So glad I stumbled across Matchaful while I was walking in west village. The storefront in the west village is small so it's easy to miss out on places but glad I stumbled in. Matchaful had a sign about their banana soft serve so I had to stop in - especially since it was such a hot day. Inside, I love how the interior feels so welcoming and the staff is super friendly. They have a fridge of already made products and also a shelf of freshly baked goods. I love the variety of options across matcha. Hiiii! Recently, I stopped into MATCHAFUL - for the first time - and really enjoyed it. The low-key yet hospitable vibe there was palpable from the minute I walked in, largely thanks to Marco. (Thank you and bless you, Marco!) About a minute after I walked in the door, a sweet voice rang out, "Welcome!" paired with a delicious smile. Woa, wasn't sure that this level of customer care still existed (namely in indifferent NYC); but, apparently, someone trained this young man well OR he's a natural sweetheart (or both). At any rate, how refreshing! The young staff members with whom he worked (behind the counter), seemed equally nice, though they were more reserved in nature. So, I went all in and ordered their signature drink, which is called the "Mindful Mint." Further, I ordered it with macadamia nut mylk, one of my fave things in life, and it was delicious...so, extra points were scored, so to speak, for y'all having macadamia nut mylk! Yay! The drink itself was nothing short of heavenly (shoutout to the young lady, it appeared, who made it...though, sadly, I didn't catch her name). It was tasteful (tasted like almost equal parts peppermint and matcha), and airy...there was just enough foam on top, to make it feel like a borderline dessert. Yummy! It sure felt comforting on a chilly winter's day, without loading me up too much, in terms of caffeine! It was just the right amount to perk me up and help me to get through the rest of my workday...but not enough to make me hyper. : ) In closing: Gosh, I met my match in this matcha haven, which turned out to be both a soft AND sweet place to land. Convenient, cute matcha spot in West Village. Like most matcha cafes in NYC, it's a bit overpriced but I appreciate that they have straight matcha, matcha au lait, and matcha lattes (+ their specialty lattes if you want a sweeter, fun drink). I got the matcha au lait which is a mix of water and plant-based milk. I opted for the macadamia milk and monkfruit sweetener for a bit of sweetness. It's definitely fun to customize your drink! The matcha is nice and strong but a bit grainy. It's a nice lighter pick-me-up to get the matcha au lait compared to the heavier latte. I do think the matcha here could have been whisked more to prevent separation and overall it wasn't anything special. My friend got the ube matcha latte which I tried and was way too sweet and artificial tasting. Would definitely recommend the classic drinks if you truly want matcha. read more

Very clean place. Seems like good ingredients, seems all are non dairy friendly. But they also don't really like too much sugar so it really just tasted like grass. The only good one was the earth one with spirulina's but i think they would all be good with more maple syrup (their sweetener of choice). Very small place but also very popular so don't expect this place to have any space for you. pretty much a grab a go. but the real reason i will return --- the vegan gf MATCHa SOFTSERVE. .... whatever tf flavor they do w the whole matcha earth glow mix.... Crazy how Matchaful has grown! This is the first time visiting in years and their locations and menu have expanded considerably. I would say this is a more "commercialized" take on matcha for grab and go drinks vs. a traditional tea ceremony experience. Service was quick. They do have some bites and limited seating at this location. I ended up ordering a hot straight matcha which I thought was reasonably priced. Lattes seemed to range from $8-11. Stopped by for an afternoon boost but didn't want the post-coffee jitters, so we opted for some matcha. I got the cold foam matcha and you have the option of having it straight up (just the cold foam) or in latte form. It's nice that they offer plant-based milk alternatives without an extra cost. However, the drinks are a little on the pricy side, so I suppose it's already factoring in the substitution. Nothing really stood out about the matcha. It's definitely not very sweet and the matcha is quite concentrated. There isn't much seating inside so it can be tough on a cold and rainy day. Overall, it was a pretty average matcha drink. The newest Matchaful cafe just opened here. It's tiny and zenful. I usually came here for their vegan Matcha soft serve. I highly recommend the soft serve. It's pricey ($8.50+tax). I occasionally get the straight hot matcha and Matchaful. The Matcha flavor is great but unfortunately they made the matcha with the water higher than 175 degrees. Matcha should not be made with boiling water. The service is pretty fast for soft serve. The cafe has limited seatings. read more

If you're looking for a sweet matcha latte that you would typically get in any other cafe, this may not be your best choice. They have a very strong, thick, rich matcha taste. I added a sweetener but it was NOT sweet AT ALL. I had their strawberry matcha latte with homemade almond milk. The strawberry made the drink so sour and weird. the almond milk was "homemade" and very thick, creamy. I like the "homemade" and "healthy" vibe they were going for, but it was just not that good...
