I was having my car serviced nearby, so I met up here with my wife for dinner. I really enjoyed their "special" sandwich, which had pastrami, coleslaw, and russian dressing. Had it with a side of potato salad, which was a nice complement to the heavy sandwich. Wife got their chicken pot pie, which was had a delicious crust. Wife would have liked it to have a little more filling; however, it was pretty enjoyable. Their bakery is pretty good as they serve plenty of classic cakes and cookies. I've had their flavored bagel chips gifted to my office on several occasions and they're good, but it would be nice to have suggested dip/flavor pairings for them, that could offer their customers more interesting depth to the delicious snack. The place is so beautiful! So much detail and so classy and unique. Everyone is pleasant and welcoming. The food was prompt and hot and delicious. I got the beef stroganoff and the braised beef was melting with every bite. The sauce that it was entwined in was so savory. The mushrooms were also its own flavorful addition to the plate. I paired this already hearty dish with a pastrami Mary (bloody Mary). The drink was not too heavy on the tomato and not too watered down. I really appreciate a delish meal drink. Also, thankful that samples are provided on their cakes. Nice little side dessert snack. However, I couldn't resist on getting a cookie to go. Overall, I'm happy that I enjoyed my first visit. This is a beautiful restaurant but it's so confusing. We walked in and asked for help, and they were helpful in explaining the different counters. You order coffee somewhere and then baked goods in another area. There's a deli and a restaurant and then goods in a market. However, everything is super spread out and confusing. We pulled a ticket for the bakery and ordered some items, including a bagel. Apparently they don't toast the bagel but didn't tell us that. Weird. We got some cookies and they were good. We ordered a coffee from a different counter. I had the Katella latte and it was good. I wanted to get a pastrami sandwich but it seemed as if no one was working in the deli and I couldn't tell if I had to sit at the restaurant to order it or could get it at the counter. There were people and lines everywhere so we just went outside and enjoyed our cookies and coffee. It's a pretty space, but needs way more signage and organization. read more

It's always packed here! Katella Bakery is a long standing Los Alamitos staple. They're known for their pastrami sandwiches, deli, and bakery. I've come to their bakery several times now, and my favorites are their Pastrami and Cheese Croissant and Ham and Cheese Croissant! I'm also a fan of their chocolate dipped Coconut Macaroons! Their Mixed Fruit Tart is loaded with lots of fruit! The tart shell is filled with vanilla custard and a thin layer of vanilla cake. So pretty and colorful! The Tres Leches cake is not bad, but I think the brandy flavor is a bit too strong. I finally made it a point to dine in the restaurant because every time I come to the bakery, it look so nice! When you put your name down, they'll text you when your table is ready. We started with the House-Smoked Salmon Dip. It comes with their house made bagel chips and some veggies (carrot sticks, celery, and bell peppers). I enjoyed it! Also, after eating the bagel chips, I liked them so much, I bought some from the bakery to take home! Since they're famous for their pastrami, we had to try one of their pastrami sandwiches! We tried the Bronx Delight, a triple-decker sandwich with corned beef, pastrami, salami, Swiss, and Russian dressing on rye. This one didn't have any veggies in it, which I feel like it needed. So, getting coleslaw as your side is the perfect option! The pastrami was good! I don't think it really needed the salami, so next time I'll probably opt for a pastrami only sandwich with the coleslaw! They also have a dinner menu, so I decided to try their Lemon Caper Salmon Linguini. The pan seared salmon was perfectly cooked with a nice crispiness on the outside. The caper lemon butter sauce was so good as well! I just wish there was a bit more pasta. The actual pasta portion seemed to be a bit small. Hello Fellow Yelpers On 5-31-26 I had one of the worst dinning experiences. We went for a late breakfast. Due to some dietary restrictions my BF wanted to order the Breakfast burrito and ask for the following items to be excluded sour cream, chili beans and tater tots. The waitress told us that the manager does not allow changes to this item, so we ask for the manager so we could explain the situation. The manager came up we told him our situation and he said that due to the kitchen messing this item up when people ask for changes he is no longer allowing changes and then he said, which was odd, that he wanted people to experience the burrito as is. So we begrudgingly ordered a Denver omelet, but asked what kind of bell peppers do you use, which the waitress said red and green. So we said ok as we do not like green bell peppers by themselves. Guess what we got, yep, and omelet with a bunch of green bell peppers and no red ones. To say we were beyond disappointed is an understatement. Oh and I realized that their coffee is really bitter, so I just sent it back. Please note that I absolutely love the lunch and dinner food, just not the breakfast food. I opted for the patio seating, which was perfect for enjoying the lovely weather. To start, I ordered a cappuccino, and it was absolutely delicious. For my meal, I went with the New York strip steak, complete with garlic Parmesan fries and added two eggs cooked over medium. The steak was cooked exactly to my liking (medium), and it was flavorful and tender. The garlic Parmesan fries paired perfectly with the steak. Busy, unclear where to go, chaotic service. I grabbed a deli number. They called two numbers ahead of me, both didn't respond so I was up. She had already changed the now serving number and told me they'll serve me next and proceed to help this other person. She even told the crowd of staff to serve me next. This crowd of staff completely ignored her and called the number after me. I immediately told them I had the number before, they said, again, the next person would help me. I put my foot down and said, not a second time. The staff member looked perplexed and finally begged the person next to her, who wasn't helping anyone, to help me. This is an operations and management issue when your employees went two opposite ways and managed to completely drop a person who was there and paying attention. Also that there were a gaggle of staff standing around seemingly not doing anything. The person helping me then proceeded to look annoyed I existed and had any questions because a bunch of their items were missing labels (what is wrong with operations here?!) They got the extra star because it's amongst the best black and white cookies I've had in California, which is why I stopped in. Parking lot was a mess. At least they appear to be terrible to everyone and not discriminating against me as a disabled person... Parking lot was also full and a mess. All around an unpleasant experience. It has been years since hubs & I have eaten here, MAN has the restaurant changed! The remodel is beautiful! I remember when it was a much smaller restaurant. The server was so nice. My colleagues took me to Katella's for our lunch meeting and I could not have had a more wonderful eating and dining experience. Beautiful ambience, some booth-seating that offers a little privacy, and a friendly, attentive server. And the menu, good stuff ! I had the Au Jus, sandwich...so good! The prime rib meat was juicy and tender while the bread was fluffy. The jus itself; full of flavor without being too salty. My colleagues ordered the Ruben and the Roast beef sandwich which they both loved! The only thing I missed out on were the desserts. Finally came here to eat. The place is quite big so even on a weekend lunch we only waited about 10 minutes. Everything was great. The onion rings were freshly fried and so crispy, perfect with the ranch. Eggs Benedict with Lox was delicious. The blueberry ricotta pancakes tasted like having cake for breakfast in the best way possible. The cream was also so light and fluffy. The sandwich my sister got was decent, the only thing was it came with a side of salad which she chose carrot salad and we all agreed that it tasted like ice cream, which was a bit weird. All the potions are massive and we all had leftovers for another meal. Bakery Update: The fruit cake with almonds was perfect. I got it last year for my birthday and the cream was light and fluffy and the nuts on the side gave it that perfect crunch to balance the sweetness of the cake and fruit. The triple berry cake was the worst cake by far. Not in a sense that it was bad, just all the previous cakes I tried (almost 5 diff cakes) all had the super light and fluffy cream and were so good. The cream on this cake specifically was a more thick cream (maybe like a cream cheese cream?). It was still delicious but I probably preferred if it had that light whipped cream on the outside like it did with all the previous cakes. This last time was the straw that broke me. It took 75 mins to get most of our food. The AC VENT ABOVE MY TABLE WAS DRIPPING ON MY PLATE. When I mentioned it to the waiter, he said "sorry". No offer to relocate us, comp any food, etc. Then he ghosted us, I had to go get to-go boxes myself and track down a different waitress to print our bill. The issue wasn't just what happened during my visit--it was how it was handled afterward. I had to repeatedly initiate contact because no one ever followed up with me. I called multiple times, sent emails, and ultimately spoke with three different managers in an effort to resolve the situation. Instead of taking responsibility, I was met with excuses, dismissive treatment, and contradictory information. One manager even hung up on me during our conversation. At no point did anyone offer a sincere apology or make a genuine effort to resolve the issue. Mistakes happen, but how a business responds is what matters. Unfortunately, the complete lack of professionalism, accountability, and basic respect for a customer was more disappointing than the original experience itself. There's a huge parking lot but sometimes you still may have to park at the strip mall a bit ways out because of the popularity of this spot. It's a beautiful restaurant with both indoor and ample outdoor seating in addition to a huge bakery and some cafe seating. Clean bathrooms and handicap accessible as well with baby changing tables. (I usually coming with my friend and her baby-so that's important here!) I love alll of the sandwiches and ordered the California Club today. They also offer a leave breakfast menu, salads and soups and allllll of their food is absolutely delicious. This was my first time here, and unfortunately the service left a lot to be desired. The wait itself wasn't bad, but it took about 15 to 20 minutes just to get our drinks, and during that time nobody checked in or reassured us that they were on the way. Our food took about 45 minutes to come out as well. I understand places get busy, especially a restaurant this size, but communication goes a long way. I've worked in the service industry myself, and I know that even if something is delayed, taking a moment to let your table know what's going on makes a huge difference. It wasn't so much the wait that bothered me, it was being left wondering what was happening. My eggs were also undercooked compared to how I ordered them, but by the time they arrived I just ate them. To be fair, the manager did come by and check on us, which I appreciated.
