I think they have valet, but there's also free street parking and a little lot across the street. But definitely plan to come a little early to find a spot if you have a reservation. The service really is top tier. All the workers were super friendly and super helpful. I haven't had too much experience with fine dining, but I was taken aback and impressed that they even gave me a little side table to put my purse on. And the food itself is really delicious! Starting off with the bread and butter, I'm kind of sad they only gave us one piece each, but I also know if they gave us more, I would have gotten full off of that alone. You get to pick what kind of bread you want from a selection of focaccia, ciabatta, etc. And they're so soft but with a good chew. The butter was also so good. It was super olive oil forward, so it really reminded me of like the bread and olive oil with spices you get at other spots. But solid version of that, while still being super soft and spreadable. I was also super impressed with the hokkaido scallops. Not only were the scallops huge, but it was perfectly cooked all the way through. Matthew's is one of my favorite restaurants in town! Definitely call ahead and let them know if you're having a special event because they will make sure you feel extra special. Reservations aren't required but helpful. The bar area is pretty casual so if you just feel like popping in because you're in the neighborhood but you're not sure if you're dressed well enough... like you can totally stop in and hang in there because their espresso martinis are one of my favorites! And their happy hour is definitely the best time go. We normally go for the different Chef's tasting adventures which are coursed out meals with or without wine pairings... Just because it's fun to be surprised and try new things sometimes. They try to accommodate all allergies and you can always order things "on the side" if you're not sure about it which I love because I can be picky... sometimes ;) If I order off the menu, I normally order either their seasonal preparation of the scallops or the aged steak because the toppings and salts that come with their steak are amazing! And if you only order one thing on their menu... make sure it's the souffle! Their souffle is always cooked perfectly to order no matter what flavor they are serving and the creme anglaise that they always serve it with is so silky and completes it just perfectly. We went to Matthew's for a special family occasion. I chose this restaurant as it is one of the best in Jax in my humble opinion. Street parking is tight so we used the valet parking option. We were greeted by name from the valet all the way to our waitstaff. We appreciated the extra special touches for service including the bread selection, butter with olive oil and pink salt, selection of citrus slices for our glasses of water. The drink menu was extensive. The food was expertly made and portion sizes were perfect. Dessert was decadent. We liked the upscale vibe of the restaurant with view of the kitchen. I highly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion for an intimate dinner where you want to impress your guest(s). Amazing fine dining experience in Jax! Just moved here from GNV so excited by all of the food options. I tried the beet salad, the charred eggplant, and the fish of the day was a halibut. I ordered a side of scallops just to try them and they were delicious. Every bite of each dish was great, and the service was next level. Mah Wife got me the most excellent early Christmas gift tonight: a 6-course Chef's Adventure tasting menu dinner at Matthew's Restaurant in the San Marco neighborhood (@dinematthews). I had no idea what the menu would be; we just sat back, relaxed, enjoyed each other's company, and let the chef and staff take care of us for a couple of hours. This menu took us on a wonderful journey through land and sea, sweet and savory. From service to final presentation, everything was thoughtful and intentional; each course building on the previous. Early courses were light and delicate, middle courses dove into the deep end of umami, until finally, a sweet finish. So without further adieu, the six courses: 1. Crispy Jasmine rice crisp topped with crab salad, tomato jam, and lemon vinaigrette 2. U8 Maine diver scallop, green apple sphere, chestnut Velouté, maple syrup drizzle 3. He is absolutely fabulous. I told him I was going to rave about him on my review so here it is. Our meal was delicious, all six courses; plus an order of escargot was added because it is always prepared very tastefully. The sea bass had an edge on the chop. The fish was soft and flakey and we paired it with caviar. The perfect bite was the fish, puree, broccolini and a bit of caviar on top. The chop was cooked well but could do without the jam topping. We also had a side of the Brussel sprouts which was crispy and delicious. We ended the evening with their soufflé. For Valentines this year, we chose to return to Matthew's for the first time in many years. To make it special we decided to go for the 6 course Chef's tasting menu, which I understand changes weekly. We started with a smoked Old Fashioned and a glass of Prosecco, but didn't include the wine pairings since previous experiences with multi-course dinners has left us with an opinion that a different wine with each course tends to detract from the food experience - and we are all about the food. For this particular date, the first course was an amuse bouche - a mutli-ingredient mix of seafood and seasonings that was perfectly balanced. Next came Maine Diver Scallops, perfectly seared and served on a curry with just a little heat. The pasta course was of course house made pasta with a braised pork shoulder sauce and topped with goat cheese. Surprisingly, the goat cheese made the entire dish exceptional. Main course was an Australian Wagyu Ribeye steak on a tomato based ratatouille. While it was perfectly cooked and tender, I still don't perceive anything very special about Wagyu every time I have had it in various restaurants. Finally for dessert there was a vanilla bread pudding with creme anglaise and cream cheese. As expected, Matthew's delivered a an excellent food and service experience. If you can afford a meal that will come in north of $300 for 2 people on a special occasion, the experience is worth it. read more
