Very disappointed. Found these guys on Yelp with good reviews. Was visiting the area and my air conditioning went out. They were nice on the phone and I got an appointment a few days later. Busy implies good, right? Left the car for the full day. I had to call several times to check on it. They never contacted me. They finally finished it almost at closing. Said there was a leak they couldn't find. They put dye in it and said to come back in a few days. I said I'm not going to be in town for another week or two. They assured me it was a slow leak and wouldn't be a problem for a while. Needless to say, I had no a/c in less than a week. Took it to a different mechanic and they had it diagnosed and fixed in less than 45 minutes. And the price was about HALF of what Matthews charged for just putting Freon in the car!! Maybe if Matthews had looked at the car earlier in the day they could have diagnosed it. I really wanted to like these folks and have a mechanic when I visit the area. Unfortunately I feel like I was an afterthought. Probably won't be back. Can not recommend. read more

Could not have been more thrilled with my experience at Matthews Auto Repair. Going to a mechanic can be intimidating, but this is a place you can trust. My father recommended them based off a coworker recommendation.If dad can't fix it.. he knows where to go! I called earlier in the week to explain my issues - weird noise coming from my tire. No sure if it was a wheel bearing. Previously, the dealership mentioned it "could" be the issue. Naturally, I've googled and youtube every car sound possible. Nothing comes up. Because, everything you read on the internet is true, right? Set up an appointment for Friday morning. They were steadily busy! Very friendly staff. Turns out, it's not a bad wheel bearing but a different issue. I was thrilled that they could figure out the noise and the quote was even better! These are honest mechanics. I've been to other name brand shops that try to up sell to very last second. You won't feel the pressure here. I could have walked out without having any work done, but I'm here and I trust them over anyone else to fix it. The waiting area has a small tv, water and free wifi! Perfect if you need to get some work done since they are only open Monday-Friday. I will definitely be back. Thank you for the wonderful service! read more

I have found a new repair shop, no more than I need repairs. I had the best, most honest experience ever at Matthews Auto Repair. A friend had recommended them previously, but I just always went to the dealer. Today, I used them for the first time and couldn't be happier. They were honest, fair, and professionally priced. I don't feel like they overcharged me, nor do I feel like the undercharged themselves, hence professionally priced. They didn't try to push me into unnecessary repairs and I felt like my safety in my car was a priority. I have never felt so comfortable or confident after an automobile repair. LIES AND OVERCHARGES AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!! I took my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee to Matthews Auto Repair in Carmel about six months ago because it was stalling while running and also having starting issues. When I first took the Jeep in and left it with them for over two weeks, after which they said they could not find the problem and that I could come pick it up as long as I paid the $150 fee for the "diagnostic". I have NO idea what "diagnostic" they ran because there was no check engine light and never had been so short of trying to drive it around to recreate the issues, they could not have really done anything. I paid them the $150 with the promise that when I brought the Jeep back I would not have to pay the "diagnostic" charge again and it would be credited to my future repair. I drove the Jeep for a few weeks and it would not start again. I had it towed to Matthews Auto Repair in Carmel to have them diagnose the problem again. After they had the Jeep for about 2 weeks, they called me very excited to tell me that, "we have FOUND the problem". They let me know that it was actually the, "Ignition Switch" which they would replace for the total of: $424.31. Oddly, there was ZERO mention of the credit of the previous "diagnostic" charge that I already paid. At this point it had been months and I was not going to quibble over $150 so I told them to fix the "Ignition Switch". They told me it would be at least 5 days to get the part so I could expect it to be at least 6-7 days before it was ready. THE NEXT DAY they called me and said the Jeep was ready to be picked up. They said they had gotten the part and it was ready to go. I went to pick it up and it started just fine. I drove it for TWO DAYS, not "several", not, "weeks", TWO DAYS, and it would not start again. When I called Matthews Auto Repair they told me, "the next guess we have is that it is the starter". First of all, I didn't agree to pay for a "guess" initially nor did I have any intention of paying for a, "guess" now. They also quoted me over $450 to replace the starter. I had already gotten 3 quotes from other shops for the starter that were all less than $350, one of which was $300. I asked why it was so much compared to other shops and considering I had just spent over $400 to fix what they thought it was, what could they do. They told me that the $450 price quote was already, "half labor"???? If that is their, "half labor" rate, I am TERRIFIED to see what it would cost to replace an $80 starter on a 20 year old vehicle at the regular rate. Needless to say, I NEVER took the Jeep Matthews Auto Repair because I had lost all confidence in their ability to diagnose and fix a problem correctly. I was never willing to throw money at guesses but that is now what they are claiming I said. I disputed the charges with the bank because their, "Ignition Switch" resolution did not work. It also troubles me that it took them only a DAY to get a part that they told me it would take 5 days to get??? Did they REALLY even replace the Ignition Switch? I have my doubts. They also told my bank that I brought the Jeep back and they diagnosed that it was the starter and that I refused the service. That is not the case. They told me their, "next guess was the starter". I will not pay for guesses. I have ZERO confidence in Matthews Auto Repair in Carmel and I would advise anyone to AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS. They have now lied to my bank, lied to me, lied about diagnosing my Jeep, and tried to over charge me for a starter I may not even need compared to other reputable shops by over $100 with their, "half labor". All for $424.31 for a fix I'm not sure they even did. I will now make it my mission to let EVERYONE I know about the lies, OVERCHARGES, and incompetence at Matthew's Auto Repair in Carmel. I am posting this review EVERYWHERE I can find and I will continue to fight with my bank unless Matthews Auto Repair Carmel does the right thing and refunds my $424.31 as they should have done when their, "repair" stopped working after 2 days!!! read more

I brought my Honda Odyssey in a week ago--it was well over a year since it had been serviced, and there were all kinds of squeaks, grunts and burps. Brad fixed it up good and I drove it home, where it sat in my garage for a few days. When we finally took it out, we noticed one small sound that was still audible. Brad asked me to drop it by, and he called me a little while later saying he had found the issue- a 5 minute fix - and wouldn't bother charging me for a simple fix. i recommend this place and agree with the other reviews regarding the team's honesty and good-heartedness. read more

I have nothing but great things to say about Matthews Auto Repair! They go above and beyond, are honest as the day is long, friendly, caring people. They've helped me out too many times with a 2002 Ford Escape that has needed repairs way too often! The first time was a squeaky-type noise that took a little while to finally get fixed, but they kept at it and wouldn't charge me until they got it right... they've helped with repairs to keep things going with less expensive options and always did their best to accommodate us. They are highly skilled technicians and are a place that I totally trust with my car repairs. I have used this place many times to fix a cursed VW that was always having some sort of random issue. These guys would always go above and beyond to repair it, including consulting with VW, to get the car working in a timely manner.
