Peanut butter cup with banana custard

This is a local favorite with a selection of custard desserts. I enjoy the Arctic Mount with Kit Kat candies, but there are soft serve and hand dipped options, cones, and dishes. New options I saw this visit include gluten-free cones and dairy free, but free, and vegan oat milk ice cream.

Top ice cream critic in the Philly metro made the trek to Carlisle to see what all the hype was about this famous Massey soft serve. After ordering his typical kids size vanilla soft serve he found the closest picnic bench out back to test it on his palette. And the vote is in.... LOVE IT! Five star experience. Must come again.

You better understand that "hand dipped" means they scoop it out of the can. Soft serve is just that, it comes out of the machine. It took me a few tries to understand what she meant when I asked for "hard chocolate" and she asked me if I wanted "hand dipped." Hell no, I dont want "hand dipped." I'm glad we figured it out after a few tries. Anyway, I ended up with the hand dipped chocolate with chocolate sprinkles. (the kiddie size dont judge.) It was creamy and fresh. Pro tip. There are 2 doors on each side. There is a sign on both which no one reads that says "form lines by both doors" No one followed the sign. We walked to the other side and were served right away. So if you see a massive line, just go to the other side and walk in. You're welcome. Anyways, I learned a lot at this visit. Hand dipped is good and so is reading directions. Enjoy folks

A Carlisle treat for locals and tourists alike, Massey's is located right off the main road near the Dickinson tennis courts and their gym. It's tiny (no room to sit inside) but there's lots of seating (no tables) outside. Service is very warm and helpful, and you can try samples. Great prices and service. Lots of options to choose from. Worth a visit if you're in town.

Best ice cream place around. It is always busy but they are efficient and don't need to wait long. The ice cream is yummy. Must go.

Chocolates & other goodies…read more Having the opportunity to spend a week in Carlisle, I do what I tend to do in such circumstances: explore the area to find things I enjoy to make the stay a little bit better. I had driven past this shop twice, and finally had some extra time to get in there while it was open, and I'm glad I did. The shop is very European-ish in appearance; perfectly arranged rows of chocolates of every type. Teas, gelatos, coffees and other goods round out the offerings. I had my mind set on chocolates, and did a little browsing to get an idea of what was what. The young guy working there was in training and was pretty nervous. Rebecca, who had been busy with something else, came to the rescue. She was just wonderful; knew the products inside and out, and explained the different types of chocolates and how they were priced. I was able to make a decent selection of truffles and Rebecca hand wrapped each piece and put them in a box- the presentation was perfect as I had mentioned I would be bringing these for some friends to try. Had a great conversation while she toiled away, and the background music was the perfect accompaniment to the wares. Overall it was a wonderful visit, with fabulous customer service. I only wish it was open later for an after-dinner espresso / gelato. Prices were as expected for gourmet chocolates. Parking on the street Definitely give them a visit if in Carlisle.

When my Friday night post-dinner dessert plans fell apart, Leo's popped up as a backup option -- and what a plot twist that turned out to be. We arrived around 7:15pm on what was easily the nicest Friday evening of the year so far, and the place was PACKED. Line out the door, people everywhere, full-on "this must be good" energy. But here's the impressive part -- the line moved FAST. Before I knew it, I was inside trying to make one of life's hardest decisions: choosing a flavor. Leo's offers a huge variety of homemade ice cream flavors, and you can tell they take pride in having something for everyone. From classic favorites to more creative options -- and even a sugar-free vanilla option -- there's a ton to choose from. I genuinely stood there for a minute just taking it all in. I ultimately went with a kid's dish of S'mores, and WOW...this was easily one of the best S'mores ice creams I've ever had. Super creamy, perfectly balanced, and packed with flavor. The graham cracker, chocolate, and marshmallow all showed up exactly how they should -- no one ingredient overpowering the others. Just smooth, nostalgic, campfire-in-a-bowl perfection. Also, can we talk about value for a second? $3.50 for a kid's dish? In this economy?! Absolutely worth it. One of the biggest surprises, though, was the space itself. There's plenty of on-site parking, and out back is a huge picnic area with tables, chairs, and even a covered patio. It's the kind of setup that makes you want to linger -- not just grab ice cream and go. Total summer evening vibes. And I have to give a quick shoutout to something I deeply appreciate: their hours. Leo keeps it simple -- open every day from 12pm to 9pm. No guessing, no seasonal "are they open today?" confusion, no wonky schedule to keep track of. Just consistent, reliable ice cream access, which I respect immensely. Now that I know Leo's exists, it's officially in my regular rotation. I already have a mental list of flavors I need to go back and try (including that sugar-free vanilla, because now I'm curious), and I can absolutely see myself spending warm evenings out back enjoying more of Leo's frozen goodness. Better late than never, I guess -- but wow, have I been missing out.

They offer lots of great Leo's merch for sale, like sweatshirts and t-shirts. The only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is because the ice cream itself didn't strike us as any better than, say, Five Guys or Dairy Cream. It's not bad, and in a pinch can satisfy a craving, but it didn't stand out to us as exceptional.

Total came out to approximately $6, which included a military discount of 15%. What's Hot - Menu. Pretty great variety! This is the first time I've come across mango sticky rice. They had the standard flavors of chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, etc... but they also had unique flavors, like lemon meringue pie and lychee martini. I also saw pints of jalapeño margarita in their cold freezer with pre-prepared. - Quality. Delish! Their mango sticky rice actually has little bits of sweet sticky rice, which added a nice subtle texture. Their lemon meringue pie had a nice lemon flavor that was slightly tart, but still sweet, and Graham cracker crust swirled in. - Service. You can ask for free samples. - Cost. You pay per scoop and whether you order a cone. I don't remember the cost per scoop, but based on what we ordered, to include the quality and portions of the scoops, I would say it's good value for money. What's Not - Location. It's at the end of a fairly large plaza, so it's easy to miss, depending on where you are in the plaza. - Seating. There are a few tables and chairs. There's also a short counter with a few high chairs. I'm sure there are days that are crowded that make it difficult to find seating, so be prepared for the day and time you go. I've walked and driven past it many times but had somehow never made it inside. Since Denim was also participating in the 2026 Cumberland Valley Coffee & Chocolate Trail, it felt like the perfect excuse to check it out and grab a quick late-afternoon pick-me-up. I walked in around 4pm and found a handful of people inside -- some chatting quietly, others working on laptops. The space was clean, calm, and welcoming, with soft music playing overhead. The woman at the counter was an absolute sunbeam on an otherwise dreary afternoon, greeting me warmly and happily taking my order. I went with an iced coffee with sugar-free vanilla syrup (extra sweet, please!) and oat milk. Total came to $5.25. While she prepared my drink, I took a moment to look around and realized what a great view Denim offers from their bar seating area. Full glass windows with stools looking out over the square in Carlisle make it a fantastic people-watching spot. That afternoon, the Farmers Market was set up across the square, and it was fun watching people dash between stands while dodging raindrops to grab their weekly goodies. It struck me as a perfect place to meet a friend, spend a few hours working on a laptop, or just decompress with a coffee and watch the world go by. Denim also had a small sweet treat case with snacks that would pair nicely with coffee. I stuck with just the drink this time, but everything looked tempting enough that I'd definitely consider adding a pastry next visit. A few minutes later my name was called and my drink was waiting at the end of the counter. One interesting touch: they placed the container of oat milk beside my coffee so I could add exactly as much as I wanted. It's a small detail, but not something you see at many coffee shops, and I appreciated the flexibility. The iced coffee itself was excellent. Unlike some places where iced coffee tastes like watered-down brown liquid, Denim's actually tasted like coffee -- strong, smooth, and delivering a solid caffeine boost. Overall: great service, really good coffee, reasonable prices, and a cozy spot right in the heart of town. The only real challenge is parking since it's so close to the square. Street parking is available nearby, but depending on the time of day you may need to circle a bit. All in all, a great little coffee stop and I'm glad I finally walked through the door.
