As a woman I'm treated with respect and never talked down to; something that's sent me far away from other dealerships and repair shops over the years. On April 21, 2023, I took my car in for an A/C service. Prior to the service , I spoke with Alex regarding about the appointment; she explained it would include A/C recharge with uv dye & once it's full they will do a bench test to make ensure the compressor is working for a total of $205. She then let me know if they determine nothing is wrong with the compressor then I would need to drive it for a couple of weeks to work the uv dye through the system, bring it back and determine the source of the leak. I had this service done and my car started blowing hot air and I brought it back it on May 23, 2023. They inspected the uv dye and said it was the O-Rings that were leaking and total was $397 to fix. After leaving the shop, about 20 minutes of using A/C, it stop working. I had to bring it again on May 30, 2023. I asked them while I was dropping it off "what does this look like since it seems like there was a misdiagnosis" and Alex gave me an explanation that on the bottom of the receipt when your A/C is having issues, you may need to bring it in multiple times to find the source of the issue. I felt like that was unfair because you don't see the receipt until the end of your first service and this was not verbalized in our original conversation. it felt like she was justifying and covering in case of further issues. Alex later called saying my A/C compressor was bad. of course i was very surprised because they told me the first service was to ensure the compressor was not bad before doing further work. They quoted me $1800 for the compressor service. When I picked up my car, other staff were kind, as usual, but justified this saying "Alex shouldn't have said that" rather than owning up fully to this mistake and offering to remedy the situation outside of the $400 off. At this point it felt really frustrating they would even think I would give them further business after breaking trust like that. I took my car to another shop my family goes to (in a more expensive city for reference) and they were straight up; able to tell me immediately it was a bad compressor & said took them 20 minutes to run the test to find out it would shut off. it only cost $1000 to repair and they told me the cost of every part and labor and what i needed to ensure warranty. Mears was negligent in spending the time to diagnosis my car appropriately in the first service leading them to complete other costly repairs rather than the compressor in the first place. As a young woman this is a hard situation as it feels a company I have visited multiple times took advantage of my lack of knowledge without care of losing me as a customer. I had hoped to be refunded $600 as Mears did not fix what what was agreed upon. Before this situation I might have recommended this place but I definitely wouldn't now, especially since as a shop you have to realize how this comes off and they did not remedy the situation appropriately and they have ignored my request to remedy it as well. read more

I've used Mears twice now, once for a scheduled maintenance at 60,000 and then I decided to try them for an oil change as well. I obtained a quote for the first service and their pricing was much lower than the dealership was quoting me, and they allowed me to obtain a loaner car for the day as well, at no additional cost! I was so happy with their service, I thought I'd give them a go for the oil change. They do prefer appointments so I made one and barely had time to log on to their guest wifi and they were already done with the oil change! And, they take AAA discount! Now, I will say that the cost of the oil change is higher than what it is at the dealership due their package pricing deal, but it always takes forever when I go. These are the times I'm very grateful for Yelp reviews, because based on them, I brought my car here. I'm brand new to the area & have had a continual problem with my car pulling to the right, after tires were rotated in CA in March. Have had the car into 4 garages since then, as I was driving cross country & with the final visit, it was fine 'til a few wks ago, when it began pulling again. They fixed that easily by rotating tires again after checking a number of possible causes (no charge, btw!) & fixing my a/c, which was beginning to loose oomph, for slightly over $100. As a girl, I dislike going into garages or dealerships, either for purchasing or repairs. I have been misquoted prices or charged too much for service... ask the women in your life... we all go through this until we find a good, reputable place, which only wants to do good service to retain us as a customer. This is that place! I see others have found them as well, because as I waited a couple of hours for my car (they have free, fast WiFi & drinks), many regulars, young & old, men & women, dropped off their cars for repairs. All the employees are friendly & patient. It was a great experience & fortunately, I'll be working nearby, so will return for all my maintenance & repairs. And, next time I need new tires, I'll let them take care of it. They did a great job, when 5 other places in-between SoCal & here, didn't. Took my car in last month when it wouldn't start, and they had it fixed in a day. After I left, the check engine light came back on right after I drove off. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to take it back for about another month to get it checked out again. When I brought it back today, they immediately figured out the problem and fixed it for free and gave me a free oil change for the trouble, even though it had been a month since my last visit. I met with a few different people at the desk and they were all very friendly and helpful. They even took time to call my dad about the car issues since I didn't know much about cars. I visited Mears Carmel solely based off Yelp reviews, and I'm so happy that I did! My dad is really good with cars, so I've always had him take care of all my car-needs: changing oil, changing brakes, fixing the AC, and basically doing any other car-type thing of which I have 100% no knowledge about. But when the heat in my 2008 Jeep Liberty was barely working, and my dad tried about 8 different things to no avail, I knew that it was time to find an automotive shop. I'm glad that I found Mears. From day 1 of my heater problem, my dad told me that he really hopes that it's not the heater core. Heater cores are extremely difficult to replace, and they're also expensive. So I needed to find a shop that wasn't going to rip me off and immediately diagnose my Jeep with a dead heater core. When I showed up to Mears, Neal looked at my car and decided that the heater core might not need to be replaced. He wanted to try a few things before going that route. So I got my coolant tank (I think? I'm no car expert.) flushed. My dad already did that a few times, and it worked for a short amount of time, but I figured, "why not try that with a professional?!" A $50 fix is better than a $1050 fix. So Mears did that, and it worked for about a month. Today, as the weather got colder, my heat got a little weaker. I called to get an appointment for a darn new heater core (ugh!), and Neal offered that we try flushing it again with some more oomph this time. He really wanted to save me some money! I guarantee that most places would just be like, "Uh yeah - 100% this is a heater core problem. That'll be $1500." No questions asked. But this place truly just wants to fix your car and make you happy. Even if I eventually need a new heater core, I'm going to be a Mears customer for life. I trust them, and trust is hard to come by. (Especially when you're a female that clearly knows nothing about cars!) ***Side-note: I told Neal that my dad previously worked on my Jeep before I brought it to Mears. When I asked Neal for an explanation of what he thought was wrong with my Jeep, he explained it to me in easy-to-understand terms, he drew me a little picture of what he thinks the problem is (for my dad to see), and he even told me to have my dad call him if he wanted more information! And my car's been fixed right the first time, every time. When I needed a new set of tires, I got them from Mears. Not only was the price competitive, but it included a front-end alignment! Wow! Before Mears I've taken this car to two different dealerships for service and repairs. Not only was it expensive, but I usually had to take it back more than once to get the job done right. I have a highly modified '10 Honda Accord coupe and it's tough to find a shop one can trust when they require a place that can properly work on lowered vehicles. Joe and his technicians have done amazing work on my vehicle the past three years. I have searched around Indianapolis and gone to various places for alignments and custom work and after finding Carmel Auto & Truck Svc Cntr , there is honestly no need to search further. Joe always offers a ride back to my work or house if need be, has up front prices, great per hour labor rates and I'd have no qualms about bringing a high end car here either...I've seen the work they did on a RS6 Audi and it was extensive and thorough...through and through. Although it's easy to simply go to a dealership with a newer car, the way your car is treated matters..and from what I've seen, Joe's staff treats your vehicle like it's their own. I've seen way too many errors coming out of the stealership service bays, requiring multiple trips to fix an issue. Never once has that happened here. I will start by saying I am not an automotive expert, but I went with my husband who knows a good amount about cars. This place gave us a same day appointment for a full inspection with the goal of fixing whatever needed fixing, as we are planning to sell our car. They very honestly went through the items that "must be fixed" for safety reasons and others that we "could but don't truly need it." I really appreciated that they went through and explained their rationale rather than saying everything has to be done and it costing thousands of dollars. Although it was Kevin, not Joe at the counter (apparently the place changed owners), service was just as good as other reviewers previously had here. I dropped the car off in the morning - without an appointment - they diagnosed and fixed the problem, and the car was ready for pick up shortly after 5PM. Prices were reasonable, Kevin was friendly and he explained what work was done on the car.
