I don't know much about Chinese desserts, I ordered a towel cake of mochis. They were delicious and unique. Price point is reasonable, staff was helpful, and it's a quaint little dessert spot for post dinner sweet tooth. Thank you!

Wanted something tasty for dessert and came upon this place from IG. I ordered the cream soufflé and the matcha float. Both came out in pretty quick time even though it was a busy Saturday evening. Loved the cream soufflé! It was something different that I wanted to try and it wasn't too sweet which was amazing. The soufflé was so fluffy and hot and fresh. The cream inside was sooo good! Everything was well balanced together and the float was also great. Only downside is that it's a really small place. So inside felt very cramped and crowded.

I really liked this place! They have so many matcha options since it's a dessert cafe specializing in matcha and ube treats. I tried the soft serve with half vanilla and half matcha, and it was so good. I'll definitely be coming back to try more of their matcha desserts!

Delicious sweet treat at Matcha En! What a fun presentation. The matcha and vanilla ice cream was creamy and delicious! Fish cone had a nice doughy texture. Kind staff.

This place was really cute. You order at the kiosk and then you can sit and wait for your food or drinks. They are known for their matcha but the fruit tea drinks were really good too! Would definitely go back.

The drinks were good. It was very spacious and not too busy considering I went on a Wednesday around 5:30. The service was good. The card reader on the machine didnt work, so the staff had to take the order.

Cozy dessert spot in Chinatown closely connected to so many more dessert and dinner spots. There's a tablet available to order from but I missed it on entry. It's located opposite of the cash register and menu. Service was friendly. Washroom (restroom, bathroom search terms) available. Decent amount of seating, serving as a solid space to study or get work done. Black Sesame Matcha Latte - while the black sesame graininess settled at the bottom expectedly, the matcha was clearly whisked well. There were no clumps of bitterness to be found. Despite sugar adjustments, this was still very sweet so I'd classify the spot as more desserty rather than strong matcha or a cafe. Though I'm happy to be proven wrong with their regular matcha in the future.

I loved the concept, but not the execution. After we ordered, it was a literal 25 minute wait to get a drink to go. Insane if not made aware ahead of time. When I got my drink, the matcha was delicious but I ordered a banana pudding matcha. There was barely any and so it had no real banana flavor. TLDR: order the delicious matcha but go on a weekday.

Came here Friday night to have a dessert after dinner. It was already 10:30pm, closing is 11. I quickly made my order for ube soft serve ice cream. It was delicious! There is a distinct ube flavor though not strong. I love the level of sweetness. I appreciated that they didn't ask us to leave. When they started to clean other tables we took that as the cue to head out ;) and we respectfully did.

Matcha souffle pancake ($12) - did not live up to hype, was not a souffle pancake, came out cold and not fresh
    Sabrina J.

Came for the matcha souffle pancakes ($12) that appeared so enticing on their Instagram, and it ended up being a dud. The ordering kiosk said it would take 15-20 minutes to make. Instead, it came out in 2 minutes in a plastic box and was cold. I was shocked as this indicated the souffle was not fresh. They also left off the fruits shown on Instagram and the menu photo. They did accommodate my request for a real plate and fruits, but it should have come out with those already included. When I ate it, the matcha cream was good but it wasn't a souffle pancake. It was just a regular, bready pancake. This place was really crowded. I think they benefit from the matcha hype, but they do not really care about quality. They can get away with it due to all the foot traffic through Chinatown. You can skip this spot when you visit Chinatown because they do not live up to what they post online.

Matcha En was located in a Chinatown plaza! I'm not sure if there was a parking lot but we just found street parking. The plaza had a lot of other businesses that would make a fun side quest day. There were a lot of options here but I was excited to try the pancakes. I would try it again if someone else wants to come. Staff: (3/5) Sanitation: (3/5) Brown Sugar Boba Crème Brûlée Pancake (4/5) The pancake was pretty good. It was fluffy for sure and the crème brûlée sauce was good, I would definitely say the more sauce the better. The brûléed sugar on top was a nice texture change as well.

We stopped by Matcha En in Chinatown for the first time and ordered at the counter since we weren't sure what to try. Located in Chinatown Square near the entrance closer to the Walgreens. The cafe only has a few tables and a nice ambiance. Menu was extensive. I went with the Matcha Crepe and a side of Vanilla/Matcha swirl soft serve. The crepe was beautifully made -- soft, not dry, and layered with plenty of light matcha cream between each thin layer. It had a strong, authentic matcha flavor without being overly sweet. It came with a side of red bean, which was a bit too sweet for me, and a side of matcha cake, which I actually loved -- I'd definitely order that cake on its own next time. If you're a true matcha fan, this dessert is for you. 8/10 The soft serve was creamy and smooth, though a little too sweet for my taste. Next time I'll skip the vanilla swirl and go for just the matcha flavor. 8/10 I would definitely go back and try the other desserts.

We stopped by Matcha En about half an hour before they closed after having some dim sum at MingHin. We ordered on the kiosk after browsing the very large menu - they have a lot of ice cream options, drinks, and other desserts. The display case is fun because it shows what the (fake) versions of many items look like. I got the hojicha and ube ice cream in a cup, and Nate got the matcha and vanilla ice cream in a taiyaki fish cone. It took awhile for our order to come out. The store was a little messy and needed stocking, but again they were near closing. I was really excited for the combo of hojicha and ube since those are flavors that I enjoy and don't get a lot of back home, but unfortunately the ice cream really didn't have much flavor at all. The matcha and vanilla was a little more flavorful, but still not as much as I was expecting. We also thought it wasn't quite cold enough as it melted super fast (which made the taiyaki cone very messy to eat). Overall it's a cute spot but I don't know if I need to come back.

I could hear the sizzling from the grill, smell the food cooking, and by that point I was more than ready to eat. Our server was really nice and gave us a bunch of recommendations. Everything sounded good, but I ended up going with the Pork Belly Yakisoba. This dish was packed with flavor. The noodles had that smoky, slightly charred taste, and they were coated in just enough sauce to make every bite rich. The sauce brought a nice balance of savory, a little sweetness, and plenty of umami that soaked into the noodles. The pork belly was easily the best part. It was incredibly tender and juicy, with just enough fat that it practically melted in your mouth. Every piece had those caramelized edges that added even more flavor. Then you get the crunch from the cabbage and bean sprouts, the freshness from the scallions, and the little nutty flavor from the sesame that tied everything together. Hahaha I'd definitely come back. This is one of those dishes that sticked with me long after I left.

I got the pork okonomiyaki lunch set and added a fried egg to it. I like that the table has a built in grill to keep it warm (I'm a slow eater, so this is extra beneficial for me). The bacon was quite salty, compounded by the okonomi sauce. Hoping the kombu vegetables would offset this, I mixed them into each bite to no avail. The pandan coconut mochi donut holes I chose were probably the highlight. They were crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and there was ample sauce for dipping. I think some people would find the service top notch here--constantly checking in on me and keeping water refilled. I guess that came with a cost: 3% service charge automatically applied, and the server proactively brought over a digital payment system, so the 18% tip I selected calculated off the total leading to what was essentially a tip of 23%.

The service was great - from checking in (they ask about allergies and whether you're there for food / drink), to ordering experience, to the walkthrough of the menu. I understand why this was on the world's best bars list at one point. We ordered the truffle milk toast, the fukubukuro (signature cocktails) and the pineapple fizz (specials) to start. We both liked the pineapple fizz, missus thought the toast was a bit strong. She did warm up to the fukubukuro though, it's very complex, and you start to appreciate it the more you drink it. She later ordered the Japanese potato salad, and I waited to order the moonrise daiquiri. They did run out if the clarified milk punch as we arrived but they made a spice-forward one that the missus didn't end up ordering. The potato salad was divine - even better than the toast. The kitchen closed though, dang now I wanna try the entire food menu. For last call on drinks (1130pm) we did the moonrise daiquiri (special) for me and the walk softly (signature) for the missus. Definitely worth the last minute reservation, but the bar doesn't seem to be reserved and we always saw seats available while we were there. I will say that michelin guide is well deserved here - it's pricey, and not an everyday treat, but the experience was worth it. Highly recommend for any trip to Chicago, especially first timers, even if you don't drink, they have an entire page of non-alcoholic drinks that we would have tried (missus isn't a drinker usually). The walk softly is definitely more one-dimensional than the fukubukuro, but not in a bad way. The daiquiri flight you have to drink in order - cocktail, sake, hojicha, cocktail. It tastes different the second time around. Overall the staff were attentive but not overbearing, and I never felt pressured to order. It's a great experience - would recommend even for the non-alcoholic patrons out there.

Kumiko has a spirit-free cocktail menu for anyone who doesn't want to drink, and I ordered from it. I had the Maple Blues and the Uméboshi Swizzle. The Maple Blues lives up to its menu description: maple comes through up front, with the spice showing up on the back end. The Uméboshi Swizzle was so good on my first visit that I had to order it again, and it didn't disappoint. For food, we got the Japanese Potato Salad, Yuzu Kosho Karaage, A5 Wagyu Gyoza, Kareraisu (with the tofu add-on), and Rainbow Carrots. The Japanese Potato Salad and Yuzu Kosho Karaage are my favorites, best versions of both dishes I've had, and I order them every time I'm back. The Wagyu Gyoza and Kareraisu were both tasty, but not worth the price for me. I wouldn't order them again. The Rainbow Carrots are a solid choice if you're a carrot fan, and the candied pistachios on top were a great touch. For dessert, we tried the Koshian Cheesecake, Truffle Milk Toast, Kuro Goma, and a seasonal Apricot Sorbet. The Koshian Cheesecake and Truffle Milk Toast are must orders, both S tier. The Kuro Goma was solid, especially for black sesame lovers. The Apricot Sorbet was fine, but not something I'd get again. Hospitality here is excellent. The staff was attentive and happy to answer all our questions. The space is dimly lit, not too loud, and has limited seating. I love the interior design. Highly recommend Kumiko for great cocktails and food. It's a must-stop for me every time I'm in Chicago.

The 20 courses were well-paced and the quality was consistent throughout. Nigiri and sashimi were pristine, but the hot dishes were equally impressive, which surprised me. Both sides of the menu showed real craft and attention to detail. Service was fantastic -- warm, attentive, and never stuffy. At $210 per person, it's a special occasion meal, but one that genuinely delivers on the price. As someone who eats a lot of omakase back home in LA, I wasn't sure what to expect. I left genuinely impressed. Highly recommend if you're looking for a serious sushi experience in Chicago!!!

The views are absolutely spectacular--some of the best I've seen anywhere and, in my opinion, probably the best restaurant views in Chicago. What really took it to another level was the hospitality. We had family visiting from out of town, and they were greeted and welcomed by name, which was such a thoughtful touch. Between the incredible sushi, cocktails, views, and service, Miru delivered a truly unique and unforgettable Chicago experience.

It was the views that attracted us to this venue. It turned out to be a perfect evening with beautiful weather for dining al fresco. Since it was a Monday evening, the large modern dining room was not too busy. As expected, the outdoor terrace was bustling. The terrace is basically divided into 3 sections. We were seated in the first section closest to Navy Pier and Lake Michigan, and this area filled up fast shortly after 6:00 pm. Service was friendly and professional throughout the evening. Our server Justin was very knowledgeable of the menu. Both the hostess and Justin wished our daughter a happy birthday several times. A birthday dessert with a lit candle on the side was presented to her at the end of the dinner, making it a special meal to her. Our daughter ordered a cocktail called Happy Days ($23) that came in a Japanese cat shaped jar/glass. My husband had a glass of Chablis ($21), and I had a mocktail Setting Sun ($14), which has fresh yuzu, Valencia orange, lychee, Soda. However, I could only taste the soda, I wished I could taste the lychee. For dinner, we ordered the following to share: Kani Kani Crispy Rice ($34) -- Justin recommended this dish. I really enjoyed the crispy rice and the minced crab meat topping, which was flavorful and not too spicy. However, my husband did not feel that was a crab flavor. Tempura Rock Shrimp ($19) -- a nice quantity for sharing, shrimp was fresh, but nothing too special. Crispy Spring Rolls ($28) -- 6 very small spring rolls were filled with Maine lobster, pork, with Thai orange sauce. They were delicious but we couldn't really distinguish the lobster or pork in the minced filling. (For the nigiri and sashimi, each order came with 2 pieces. Everything we tried was fresh.) Unagi +1 piece ($14 + $7) -- BBQ Fresh Water Eel Seared Salmon Belly Nigiri +1 piece ($23 + $11.50) Kinmedai ($18) -- Golden Snapper Chutoro ($21) -- Medium Fatty Tuna A5 Wagyu Nigiri ($49) - This was a surprise disappointment. All 4 pieces of Wagyu were tough and had gristle in them, so chewy that we had to spit them out. It's definitely not the melt-in-your-mouth A5 Wagyu experience that I was looking for. Duck Yakisoba ($28) - This dish was mixed on our table by a server, that added more fun to a dish that had egg noodles, duck confit, and ginger. It was flavorful with a good amount of duck. Black Cod ($44) - It was nicely seared and prepared. However, my first bite had a very slight fishy smell in it. Otherwise, it was a good dish. Black Sesame Mochi ($18) -- Charcoal-Vanilla ice cream, black sesame praline, and mochi sponge. Surprisingly, this was the highlight of the night! The flavors and all the different textures worked very well together. I could easily eat a couple of these myself! I am still craving for the aromatic crispy black sesame praline and creamy charcoal-vanilla ice cream a week later! With a 3.5% restaurant surcharge, our total bill came to $431.80 before tip. Valet parking was originally $50, but with restaurant validation, it was brought down to $35. All in all, we had a wonderful birthday dinner for our daughter. The stunning views and ambiance with excellent service made it a memorable evening, while the food was very good overall, there were a couple of disappointments. For us, Miru is a 4-star experience overall, with 5-star ambiance and service.
