I've been here a few times now (both Buford Hwy and Duluth locations) and I can't recommend this place enough. If you love matcha, then this is definitely the dessert place for you. The matcha flavor is so authentic - sweet but also a little pleasant bitterness, like how I'd expect a sweet leaf to taste like LOL. I got the matcha + sakura cherry blossom (limited edition) swirl soft serve last time I came here in March and I almost went back for seconds right after I finished it. The slightly bitter matcha blended so well with the sweet cherry blossom flavor. I'm so sad it was only available for a limited time because it's definitely one of my all-time favorite flavor combinations now. They seem to have new seasonal flavors all the time so I'll definitely keep going to try out all the new combinations. The soft serve is also incredibly smooth and creamy. It's definitely worth the price ($4-5). Not to mention, the interior of the cafe has a cute Japanese cafe + light wood aesthetic. **The parking lot is a little rough so you may have find parking elsewhere. read more

okay the matcha here is so good, i'll give them that. every time i have came, i absolutely love the matcha. on the other hand, the customer service is absolutely horrible. i never got the asshole's name, but the asian guy working the front is so rude, and for what? its always whenever i see him, he is just condescending and rude. previously i came a few weeks ago and asked for a blueberry matcha, simple. he then tells me its discontinued. i came an hour ago and asked if its available, since i saw it on the menu. he then goes "well its on the menu" in a very rude and condescending tone, then points at it on the menu. my girlfriend then asks for a brown sugar match and he goes "number 11??" okay well its YOUR MENU, why are you asking me?? he then asks if whole milk is okay. she says its okay, but i wanted to make sure since she is a bit lactose. i said "whole milk, you sure?" he then goes "no i said whole milk not oat." again, in a such a rude and condescending tone?? would give one star but 2 for the actual matcha. read more

After months of stalking their instagram, the return of their Thai Iced Tea ice cream meant it was time to finally try them out. I got the Thai Iced Latte "float" with the Thai Iced tea ice cream on top and added crystal boba. The flavor of the latte was so delicious- the perfect balance of sweetness and spice. The ice cream itself was super creamy and could have easily been a snack on its own. While I am a huge boba fan, I did not love the texture of the crystal boba- they were a little bit more chewy than normal tapioca boba. The only down side of the latte was that as the ice cream melted, it stuck onto the ice in the cup- it made me sad not to be able to eat all the ice cream! This location is right off Buford Highway and is easy to find, but beware that the parking lot is a very very very small. This is an adorable little Japanese soft serve place! The indoor seating area is pretty sparse, but usually enough for a quick bite. They only have a few flavors that they specialize in which are green tea, ube and vanilla and they also have a fridge where you can buy ice cream pints to take home. Unlike other places they don't skimp out on the matcha powder, I try matcha drinks at other places and they fall short compared to Matcha Maiko. As much as I like Matcha, I honestly wasn't that big of a fan of Matcha Cafe because I feel as though the flavor is too strong and overwhelming. However, if you really like matcha, this is the place for you! I think the soft serve represents the matcha flavor very well. But I personally think the flavor is very strong and you can also taste the bitterness. It's hard for me to finish the soft serve on my own. However, what I do love is that they run limited time specials every once in awhile. There was a beignet special with Cafe du Monde coffee soft serve recently, and just the past few weeks they had a Thai tea special that I absolutely loved. You can get the flavors in a soft serve cone or cup, and you could also get them in floats. I like that although this is a Matcha cafe, they still try to have other options regularly, and somehow still make those flavors very well. My complaints however, are the prices and parking. Every menu item here is pretty pricey especially for a dessert that you'll probably finish fairly quickly. The soft serve alone is about $5.50 I think, and if you want to get the floats, it comes out close to $8. The portion sizes aren't exactly bigger than your average dessert places either. I think maybe because its a specialty dessert place, they have the ability to charge high prices and get away with it. But for me personally, not something I'd pay frequently. They have fun ways to eat the ice cream (e.g. on top of shaved ice, or in tea, etc.) Good amount of seating but very limited parking in the storefront. Having been to the San Francisco location many times, I know this franchise in general offers plentiful flavors, which I personally enjoy exploring at every subsequent visits. I came for the soft opening and it was packed, right at 4:30 and the line was out the door! There's plenty of seating however not a lot of parking out front (no worries park in the surrounding lots)! As you walk up to the door the smell of the waffle cones being made hits you. Omg the matcha soft serve is great!!! This cafe is for the matcha lovers! The menu is extensive with so many different items of matcha from drinks, floats, soft serve, cookies. The quality of the matcha is great, but those are are not a huge fan might find it overpowering. The cafe is a pretty decent size, but parking here is disastrous. I suggest parking at a bigger shopping center a walking because your chances of actually parking right at this cafe is really slim. I can see how Hawaiian-based Matcha Cafe Maiko has already developed a loyal following even though it's only been opened for a brief while. It's delightful! Like Taco Bell, the menu offers a lot of different options that are kind of similar. I knew I wanted some matcha soft serve but was still stuffed from lunch so I requested the matcha float with matcha soft serve (medium $5.50, large $6.10). The guy at the counter was really helpful and even gave us a few samples to try upon request. We didn't have to wait long for our treats. I was thrilled with the punchy strong matcha taste in the soft serve, and the tea wasn't too sweet. Yay. Perfect for a sweltering summer day. The dining area has shoji screens and light-colored wood for that Japanese vibe. I read other reviews regarding the parking situation, and it's tough with the microscopic lot in front. Maybe you could park in the neighboring TitleBucks's spaces as a backup. Definitely digging Matcha Cafe Maiko. I was here twice, and I like this place! It's very nicely decorated, cozy, very Japanese, which is fantastic. The staff are super nice, and helpful. We got soft serve, and the Maiko special. I loved them both, the portion is definitely good, and the matcha is hands down the best I had in Atlanta. Very matchay, not super sweet which is really nice. The A/C wasn't working when we went last Friday (the same week of the grand opening, I believe?) but in spite of the warmth, we ordered smugly having secured a parking spot right in front of the door. I wish the menu had descriptions of what each item is, because in the age of staring at our phones, to ensure I wasn't order stuff that I wouldn't like, I had to ask for numerous explanations. At the time of doing that, I was the only one in line, so I thankfully didn't incur side-eye from waiting patrons. Anyway, my two guys and I put in our order for a mixed soft-serve cone, matcha kuromitsu kinako, and a hojicha latte (both drinks were iced). Little AT and I chowed down on the swirl of matcha and vanilla soft-serve in a large cone, which had awesome flavors, with the vanilla complementing the strong taste of the matcha ice cream. Additionally, the texture was spot-on (infinitely better than the matcha soft-serve place in Midtown that many have raved about). My matcha kuromitsu kinako had black honey and was very good. My gripe is that the medium size is probably around 12 ounces, which may be the norm in the Japanese culture but let's be real, we're in America and most places grant an additional 4 ounces and at almost $5, it's just kinda steep. I got big AT the hojicha latte and he barely had a quarter of it, so having a higher volume would've been moot in his case. He's not a fan of either matcha or hojicha. I'd actually love to see some black sesame items on the menu here, even though I personally don't love it. While parking is a pain in the arse, the bill isn't cheap, and the space is kinda small, I'll definitely be back for more. I'm just over-the-moon about a matcha cafe near home! read more

Matcha Cafe Maiko is definitely known for their matcha soft serve, but I tried out one of their seasonal flavors, White Rabbit, while I was here. It was sooo creamy and delicious. I loved that the cone that it was served in was light and not overly sweet. I also grabbed a couple pints of Ube ice cream while here- always a treat. Parking can be a bit tight here, but people are normally in and out of here pretty quickly. Looking forward to trying more flavors here soon! read more

They both seemed to love their items! I wish I could give this place 3.5 stars instead of just 3. -1 star for the parking situation they have or they lack there of. Parking is S U P E S limited, maybe 4 or 5 parking spaces at most? You could park in the plaza behind it (tea house Formosa parking lot), but beware.. there's a grandma there that'll shoo you away if you're not about to eat at her restaurant. She stands her guard for those parking spots. -.5 star because, although the place itself is pretty big, it will not accommodate a big crowd, they have maybe 7-8 small tables? 2 tables that'll for sure fit 4 people, the rest are smaller and they also have some bench stools. So I recently went to Hawaii for vacation and I remembered having some bomb ass matcha dessert there. Till this day, I'm still craving for it. Come to find out, there is a new matcha joint on Bufordhwy in Atlanta and guess what? It's the same matcha spot that I went to in Hawaii ahhhh #mindblown Too all of my atlantafoodies come and try it out!! On a side note: the matcha essence isn't has robust as a remembered in Hawaii. It is slightly more diluted (but just by a hair). It's not a "pow in your face" kind of matcha explosion but just strong enough to taste it.
