Mash'D is a great addition to the Rim, and is in a great location. It's close to La Cantera, near UTSA, and there are a lot of cool new places that have opened near it such as the Rustic and Bowl & Barrel. I enjoyed the food and appreciated the novelty of their moonshine. They also have a nice indoor and outdoor spaces for you to dine and drink. I came for brunch and purchased the dinner menu for The Chicken and a flight of moonshine, which is a sample of them. The chicken was actually pretty remarkable and it was large enough that I took some for a second meal later that night. It came with a large portion of mashed potatoes with the skin mashed in. I'm happy that I got the flight since I was able to sample a wide array of drinks. The atmosphere at brunch was nice as well. It was packed inside and outside. I ended up sitting at the bar to order. Absolutely loved my experience at this rebellious American joint! From the awesome cool newspaper menu to the service and the food, our overall experience here was unforgettable. The atmosphere is very casual, cool and hip. So if you're looking to have a night out with friends, colleagues or even a casual dinner night, this place is perfect. The service was great. The food was delicious! The fries are a must try - one of my favorite in town! You can never go wrong with food made Inhouse. Apparently everything here is made from scratch. While we went for dinner, the server told us about their brunch and we definitely intend on going back for their famous egg Benedict. I tried the fish sandwich with a side of salad(Cesar salad) and hubby had the rebellious burger. He loved his and I adored mine as well. Mash'd is a nice little paradox: a classy homage to moonshine. Don't get me wrong, it's not fine dining with waiters in tuxedos, but serious effort has been put into the food and décor. Before dinner I wanted to ride the WHITE LIGHTNING straight up so I tried a flight. The differences were, for me, difficult to distinguish, but the waiter explained all the flavor notes to look for and made the experience much more interesting. A hearty helping of Sheppard's pie went well with the hard liquor. Most of the menu options are rich and heavy. The same ended up being true for breakfast. Yeah, I went back in the morning, and to my surprise, with a year in between, the quality was consistent, delicious, satisfying. The dining area is small but nice. Bar tops surrounded by booths. We ended up at Mash'd on Saturday night around 10:30 pm. The kitchen closes at 11:00 pm, but we got there just in time to order. We ended up having the wings (perfectly fried and not greasy - I had them with the sriracha garlic butter sauce on the side) and the hubs had the Rebellious Burger (two patties, american cheese, ketchup, mayo, chopped onions, bacon, and a sunny-side up egg). He proclaimed it to be one of the best burgers he's ever had! For drinks, we chose the Jolly Rancher craft cocktail, served in a mason jar. It consists of fresh watermelon-infused moonshine, lime and sugar. They're sneaky little drinks, so be careful! I had mine and half of my husband's and felt absolutely no pain!! They're really tasty without being overly sweet. Our server, Joey, was very attentive and our water glasses were never empty. His food suggestions were on point! Very cute place for a brunch date or just brunch with the girls. I heard this place can get pretty busy for brunch so I made a reservation conveniently on their website. I ordered the chicken & biscuits since I heard that that was the thing to order here. I got the half portion and that was HUGE. I'm so glad I went with the suggestions from my friends. Although it looked like a sloppy mess, I couldn't stop eating it. The chuck Norris gravy was so savory and it was like heaven in my mouth. It was the perfect combo with the biscuits and the crispy fried chicken breast that was under the blanket of gravy goodness. Brunch at Mash'd is a must when visiting The Rim! There's many unique plates to choose from including the Southern Fried Eggs. The sauce on top makes the whole plate! That's what's the most enjoyable about Mash'd is the unique flavors found in each plate that you just can't get anywhere else. If you're not one to venture off when it comes to eating then I highly recommend the manhole pancake. It's an off menu item but they will still make it if you ask. I absolutely LOVE Mash'd and their staff. FYI: Parking can be hard to find so I either park at the Palladium parking lot or the parking garage across the restaurant. The parking garage is free and totally convenient. I've hosted multiple large party occasions here and the staff is so accommodating. The manager works with you and makes sure everything turns out great. I use Open Table to reserve our table in advance. 10/10 recommend trying their pizza. It is literally the best pizza in town! Oh this is the place to go for queso! They serve you warm pretzels to go with it. It's amazing. In fact that's the whole reason I went. I'm so glad I did! However, I ordered the beet salad and was actually disappointed. I may have been expecting something other than what I received. There was a LOT of vegetables (which I had hoped for) but I for some reason thought the dish was going to be roasted beets? I don't know why I thought that. It may not have been described that way in the menu. My friend ordered the chicken fried steak and it looked amazing. Next time I will order comfort food bc it looks as if that is their specialty. I love this restaurant! We were able to be seated into a booth relatively quickly after setting a reservation on a Friday around 6:30pm. I ordered a half serving of the meatloaf (recommended by our server) and a Pineapple Bomb cocktail. Both were the perfect combo for a hearty Friday feast. We actually started with an appetizer of the queso and sweet corn dips with a side of tortilla chips. The queso is the perfect compliment to the fresh, crunchy corn and bits of seasoning dashed throughout. Although we requested a second basket of chips, the dip is only big enough for really one basket of them. After sipping on the sweet and sour cocktail and munching on the queso chips, I had very little room for the main course. Luckily, Mash'd does a half (still generous) portion of their amazing meatloaf. The meatloaf is marinated in a slightly acidic and sweet orange-colored sauce. Served with a side of creamy mashed potatoes, the meal is very rich and not for the light of heart. After dinner, we both felt very sleepy, almost simulating a Thanksgiving-level doziness. The ambience is very playful and chatty with the huge bar on the side of the restaurant, bar-style high-tables, and plenty of outdoor porch seating. The booths offer a great view of the kitchen if you are curious about what the chefs are up to. The only peculiar thing I noticed about this restaurant was the use of a Youtube playlist. There was one video of a man climbing up a deserted windmill and doing various heart-racing challenges that gave me a sense of vertigo as we were there. I opted for fruit instead of the smashed potatoes. I was happy to see it was a huge serving of fresh berries instead of the commonly seen melon and grapes. The shrimp boil was inside a paper bag with a foil inner layer that kept all the juices, sauce, and flavoring in. I dipped all my potatoes, corn, and shrimp back in the sauces to eat. The pizza, the Motor city style pizza. Was the cheesiest, the crispiest, the best high dollar pizza I ever had. Normally as a rule I don't order expensive personal pizza, but after seeing it I had to have it. Boy, was it worth it. Yes, it truly lived up to it's $18.95 ticket. My wife got he 6 count rib plate. The Mash'D tatoes were really good and cheesy. The slaw looked good but I didn't try it. And then there was the star of her dish, the sauces ribs. They were so tender that if you were not paying attention when you bit them you could bite right thru and smash teeth. It is like you are biting room temperature butter. So juicy, so meaty.
