I've been here 4 times and none of those times was I impressed with the food. Today 10 of us went in for Happy Hour. I told the hostess that we would need separate checks, she said they can't do that but they would do 4 people per check. I explained that that had never been an issue in the past when we have come in. She said, "well that's the way we do it now." My response, "well if I had known that I would not have brought 10 people with me". The server however had no problem with separate checks and he was a really good server. OK now for the food - I will only comment on mine and not the rest of the table. I ordered off of the Happy Hour menu - sliders (2) and fries. What I got was 2 pieces of burned beyond recognition impersonations of beef the size of quarters on buttery toasted cold buns - the meat was also cold, the cheese wasn't melted! As for the fries I received 6 - yes 6 cold french fries. When I questioned the quantity I was told that was what is served for Happy Hour. My suggestion don't have food for Happy Hour stick to drinks and just let people order off the regular menu. I did enjoy the Lemon Drop martini however there was far too much sugar on the rim. The server did offer to have my burgers remade but I just didn't want to wait - I ate them "as is". Note: we were the only people in the place besides the wait staff so it's not like the cook was overwhelmed or anything. Went to lunch yesterday (Monday) around 1230. Maybe 3 other tables there, no one greeted us, so we took a seat in the bar area. Certain things caught our eyes on the menu, but unfortunately they were out of all 3 of those food items. We also ordered 2 house margaritas and one VIRGIN margarita (seeing that I am pregnant). The waitress seemed unsure about this choice but said she could make it. Food was not exciting and definitely not special in any way. We got the bill and noticed we were charged for 3 margaritas, so we questioned why a virgin is the same cost. The waitress just said "thats just how it is here." We showed our distaste for this response and she smiled and assured us there was nothing to be done. I should have ordered a lemonade, because thats what it was. Went there and as soon as I walked in there was a lady leaving, saying awful service! We were immediately greeted and offered to sit inside or outside. Our waiter was there within 5 minutes and was patient with us deciding what we wanted and came back every few minutes and helped when asked what he recommended between two items that I had picked. We had their lunch during a work event and the wraps and salads were good, not great. We decided to try one more time with two friends last night and it was consensus that the food is not good. The steak was overdone and more like roast beef. The burger had no flavor and came with the wrong toppings. The chicken sandwich was ok - the chicken was good but the slaw was not as described whatsoever. Had to fully remove it. Everyone tried it and agreed it was not only gross but wasn't was described on the menu. The pork sandwich was by far the worst. The service was decent. Our bill, two dinners, three drinks $58. Our friends $51.00, two dinner three drinks. We kept getting the wrong tabs. After three attempts, we said forget it and just paid to leave. Ordered $52 worth of food on door dash for delivery. We got the fry platter, spaghetti and meatballs, capellini pomodoro, and a slice of Tiramisu. This was the most underwhelming food I've ever eaten. I didn't expect anything as I haven't been there or read any reviews but the food was simply horrible. The portion sizes were minuscule. I was appalled. Neither of the pasta dishes had really any flavor, at all. The garlic bread was comparable to the breadsticks at Pizza Hut. When you turn them over it looks the exact same. The fries were soggy and there wasn't much in there to begin with, they tasted like frozen food. I paid $10 for that. The only enjoyable part of the whole meal was the Tiramisu. I personally believe you should get a bigger portion for the $8 you spend but that being said it tasted as Tiramisu should, it was flavorful and creamy. If you like bland food and tiny portion sizes then maybe this place is for you. Maybe the dessert is more enjoyable like the Tiramisu? read more

Saturday night and nothing in the fridge for dinner. So after reviewing our options my husband found Masonry Grill. I had had a yen for calzone, but as I love breakfast, whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner, I went for the Breakfast Hamburger. Yum! A friend and I went there today for lunch. The server was great. It was early in the day a little after 11. I ordered the Monte Cristo lunch special. I was very disappointed in this sandwich. It was not well constructed and was sort of just a general mass on my plate. The jelly they served on the side was more of a syrup than a jelly. The food was over priced for what it was. The burger I had was ok, didn't come with cheese and it was over "masonry-sauce"d. The meat itself tasted like a hotdog, and was supposed to come with red onion but it was missing from my burger. When we walked in the host ( young plus sized man with messy hair) was really quiet, seemed like he might be stoned... we asked him about switching cheese on a nacho chip to a fries( due to an allergy) at and he said "absolutely not" in a really condescending rude way. A great date night! They had so many delicious things that we had to share our top best menu items. The service was really awesome and the staff never looked distressed with how busy it was on a Saturday night. The dessert and pasta was amazing, but those Brussels were the best we've had in a long time. Came here for a post COVID lunch and also for a dinner. They have a fair bit of socially distances and well spaced seating both indoor and outdoors. They have a nice fire pit outside by the chairs. From the menu we had their flatbreads, Brussels sprouts, nachos, Asian noodle salad, hummus and vegetables as well as the margarita flight. We finished with tiramisu. Our family went tonight. We have a vegan teen who ordered the portobello mushroom burger with tots and the Brussel sprouts without cheese or bacon. I had the smoked ribs (they were reasonably priced). My son had a plain burger. Wife had a side salad (that she enjoyed and was impressed by) and charcuterie plate. There were technical issues with our order. Our food arrived very late. The electronic device our server used to take our order didn't send the ticket to the kitchen. This probably won't happen to you, but it was unpleasant. The dining area was about a third full. We unfortunately and inaccurately expected this would mean something about the speed with which our meal would come. Bummer. Particularly since our booth had a clear view of the kitchen (a feature of the dining area that didn't work for me as I waited for our apps). We discovered a new gin though. From Albany/Corvallis. (Vivacity). We loved our gin and tonics. The appearance is nice. Warm clear coat wood on the tables and booths. Edison bulbs. Restaurant name "MASONRY" in moss. High ceilings. (Insert often repeated comment about noise levels here). Ugh. Here is the punchline. High end dining appearance with Red Robin sensibilities. By Red Robin sensibilities, I mean the menu is huge (like Applebees) with many reasonably priced items. I overheard two others groups dining saying they love this place. I don't doubt it at all. It's summer time in Oregon in the middle of a pandemic; of course we were looking for a restaurant with outdoor seating. Myself, my partner, my best friend and Godchild looking for food when we stumbled upon Masonry Grill. They had ample outdoor seating (attractive during Covid season) and a spacious and clean dining area. Also, extra bonus points for well decorated/color coordinated and CLEAN restrooms! What we ordered: Spaghetti carbonara Fresh spaghetti with egg yolk in a black pepper sauce. It was delicious! Cannelloni was cheesy and rich! Chicken Parmesan hoagie was on fresh bread and was served with a generous amount of tater tots (choice of side). We also ordered curly fries and beer battered fries as well. Both were crispy and fresh and well seasoned. What stole the show was the crispy calamari! The breading was not overwhelming and there were also onions and lemon slices fried with the calamari. None of us had ever seen fried calamari with fried lemon slices. It was crispy, crunchy, and refreshing! Now, amid Covid, we all try to be as accommodating as possible and the customer service at masonry grill was absolutely superb. Our server was Dylan. He was cheerful but genuine and we truly felt taken care of. In addition, we met Melissa, owner! Seeing the owner help out on the floor really can boost a restaurant's morale. The service is super friendly and the restaurant is very nice inside. Charming light fixtures and exposed brick wall. We ordered from the lunch menu. We shared a Buffalo chicken wrap and monte cristo with side winder fries. It was all just meh. My boy friend got the margarita flight which he said was really good. We may not have ordered something they are known for but the monte cristo was recommended. Would we come back? Probably not. No and Vine down the road is hands down better food and beer choices. The venue is well thought out and the the vibe from the music is very fun. The service is on point and the staff was attentive to our questions and requests(which in its self is a lost art). The food it quick, original, and tasty. Check this place out on a sunny day or rainy day but shouldn't leave you lacking satisfaction unless you generally like to complain about sunshine and puppies, lol. read more

So, I went online for some reason and saw a picture of their deep dish pizza. It looked a lot like a deep dish Chicago pie, and those seem to be pretty hard to come by in Portland. So, we loaded up the car on a Wednesday and braved 5:00 I-5 southbound traffic and drove from Portland to Salem. God only knows how long that took. So, we ordered. Server said that deep dish took longer than regular pizza. No problemo. He came back a few minutes later and said they only did DD pizza Friday and Saturday nights. Drag. Didn't say the policy on menu or on-line. Would have been nice to ask if we wanted something else. Server didn't ask, and it didn't occur to us. Regular pizza came, and it wasn't bad. So, here's my beef. They knew that we came from Portland to have their deep dish they advertised. They could have felt sorry about us making the over an hour trip during I-5 hell and given us a beer or something. I mean, there was no way we could have know about their DD moratorium. We drove 80 miles while paying $5.49/gallon for gas. It was a nice trip with the fam, and we found some $5.19 gas on way home. I'm a whiner I know, but customer service goes a long way with me. I remember forgetting a camera for an event at Beaches in Vancouver, and the server ran across the street and bought a disposable camera for us. We tipped the hell out of her. read more

I enjoy good food and this did not hit the mark. The fettuccine Alfredo was bland and didn't even use Alfredo noodles. I expected the chicken we added to it to be a chicken breast. It was dark meat cut up and mixed it. It didn't even look good. We also ordered an appetizer on happy hour - the loaded fries. They were excellent criss cut fries but they were lacking them in general. I counted 8 fries. Our waitress was not very attentive either. Went for lunch and after one step in Lynette was ready to leave. It was clean and nice but not the feel we wanted. I wanted to give it a go anyway. Although the place is huge and the only customers, I had to get someone's attention to order. Third strike was Lynette wanted the house burger but with the bean replacing the beef patty. They couldn't substitute-I guess beans cost more than cows. Oddly the bean burger was $10 as was the house burger. She just wanted a burger and fries not the sides with the bean offering. So we left. Nice people nice place but have no idea about food quality since we walked out. Not anything special to draw us back to be honest. It's pub food in a warehouse with stiff furniture. Went here with my family when they first opened. Our party consisted of two adults, one senior, and two children. Be aware, if you're looking for the worst service for ridiculous prices, to be ignored, and not eat, masonary grill is your holy grail. This is my first review ever and I've been to some bad restaurants. To start, we weren't greeted when we walked in. Then when we got our table, we asked for hot waters and lemon since its chilly out and they brought us iced waters. When we told our waiter we asked for hot waters he said he didnt hear us and took our drinks. Minutes later a lady who I assume to be the manager came out and told us she had no cups that could hold hot water... what restaurant has no cups that cannot hold hot water??? To make matters worse, 40 minutes pass by with our waiter walking back and forth to not acknowledge us or take our order. We even stacked our menu to let them know we were ready. After waiting an additional ten minutes, we walked out and went to Ritter's down the street and they have the best service. We were extremely happy after we actually got to have some food. Needless to say, after reading other reviews before even posting, we will never go back and have been telling people about our experience here when asked where to go. read more
