I was not expecting the beans and rice, but was happy to have it. The rice was a little salty, and I wish I would have ordered guacamol, or sour cream would have been nice. A little surprised thats not included. Other than that, everything was delicious and very filling. Sandia drink is fresh and absolutely amazing! I hadn't had that in a long time! Service was great. Omg - love! This is the sweetest casual spot for healthy, fresh Mexican food. (Tip: it's right next to Cabellas and despite the dark window tint they are open until 8pm) We enjoyed salsa and chips (spicy spicy salsa), veggies burrito, carbs asada fries, BRC burrito. They also have 4-5 drinks showcased (mint and cucumber water, horchata, etc), kombucha on tap, and a few bottled drinks. No alcohol. Staff is friendly, patience (read: bring your kids), and helpful. That's not a hair on my double chinny chin chin... Today I stumbled upon a delightful surprise at Matteo's Mexican Food: the Philly Torta! I wasn't planning on having a torta, but when I saw this unique twist on a classic, I couldn't resist giving it a try. And boy, was I pleasantly surprised! The Philly Torta tastes just like a Philly cheesesteak, with the only noticeable difference being the meat. Instead of the thinly shaved meat you'd find in a traditional Philly cheesesteak, this torta uses Carne Asada along with grilled bell peppers, onions, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, and tomato. So, in essence, it's a different kind of sandwich, but one that successfully captures the flavors of a Philly cheesesteak. What impressed me the most was the cheese. Although it didn't look like there was a lot of it, every single bite had that satisfying cheese pull. The combination of fresh red and green bell peppers added a touch of sweetness that paired perfectly with the savory fillings. Surprisingly, I didn't even need the salsa that came with it! So, if you're in the mood for a sandwich that closely mimics the taste of a Philly cheesesteak, I highly recommend giving the Philly Torta at Matteos a try. You won't be disappointed! If you are looking for fast food but Mexican, I recommend this place. Aguas are pretty good. They let you sample. They have 2 sizes, regular and large. Large is pretty big, I couldn't finish it. I really liked the blueberry coconut water. My wife had the horchata. It was ok for me. Food: They have several options but I had been craving flautas forever so I tried them. Nothing wow but they are fully stuffed with chicken(not skinny kind). My wife ordered the Miners bowl which she liked a lot. Good amount of food. I'll go back to try their brisket next. read more

New Mexican cuisine place on the west side - near Cabelas! They're known for their Agua Frescas - they have so many different flavors. Everything is very reasonably priced! Three tacos, rice, beans - all for 9.99. It was decent, but the rice was really good. Friday and Saturday's they have brisket as an option. We ordered chips and gauc , it wasn't on the menu but they do have it as well as two salsa types. This place just opened so the line is pretty long and everyone is new, so have to be patient with that. Decent amount of seating. We will be back! read more

Stopped by Matteo's recently and tried the hatch green enchiladas. I also ordered a fresa crema agua. Meal was out within 5-10 minutes. So I noticed the enchiladas were flat instead of rolled, not used to that..still looked delicious. Tried cut into the it with my fork was a process, shoulda asked for a knife. Anyhow, the rice and beans weren't anything special but the green chile sauce did have a kick, wasn't hot but kinda spicy. Overall not the best I've had, ain't the worst either. This was my first visit and I was looking forward to an exciting food experience. So the prices were great for the portion size. I wanted to try two things so I asked for the orders to be packed into go containers even though I was going to sit for a minute and taste. I only gave it four stars because the food tastes exceptionally salty to me and there seemed to be no other taste- Holy Smokes do I have Covid???!!! The fries were super plentiful and the bright green sauce was so picturesque but I was looking for taste and all I got was salt. The chicken flautas were filled beautifully! They were nicely rolled and beautiful look at. Another generous portion- there were three of them and they were big, plus rice, beans topped with cheese and shredded lettuce. So I went to bite into the flauta and it was as if the oil in the deep fryer was not hot enough. The shell was crispy but soaked up too much of the oil and that permeated the flavor. The management and staff deserve kudos for staying on top of the place. They cleaned tables and the chairs as soon as customers left and were constantly sweeping the floor. This was excellent. Because this is a great family style place, it can get messy quickly with little kids dropping stuff but the staff was on top of it. Another great thing is that the containers to go are really good. Been here at least 3x and not impressed with different items I've tried. This time I tried the brisket fries but for 11.99 I expected more meat and cheese to match the fries. It was lightly sprinkled with flavorless brisket and hardly any cheese. I asked for salsa and was told they have green chile for an extra $1 (tiny portion). In addition, fries were very soggy and not seasoned. Picture shows ratio of fries. Note: Aguas frescas are pretty good though. I believe they were $5 at 1st but today paid $6. They do not know what a real Gordita is. Their version of Gordita is a pocket of flour flat bread stuffed with chile colorado meat. Traditional Gorditas are made of cornmeal pocket stuffed with ground beef, lettuce, tomatoes cheese. So disappointed. read more

I love Matteo's! After visiting the las cruces location, I was happy to see them open up here in El Paso. I'm a vegetarian and their veggie tacos are so incredibly good.
