I use to come here all the time to get the Mashawi salad because it was good. I went tonight and paid $22 for a full salad and it was not even the normal salad that is usually loaded with chicken, rice, cucumbers, and pita chips. I literally got lettuce and pita chips for $22. I called back and spoke with "Casey" who was rude and not even apologetic, needless to say I'm gonna go up there tomorrow to get my credit but I will not return after that. Thanks a lot! read more

I've been to a few Zankou's in the SG Valley and this hopefully is NOT the South Bay version as other Yelpers early on (10 years ago?) had noted. I went by a recommendation from a friend and wanted to preview it before bringing my family here. So glad i did to spare them the disappointment. I was trying to order and the lady at the register didn't acknowledge me but chose to ignore me. She obviously saw me and continued to stare down. It was a few minutes of me patiently waiting. Another friendlier lady took my order. I was told it would be a 10-15 minute wait. So after I ordered, I waited. It seemed that it was taking a long time. When I asked, I was told the order had been sitting there. There was just one other couple dining there and they already had their food. If I hadn't asked who knows how long I would have sat there. I think this place is ok. We got a beef shawarma plate (with hummus and rice pilaf) and a kids plate (with fries). The plates do come with a lot of protein. Huge plus! My hubby finished it and said he was full and he eats a lot! However I do wish it came with some veggies (aside as a side). A slice of tomato or cucumber would be nice. I felt like the entire dish needed that to make it complete. The kids plate is $8 and came with one chicken skewer, fries, pita and a drink. Not sure if it's for kids under 12 but I was allowed to order it. LOL. I think this is a pretty good value and it's actually very filling for an adult. Used to love it here But the prices have gone up and the quality has gone down. Also, they have gotten very skimpy with sides like rice and steamed veggies ( 4 broccoli, 5 carrots and 2 pices of zuccihini) and the salad hardly has anything other than lettuce in it. At $58 for three meals, you think you could just serve enough rice and veggies since they don't cost much. The pita was super stale. The steak kebob had only four pieces - one inedible that was all fat and the other three were chewy and hard to cut. This is one of my go to Mediterranean take out places. I love the tri-tip and chicken shawarma combo. I order a plate each with extra pita with side dishes of hummus, garden salad, rice pilaf and French fries. Make sure you order the extra pita because there is never enough. This place used to be amazing. Every time we call in to order we get put on hold forever or the person just sounds annoyed to be working. This attitude doesn't just happen over the phone, it happens in person. The girls seem to be too good to take your order, the guys seem to just not care. Two guys literally sit outside of the restaurant, I'm assuming the owners and even they look unpleasant. On one of our orders there was a mix up on what we ordered compared to what the cook put on the plate. When I addressed this you could see the cook get visibly upset muttering things under his breath while aggressively re-making our food. I get you have bad days but come on. We reluctantly keep coming back to this location due to the fact the food is good but if the Redondo beach location was closer then we would be there solely due to the service. I was in this place today and was wondering why was the place empty when it was the afternoon. I in the past couple of years ordered several times from this location and food would look&taste fresh, portions were good but not this time my first time this year. I ordered chicken shawarma and beef kabobs. The chicken Shawarma rotating grill was off. The guy cut what you see in the photo and warmed it up. I asked the lady on the register why is my Shawarma in pits and pieces and chicken didn't look fresh. She didn't answer. The kabob was ok but the plate all together did not look appetizing at all. The meat was not fully cooked. It was medium rare. I had to recook in the microwave and rearrange the plate to look a little appetizing so I could eat some of it. I have enjoyed Mashawi's food since they opened, but I will no longer support them due to poor service practices. Twice now I have placed UberEATS orders for pickup. They do not start the order until you arrive and claim the Wi-Fi or iPad isn't working and ask you what your order was. This is especially odd due to the fact they mark your order as ready 5 minutes after placing it. Then they ask you to wait 20 minutes while they prepare your order. Really tough when you have a child in the car and your intent was to grab and go. Here's where the upsetting part starts, the manager is sitting in his car outside with their phone accepting the orders. This is disheartening considering they charge extra money for UberEATS pickup orders. It feels like a blatant way to make more money on pickup orders and not provide the service. I don't like being taken advantage of as a customer and lied to. The food is excellent, but the service has slipped really hard over the years. The employees look really unhappy as well. I feel bad for them. Out of respect for the employees and them seeming to make up information per management, you lost a long time customer. I would argue that Mashawi Grill is one of the best restaurants in the city! I love their falafel plate, and their hummus is great! But I did find something concerning in my salad today, and I'm a little bummed. Some of the lettuce was turning and starting to brown around the edges. I'm a bit lenient with some food so I ignored it, but I eventually got to one piece of lettuce and in piece of tomato that were black already. It's a little concerning. I think as long as it doesn't happen again I'll remain a customer for life. This has been my only complain so far. Everything else has been great. read more

One of my daughter Sophie's favorite food is Mediterranean. We've been to many such restaurants but here in Torrance we found Mashawi Grill when it had some construction on-going during the dreadful COVID days. Well our visit this time was a pleasant surprise as the construction was done and the interiors look very nice! One thing they should have is an overhead menu board. All they had was a laminated menu at the order counter. So if you're waiting in line you can't browse and decide what to order before approaching the counter. But minor issue. Jojo and I ordered the beef kofta and Sophie ordered the chicken shawarma both for takeout. The kofta comes in a bed of yellow rice pilaf and 2 sides. Jojo chose hummus and salad. I chose hummus and tzatziki. Sophie loves her carbs and ordered garlic fries lol. But then again she's still young and she swims. The verdict: Kofta- very good beef and the rice was moist and full of flavor. This is the best pilaf I've had so far compared with other places. Plus they are overly generous with the portion of hummus made even better with olive oil and paprika. You'll need to have extra pita bread as you'll finish the bread and still have lots of leftover hummus. Great for take home! The tzatziki was very refreshing to eat. Chicken shawarma- good flavor but it seemed a bit dry. Garlic fries- amazing! Love to eat this more if not for my intent on keeping my carb and deep fried food intake low. Plus... Mashawi Grill is good option if you are craving Mediterranean food in the South Torrance area. There's a few Mediterranean restaurants in the area and all of them are pretty good. They all have their pros and cons at each place. Mashawi Grill is located in the Rolling Hills Plaza, next to Rubio's and the upcoming Stonefire Grill. There's plenty of places to eat in this plaza, but I enjoy coming here for their lunch plates! // FOOD // Beef lula kefta kebob: Ground beef with a blend of spices. The perfect blend of spices in ground beef and with a nice charbroiled flavor. It's seasoned well and goes well with the sides. 4/5 Chicken kabob: Marinated chicken breast. The chicken has been really salty the last couple times that I've ordered this. Not sure if it's always like this, but it was really salty. I couldn't even eat all of the pieces of chicken before I had to stop. 2/5 Side Options: Hummus, spicy hummus, cole slaw, baked potato, yogurt cucumber, steamed veggies, garden salad, tabouli, fries, and garlic fries (+$0.75). Rice Options: Brown rice, rice pilaf, jasmine rice. For the sides I usually like to choose between the spicy hummus, steamed veggies, and the garlic fries. The spicy hummus actually has a slight kick to it which is what I really like. Overall, the food here is pretty good and fixes my Mediterranean food cravings. I would suggest getting the beef kefta kabob versus the chicken kabob. I still have to try the rotisserie chicken in the future. read more

A decent Mediterranean restaurant for the South Bay. Veggie options are slim. My dining partner ordered the greek salad and we were impressed by the freshness of all the ingredients. The dressing was spot-on and the serving size was generous. I ordered the falafel plate. I'm not a huge fan of deep fried foods but this was the only vegetarian plate option on a menu clearly meant for meat eaters. The falafel was well done, but again, not my cup of tea. The hummus, tahini and salad were good. The meat options looked great but if you have veggie eaters in your party, there are better options in the South Bay (check my reviews). read more

The Meateater BF happened to stumble upon this place. I was craving salad and Mashawi Grill has a super legit Fattoush Salad! You're probably thinking that just because I'm vegan, I'll get excited about salad. That's not true at all. Boring salads suck. But the Fattoush Salad is not boring at all! It's been a while since I visited this restaurant because of prior bad experiences, but in a craving for more variety, I decided to come back and get my favorite mashawi salad. I'm not sure if there was a change in ownership or if they just cleaned house, but it was like visiting an entirely different restaurant. The food was exceptional, and the staff was kind and attentive. It also appeared that they upgraded their interior as the ambiance was very nice with many new seating areas and fresh paint. The food is very good but the service has really gone down hill. I tried to call in a take out order tonight when I was over at Kohl's. The phone just kept ringing and no one ever picked up. I finally just decided to head their for my take out order and wait. When I got here, I told the young man that I think his phone might be broken because I kept trying to call. He said yeah they are. No apology or anything. Then I proceeded with my order, including a kids meal. After paying, I asked about the kids drink. I was informed that they aren't doing those right now because they don't have the fountain drinks. I asked if I could have a soda then, and was told no. Here's my issue, if you are going to charge a high price (10 dollars for a kids meal) and not offer the drink, then let the patron know before you charge them. OR be accommodating and give them a canned soda or bottled water. read more

Falafel plate is what I ordered tonight and the two girls working the register at 6:30 were not friendly and not very helpful for a first timer. We had to wait quite a bit for our food to come. Maybe because it was Saturday night? We also had a hard time finding a place to sit. Not because there wasn't enough seating. All the tables were filthy dirty. I saw some customers cleaning the tables so they have a place to sit and the girls at the register stood there and watched. Then out food came. My falafel was so over cooked and dry that I couldn't stick my fork in it to cut! And when I did get my fork in it, I didn't need the knife because it just crumbled in half! Second and last visit for us. Sorry. The second visit was a completely different experience. Very expensive and the food was DRY. We ate in and while the restaurant is super clean and well lighted it was like sitting in a meat locker. I asked the young woman at the counter (who was wearing a sweatshirt) if their AC was on and she only giggled as she knew it was freezing. It's just not worth the money they charge.
