Stay away from Matthews Jewelers! Not only at E they overpriced, but rude as well! My late husband bought me an expensive necklace there. I never told him it wasn't my taste, so I wore it twice. After he passed, I decided to take it back to Matthews, NOT FOR A REFUND, but to exchange it for something I would actually love. I was told NO. It was old jewelry and they would not exchange it. It was in mint condition and there was one in the showcase selling for $1500, exactly like it. My only option, they said, was to redesign it, thus making more money. So I went to Zargon jewelers where they have a visible sign that clearly states that they do not refund, but will gladly exchange. They were so friendly and helpful and worked something out that was more than to my satisfaction. Matthews is an overpriced rip off! Stay away! read more

I got scammed. I was thinking about buying a ring from a seller directly, who had me meet her at Matthew's Jewelers. She knew the guy, Alan. We were hoping for a quick evaluation of whether the ring is real. He looked at her ring and said: "That's a phenomenal price" as a response to her answer to his question about how much she was asking. Her price was $800. She claimed the ring was a "hybrid diamond" and Alan said he would have to do some research to learn about that. Instead of coming right out and saying the ring was a cubic zirconia, he wanted to get $125 to appraise the ring. When I inquired about the value of the ring without the stone, he said that the seller would be coming out on the short end of the stick if she sold it that way. So I bought the ring for $700. Then re-entered the store to upgrade and apply the delta toward a new ring. But then he evaluated the value of the ring without the stone and said about $125. What??!!! It was clear his interest was in favor of the seller because he was hoping she would buy one of the rings she was having them pull out to look at. When I addressed the owner about the issue, he told me "shame on you" for buying the ring from her and that it was not his problem. What ass holes these guys are. Don't trust them to sell you a ring!!! Go to another store!!! read more

I have been a customer at Matthews for as long as I can remember but it's not the same as it used to be. I took in a few pieces I wanted to sell some items for scrap gold. It took almost 2 weeks before anyone got back to me. When they did it was incorrect. I had called and they didn't do what I asked and had the estimate done on the wrong pieces. I had dropped off a second piece I found 2 days later and they hadn't even looked at it. The owner offered no explanation or apology. I just took the things back and left. I walked into this establishment to look at rings for my fiancée and I. I was greeted (kind of ) by an employee, who I won't mention names... she was incredibly rude and dismissive. I was absolutely blown away by the way I was treated. I showed her a picture of the ring I was interested in and her response was "do you know what size that ring is?". When I first set out with my fiance to buy engagement rings, I didn't know what to expect. I usually don't enjoy shopping too much because of pushy salesmen and a tendency to feel overwhelmed by the picking process. This was exactly what I was confronted with when I began the search for "my ring." I was also underwhelmed by the generic selections available and became frustrated as my enthusiasm began to dwindle. Luckily, my fiance found Matthew's Jewellers after searching online. From the moment we set foot inside the store I knew we had found the place for us. We were warmly greeted by Rich Loebl who then took us on a very enthusiastic tour of the facility. It really is so much more than a jewelry store. He explained their custom fabrication process from start to finish, showing us the various rooms and tools necessary to take a design from idea to reality. We then went over to the the bridal case where he gave us an extensive education on diamonds, from the various differences in standards to the importance of buying GIA certified stones. He then showed us all the engagement rings available in his display, which were all different than what I'd seen in other stores so far but still not quite my taste (although they were LOVELY). We decided to go with the custom design process, which I found extremely exciting and fun. I drew up a couple sketches on my own and got to actually see their CAD designer rough out some ideas for me on the computer. There is really something to be said about knowing that you are the only person who has YOUR ring, as it's a symbol of YOUR love. I can not say enough good things about my experience with Matthew's Jewellers. At no point did I feel like we were a sale that needed to be closed; we were taken care of with an abundance of patience and attention that I am so very thankful for, and I am absolutely overjoyed with the beautiful piece they created for me. I found Matthew's Jewelers while looking for a place to get my 30 year old Cartier watch fixed. It had some water under the face and was no longer keeping perfect time. I called several other jewelry stores in the area, including the Cartier store, and learned it would take most two weeks just to give me a quote of what it would cost to repair my watch. Repairs would likely take 2-3 months from there. When I called Matthew's Jewelry, I was thrilled to learn they are located close to my home in Plantation and that their watch expert would be in that same day. I got an estimate within just a couple days (it was 1/2 of what Weston's Jeweler wanted and 1/4 of what Cartier quoted me) and a promise my watch would be restored to all its glory within 2 weeks. When I picked it up, I found Matthew's delivered on their promise and big time. My watch has been keeping perfect time for the last 2 months without any issue. It was only later that I noticed their billboards in Fort Lauderdale and on the highway and realized that I appreciate Matthew's politics as well. The jeweler responded to my initial review and posted a picture of the rendering. The band I received was crooked and looks nothing like the rendering. I thought possibly we missed the crookedness on the rendering since we were focusing on the halo as explained in the initial review, but it looks like the rendering was not crooked at all. So, we did not receive what we had approved. Even worse. The jeweler stated the crookedness is due to wear and tear. Both sides of the band are equally crooked inverted copies. Not possible to be wear and tear as the jeweler exclaims. It is possible for you to be wrong, Matthew's Jewelers. Why not apologize instead of trying to make the customer look wrong? read more

A year ago, I lost my wedding band and after much discussion as to whether we should get new bands for our upcoming 15th anniversary, we decided, instead, to have the original ring remade using my wife's ring as the template. We had used these rings in our first Commitment Ceremony in 2001 and, also, in our "legal" (finally!) marriage ceremony. What first attracted us to Matthews Jewelers was their bold billboards featuring same sex couples. However, once I met with them, the talented and professional staff closed the sale. It was wonderful not to feel awkward when explaining that I needed a ring to match my wife's ring when we were clearly two women. We were promised that the ring would be ready in time for our anniversary, but they were ready a week early! The new ring is absolutely beautiful. You cannot tell which ring is the original "refurbished" one and the new one. We are thrilled with our rings! When you go there, have them give you a tour of their work area, where the magic happens. EXTREMELY ACCOMODATING :) I found Matthews in my search for bench jewelers who will do a handmade engagement ring for my girlfriend (now fiancé!). I came in with VERY specific ideas of how I wanted the ring to look and Rich Loebl and his team were as accommodating as possible at every turn. Even though they have beautiful diamonds in store, they allowed me to source the diamond stone for the ring from another provider that I had sought out for personal reasons. Then, they helped me to find very rare and difficult to find peach sapphires for the accent stones. They must have contacted 20 providers and struck out before finally finding someone who could cut the sapphires small enough. Finally, they put this all together into a handmade setting exactly to the spec of my design that I had only described verbally. Pretty impressive! No words can do justice to the experience I had there, but I will try first by saying that I will never go anywhere but here for jewelry ever again. In February 2015, I lost my childhood dog who was so much more than just a pet. After years of battling cancer, and surviving emergency surgeries and complications, my Makena lost her battle tragically and very unexpectedly. I had paw print molds and her ashes, but I still felt like I needed something more. My dog had been my shadow, always by my side. I needed a way to have her with me all the time again. Makena had a beautiful BB Simon pink Swarovski crystal dog collar that she wore like a princess for years. I decided to see if it was possible to get the stones made into a piece of jewelry. As a wedding planner, I had seen Matthew's Jewelers rings almost weekly, and decided to see why they were so popular among clients. I read through reviews that seemed too good to be true... a 5 star rating... by EVERYONE?! What's the catch? I sent an email with my backstory, asking if they did custom jewelry. Andrea responded promptly, thoroughly, and with pictures of her own dogs. That almost sealed the deal right there. To know my dog's collar would be in the hands of fellow dog lovers meant so much to me. I walked into the store on St. Patrick's Day, and was delighted to see how festive it was decorated. Val greeted me with a smile, asking how she could help. After giving her some of my information, she introduced me to the owner, Mark, who had already printed out my email and pictures. We spent almost an hour going over how I wanted the jewelry pieces to look (I decided to do both a ring and necklace). Mark and Val asked questions about details like how long I wanted the chain to hang, how tiny I wanted the prongs, how wide I wanted the heart, what style band I wanted... they were genuinely taking an interest and care in my ideas. Having Mark up front with us, walking through each and every detail, was a nice reminder that I, as a customer, was still important enough for the store owner to meet with. The longer I was there, the more comfortable I felt that Matthew's Jewelers would be designing my custom pieces. Val could truly see how special the collar was to me. She treated it with care and she packaged it up, and Mark even verified that I knew the process to remove the stones might result in having to cut small portions out. Since I was there to have a piece done in memory of my dog, it was extra special to have Taz and Fisbo (the store dogs) there. Not even 2 weeks after drop off, I got the call that my jewelry was ready. Val remembered me, and opened the boxes to I could see the finished product... and I lost it. I cried tears of happiness as I could barely muster, "It's SO pretty!" through sobs. The necklace was PERFECT. More perfect than the picture we used as a sketch, more perfect than what I had envisioned... it was flawless. I was shaking so badly that I could barely put the ring on. I couldn't get over how shiny it was, and kept staring at it from different angles while moving my fingers up and down. Mark even came out from the back to see my reaction. I'm so glad I finally got to meet Andrea that day, who made this all happen. I hugged her and cried, and thanked everyone who had helped in making the custom jewelry. Losing my dog was like losing a part of myself, and to have a piece of jewelry that brings her close to me again.... that's indescribable. I have not taken off my ring since I got it. I find myself telling friends and family, "Look at my ring in this light", "Look at my ring under water", "Look at my ring while I hold my coffee". I'm quite possibly obsessed. This place rocks. As I walked through the door, I met Rich Loebl, who is a very attractive man and delightful to boot. He welcomed me warmly and as we went over the issues with my broken necklace and earrings , he devoted 100% of his attention to these things and explained all the very reasonable charges involved. He told me that Matthew's makes all of their own jewelry and he offered to give me a tour of the store's facilities. I felt like a VIP! He explained the entire process of designing and manufacturing a piece of jewelry and showed me each work space where these things take place. Then, I walked around the store and looked in all the cases. Very impressive indeed. Rich told me that customers are so happy with this store that they become customers for life. Wow, I knew Mark would reply to my review...He is trying to make everyone believe that it was all my fault that I was the one yelling on the phone! I was at work in a crowded office when we spoke. Not once did I raise my voice to him or yell at him, yes I did try to argue my point, but he shut that down real fast. Readers you should not go to Matthews Jewelers, you would be better off going to a large jeweler where you have customer service, and more recourse if something is not to your liking, and not where an owner of a company would treat customers the way I was treated. Every experience I've ever had with this jewelry store has been top notch. They added 10 smaller diamonds to my engagement ring for my 10th anniversary. You would never know this was something that was done 10 years after the original ring was made. They then appraised the ring for me at 3 x's the original price we paid - nice work! It's simply stunning. I've also had them repair a Rolex watch and never felt like I couldn't trust them with my expensive time piece. Last year, for my birthday, I came over to see if there was anything I might like that my husband could purchase for me. I had a lot of fun drinking champagne and talking to Mark, who's always been so helpful, and found a pair of earrings that I loved and wear all the time.
