Enjoyed a perfectly cooked rare-medium-rare filet, shared garlic mashed potatoes and mushrooms on the side, along with a gigantic piece of key lime pie. I had the Mastro's Manhattan served in a rocks glass over a big logo cube. If you know Mastro's then you know this drink is a bargain because it is delicious and will last you all night. I have been to the Mastro's in Beverly Hills several times so I had to try the original Mastro's while visiting Scottsdale. They did not disappoint. The service was outstanding. Every employee we encountered was very professional, polite, and welcoming. The table service was fantastic and our server and busser treated us like gold. The restaurant was packed, but the noise level was acceptable and allowed for conversation. The seats were comfortable and the restaurant decor was exquisite. We started with drinks. I ordered an Old Fashioned, which was one of the best I have ever had. My wife ordered the French 77 which she really enjoyed. The food was top notch and well prepared. We had the Shrimp Cocktail for starters. The shrimp was huge and tasted great. I really liked the cocktail sauce and the horseradish was perfect. My wife had the petit filet which was cooked perfectly. The streak itself was a fine cut of meat and literally melted in your mouth. I had the bone-in dry aged ribeye. Being dry aged, the taste was a very good, but a bit different. However, I really enjoyed the unique flavor. The steaks come out on plates that were 400°. I swear I saw my steak continue to cook as I was eating it. We also had the creamed spinach which we both enjoyed immensely. To finish it off we had the Key Lime Pie. Whoever makes their keylime pie knows exactly how to do it right. It was as good as the best we have had in the Florida Keys. It pains me to make this review because Mastro's has always been a consistent staple.. This visit has since changed my view on this establishment when it comes to potential food safety and precautions. For the price we pay, we expect high quality and expectations.. My wife and I went for our first wedding anniversary after being together for over a decade. I wanted to treat her to a stellar dinner. Here are some key things I want to discuss: The service was immaculate and there usually is never an issue with it. The gentleman assisting us was always attentive, on-top, and courteous. The food was just "okay" and it pains me to say that. We both had steak (I had the NY strip with the bone marrow butter). My steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned well, but the butter was least to be desired and did not add the enhancements I expected. My wife ordered the petite filet mignon and had the truffle butter enhancement. Her steak was also cooked perfectly, but we are still trying to figure out what could've potentially made her sick. Atleast the steaks were delicious.. Mind you, this was our ONLY meal that day. We had 3 sides: Broccolini(lacked seasoning and flavor), the White Cheddar Mac and Cheese which was not surprising in flavor, and the Garlic Mashed Potatoes which had the best flavor of the 3! For dessert, the butter cake and our "complimentary" dessert were provided. The butter cake was good, but a fruit fly landed on it and we couldn't finish it. The manager did advise that they could make a new one, however we were very full at this time and politely declined. As for our drinks, I had the Fire and Mango and the wife had Ubee drink. The drinks were great and no complaints there.. What I'm trying to decipher is why the sides were mediocre and what caused my wife to get sick. It's hard to find service like this these days. Came here to celebrate my husband's 45th birthday. He's been wanting to eat here for some time and we never had the chance to so this was a big birthday surprise for him. Not only the detail of printing his name on the menu but also making sure they acknowledge him throughout the evening. I was shocked by how many people stopped by our table to say happy birthday. It just made his night! Thank you so much! We have no family and are new to the city so this just was such a wonderful treat for us. Jorge and Derrick are a class act. Bravo to these two gentlemen. The restaurant was absolutely packed, seeing that the Waste Management Golf Tournament is in town and I'm sure it was overwhelming. But even though the floor was buzzing with excitement and energy, they were both always checking in and filling glasses and emptying our table. We genuinely were impressed and delighted. The food was delicious!!! Thank you chef!!! My husband ordered the 20oz steak, completely buttery soft. Our daughter ordered the grilled salmon and I ordered the broiled Sea bass. Delicious!!! Both super soft and amazing crust on top. We finished our meal with a gigantic slice of chocolate cake from the staff. Thank you!!! The facility is sexy and beautiful but..the food the proteins are just not the same. Granted, we were part of a large party last night..but the food was not good. " Sorry but for quality control we're cooking everything to medium" is complete garbage especially considering the prices paid by our organization. Seafood towers with bad oysters topping most tables towers. Skewer meat appetizers that were not seared served moist and mealie Steaks not cooked to order but mass produced and served at the same time all at the same doneness as complete bush league Caesar salad salads served without being dressed The cornerstone butter cake served burnt and not edible Did I mention the wait staff was fantastic and the facilities is beautiful We promptly canceled our next week plans to go to Mastro City Hall. For apps we had asparagus tempura, shrimp cocktail, seared chicken and a salad starter. The shrimp cocktail was jumbo and delicious. The presentation was amazing as well! The appetizers were all amazing. The 8oz filet was served medium rare as requested and no gristle or chewy spots to be found. It was so tender and seasoned great. The sides were all tasty as well including the bread. The service at our table from Jared was phenomenal! I'll come back here for the food and his service! The lemon drop martini comes crispy cold with a yellow sugar rim and with dry ice so the presentation is show worthy. The gigantic shrimp appetizer has dry ice as well and the shrimp sauce is divine. It comes with 4 giant shrimp that taste superb. For dinner I took Tobias' advice and had the big eye tuna and wow! Seared perfectly with a nice slaw and a very generous portion that I could not make it through. We had a side of the white cheddar Mac and cheese and it is worth every single calorie. Oh dear my review was somehow removed from this site. I wonder why? My description of a disastrous evening Perhaps? Let test and see if this one remains. Do not order the lobster! Mine arrived as a charred mess dropping shards of burned shell everywhere. Have we not learned that lobster needs moisture when cooked? This had been left under the broiler for most of its life! My melted butter arrived on the plate and soon became cold and covered in burned shell. I was told a replacement would take 20/ 30 minutes...,. What? My husband had already eaten half of his mediocre lacking in flavor aged steak. I declined as the potatoes a mushed over baked (scalloped?) mess were already cold. My key lime pie was served on a plate straight from the dishwasher and hot enough to melt the chocolate Happy Birthday sign. Full transparency we did not pay for the lobster. A truly awful experience. We will not be returning. read more

I hate to leave a bad review (if you look at my other reviews you will plainly see this!), but given how crowded Mastros is and how many good reviews they have on Yelp I want to give people at least the chance to avoid the experience that I had. It's very rare for a place with good Yelp reviews to hold up so poorly. I can understand an occasional a mediocre meal or an overpriced meal, but when you drop around $200 per person you have a certain expectation and Mastros just did not come even come close. There were some good things about Mastros:   The french fries were excellent. The seared tuna appetizer was pretty good. There was live music that was pretty good.   Atmosphere:   Most of the tables are high tops with uncomfortable chairs. This is fine at a bar, or a cheap counter service place, but a problem I'm not used to dealing with in nicer places. The place was loud and dark and crowded. Now, I understand that some people like loud and dark and crowded, so that's not a deal-breaker, and if that's your thing then you can discount that part. The service was OK. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't what you would expect at this price point. In fairness to the servers given how loud and dark and crowded it was I can understand that they couldn't maneuver or see or hear well enough to give good service.   The food:   The truly inexcusable part of the evening was the food. It was downright bad. A key theme for the evening was "overdone". The brussel sprouts were black and crunchy briquettes covered in something truly inedible. I don't know if the mashed potatoes were instant or what, but they were liquified to the point they could have been drunk through a straw. The sea bass was oddly gelatinous (I'm not sure how they achieved that effect). It would be charitable to call my "medium rare" steak well done. Extremely well done and then left on the grill for an extra ten minutes and then run over with a blow torch. I know some people like a big "char" on their steak, but that's not my thing, and this was ridiculous.   I would be tempted to think that I ticked off the servers somehow, but I barely spoke to them! Given all the five-star reviews here I don't know what to think, because it really seemed like the food and the experience was what they intended. I don't know if the taste of their customers run completely contrary to mine and they love burnt food served in an dark uncomfortable roaring crowd or if I somehow hit them on a terrible night. read more

We were really looking forward to our evening, but unfortunately the experience didn't quite live up to expectations. Service was... leisurely, even by "relax and enjoy your night" standards. It took quite a while to be greeted, and things never really picked up pace from there. As for the food, we somehow managed to hit both ends of the cooking spectrum--one dish undercooked, the other overcooked. To their credit, both were removed from the bill, which we appreciated. That said, it would have been nice if a floor manager had checked in at any point beyond quietly assisting with clearing plates. They seemed more focused on bussing than managing the dining experience. The most surprising moment came at the end: a 20% gratuity was already included (which is perfectly fine), but the presentation of the check still suggested adding more. At that point, we weren't sure if we were being prompted for generosity or participating in a tipping pop quiz. All in all, there were some bright spots, but the overall experience felt a bit out of sync--especially for a restaurant of this reputation. Hoping this was just an off night. read more

Update.... Took advantage of manager Mike's offer and returned on Dec. 6 to Mastro's. We were seated in a much quieter room more conducive to conversation . We started off with the holiday drink which was delightful. Next was the Rec Hill wine. As usual the wine list did not disappoint. Our Appetizer of carpaccio was great and were the scallops. The service from our waiter was excellent. The entree of rack of lamb was shared and cooked spot on medium rare as ordered. My friend said her pork chop was tender and the best one she has ever had. Vegetables of creamed corn and asparagus were very good. It was a birthday celebration so we were given complimentary cheesecake which was very creamy . The butter cake was amazing. Another had the very different pecan pie was different. All in all a superb dinner. Glad we gave it a second chance. Thank you , Mike. read more

I come from a family where we have been cooking steaks for generations as my grandpa started a meat market in the 1950's. If there's anyone who knows about steak, eating it, cooking it, preparing it, it's me. I've tried thousands of steaks and steakhouses over the years and with all honesty this is my favorite meal and steakhouse of all time! We always start off with the shrimp cocktail which has the biggest and freshest shrimp and delicious cocktail sauce and horseradish. I always get the New York Strip - and the flavor this thing has is unreal. It's always cooked to my perfection (medium-rare), juicy and melts in my mouth. While we've enjoyed dining at Mastro's many times previously, we dined at their bar area this past Wednesday for the first time. It's a very nice upscale setting. While we enjoyed their bread service and well crafted cocktails, their wedge salads were quite good, as were their crab cakes and lobster cocktail. Special shout out to our server Maddie. This restaurant, service, atmosphere and food is outstanding. From the moment you drive up to the restaurant until you leave, your experience is percent perfect. The Valet starts you off by being pleasant, with a great sense of humor. The hostesses are sweet, the servers are top notch and the food is beyond great!!! Anyone that does not give this restaurant a perfect score does not know great food and service. We live in Wickenburg and drive to Scottsdale for great food and culture.
