Waited awhile and decided to give it another go. It's just so close to the house and convenient. Recently diagnosed celiac and trying to be careful so I ordered the gluten free cauliflower crust with the southwestern pizza. While this pizza sounded amazing, it was a complete let down. First off it wasn't even hot. The cheese wasn't completely melted in the middle and the meat tasted like left over pork roast they microwaved. It was scarcely topped and again, super underwhelming. Husband ordered the same but with regular crust and his was just as bad. He tried mine as well. Waitress was absolutely amazing though! She was so kind and attentive. I felt so bad that I didn't even tell her how bad the food was. I always feel bad for the wait staff when the kitchen messes up. 5/5 for waitress... 0/5 for pizza. read more

It smells great when you walk in but that is where the positives stop. My waitress never introduced herself and seemed as if I was bothering her. I ordered a cold brew coddle and a breakfast sandwich with rosemary potatoes and fruit. Everything was nasty. The cold brew has no flavor. After putting cream and 3 sugars it still was bad. The food comes out and the sandwich looks good however the 1/2 loaf used for the sandwich only had 2 pieces of bacon and what looks to be 3-4 eggs. The bread was nice and fresh but the eggs were bland and the bacon limp. The potatoes were not hot and had no flavor except a sprinkle of rosemary. I tried to doctor them up with salt and pepper but that didn't help. The fruit bowl looked like frozen fruit thawed out and thrown in a bowl. The waitress never came back to ask me how my food was. I had to waive her down to ask for my check so I could leave and go find an edible meal. read more

A thoroughly delightful dining experience. We "won by losing" when another local institution had an unreasonable wait, and stopped by the Mason Jar. We were pleased with the updates they've made to the bar area which added some additional tables, and were seated right away. Our server who was doubling as a bartender brought his full personality. Engaged and personable. They had some interesting cocktails to choose from. We began with salads. Well-prepared, if straightforward. The main dish was the highlight. I had the Duck Pappardella. The big, fun pappardella noodles were perfectly prepared. The duck confit was well seasoned and cooked. The sauce and cubed veggies lightened and lifted the dish. The best plate of food I've had in the South Metro in recent memory. My wife had the Bison Swedish Meatballs. Excellently prepared comfort food elevated by the wild mushroom veal Demi glacé and the lingonberry sauce. Dessert was crème brûlée, which came out in unpretentious aluminum tins. The custard was just right, nicely flavored, with a good sugar crust on top. A very good rendition of a classic that others can't seem to get quite right. Mason Jar stood out this evening a a bright star in a restaurant market filled with mediocrity and worse. Bravo! read more

I have been here countless times with my grandchildren. Their food is not comparable to any other restaurant I have been to. I do not really like any of their savory dishes. That's just because I am a sweet young gal if you know what I mean. The staff are always accommodating. This is a seriously cute place. The interior does its name justice with mason jars hanging from the ceiling and all stacked along the windows. We got there during prime brunch/lunch hours so there was a good number of people, but we were still able to seated promptly. I was surprised by how many delicious offerings they had on the menu. Depending on where you end up, a brunch menu can be limited and it's hard to find something, but here they had lots of traditional and otherwise dishes--there's even a hotdish breakfast item. I got the breakfast skillet with pulled pork--it also came with breakfast potatoes, onions, scrambled eggs, and cheddar cheese. It was served hot and in a little cast iron skillet. All in all, the food was good, however, once we got our food we didn't see our server until we were finished so there was no topping off of beverages or anything like that. My last time at MJK, which may be the last time, they didn't respect my reservation, were not helpful in ordering, and some orders had errors when served. Two of us made reservations for Saturday lunch at 1pm. The restaurant was full and busy. We were seated pretty close to our 1pm reservation time. Hostess was friendly and fast. We ordered from the Weekend Brunch Menu. Smoked Salmon Breakfast Stack $18 honey smoked salmon, cheesy au gratin potatoes with shallots, toasted brioche, sunny-side-up egg; served with spicy hollandaise sauce. Every layer was absolutely delicious. (The Salmon was warm / cool. Perhaps it sat a while waiting for the Pot Roast to heat in the oven?) But it tasted so good, I ate it 'as is'. Pot Roast $18 slow roasted with carrots, celery, onion; smothered with garlic mashed potatoes and MJK gravy. It was Perfect portion, hot and tasty. We purchased cupcakes to go. Went for Oktoberfest and what a hoot! Costumes, polka band, German beers and competitions. After enjoying the patio, our group decided to eat in the restaurant. Finding gluten free breakfast is super hard and I was really happy when I discovered Mason Jar had items I could eat. I love breakfast and going gluten free and losing out on so many places and options was really difficult. The scrambles I got were super tasty and the hash browns were so crispy and hit the spot. The coffee was great...and their desserts looked wonderful. My chicken pot pie was mostly mushrooms with everything cut up like baby food with no texture. The crust is a separate piece of very thick pastry and the underlying pot pit was cold. Took almost 20 minutes to get another one that was heated. My first time visiting this gem in Eagan! You can dine in for dinner, brunch or lunch. You can also stop by for coffee and dessert. The menu boasts a variety of hearty and light fare options including; handhelds, salads, salmon, pizza, and appetizers. They have a great happy hour menu that includes food and drink discounts. During my visit I had the house salad and vegan pizza. The salad was verrrry basic with just greens, a few pieces of cucumber, and 2 cherry tomatoes. This was ok as it was only 4.00 to be added on to my entree. The vegan pizza I had was very delicious!!! Beyond meat, chorizo, cheese, and mushrooms!! This really satisfied my tastebuds. This is a great place for happy hour! Prices are cheap for basic appetizers and reduced alcoholic beverages. The mason jar theme is kitschy and cute. Notice the whisk for a door handle, mason jars all over the restaurant, and moss gardens on the table. One thing I really liked inside were the large booths. They are deep and some sit at least 6-10 people. If you find yourself here on a beautiful day, sit on the patio. The view is nothing spectacular since this restaurant is on the end of a strip mall, but somewhat hidden with the fencing. The menu is full of comfort foods, like tatortot hotdish, pot pies and nachos. I was happy to see some local brews on tap and canned available. Don't forget to eat or take a delicious cupcake with you from the adjoined restaurant! read more

This place has such a nice vibe. I always like to try something new and unique. I got a tuna melt, but this was open faced on a cranberry wild rice bread and delicious, even the white tuna part. My friend ordered a southwest cobb salad. It was a good size and she just planned on having about half and ended up eating the whole thing. They have a very tasty iced tea. I like this location and there's plenty of room to eat on the patio. I was here awhile ago and recall a delicious hummus platter. I don't get to this part of Eagan often, but you won't have to twist my arm to come here. read more

I was at Mason Jar for breakfast for the 2nd time in about a month. The first time I came in with a friend on a Sunday morning and we sat at the bar. Service was fine, not super friendly, but fine. I loved the atmosphere. It's bustling but not super loud. I had to ask the bartender to wipe the bar down as it was filthy, but the menus were QR code cards which aren't my favorite but at least I didn't deal with a sticky menu. I had the mushroom and spinach scramble and my friend had the fajita omelette and both were really good. I came in last Sunday morning with my husband after telling him about the food and how cute the restaurant was. The hostess handed us the QR card/menus and told us to sit at the bar, and as we headed there, a server blocked my husband and asked him if he had been instructed to seat himself. He said yes and she continued to stand in front of him and asked to see his menu. He showed it to her and she allowed us to proceed. Both of us felt like we'd been accused of something. We sat down and again, filthy bar which I asked to have cleaned up but the bartender forgot. Fine, not a really big deal, I just wouldn't lick the bar or anything. ;) The bartender brought us water and then we waited about 10 minutes and flagged her down to order a cinnamon roll and a couple mimosas.We got that and flagged someone else down for silverware and butter. We got the silverware in a minute but after about 5 minutes we waved to get her attention for the missing butter. We finished the roll, and waited another 15 minutes or so and then waved to get someone's attention (by now there were 2 bartenders on and numerous food runners and servers coming and going behind the bar) so that we could order breakfast. Our drinks had been dry since we ordered the cinnamon roll. We ordered our food and they let our empty drinks, plates and silverware sit in front of us. I finally asked a server if she could help us get another drink and they eventually arrived and the dirty dishes cleared. We weren't too far away from walking out when our food eventually showed up. You guessed it, we had to flag the bartender down again for silverware and salt and pepper after she walked by us twice as we sat with our food in front of us. I used to be a server and bartender so I began watching - they weren't looking around at their guests, they were only focused on the ticket in their hand or the food they were delivering. Now, you'd think we are the most surly couple or we'd somehow mistreated the staff to be ignored like this. We were actually thrilled to be out for breakfast as it's something we never do, and we were in a great mood. Unfortunately, we left frustrated and like we'd wasted a rare Sunday morning out. I know staff is short right now for most restaurants but this wasn't a case of that, it was just pure lack of training or care. read more

Yesterday we wanted chili for the Vikings game and didnt have time to make. We called and wanted a family order of chili and we were told no family orders unless we wanted the chili mac. So husband picked it up and brought it home. Its like where is the chili? It was a huge batch of mac and cheese. So he called and complained that this wasnt chili mac and what they could do. After the mgr. argues with him-she agreed to give us chili to pour in to it. OMG it was horrible. For the tune of $52 (we did get a cornbread) small order I couldnt believe how awful it was. Mason Jar is a nice restaurant with some very good dishes. It's incredibly popular, and so each time we have gone, (different times of day), it always feels chaotic and hurried, and it can take a long while for someone to even acknowledge you. The menu is incredibly diverse, with many of the more common menu items available, but with a special twist. Some unique offerings and some diverse ingredients. The actual results are mixed and very hit/miss. Some menu descriptions have sounded better than the actual dish. On our last visit we brought a friend from out of state for brunch and it was disappointing. The high price does not match the quality of some of the dishes. Two of the three of us actually had errors in our orders. We felt badly for the overworked waitress, so we just ate everything without bothering her. I really want this place to be successful! I just always feel like they've bitten off a bit more than they can chew. A very vast menu, plus, lots of wonderful local ingredients, (lots of different places to work with) and most sauces, breads, etc. are house made, and... a craft bar, a bakery with fancy cupcakes, and ice cream? Visiting from California and went with 2 friends who'd been here before and thought it was a good thing to take me for a weekend breakfast. Seated and immediately noticed how loud it was. High ceilings with no sound dampening created a cacophony of echos. I could barely hear my friends speaking, but could hear voices from across the room yelling to each other over the loud environment. We had a friendly waiter. But he appeared to be new and was unable to answer basic menu questions, so most of them were left unanswered or he'd come back after asking about them for us. Three times he forgot things we'd ask for. Water. Place settings and menu questions he'd stepped away to ask about. We gave him a reprieve because we assumed he was new at his job. Once the food was delivered. My friends orders were all good, but my pancakes were cold. After 2 bites. I called our waiter over to let him know and he stared at me like I just threw hot coffee in his face. He didn't know what to say. Didn't apologize, but finally asked me if I wanted them warmed up!! I said of course I didn't and to take them away. He then asked if I wanted a replacement and at first I said no because I didn't even like the taste of the pancakes. Raw inside and cold! I asked him about other pancake options (they have 2), and I went with the other option. My friends continued to enjoy their breakfasts while I waited for mine. When it finally came out. They were also cold! Had my friends both try the 2nd order of pancakes and they couldn't believe it either! Called our waiter over and told him the replacement order pancakes were also cold. At that point it was too late to order anything else, so I asked the waiter to take the order off the check. Huge let down. Needless to say. My friends were disappointed with the loud ambiance and me with the food debacle. No apology from the waiter either about the kitchens inability to serve hot food. Ok, while we've been here before, this trip we had a real family visit. Breakfast is strength here! Entering, we got seated in a more intimate area to the back right of the host stand. Smaller space with a fireplace and several large TV's playing different programs. Out grandson and our party were amused and fed at the same time. Ask for the pull apart cinnamon rolls (there are only so many...ask) well worth the effort. Quiche was a little dry, and my first try of the eggs Benedict with lobster way too rich (next time regular Eggs Benedict for me.) Always great baked good and robust coffee. A reliable tasty place for breakfast and lunch. Never been here for dinner but everything else...superb. Theyr'e doing restaurant week MSP this year. Looks great! read more

Chicken pot pie was really good, seems a little different from the last time I had it a year ago, less veggies and chicken but lots of wild rice, could use with a little more cream sauce. I would definitely order again. It should list on your menu that you can get the same sides as the entries for +$4.00, confusing since this is stated only under entrees and not Minnesota favorites. Otherwise, add some items to sides like bowl of fruit, fresh veggies for 1-2, just seems confusing. A little skimpy on your wine pour for $10 per glass. I brought out of town relatives here, and my overall feeling was that they weren't really impressed. I felt bad since I recommended the Mason Jar. Service was OK, no specific complaint, but it wasn't memorable. All in all, an OK dining experience with the food being the best quality. read more

A quintessential "neighborhood" restaurant. Excellent food, attentive service (except when they are overrun) and a nice vibe - on the outside deck seating in particular. This is my go-to breakfast place in Eagan but we occasionally stop in for dinner or lunch. We have never been disappointed. Great coffee. A couple of comments: Poutine - plz cut back on the blue cheese (it's a French dish so no need to overwhelm it). Wild Rice Soup - OMG. Don't change a thing. The best cup of this soup that I've had in the Twin Cities. Simple and perfect. Bravo. On the weekend, try the Smoked Salmon Stack - amazing combination of flavors in a spicy Hollandaise. Great food! This place can get pretty noisy indoors when full, so bailout to the deck if weather permits and you want to be able to hear your dining partner! read more

They have wonderful eggs, breakfast potatoes, great coffee, wild rice soup, 2- or 3-item lunch bundles, and a killer porterhouse pork chop! The food is always carefully prepared and served in a timely manner by cheerful, helpful employees. The wine list is not long nor distinguished, but there are plenty of options for pairing with your meal. My fiancé got the pork belly breakfast skillet - he loved it his response to me asking him was "fiiiiire" it came out very very fresh and hot so it did take a little to cool down but this is honestly the best problem to have. I had the Huevos Rancheros without meat - since I had this I've been craving it so needless to say it was phenomenal. Portions look small at first but they are actually the perfect size so do not let this deter you, we finished out plates completely without any hunger left. read more
