Service at to go desk not great. I asked staff person if ok to wait outside because lobby was jammed. She indicated "do what you like". Waited for a while no one called my name. So went back inside and asked. My order was ready and sitting which is frustrating. I was not the only person who had to go back and ask. Tip: sandwich comes with no condiments (mustard or ketchup). Came here for brunch yesterday on a Saturday around 10:30 a.m. We live locally and hadn't been back since the renovation, so we were curious to check it out because it looks so nice from the outside now. Overall, I'd say the best thing about this restaurant is the new aesthetic. It looks beautiful, but that's about it. The customer service was seriously lacking. We ordered the chicken fingers as an appetizer, and the menu literally says word for word they're "served with honey mustard or BBQ sauce." I forgot to specify I wanted BBQ when ordering because our server never asked which sauce we wanted, and we were ordering several other items at the same time. When the chicken fingers arrived, they came with ranch instead. That reminded me I wanted BBQ sauce, so we had to wait quite a while for our server to come back since the service was already slow. When I asked if I could get BBQ sauce instead, she told me it would be an extra 50 cents. I was confused because the menu clearly says the chicken fingers are "served with honey mustard or BBQ sauce." She explained that they actually automatically come with ranch by default, and if you want honey mustard or BBQ, it's an additional 50 cents per sauce. That made absolutely no sense. If ranch is the default, then the menu should clearly say "served with ranch." It gave me the impression that the servers either don't know the menu or don't know how to explain it properly. Charging extra for a tiny cup of BBQ sauce when we're already ordering multiple food items just felt incredibly cheap and like a money grab. An establishment like Katella Deli shouldn't nickel-and-dime customers over something so minor. It's tacky. Anyways I wasn't going to sit there and argue over 50 cents, but it definitely left a bad impression. As for the rest of the food, it was just okay. We also ordered the spinach omelette, which comes with toast, but the toast didn't arrive until we were nearly finished with the omelette which was probably about 15 minutes after the plate had already been brought out. Even simple requests like ketchup and hot sauce took a long time after we asked for them. We also overheard a few tables around us getting annoyed just sitting there waiting for their bill so they could leave. Overall, the experience just wasn't great. From the bakery items to the salads, and don't even get me started on the pastrami. It's always a melt-in-your-mouth experience. Unfortunately, our visit on the evening of 7/28 was a huge disappointment because of the service. We came in around 7:00 p.m. just wanting to unwind after a long day. The hostess was wonderful as always, but our server, Mayra, was unfriendly from the start. My boyfriend and I ordered a pastrami pizza and an order of zucchini to share, and it immediately felt like she was irritated that we weren't ordering more. She brought our bread and pickles, and then disappeared. Another server brought out our food, and throughout the rest of our meal, she never checked on us once. I needed ranch for my pizza and a refill on my iced tea. We made eye contact several times, but she never came over to our table. What made the experience even harder to ignore was that we were the only Mexican couple seated in that section, while the surrounding tables were all white. From where we were sitting, it seemed like those tables were receiving attentive service while ours was consistently overlooked. I can't say for certain why we were treated differently, but that's honestly how it felt, and it left a bad impression. We still tipped her well because that's the kind of people we are, but the service simply didn't match the quality of the food. I'll absolutely keep coming back because the food is phenomenal, but I sincerely hope management addresses service like this. We came at 5 o'clock on a Friday. It was amazing that we got seated immediately. We beat the crowd! Yay! I came with my daughter and son-in-law for dinner. Katella Bakery has my fav carrot cake and I picked up a slice over the weekend for a sweet treat. It's incredibly moist and I love that it has raisins and coconut. Super delicious, great cream cheese frosting, and the perfect amount of spice. They also have such an amazing variety of other cakes, pastries, cookies, and much more. I have to come back and try more because everything looked soooo good. It can get a bit crowded on the weekends but the line moves pretty fast. You just grab a number ticket and wait for it to be called. I love the system because it gives you time to look around and see what you want. The hosts and are server were nice and polite. However after dining in for the the third time I will confidently recommend the bakery and not the dine in experience. It was a busy Saturday for lunch but the kitchen moves slow. They forgot some details of my order such as the chicken I requested to be added to the matzo ball soup, and my bread was forgotten. We also ordered the corned beef and Rueben sandwiches. From the time we ordered to the food arriving at our table was about 50 minutes. Unless the meats are currently roasting, being cooked or prepared this was too long in my opinion as these are sandwiches and one matzo ball soup that was ordered. Were the sandwiches good? Everything here that I tried was excellent. Denver omelette was good but I should've added cheese as I don't think there was any. Veggie omelette was really good and cheesy. I was having my car serviced nearby, so I met up here with my wife for dinner. I really enjoyed their "special" sandwich, which had pastrami, coleslaw, and russian dressing. Had it with a side of potato salad, which was a nice complement to the heavy sandwich. Wife got their chicken pot pie, which was had a delicious crust. Wife would have liked it to have a little more filling; however, it was pretty enjoyable. Their bakery is pretty good as they serve plenty of classic cakes and cookies. I've had their flavored bagel chips gifted to my office on several occasions and they're good, but it would be nice to have suggested dip/flavor pairings for them, that could offer their customers more interesting depth to the delicious snack. Came here on a Friday for lunch with a friend. We arrived a little before 11AM. Parking lot was huge, but was already 2/3 full. We were greeted as soon as we entered and seated right away. The restaurant was already bustling with many diners. We arrived at a good time, since there were a handful of opened tables available. Our waiter came over after a few minutes of sitting to greet us and take our drink order. After receiving our drinks we ordered: side of bacon for Mt daughter, fried zucchini for the table, I got the Club sandwich sans the onion and went with sourdough bread instead of the wheat, listed on the menu, with a side of fries(for the daughter) and my friend got the fried chicken sandwich with a side of fries. The bacon and zucchini came out about 15 minutes later. Our meals came out another 10 minutes after. I really enjoyed my sandwich and zuchinni zucchini. My daughter ate everything, her bacon and fries. Afterwards I picked up a few cake slices for later: carrots, oreo, and chocolate. All were delicious. When we left, around 12:30pm and the restaurant was packed and so was the parking lot. Overall, had a great lunch and would definitely go back for more. read more

This is a beautiful restaurant but it's so confusing. We walked in and asked for help, and they were helpful in explaining the different counters. You order coffee somewhere and then baked goods in another area. There's a deli and a restaurant and then goods in a market. However, everything is super spread out and confusing. We pulled a ticket for the bakery and ordered some items, including a bagel. Apparently they don't toast the bagel but didn't tell us that. Weird. We got some cookies and they were good. We ordered a coffee from a different counter. I had the Katella latte and it was good. I wanted to get a pastrami sandwich but it seemed as if no one was working in the deli and I couldn't tell if I had to sit at the restaurant to order it or could get it at the counter. There were people and lines everywhere so we just went outside and enjoyed our cookies and coffee. It's a pretty space, but needs way more signage and organization. read more

I love Reuben's and katella deli is doing sandwiches right. I've been doorsashin' this place for a while and came in with sister and nephew and had a feast. Reuben with corned beef and pastrami. Next time I'll try the pastrami fries. Seriously there are a few delis in OC and this place 100% is my personal favorite. Their bread and fresh ingredients set them apart from the rest. Now that I've been to their actual restaurant I see they have all kinds of delicious treats and a full deli. The restaurant is big and clean and the staff are all very friendly. Very disappointing. We are big fans of Katella Deli for breakfast, so we decided to try it for lunch. The wait was about 35 mins, expected for a a busy business - no big deal. We got sat in the upstairs section all the way in the back, we waited a little over 10 minutes before anyone came to take our drink order. The server saw us seating there at least 3 times before she approached us at the 10 minute mark, I set up a timer and we're getting ready to walk out when she came. We placed our order, we got our drinks (3) but only 2 straws she acknowledge that she needed to get one more straw but didn't come back. Out order came out and we were told the small salad we ordered was being re-done because they had prepared a full size, we cancelled it at that point because the rest of the food was already at the table. The server disappeared and never even brought a refill for me, earlier she had brought a couple of refills, upon request, for the other 2 people in our party but she never followed up with my refill. The fried mozzarella was fantastic, and the chicken noodle soup was good, the pizza was just ok but the pastrami sandwich was disappointing. We paid $24 for a sandwich where half of the filling was fat....not worth it! The pastrami was tasty but some of the pieces were chewy and well check the photo to see the amount of fat served. We spoke to the manager who actively listened to us and apologized but the server just ended up giving us a bad attitude. We will definitely stick to visiting this place for breakfast only and request to be seated in a different section where we know the service is better. read more

It's always packed here! Katella Bakery is a long standing Los Alamitos staple. They're known for their pastrami sandwiches, deli, and bakery. I've come to their bakery several times now, and my favorites are their Pastrami and Cheese Croissant and Ham and Cheese Croissant! I'm also a fan of their chocolate dipped Coconut Macaroons! Their Mixed Fruit Tart is loaded with lots of fruit! The tart shell is filled with vanilla custard and a thin layer of vanilla cake. So pretty and colorful! The Tres Leches cake is not bad, but I think the brandy flavor is a bit too strong. I finally made it a point to dine in the restaurant because every time I come to the bakery, it look so nice! When you put your name down, they'll text you when your table is ready. We started with the House-Smoked Salmon Dip. It comes with their house made bagel chips and some veggies (carrot sticks, celery, and bell peppers). I enjoyed it! Also, after eating the bagel chips, I liked them so much, I bought some from the bakery to take home! Since they're famous for their pastrami, we had to try one of their pastrami sandwiches! We tried the Bronx Delight, a triple-decker sandwich with corned beef, pastrami, salami, Swiss, and Russian dressing on rye. This one didn't have any veggies in it, which I feel like it needed. So, getting coleslaw as your side is the perfect option! The pastrami was good! I don't think it really needed the salami, so next time I'll probably opt for a pastrami only sandwich with the coleslaw! They also have a dinner menu, so I decided to try their Lemon Caper Salmon Linguini. The pan seared salmon was perfectly cooked with a nice crispiness on the outside. The caper lemon butter sauce was so good as well! I just wish there was a bit more pasta. The actual pasta portion seemed to be a bit small. This review is just for the coffee cafe section. Alicia and Oscar make an amazing team when it comes to preparing drinks. They truly listen and recommend what tastes good--I've been coming for the lattes and coffee for a while, but am only now writing a review. The Katella Royal iced coffee with brown sugar syrup is excellent. The matcha is unsweetened, but they have flavored syrups that actually taste authentic. The cortado is perfectly brewed with steamed milk, and the chai latte is well-balanced with the right spices, milk, and sweetness. read more

I grew up coming to Katella Deli since I was little. We have gotten our cakes here as kids. When I'm under the weather, the Matzo Ball soup has always been the cure. The zucchini bread is my favorite to take home. Give their coffee a try at the coffee bar. We come here for breakfast sometimes (Lemon Ricotta Pancakes and Eggs Benedict), but go early because there is always a wait time. I typically order to go from here. Sometimes it can be a little loud inside just because of the tile and ceramic around the place. But the remodel is gorgeous! Just celebrated my daughters second birthday and ordered a beautiful cake. I came in with a cake design and the cake decorator was able to something similar. The service was fast and friendly. For my meal, I went with the New York strip steak, complete with garlic Parmesan fries and added two eggs cooked over medium. The steak was cooked exactly to my liking (medium), and it was flavorful and tender. The garlic Parmesan fries paired perfectly with the steak. I can confidently say this will be my go to meal on my next visit! Another satisfying brunch at Katella bakery. It is my first time on a week day. It was less crowded which i enjoyed. I also found parking a lot quicker. Hello Fellow Yelpers On 5-31-26 I had one of the worst dinning experiences. We went for a late breakfast. Due to some dietary restrictions my BF wanted to order the Breakfast burrito and ask for the following items to be excluded sour cream, chili beans and tater tots. The waitress told us that the manager does not allow changes to this item, so we ask for the manager so we could explain the situation. The manager came up we told him our situation and he said that due to the kitchen messing this item up when people ask for changes he is no longer allowing changes and then he said, which was odd, that he wanted people to experience the burrito as is. So we begrudgingly ordered a Denver omelet, but asked what kind of bell peppers do you use, which the waitress said red and green. So we said ok as we do not like green bell peppers by themselves. Guess what we got, yep, and omelet with a bunch of green bell peppers and no red ones. To say we were beyond disappointed is an understatement. Oh and I realized that their coffee is really bitter, so I just sent it back. Please note that I absolutely love the lunch and dinner food, just not the breakfast food.
