    New shower door

I met Matt through a friend who had used him for several remodel projects at their house. I was really impressed with the work he and his crew did and when it was time to remodel my master bathroom, I gave Matt a call. Matt was a pleasure to work with. He listened to my ideas, my concerns, gave great suggestions and took me to pick out all the finishes. He made the process as stress-free as he could. I had met with other contractors, but they basically wanted me to gut the entire bathroom and do things "their way". Matt was different. Where other contractors said "no ", Matt said "I can do that". For example, I had an existing solid oak vanity that I really wanted to keep, however, it was showing some wear and tear. Matt's crew was able to come in and repaint it, install a new countertop and sink/faucet and made it look new again. I also wanted to keep my existing shower floor/pan since it was in great condition and easy to clean. Matt was able to work with it, having new tile walls installed, new shower fixtures, and even a new shower niche making the entire shower look completely new. Throughout the job, Matt made sure that the existing shower floor was covered and protected. His crew was courteous and hard-working, and took special care to keep the rest of the house clean as they went in and out to do their work. As with any construction projects, there were a few hiccups, but Matt addressed them quickly and they didn't become a big deal. Matt is honest, hard-working and stands by his work. I was so pleased with the master bath remodel, that after it's completion, I had him do a few additional items to update a secondary bathroom! I would definitely hire Matt and his crew again.

Matt went above and beyond and helped put in ceiling lights which was not originally in the scope of work.

I sent dimensions and a site image and was able to get a quote without a site visit. Our installer was very detail oriented and discovered our wall was not completely flush, which meant that the tile at the top of the wall would be a slightly different width than the one at the bottom. We discussed different strategies for approaching this problem. The zellige we received was also highly variable in quality and color. I asked our installer to pick out the tile in the best condition since we had ordered 10-20% extras and were very happy with the results.

My partner and I even made mock ups of the design we wanted to achieve. Noe was responsive over text when taking down our requirements, giving quotes, and estimating how much material we should purchase which we purchased on our own (though we might have over purchased our material by 20%, I'd much rather have extra than not enough!). Noe handled the tile and grout pick up when it was ready for installation day, and took care of the misc material purchases (finishing metal edge trim, tileset/cement, etc). Adrian and Luis are fantastic installers. Adrian's communication was really top notch (he kept us informed and updated often) and ran through options and recommended solutions when we encountered a bit of a snag with our subfloor and evened it out for us (we wanted to elongate and cut the corners of our rectangular entry way tile). Luis' tile work also really great. His cuts were clean, tiles were even/level, spacing of the grout lines were pretty even as well. I've had tile work done through a general contractor before (they had some rough cuts and some pretty bad tile lippage leading to uneven surfaces) - their quality is nothing compared to Luis' work, our entry way and fireplace with the herringbone pattern looks so good and it matched our mock ups very closely - they really brought our vision to reality! The three of them Noe, Adrian, and Luis really do live up to their company name as Tile Experts and they are very competitive with their pricing. You can check out the before and after photos (just ignore the ugly carpet in the pictures, we have not replaced it yet!) We are really happy and impressed with the work they did for us and would go back to them for any future tile work.

I spend more than 10k on new carpet, but new one was even worse than our 20-year old carpet from original builder that was replaced. Learn a big lesson here. don't trust the small vender. There could be an ocean between the sample they show you and the quality of final product. Go to big name like Lowe's or HD for carpet with decent quality!

The rest of our house already had some laminate wood and tile flooring which I wanted to keep. I was looking for flooring that would match the color of the laminate wood floors of our hallway and living room. Sal-Hai was recommended by a friend for flooring services. I reached out via Yelp and got a response from the owner, JP, pretty quickly. He came to San Mateo from Hayward to take a look around our house and then came back another day to bring over many samples to color match our floors. I found that to be more efficient than me going back and forth to stores like Floor and Decor and Home Depot to try and find a match myself. JP found a sample that was very close to our existing flooring so we went with that. It only took about four days for our flooring project to be finished. JP had two other workers assisting him. They ripped out all our carpet and put the flooring and baseboard in. Our master bedroom had some sloping in the floor so JP worked to level it out before putting the new flooring on top. I impressed by the speed at which our project was completed. It's been a few months and we are thoroughly enjoying our new floors! The flooring seems to be holding up well. I did notice a very minor bouncy area in our master bedroom where the floor was supposed to be leveled and told JP about it after we moved in. However I didn't get a response after I requested him to look at it. I decided we can live with it and it doesn't seem to be adversely affecting the function of our floor. The only slight con I have to mention is the logistics of scheduling our project. I had to postpone our floor installation due to delays with some other house projects (permits and inspection scheduling were at peak delays during the pandemic). I had to make many calls and send multiple emails and texts to JP before we could reschedule our project. I did appreciate that he was able to squeeze in our project in between some big commercial ones he had on his calendar. Overall I will still go back to Sal-Hai if I need future flooring services and am happy to refer him to friends! I thought the quality of work is pretty good and his rates are very reasonable for the Bay Area.
