I love Matachines. Although I don't visit too often it's one of my favs and never disappoints. I do wish they were open later though. I love that the chips are made fresh so when you get them they're still warm. I usually get tacos but the last time I went I tried the pasole verde as I had heard really good things about it. They were right, it was delicious!! I was so full but I couldn't stop eating it! Haha I also enjoyed myself a Mexican Coke as that's the only type I'll drink when it comes to coke. I've also always loved the authentic dining plates and the decor. I definitely recommend trying it out and keeping this small local restaurant in business. We had a great first visit. Our server was lovely and took good care of us. There are complimentary chips, salsa, and queso. The salsa was excellent. For the queso, it tasted like cheap nacho cheese, so I probably wouldn't eat it again. My beef enchilada with red sauce was delicious. The ground beef was chunks of sirloin, and it had a nice charred to it. Good rice and beans, but the rice was soggy. Overall still one of the best Mexican food I had recently. read more

First time here Working nearby. Craving Mexican food & was greeted quickly with a smile from the staff. I saw they had beer and margaritas.... Maybe next time!!! I decided whatever the server thought was best... She mentioned green enchiladas... I did chicken and it came out lightning fast and piping hot. THE Chips and salsa...so delicious & came out fast. The entire experience was great. My two items after taxes was in the $18 range.. but I didn't leave hungry. I destroyed all the decadent foods. Matachines has remained one of my favorite places in Edmond to grab tacos (or my latest Mexican craving) since 2017. My love for the folks and food at Matachines has only grown since they established this little spot in 2017. I love supporting this local Latinx LGBTQ+ owned business. Their tacos are perfect. They don't compromise on flavor or authenticity. Don't skip adding a pinch of lime and a little bit of salsa to each bite, this takes them to next level. I usually get 3 street tacos, whatever meats I'm feeling as they are all really tasty. Other menu items I love: --tortas (a Mexican sandwich with everything except the kitchen sink) --sopes --tamales (get both & eat together for deliciously cheesey bites) They can be hard to spot when driving by. They are located in the little strip mall with Aspen Coffee at 15th at Fretz. They share a parking lot with the Dental Depot. We have visited this restaurant many times. The one thing that I loved right from the beginning was their made in house fresh flour chips & their amazing salsa!!! Endless. The best!!!! Then recently I tried their green chili posole.... And let me just tell you how amazingly delicious it is!!! Wow!!! I always get the large b/c who doesn't live leftovers!? It's that good! I get two delicious meals out of it!!! It's made with chicken not pork. The only thing that could make it better is if they had cabbage to go with it! My husband usually gets street tacos which he says are very gf! The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is due to the slowness of the wait staff. When there is only two tables with customers you shouldn't have to walk up to the counter for refills etc. But the food is worth going back for over & over & over again! We just moved to the area so we've been exploring new restaurants, starting off with this one. I was a little surprised that we were the only ones there but I'm not complaining! The interior is very unique and pretty and the ambiance was nice. The reason I'm giving this a 3.5/5 stars is because the prices are pretty steep. $13-14 for a taco plate is crazy to me (3 tacos, rice and beans).. maybe I'm just used to the prices in Texas which were always around $9. So as much as I wanted some street tacos, I opted for the chicken flautas plate. If you order two "platters" which consists of a list with about 10 different plates, the chips and salsa are free of charge. So we did just that. Chips and salsa were great! We had mixed emotions at first but it quickly grew on it and now my husband is obsessed lol. Sweet tea as well. It's not overly sweet, tasted like real tea instead of straight up sugar. Below are the ratings for everything we ate! Beef enchiladas plate: 9/10 beef was seasoned well! We've eaten lunch here several times and are slowly working through the menu. So exciting to see dishes like Posole, Chicken Mole and Sopes on the menu! Everything is delicious from the thicker authentic chips with salsa like no other, homemade chunky guacamole to drinks like Horchata. When 3 Tequilas was closed for remodeling, we were in a scramble to find some Mexican lunch and saw this was near. It's hidden in a shopping center but well marked with signage. There was some traffic on the road leading into the shopping center and leaving which was tough - I'm not around Edmond much so this probably is typical lol we got some complimentary chips and queso. Crispy chips, okay cheese and salsa. Didn't realize guacamole was extra, since the server asked if we wanted some, but we should never assume! Ordered a chimichanga plate - was mostly the tortilla/breading and really light filling. The beans was good. But the rice was watery for some reason and just not flavorful at all. My husband ordered eggs and chorizo and it wasn't as flavorful as he hoped. As a Mexican, he did not enjoy his plate at all. It was passable for lunch but that's about it. Holy moly yummy and authentic! I follow a local food page on Facebook and noticed this place always advertising. They advertised $3.99 margaritas so of course i was intrigued! Located in Edmond off 15th and super easy to get to! It's just right before the railroad tracks in a shopping center area. We were immediately greeted and chose whatever seat we wished. We didn't have a wait at 6 on a Friday evening. I figured they would only have two options of so from margarita but they had so many everything from strawberry to mango to original! I opted for the mango on the rocks and it was superb! I would've easily had a second if i wasn't juggling my kids. I even loved they served the margaritas in plastic cactus glasses. My husband and i both ordered the 3 taco plate. These are street tacos and on the smaller side. Anywhere else Tex mex the tacos are larger and I'd never finish three but easily could here. They were perfectly seasoned as well! They also came with a side of rice. My son got the kids meal chicken quesadilla and it was very generous portion! He couldn't finish the entire thing. I have only gotten carry out tacos here before, but we decided to come in and stay for dinner. I'm so glad we did. Their fresh chips and salsa are easily the best in Edmond. I had pozole and my wife had a torta. Both were great, but the pozole was next level. I will come get it anytime it's cold or I'm under the weather. After reading so many glowing reviews I was surprised by the lack of flavor and seasoning in their meats. Our first visit was on discount enchilada Tuesday, but both the red and green were done too simply and lacked flavor. Salsas taste processed. I've had nearly every taco here, all but their lengua. Tacos are filled with a lot of meat, but nothing stands out. Some are downright bland. Where are the authentic Mexican flavors, marinades and seasonings?? I will break them down... Their fajita tacos are a type not found elsewhere -- overflowing with fillings, pretty tasty, the only tacos worth getting here imo. Fajita de res -- steak is cut into odd long strings, lacks juiciness, but taco still pretty good. Pollo (chicken) are strips of plain breast meat, not marinated nor seasoned significantly, but meat is tender. Skip the pollo taco, but it's better in the 'fajita de pollo' taco (even better with only the grilled onions). Carnitas are fried extra crispy and stringy, flavor decent but the meat literally crunches. I prefer more tender pork. Al pastor marinade was much too mild, but okay with added grilled onions (ask for them) and salsa verde. The rest you can skip altogether... Asada and Barbacoa -- barbacoa slightly more tender and juicy, but both underseasoned and taste unimpressive. Molida (ground beef) -- dry, cheap, too bland. Buche -- or pig stomach, the worst of the bunch. It may sound odd but it can be good when stewed until tender. Here it's not being cooked right, too chewy like rubber, I nearly choked on it. Tip: be sure to ask for grilled onions on the side. Their dining room is simple but very clean with plenty of pleasant enough folks on counter service. But they refused seating us 20 minutes before closing even with food already prepared since I had called in ahead. I want to like this place, since all but the lengua tacos are 5 for $5.99 on Thursdays (recently raised from $1 each). But they have stiff competition from a couple of superior nearby taquerias who aren't afraid of seasoning. read more

I have to drive a distance to eat there but I have enjoyed making that happen. My wife shares my enthusiasm after I shared my new secret place. Should be easier to go more often now. Chips and Salsa The chips carry more fresh crunch than a recently harvested bell pepper. I am talking the chips are obviously homemade and wow did they transfuse me with crunchy power. Yeah I am crunchy now and I dig it! The salsa is a concoction that will make you a smarter individual by eating it. Scientifically speaking, (Yes, Yelp is where you should always come for scientific findings) each serving of salsa actually raises your IQ by 0.000135% of a point. Yes, it feels like a small amount per serving, but do you know how much intelligence peppers cost? Be glad you are getting this much and just order chips and salsa already! Street Tacos I have had five different tacos and as such I feel the only appropriate way to do this section is via an ultra popular top five list. 5. Al Pastor (Pineapple style Pork) - Okay this one being at the bottom of the list is totally on me. I historically don't love pineapple so much but I ordered this anyway. So yeah this is on me not them. If you like pineapple then order this. 4. Lingua(Tongue) - Solid taco, do not fret about ordering tongue, no one will bad mouth you for ordering this.... 3. Asada(Beef) - I mean these won't knock you on your Asada, but you won't be left asking where's the beef? 2. Carnitas(Pork) - I don't have anything snappy to say here, just order one of these unless you roll kosher...then don't order it. 1. Barbacoa (Beef) - This to me is by far the best street taco at Matachines. It is beef-tastic with all the flavors you would expect and crave on a mid march Saturday....We've all been there. We recently used door dash to order from this restaurant. We've eaten there before but I can tell you this last meal that we received was not what we remembered. The salsa also tasted very different and it was too spicy for anyone to eat. The nacho cheese was cold and from a can & no one wanted to touch it either. The flautas had chicken inside that was extremely dry & un-flavorful. They forgot to make one of the burritos for our meal which ended us being short a meal for someone's dinner. The chips were incredibly salty. I ordered avocado slices for two dollars as a part of my vegetarian child's dinner... it was six slices of avocado and it was so paper thin altogether it might have equaled .25 inch. So sad... but for $50 I don't think we will be back.! So I deducted a store for taste and another star for order accuracy. *As a sidenote door dash did credit me the cost of the meal that was not delivered in our order. Technically are door dash or should have caught the error. However they do not re-deliver missed items or erroneous orders as their policy is only to issue a refund in credits to your door dash account. This trip, I wasn't feeling adventurous, so I ordered that day's special, which was three enchiladas with rice and beans. So... amazing. They aren't that big, or they don't LOOK that big, but you can easily get full on just this dish alone. With the chips and salsa you get with the meal, though, you're easily satisfied. Speaking of which, those chips... they are definitely made in house and pretty shortly before you sit down. They come to the table hot with a very chilly (but tasty) salsa. Everything about them screams "made with love." They are thick, but not too greasy; extremely crunchy, and mildly salted. I could go on about this place. And they had tamales this time, so I ordered two red pork also. The salsa was totally different this time. Instead of a dark, roasted brown, this was a pale orange. It had substantially more vinegar and heat, but not the smoky pepper flavor that made me drink the last drops on my first visit. The tamales, however, were darned good. The corn husks and wax paper kept them warm on my 15-minute drive home. They weren't filled consistently through, but the masa was great; not the mealy kind you sometimes find. Blown away! This is hands down the best authentic Mexican restaurant I have encountered in OK. Ordered via door dash and it was stellar. The guacamole is the best I have ever had. So fresh and perfectly ripe with lime juice. Homemade chips are thick but not hard at all. They really compliment the salsa and guacamole so well. The street tacos were fabulous. I was so over the moon with their cafecito! It tasted just like my auntie & my grandma make it, felt at home for sure! The food is great and it's a great value. We always have the same few waitresses and they are always kind. It is locally owned and they can whip up a great cocktail. It has become one of our favorite restaurants and we eat here half of the times we decide to eat out, which is not frequent. Definitely recommend giving this place a try. Finally found real Tex Mex in OKLAHOMA. Here's my take: Arrived at 1030 on a rainy Sunday. I was definitely feeling a bit homesick. (For food) Hubs ordered the chips and salsa $3.50 or so, which I have never paid for those before, but... they were great. Fresh fried chips served super hot with brown salsa. It's what I'm used to having in San Antonio. Great fresh taste and a strong slow burn. Comes with 1 refill. I ordered huevos mexicana served with beans and sliced avocado. Hubs had the chorizo eggs plate also with beans Sonny boy had green enchiladas with chicken. Everything was very good and tasted like food from home in Texas. Not at all what we usually get around here. Thank goodness The cleanliness was good and the staff friendly and attentive without any annoyance. We may have found our new place. I've been ordering Matachines through Postmates because they were having a free delivery offer and wowzer, it's delicious!!!! I've been trying their combination and beef fajitas and chips and dips. I love their chips! It's so unique and not like the chips at other Tex-mex places. Their best kept secret is their flour fajitas. It's soft and it's so SO perfect. You have to try them to know what I'm talking about. They give you spicy salsa and salsa verde with the food orders. Add them to your meal and they bring out all the flavors.
