option for lunch in Waltham-Masao's was recommended Its a build a plate (or take out box) by the pound price-I think it was around $12.50lb. My take out box was a little hefty so I paid around $19 From the outside it doesn't look like much, but the flavors were solid. My favorite thing on the bar that day was the holiday style green beans with cranberries-I shoulda grabbed an extra scoop of that! Just a nice switch off the normal cold vegan sandwiches and salads you can find elsewhere.. Everything was served hot and fresh and looked appetizing. The bar was clean and well maintained and it was recommended to use either disposable gloves or to well sanitize before touching plates and serving spoons.

This was my first AYCE vegan food! Its a small Japanese home style cafe or shokudo. The seithan variations were impressive! #flexitarian #plantbasedfoodie #plantbasedfoodies

Been going here for years and not only is it next level healthy food all around, but is so tasty that even someone reluctant to try vegan would indulge and love the flavors Masao brings to the table. A must try and a personal favorite forever.

You can count on getting brown rice every day at Masao's Kitchen.

I've been coming here for 17 years as Masao offers a pretty strict macrobiotic/vegan diet of food ~ seasonal veggies, low salt, low sugar, seaweed, grain, and variety of cooking-style foods. I've never been disappointed. With that being said, the menu hasn't changed much in all those years. I guess when you've got a winning healthy food formula, you don't mess with it. He's consistent and I find the food tasty, although for someone not used to eating this way you may think it under-seasoned which is easily solved with the use of condiments. The daily buffet is sold by weight. I highly suggest splurging and getting the tahini custard for dessert. Delish. It could be twice the size and I wouldn't complain. The decor is pretty minimalistic; chairs, small 2-top tables. Definitely nothing fancy. You pour your own water and bus your own table. On street parking on busy Moody Street in Waltham. You can usually find a place to park, no problem.

This place came recommended by a friend of mine who visits here weekly. The food is served buffet style and weighed, so it's nice and quick if you're coming to pick up food on your lunch break! Everything I chose was delicious, well seasoned, and very filling. Vegan spots can be hit or miss for me, but Masao's was definitely a hit. The food is $9.99 a pound so it adds up quick, but for the quality, it's worth it! Masao was very sweet and offered me a free piece of vegan apple cake.

Very nice place with good food . Seating is small but good place in Waltham to get Vegan food.. Would recommend this place as menu changes is month . They have takeout . You pay buy the weight ..

Two plates of hot buffet and almond cookie and oatmeal chip cookie. All vegan.

What a gem! It doesn't look like much from the outside and it kinda doesn't look like much on the inside either, BUT, they offer delicious, home cooked, healthy food that is completely vegan. It's a buffet and you fill your plate and it's priced based on the weight of your plate (or take out container). They also have soups and they'll cook you noodles but I kinda didn't understand how that would happen so I stuck to the buffet. They also have free bread. There is a variety of baked goods. The cookies were a little too crunchy for my liking but the taste was good. The apple strudel looked amazing but sadly had no flavor at all. The food on the buffet was quite tasty and very flavorful. There is seating inside but it's small. I would totally go back in a heartbeat.

    BBQ tofu, etc.

What a pleasant surprise on multicultural Moody Street. I was transported back to my younger years visiting food cooperatives and natural foods hot bars in northern New England. The food was tasty - really enjoyed the BBQ tofu. Some of the sides, however, were bland. It's priced by weight, so big eaters could pay a lot. I ate a vegan oatmeal cookie for dessert and it had an unexpectedly crunchy consistency, almost like a granola bar. Masao's is very small and the decor is somewhat tired. He does the most with the limited space he has, but more seating would be nice. We went on a casual business lunch and thankfully caught an open table.

Masao's is closed for good. The owner had a mild stroke and cannot come back. There is no food like Masao's. I'm in mourning.

Do they have any vegan desserts?

Everything at Masao's is vegan and natural (no artificial ingredients). Desserts contain only natural (no refined) sweeteners) and are very satisfying.

Upon entering we were asked if we preferred our food from either the vegetarian kitchen ("kitchen" mind you, not just "menu") or the meat kitchen? My wife and I have very long years of experience with Moody street Indian restaurants and Indian food generally. In Cambridge Mass. I had what I would describe as the high class Indian food. Having lived with Indian/South Asian people in the Boston area. I have also had, on Moody St. Indian food that was the exact same as the wonderful home cooked food enjoyed by your average Indian. I would best describe Peppinos Dosa cuisine as 'slow cooked' Indian food. At all the other, 3-4, Indian restaurants on Moody St.There always seemed to be very little difference between them, in the food and flavors. All of the food we had here stood way out ahead of the many others. Prices were competitive. The server "Sai" was genuine in his desire to provide the best customer service. I give this restaurant our highest recommendation.

Enzina sits in a 19th century brick building that it shares with its sister bakery. It seats about 12 tables so reservations are highly recommended. We were greeted promptly by the manager who was genuinely friendly - warmth is not a trait shared by most Bostonians. We ordered a large sausage pizza. The crust is made fresh daily by Enzina's bakery while the sauce is made in-house. The sausage is the star here - made locally by a high street Italian butcher shop. The final product was a masterpiece of east coast pie - firm crust, properly sauced, and a compelling amount of the delicious Italian sausage. We alo ordered the Tagliatelle Bolognese which was some of the best we have ever enjoyed. The sauce is made from veal, pork, and beef and only served on the day it is made (leftovers is given to a local food bank.) The house-made pasta was perfectly al dente. We would rate this Bolognese in our all-time Top Ten, which is saying a lot. Typical trattoria ambiance, prompt service, and delicious fare! Enzina is a must visit.
