Comfortable, spacious room. As a lone, female traveler I felt secure here. The art is beautiful. Enjoyed the wine and cheese in the evening! It's reasonably priced, and they offer discounts often. It's a few blocks away from the Main Street in Morro Bay, which made the hotel nice and quiet in the evening. Friendly, helpful staff. I will definitely stay here again when I'm in the area. The owner also manages La Serena Inn, which is slightly cheaper, but the few extra dollars you spend here is totally worth it, I think, anyway. read more

For me, this place is sacred ground. I wish I could give it 10 stars, so I could up the whiny LA-people's reviews... I drove from Oregon with my dad when he was 86 years young, He was a painter, artist all his life, and studied with whatshisname in 1950, 51... Dad walked 4 miles on the beach, and swam in the ocean----true story, ate a fish at Pagnazin-or-some-cool fish place, and did some kind of angel-worship the four cardinal directions, last time he ever saw the Pacific. I knew it was his last goodbye to the mighty sea, that he had crossed in ww2, and as a medic helped the Hiroshima victims... in some giant warehouse. "Art school saved my life Tommy." he said. See this painting at the end of the hall--- Dad also swam in the jacuzzi downstairs, and told me what "the goddess Temperance" represented. I forget now. As I almost tear up with happy tears, I recall it from Kenny's eye... Artist, Healer, and a good sleep with a lion looking down on a primitive native, on sacred ground. read more

This place is super cute!! Edward the front desk guy was beyond nice, exceptional really. I love the free cheese and wine in the evenings. It was such an adventure walking down the halls and seeing all the different art work. This is not a chain hotel so don't expect perfection and top of the line. It's far above a typical Days Inn or motel 6 but nothing like the Wynn. I think with some updated carpet ,a little paint touch up on corners and the balcony railings redone this place could be perfect. I would absolutely stay here again. Staff was friendly upon arrival, good parking space and clean spacious room with balcony overlooking the famous rock, what more can u ask for? Came for a quick weekend getaway. This place was clean and comfortable. If you're looking for 5 star elegance, this isn't your place, but for being one of the best prices in the area, it was great. My boyfriend and I stopped here along the way during our trek from LA to San Francisco. Ised the app hotels tonight and got a great last minute rate. It was a nice little place. Super clean room that had a separate couch area with a large tv, which could swivel for watching in bed too. Fireplace was awesome as well as a balcony with sliding doors (w/ a screen door too). There was wine and cheese the night we arrived and in the morning we took full advantage of the breakfast. It consisted of two dry cereals, various bread to make toast, some small pastries, instant oatmeal, hard boiled eggs and make your own waffle as well as a large assortment of breakfast beverages. Classy small hotel in a nice area of the central coast. The hotel has complimentary breakfast in the morning, and wine and cheese in the late afternoon. Beautiful paintings and unique art in the room, and a hotel written guide tells you what to do in the area. Room came with an iron, microwave, fridge and coffee maker, with plenty of free teas and cocoa mix. I'd definitely recommend calling the hotel for a price, online it was much pricier. We were greeted by the cutest clerk named Mila. She was so bubbly and friendly, my sister and I just felt instant comfort. I had made a rushed reservation for that night, only to find out that I had made it for the following night by accident. We asked about a room for the night and Mila was so incredibly helpful. $90/night. I was drawn to it due to the photos of the big spa I saw online. It is big for an indoor spa, but it is a lot smaller than what it looks like in the photos. The rooms are clean but rather old and outdated. They provided the basic amenities. However the hallways upstairs are more modern and the art pieces were interesting to look at. January visit, stayed in queen bedroom with fireplace and balcony ;) Arrived as the afternoon wine and cheese was being set out. Super friendly staff checked us in (no reservation, being impulsive) and even offered dinner suggestions. Very nice relaxing room. We had the king room with the spa tub and fireplace very nice room .They have wine and cheese in the evening small breakfast in the morning. If you find your self needing Wi-Fi you may need to find a spot to get it the Wi-Fi here is not very good at all. But if you're here to enjoy the amenities this is a great place to go. Staff is friendly. Oh yeah the fireplace has a 15 minute timer on it that's kinda silly all in all a great stay. read more

A little old and musty. I am giving this place really a 3.7 We got a suite where the bedroom is up on a small stage. The bathroom was quite large. This suite included a large flatscreen TV and a couch. The room was a little spooky actually. The bed and bedding smelled a little musty and the decor was a bit old. At least the silk plant did not have dust on it. The most fun was the fact that we were right outside the dining room. At first I would have thought this would make our mornings very loud but surprisingly, we didn't hear a peep from the dining room and the big plus came every morning when I just strolled out, got a tray of complimentary breakfast and took a quick stroll back and had breakfast in bed! Oh what a putzing dream come true!!! Best of all is how close you are to the waterfront. The spa is a tiny jacuzzi and the gym had about four machines in it. They had washer and dryer on the site which is helpful. read more

I was especially impressed with their excellent customer service. I gave an overnight stay to a friend as a gift and they went out of their way to mail me some cute brochures to give them. No desk or desk chair. The laptop had to go on the coffee table. It was the only table in the room. Very low, and sitting in the sofa or the chair cramped our knees. Very uncomfortable. The room was plenty big enough for a small desk and chair for said desk. 3. Super tiny fridge. Don't expect to really store any left overs in here. 4. No pen, no pad, no envelopes. Could get a pen in the lobby but nothing to write on. They might have come up with something if I asked, but didn't think of it at the time. 5. Overhead fan, tho it seems to have 3 speeds, even the fastest is slow. I wouldn't stay here in the summer. I was grateful there was a small fan in the closet if I needed it, but I did ok. 6. Carpet was stained. Ok, I know some business' are doing well enough to offer something for free, like the free dinners and apps on Vet's day, however in my own business nothing is really free. I have to believe all that cheese and waffle mix and snacks get passed back down to the customer. The wine might be donated by the wineries just to get their brand in the public eye, but in the end we're paying for the rest of it in that $199.99/night or whatever your $$$ rate for your room might be. Overall it was a good experience, but I would only stay here again if I got a great deal, and never in the summer. read more

We stayed here for an anniversary get away. Wonderful! Staff was friendly, sheets soft, pillows confy, and the room spacious! Location was great too cause you can walk from the hotel to the downtown tourist area and all the restaurants and even the beach it you dont mind a bit more walking. I didnt try the breakfast like other yelpers but it looked good. One item of note...not really a complaint, but the water has a soft filter on it...lol you know...so u never feel like ur getting the soap off. Thats just a personal pref thing tho. All and all the stay was fantastic and and if we ever return to Morro Bay we would stay here again! read more

Recently stayed at the Masterpiece Hotel and overall was a good experience ! Our room was spacious and clean and every employee we came across during our stay was nice and welcoming. Can't beat their price compared to the surrounding hotels in Morro Bay. Location is great and pretty much walking distance from everything. They offer free breakfast (waffles, cereal, pastries, mini bagels, eggs) and complimentary wine & cheese from 5-6pm !! Appreciated that since you don't get that quite often. Took off 1 star only because there was no heater in our room..or should I say the heater we had in the main room didn't work. The one in the bathroom worked just fine ! Our visit was in October and it was already chilly during this time so couldn't imagine how much colder it would get in the winter months. Didn't bring up the issue to the front desk cuz we were ready to hit the sack. We wore long sleeves and sweats and it was manageable. I would still stay here again and would definitely recommend this establishment to others when looking for a place to stay in Morro Bay !! read more

He actually made our stay extra nice with all his great recomendations as where to take the kids, where to eat and what to see. So I booked this through Expedia. It was the only place available for this holiday weekend so I took it. I can't remember how much I paid--like 150 a night? So far it's exactly as described by Expedia. Ranked with a two star--it has a nice staff and a very small parking lot for my ginormous truck but the lot is FREE and on the coast. So, yay! I ended up parking on the street and no problem--safe neighborhood and fun walk to everything. My room is bigger than an average king room--lots of walking space and a table and couch, dresser with a wall heater and a sliding glass door that leads out to a mini balcony about the same size as a cruise ship balcony. I can see the rock and you know, it's Morro Bay and so it's beachy and all that. I would stay here again. I'm usually one of those hotel princesses and everything has to be concierge level or I get anxious so in my world that's a huge compliment. I'm giving it a four star because of the nice staff (Charly) and their can-do welcoming attitude. They have a waffle breakfast and a wine and cheese snack time and they didn't balk when I asked for more towels. It was loud sometimes but I brought earplugs--recommended--this is ranked appropriately on Expedia and everything here went off without a hitch. Location, however, is awesome and a five star all the way. So fun. read more

We just stayed at this wonderful hotel 7/23/18 and left today 7/25/18.... This has to be the best hidden gem in the area, we live in Visalia, Ca and drive to the Beach to escape the Valley heat, that and it's only a 2 hour ride, we go to Pismo, Montana De Oro and usually crash in Morro Bay. The stay at the Masterpiece was our first however, but not our last! We stayed in the "El Mirador Penthouse Suite" and it was amazing, I ordered flowers and champagne for my wife as well as cheese and crackers, small touches offered by the Hotel, done right. We enjoyed our own fireplace. We also enjoyed the massive in-room hot tub! We found 2 journals with previous visitors entries and spent a good portion of the start of our stay reading them to each other. We enjoyed all of the paintings in the Hotel and took our time looking at all of them, we even purchased a painting of our own on this visit to the coast, after all the amazing diners we shared we looked forward to getting back to this artwork of a hotel to spend time together. One of our best stays in Morro Bay.... One of our best stays anywhere! We ended our stay with adding a page to the newest journal and left a little pumpkin with it. If you want something sweet, romantic and not at all like anything you have ever stayed... this is the place! read more

The hype led me a bit astray this time, I was expecting much more for over $100 a night and have stayed in nicer hotels in Morro Bay for less. The room was very large but lacked amenities and was a bit on the shabby side particularly the bathroom. I booked the king w/balcony and was disappointed that we were on the first floor right by the front entrance so our tiny "balcony" was essentially in the parking lot with absolutely no privacy. The breakfast and wine service were both very spartan. Avoid the breakfast pastries as they were verging on awful. That said there were definitely a few positives, it's close enough to the downtown shops (a bit of a hike to get to the water though) and the room was once again spacious and clean. read more

1.5 seriously. 4 STARS?!?!? Why??? Is this the first time you've gone to a hotel with out your parents? Legally? Playing 'Husband and Wife?' If so, then I get it, been there, done that. This is my 2nd time here. I am held hostage here because my brother and SIL come here all the time, stay at different places in the area and always fall back on this place. It is brutal. I am always on the freeway side. My room is always stuffy, so I open my window to hear the people who LIVE next to the hotel talk and smoke their filter less Pall Mall cigarettes while revving up their Chevy's with their modified exhaust and cheesy 2 inch body lifted trucks. We have a game that we hit each other on the back when we hear a Harley Davidson drive by on the freeway. OH, and by the way, Tuesday is garbage day and they do ALL of their laundry at 9 at night on Monday's and don't get done with the spin cycle until 11 or so. I hate to admit, but I find a bit of pleasure in their 'Happy Hour', can't hate free alcohol and cheese. They have 'breakfast'. My kids LOVE it, it's like camping but better because it's not cold and they don't get too dirty. Their hard boiled eggs are BRUTAL! Gawd, just GOOGLE 'How to make hard boiled eggs so that I can peel them and the yolk doesn't look like the surface epidermis of a zombie' it's real easy. By the time I peel the egg, I am at the greyish yellow yolk. This is when I get adventurous and try to eat it like this is the last thing on earth realizing that I might experience some side effects. The 'spa' wasn't working either this time. This meant that my kids were super hyper and unfortunately, I didn't pack Benadryl to make them go to sleep. Kidding of course. read more

Ok, went here this past weekend, for a one night get a way, got it through a groupon they are promoting. I booked this three weeks in advance. Well, I chose a King room w/the fireplace. we got in late because we were enjoying our time in town. We checked in and went to our room, it was two queen(really doubles) beds with no fireplace. I called down to the front desk and they said that there was nothing that could be done, take it up with groupon. I did not understand how I could be charged for a king & fireplace room and get the total opposite. Groupon said that the hotel had the right to charge more if they wanted to. I m not even sure how that is legal. But I will never go to this hotel again, because that is just shady. I don't mind paying for what I receive but don't bait and switch and then charge me. Over all, the appearance was not a Masterpiece either and both of our backs hurt when we woke in the morning. read more
