I ordered from Matsunoki tonight from my lunch break, and being a discerning ramen enthusiast, I was skeptical, as there are only a few ramen joints in Portland that I consider top-tier for taste and quality... This was absolutely one of them! I had the spicy shoyu with chashu pork and a soft boiled egg, sprinkled with green onion. I subbed the thin noodles for the thick ones and that was totally the right decision. Firstly, the broth was sumptuous, full of rich umami flavor, accented with a spicy garlic oil. The noodles were outstanding, with perfect al Dente texture and soaked up the broth's flavor perfectly. The chashu was some of the best I've had: cut slightly thicker with a seared crust that accentuated the pork belly's unctuous flavor. For appetizer we got the shishito peppers to try, the chili mayo that came with was so good! The peppers themselves were a bit too oily for my taste, but a squeeze of lime really elevated the flavor. We got: spicy garlic ramen ($18)- definitely a bold flavor, leaning on the saltier side. It felt a bit heavy after a few bites. the black garlic shoyu ($17) was more mellow, and the noodles soaked up the broth nicely. Both bowls came with perfectly jammy eggs. Service was good for how busy they were, we were the beginning of the dinner crowd. We got the Pumpkin Tantanmen, which I recommend since it's the fall special and temporary. It's not that spicy like a 5 out of 10. My friend got the mild curry ramen. Our favorite part was the broth and pork belly. I would recommend getting extra serving of pork belly. The noodles were good but we both thought they could've been a bit thicker. We also shared a 2 piece order of jumbo tenders and they are def JUMBO! I got the curry flavor and it was soooo good. I saved the left over for my broth. Our only complaint was the table we got was super janky, like it had a missing screw and was wobbly but we survived and didn't spill. We had the curry ramen, Tonkotsu Shoyu, and the Vegan Tokyo Shoyu. The curry ramen was the best, it was amazing if you go here you should definitely get that. The service was good, there was no wait, and the food came out quick and hot. It was a comfortable setting. I was at the coffee shop next door and lunch time snuck up on me. I walked through the hallway into this ramen shop around 1pm and it was pretty empty. I ordered the black garlic ramen and a peach margarita. The ramen was delicious and you could smell the garlic on it! I wish they had more toppings like mushrooms and bamboo shoots but their additions were very limited which was a bummer. I like my ramen bowls to be packed! The pork piece in the ramen was the best I've ever had!! Or was a thick, fatty piece of pork that was very delicious! I feel like most ramen places give you dry, thin slices of pork but this pork was amazing. The broth was also tasty and I definitely kept drinking it when the noodles were gone. I enjoyed my peach margarita too! I've never had a peach margarita but I felt like this was refreshing! Overall, a great spot with great food! I got my ramen quickly too. A cute shop with delicious ramen! Upon entering the aroma of broth filled the air. It smelled so good, and thankfully the ramen did not disappoint. I got the spicy garlic ramen and added corn. The broth was creamy but still light, not super salty or sweet tasting. The broth was super rich and tasted like it had been simmering for hours. The noodles were perfect and there was a LOT of it in the regular portion. The meat was thick and a little on the dry side, but still really good with the ramen broth. My egg was overcooked so I was a little sad about that. You order at the counter and seat yourself, thankfully there were still a few tables open when we arrive during dinner time as they did get quite busy! Yum yum yum. We were looking for some ramen that packed a flavor punch and found it here. The Tantanmen spicy miso ramen was beyond delicious. So flavorful and creamy, spice level just a slight burn, nothing crazy. The tofu (and I'm not a tofu eater) was melt in your mouth and full of flavor. The pork belly was not that flacid chewy stuff you see elsewhere, it was compact pieces with a crunchy side that were a delight to eat and not a chore. We also had the winter special Singapore Chili Crab Ramen that had a fried soft shell crab in it. Also delicious! This broth was a little more sour, but oh so delicious. We WILL be back! read more

Great new ramen spot on N. Mississippi! I just finished my vegan spicy garlic ramen and I'm already planning my next trip. The best thing about this place is there are just a many vegan ramen options on the menu as meat. They seemed to be a little short staffed today. Maybe they didn't plan for the possible mother's day rush. The staff was nice, but didn't apologize for the wait. My grandma and I have made it a tradition to go to ramen shops once a month in Portland, this month was this shop and I can say without a doubt this is the best one we've gone to so far out of 5 or 6 different ones. Nobody's orders were made and the place was very behind. Waited until 7:30 before asking for an update on order. Server said they would check and started making drinks never gave me a status on the order. Continued to wait until 7:46 before deciding to cancel order. Charged full amount food was never ready or prepared and now I'm unable to get a refund for what was paid through Uber Eats since they use Uber Eats for their online orders. Lost an hour trying to try a new spot. Didn't even end up trying it. Went to a trusted ramen spot and ended up paying for dinner twice on a Sunday night. read more

Waited 45 minutes for my food, with zero indication that this would be the case, and no one checking in to let me know my food was still coming. Started to worry that it would come at all. When it finally got to me, the ramen was very tasty, however completely missing the pork belly apart from a few tiny pieces. Stopped by looking for some good ramen on a typical cool overcast PNW day. Just a few customers but it took me over 30 minutes to get served. I watched 3 tables come in after me and get their meals. It wasn't until I asked about the delay was I told my order had been "lost"? It so happens I am an African-American male. The meal was alright but the service spoiled my experience.
