Please don't get caught by the old Korean people that owns one of the shop. They were so mean to my family and threat to call the cops on us if we parked at the plaza. The two females that work in the front is super nice. The place is super chill with lots of options. I always get the Maiko special with your choice of ice cream(it's seasonal). The place looked small from the outside but super spacious once you get inside. We sat all the way in the back, covered by a traditional curtain. The dessert menu is limited to tea, floats, and ice cream with only a few modifications offered. They are slowly expanding their menu and are now offering takoyashi as a savory treat. Finally able to try this lil cute joint that offer matcha selections of frappe, shaved ice, latte and so on. Coming inside brought back the memory of visiting "the very best matcha joint every foodie must visit in Japan: Suzukien in Asakusa" We got the shaved ice mixed (matcha and vanilla) and the soft serve matcha. The shaved ice is really good, just right amount of sweetness and it comes with the red beans. We love it so much, but hopefully it'll come to the owner's attention to the serving container. This has been on my list of places to try for awhile and I gave it a try for Yelp's First Try Friday and it was fantastic! The inside of the cafe was beautiful. It was like stepping into a different country. Since it was my first time there I had NO idea what to order. The lady working at the counter was exceptionally nice. I've seen this place popping up on a few of the sites that I follow and wanted to check it out. I went after having dinner and I wanted something light and sweet. I ordered the matcha/vanilla soft serve with the waffle cone. The matcha flavor was good and I really appreciated the slight dusting of matcha powder over the ice cream. I think what I really liked about this was that it hit the right amount sweetness. Just really balanced and what I needed. Service was quick and friendly. Awesome. I get no words to describe how excited I am for this place. The service is spot on for soft opening. I hope they can keep up the speed when ground open. My friend and I have special and matcha latte. The matcha ice cream is great. Not too sweet and full of matcha flavor. I like the special parfait. The matcha ice cream here is great, as well as their other desserts. However, do not come here if you want a good matcha latte. I ordered a regular matcha latte with oat milk, and with my first sip, I realized the drink had a grainy texture. I could feel the powder in my mouth so much so that I would cough when I swallowed it. I asked the barista to remake it, and she asked if I had mixed it well enough. I told her it wasn't a mixing issue as the powder had not dissolved as it should have during the whisking process. I quickly realized that they did not whisk the matcha powder with hot water for each drink. They kept a gallon pitcher of premixed matcha water. She proceeded to use a strainer to strain my drink into a new cup. This obviously did not help to dissolve the powder. My drink is still powdery and grainy.... The parking in the process however... the parking lot is very small and cramped so you would have to park in the other building. The cafe is quite small and cramped, but people come and go quickly. I decided to check out Atlanta for a similar place and to my delight, Matcha Cafe Maiko popped up. So glad I found it! Matcha Cafe Maiko is a franchise with many different locations. Originating of course in Japan, Cafe Maiko has made it to Atlanta along Buford Highway. It's close to many wonderful restaurants making this a popular dessert destination. Unfortunately, if you're not looking for it, you can easily miss it. While it faces the highway, it's tucked between other not so pleasant looking shops: some of them closed down, others you can find yourself a lawyer and others just sell misc goods. Anyways, find this place and you'll be rewarded with delicious treats. I love how they had renovated this location. It's simple and modern on the inside keeping a very clean "cute" look. The menu of course revolves around green tea so if you don't like green tea... well go try mango mango down the street. My go to is the green tea soft serve which I have swirled with vanilla. They pepper on some green tea dusting on top which I have to say really packs a punch and makes it shine! You can add all sorts of other fixings as well but I choose to take my simple. If you're up for a drink/milkshake/other delicious green tea concoctions well you're in luck because their menu doesn't just end at soft serve! Parking is pain. While there is parking in front, you're more likely to find parking in the back and just walk to their store front. Remember to sign up for their rewards points especially if you think you'll be a frequent flyer because you'll get free ice cream. Who wouldn't want that? We ordered greentea and hojicha frappes. Both of them were great! We had green tea ice cream from momo cafe and i think the taste was similar to that in terms of bitterness and sweetness. Also, the price was around 6 when we ordered large frappe. I think it was good overall and hojicha tasted better for me. Hojicha has less bitterness and more sweetness to it. Also, it is brown color as you can see from the picture and taste like a brewed tea. So i do recommend frappe from this place if you like the matcha and tea flavor with a bit of sweetness to it. What a little gem in Buford Highway. Don't go too fast or you might miss it. Don't look for a huge strip mall, look for a tiny one and it's the last one with maybe four parking spaces. The cashier was extremely knowledgeable and friendly as she assisted with my first time visit. The little café was clean with ample seating. I love matcha items so I wasn't scared at the fact that this place is truly authentic and they don't cater their recipe towards the All-American palette. The Matcha was nice, not very sweet and a little bitter. It is a little bit different than green tea and not your same flavor (sweet) as your Starbucks Matcha LOL. It is very authentic with an Asian chestnut and rice balls sitting on the top. In the bottom, they had red beans and come to think of it, they had red beans in the top also! BACK to the bottom, they had cornflakes with some kind of sweetness like, as a syrup type consistency, which was super yummy. On a Tuesday evening, a few friends decided to walk here from for dessert from the restaurant had dinner at because their parking lot is small. I had the Match Shaved Ice. It was such a large portion, 3 of us shared it and barely finished. It was a great lightly sweet, refreshing shaved ice matcha dessert. I definitely recommend it for sharing! I think Matcha Cafe Maiko has a lot of potential. Let me complain about something that everyone has complained about: the parking. This space used to be Vivi's Bubble Tea. They closed down quick. I think the reason is because of the location. Honestly, I don't know if any business can survive at this location because it has a tiny parking space. There's more seating inside than the parking space outside. You CANNOT park in the Large Korea-town Strip mall behind it, you will get towed (there's signs everywhere, and there's a mean Korean lady policing people who park there). So the only other option for parking is to park across the street or on Kung Fu Tea's parking, which is also severely limited. I would just uber here. Since I dedicated 4 paragraphs about parking, it shows it's a big problem. I'm sad because this is a place I would like to try more often. But the parking will prohibit that. Anyways, how's their desserts? They offer drinks of the Matcha variety. You can get traditional drinks, dessert-y drinks, or soft serve ice creams. For being a specialized Matcha place, they sure have a lot of offerings. It seems like their most popular item is their Parfait. It's a soft serve with a bunch of stuff in it like mochi, nuts, and beans. I tried their Matcha float. It's a soft-serve matcha ice cream inside of a cold matcha tea. I love match flavored desserts, and this didn't disappoint. They both had good bitter, matcha flavors. My only complaint was that the drink had a lot of ice, and not much drink. I think they should put no ice (since the ice cream should keep it cold) and make it a true float. I think they should move their location elsewhere. Wow. Best ten dollars I've spent on soft serve and green tea latte! I popped in a couple of weeks ago to check this place out. It's definitely a cute date spot for any matcha lovers or a cute spot to hang out with your girls. I got the kokuto matcha latte and a matcha soft serve in a waffle cone. I really liked that there was a hint of bitterness with a hint of sweet. Many other places do green tea soft serve a little too sweet for my palate but Cafe Maiko truly captures the essence of the matcha powder without overpowering it with sugar. The kokuto jelly is great as well! It's a brown sugar based jelly and I liked that it gave a nice bit of texture in my matcha latte.
