This was our second time dining at Matthew's Steakhouse, and while our overall experience was good, it unfortunately didn't live up to our first visit. The food was good overall, but we were disappointed with a couple of things this time around. The mussels appetizer was underwhelming and not nearly as enjoyable as we expected. My husband also ordered a specific steak size, but the portion he received was noticeably smaller than what he had ordered. The atmosphere and service were nice, and there were certainly things we enjoyed about the meal. However, Matthew's is a very pricey steakhouse, and at this price point, we expect the food and portions to be consistently excellent. We enjoyed our first visit much more, so we were hoping for the same experience this time. We chose the bread service and the pumpkin seed pesto is packed with flavor. We got the 12oz steak with the baked potato and broccoli and added the 2 grilled colossal shrimp. For years I've wanted to try this place, even before they changed ownership, so when we couldn't get an early Valentine's reservation at Eddie V's we decided to finally try it. It's a cute little place in DWG. We dined here a few days before Valentine's (it was also a belated birthday dinner) and the place was pretty empty. We were sat in a corner between the wall and window, which was a little annoying with much nicer tables available. We decided to go all out and try a bunch since this was our first time and a celebration. For appetizers we did the beet & burrata salad and the bread service with ricotta. The salad was ok- honestly nothing that stood out in comparison to having burrata dishes and other restaurants. The bread was very buttery but a bit hard. The pesto really was delicious, the ricotta was pretty good. For entrees we shared the ribeye (with added red wine reduction) and upgraded our side to the risotto. We also added on the two scallops and a side of mushrooms. The steak was cooked very nicely and had a great flavor- although a bit too much salt. The risotto had a nice texture and the scallops were tasty, although again, no wow factor and not worth $27. The mushrooms were not what we expected at all. We thought they'd be the fancy wild mushrooms, but they were more portobello or large mushrooms cut into large slices and the sauce was like an A-1/Worcestershire sauce. We had asked for them with the truffle sauce and was told that was the truffle sauce, but it was very sour and we think it was actually the red wine sauce because on the side was a thicker sauce that didn't taste anything like red wine reduction and had the texture of mushrooms inside. This thicker sauce was way better and what we used on the steak, so I'm not sure what it was, but would never order the mushrooms again - and I love mushrooms. For dessert we tried the cheesecake, which again for the price was pretty small. It was good, but have had much better (and bigger) at another local place. The cocktails were ok- the hotworxx was not spicy (which I liked) but still wasn't something I'd get again. My partner tried both the Vibes and the LiveTrends, and he preferred the vibes. With dessert I ordered the Swalty as I thought it was going to be creamy and heavy - so more for dessert. The vodka was so overpowering and it was not creamy or sweet at all. Honestly, wouldn't recommend this. Overall, the dinner was a bit underwhelming and nothing wowed here. It felt pricey to be pricey, not because it should be. The service was OK, they didn't do anything for my birthday or for our Valentine's celebration, so if you are looking for that, it's not here. I think if we returned we would probably sit at the bar and just get some wine and their charcuterie board, which looked great in reviews. Not sure this is the place for cocktails. Five-star service! I can't rave enough about this place! The entire experience was top-notch, thanks in large part to the amazing staff--especially Devin. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the various wines and steaks, and his pairing suggestions were spot on. Devin was also extremely pleasant and made sure we never felt rushed. The atmosphere is exceptional--this place is more than just a restaurant, it's an experience. I highly recommend trying the 18-ounce ribeye and the lollipop lamb chops--the red wine reduction sauce was hands down the best I've ever had. The staff was also very accommodating when it came to food allergies and preferences. We're currently following a carnivore diet, and they made it so easy for us. Very simply put, that was the best ribeye steak I have had in at least 5 years - and I have had a lot of great steaks during that time across the US and in Europe. Family run restaurant and they take great care of you. Very good menu. Baked potato was excellent and they serve a top-notch classic wedge salad. The salad is so big that I took half to go home with me. I actually ate it for breakfast the next morning which is not something I've ever been tempted to do. My bartender/waiter was Nicole and she was absolutely delightful. Like all great waiters, she had that natural ability to know when to be friendly and chatty and when to let me eat in peace. Once we steeped inside the restaurant, it was so elegant, and dimly lit. The indoor seating is classy and romantic, perfect for an anniversary dinner or date night. So first I want to the ambience was amazing, the decor, the music felt very relaxing and just a nice dinner setting! The waiter was nice and friendly and there would only be one very small nitpicking complaint that I will say later. The lamb lollipops were cooked well and a must get, personally I felt they put too much sauce on them, but they were still very good and I would get them again. My wife loved the sauce that there was so much sauce. The steaks were cooked perfectly, but you would definitely have to like that char taste if you were to love them. I enjoyed it but I am not a fan of that char taste if it overwhelms everything else. But it was still very good. The shrimp were also very good! As for nitpicking, overall it was a nice evening and the food was food but I will always compare it to other places, and for the price vs quality it is on the higher end. Not terribly priced but definitely overpriced for places that have steak that would blow it away. Kres has a 12 oz for $62 and it is melt in your mouth cut with a butter knife, this was 10 oz for $74 and you're not cutting it with a butter knife. Also, my very small complaint is the waiter did not tell me my drink cost per drink for a simple coke, not only that but they fill the entire thing with ice so in 2 gulps it's gone and it's $6 dollars per drink! So I guess I was shocked when the bill came. So they should let you know it's per drink, or at least give you a cup of ice and a full drink with it... But it was a good restaurant that I am glad we tried and I would overall recommend because of the ambience and decent food, but being in this area there a ton of steakhouses to try so not sure when we will be back. read more

We had our annual Christmas dinner at Matthew's and it was amazing. Great ambiance. Bread was to die for. We all split Wedge salads and it was plenty to share. We all had steak and there were audible groans of pleasure from everyone with each bite. The outer crusted part of the steak with melt in your mouth inside was amazing. We shared mushrooms, asparagus, broccoli, and peppers. All perfect! We paired everything with a wonderful Italian red. Truly great dinner for our small financial firm of 3 and spouses. Unfortunately, I feel compelled to leave a one-star review due to a very serious health and safety concern. I suffer from a severe peanut and tree nut allergy. The menu described the cheese board as "an array of cheeses, local honey, and crackers" ($32). There was no mention of tree nuts or potential nut-containing ingredients. However, when the board arrived at our table, it included visible tree nuts and berries. This information was not disclosed on the menu, and the server did not ask whether anyone at the table had food allergies before the dish was served. Had the menu clearly stated that nuts were included, or had we been asked about allergies, we would not have ordered this item. After noticing the nuts on the board, I immediately informed the server that the menu did not disclose their presence. She then advised me not to eat the crackers because the box indicated they "contain nuts." Unfortunately, this was communicated after I had already eaten some of the crackers. At that point, the dish should have been immediately removed from the table and replaced to eliminate any risk of cross-contamination. Shortly after, I began experiencing throat irritation. I did not have my EpiPen with me, which made the situation even more frightening. Once I returned home, I had to take Benadryl as a precaution. This was our first visit, and the experience was extremely disappointing, not only from a service standpoint but more importantly from a safety standpoint. Nut allergies are not minor dietary preferences; they can cause life-threatening anaphylaxis. I have personally lost a family member to an allergic reaction caused by trace nut contamination. This is not hypothetical; it is very real. For the safety of your guests, I strongly urge you to take the following steps: Train all servers to proactively ask about food allergies before orders are placed. Update your menu to clearly disclose the presence of nuts and potential cross-contamination risks, especially for items like the cheese board and packaged crackers. These are simple but critical actions that protect your customers and your business. It would be unfortunate to see a charming establishment face serious consequences over something that can be corrected with proper disclosure and training. My husband and I decided to try Matthew's Steakhouse for Valentines Day and they did not disappoint! The outside of the building is stunning with the live fire on the sconces. Upon walking in, the hostess was very friendly and showed us to our table. The restaurant is very small, and can only accommodate roughly 10-12 small parties at a time. To drink, I ordered a glass of Be Wise Wisdom, which is one of my favorite reds. For appetizer, we ordered the mussels in white wine sauce. Our server recommended for us remove all of the mussels from the shells and mix around in the white wine sauce to fully taste the flavor of the sauce. His recommendation was on point! The mussels were delicious and the bread to dip in the white wine sauce was delightful as well. For entree, my husband and I both ordered the 6oz filets. My husband ordered his rare with the baked potato and red wine peppercorn sauce on the side. I ordered my steak medium rare with the risotto and scallops on the side. The steaks came out beautifully cooked, and the food runner even asked us to cut into them before she left the table to ensure they were cooked to our liking (every steak restaurant should be doing this!! A wine off-menu was recommended to us and I cannot express how outstanding the Cab Sav was. The label was Elyse and what a wonderful wine. Each wine on the list seemed to have an interesting back story. I wish I heard them all! For an appetizer we shared the drunken mussels. If you enjoy mussels, these are a must have. They were perfectly cooked and the broth was other worldly! For dinner, I had the 6oz filet and my husband had the ribeye. Steaks we're both perfectly cooked. Both steaks came with a roasted garlic and rosemary butter (LOVED) and a salted butter. You also have a baked potato and sour cream. Although we were totally stuffed, can't leave without dessert. One of my favorites is a tiramisu so I had to have it. I made sure to take a picture so you can see in the cross section that every lady finger is soaked in espresso! I can't stand a tiramisu that's dry. Loved the tiramisu and would recommend it to others. We ate every bite. I would absolutely come back and recommend Matthew's. It is well appointed. Tables have linen tablecloths and napkins. Nicole was our server. She was excellent. The manager stopped by our table at least twice to check on us. For starters we had the grilled peppers and the bread service. The grilled peppers were covered with a tasty parmesan crema. The bread was toasted and seasoned and included small sides of olives and pesto. For entrees we had strip steak and branzino. We had the mushroom medley side. This is a good steakhouse to visit if you're looking for an original steakhouse experience. It's not a picturesque or instagram worthy place, but the food, service, and ambiance are really good. I had the salmon, as I don't eat meat and I enjoyed it. My friend has the chicken dish and was a little disappointed because it was fried and smothered. Fresh crisp wedge salads, perfectly seared tender large scallops with white truffle thyme butter, nice crunch on the grilled asparagus but the star of the menu are the 4 choices of steak cooked to order on an open well ventilated grill of intense heat and flame perfect for Pittsburgh style heavy char and rare juicy meat - at $65 for a 16oz ribeye it was cooked to perfection. I had to complement the top-notch grill man! Most mediocre reviews were mainly from old vs new owners (who were wonderful and inviting) and I think just out of sticker shock on pricing looking for things to complain about like plating and limited options but limitations here allows them to focus on fresh and high quality items. This restaurant is dark and intimate with tables lit by flickering candles. It was so romantic for a date night celebration with my boo. He truly enjoyed the steak and finished his whole plate before we could remember to take pictures. The lollipop lamb chops are the perfect appetizer and so unique. I've never tried lamb in a red wine reduction like this and the chefs killed it with this recipe! The lamb was not too gamey and the meat tasted so high quality. The almalfi coast inspired grilled shrimp were so yummy with a nice smoky taste from the fire and a citrusy finish. The baked potato side is served with a luxurious whipped butter and normal butter as well as sour cream. I barely finished my potato and was stuffed. We still had enough to take home and enjoy later, everything was so filling and rich. I MUST recommend the Italian Prosecco "Giavi" it is so crisp and refreshing, we would have ordered a whole bottle if we had more people with us. Each dish is perfectly cooked and well made. I recently dined at Matthew's for a large group dinner. We were pleasantly surprised as guests that they were able to accommodate a group of almost 30 people!! The restaurant is reservations only as well. Parking at the restaurant was a little tricky. There are available lots and garages, but we happen to come the same day as another event downtown, which made finding a place to park a tad bit more difficult. No valet was offered either. Based on other reviews, I think this was more of a unique experience, even members of our party mentioned that parking isn't usually that bad. Upon arriving and getting initial drinks and apps the servers were very good! Because of our party size, we had multiple servers assisting us. They were very kind and welcoming. The restaurant itself is smaller, but has a cozy feel to it! We had to preselect our entree prior to the event, but we noticed that the entrees were not confirmed with anyone, and those of us that ordered steak, were never asked what temperature we wanted it cooked at. I personally prefer my steaks more well, and when my (very little) steak came out it was charred on the outside but rare on the inside. A lot of people in the group got the steak, and each steak was cooked differently. There was little consistency on size and the temperature (rare, medium, or well) of the steaks being served. It took sending it back multiple times to get it cooked appropriately, but the servers and manager were very patient and understanding to those of us who had to send our steaks back to get refired. I know it would have been a little more work upfront, but had the servers come to confirm everyone's entrees and the temperature they wanted their steaks at, this easily could have been avoided and would have made the dining experience much more enjoyable. The food was really good (once everything was cooked more appropriately)! Portions were on the smaller side, but everything we had was tasty!! I think one of my favorite things of the meal was the garlic butter that was served with the steak, truly so yummy!! Incredible experience. The service (Nicole) was gracious, cheerful, informative and attentive. The food (lamb chops, shrimp, beet salad, risotto) were top notch. Two of the lamb chops were a bit overdone but the other attributes of the meal and atmosphere made up for it. The owners (Eddie and Chystal) took a few moments and we enjoyed a tableside chat with them. The wine and meal were not cheap but on par with other places and here you actually got good value for your money. We had an exceptional experience at Matthews in downtown Winter Garden. If you are familiar with Winter Garden, it is an already beautiful place with a quaint downtown, and Matthews steakhouse embodies that personality within their restaurant. To start, yes it is on the pricier side but I think overall the quality justifies the price. We had a large table and overall the ordered food was primarily steak or scallops. However we also had the bread to start with which was great. The scallops were the best thing that we shared. A vibrant seasoning and taste and they were cooked perfectly, my only note would be that I wish the side broccoli wasn't big pieces. The steak was ordered medium rare but came out cooked more than that and was a bit inconsistent throughout. I think almost all of the steaks were slightly cooked for too long. However it was also well seasoned and had a good flavor and the potato and butter that came with it was extremely good. The wine list had a ton of variety and options from premiere locations all over the world and the French red that we had went quite nicely with our dishes. My only note for this place would be that if you do go, just make sure to get your steak cooked how you'd like. We had 2 steaks cooked a bit over done so we didn't want to request a fix but I would recommend checking it when they are brought out. Lastly to end on a positive note, the service was phenomenal. We were catered to our every question and need and the waiter was fun and had solid recommendations. First time here... We met the owners tonight and their passion alone makes me want to come back! I ordered a 10oz filet Pittsburgh rare. This is a difficult style to perfect but i felt mine was fantastic!! The baked potato was outstanding along with the asparagus. The ambiance here is amazing! MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT: Once the bill came I noticed they charged me for 2 sangrias and 2 mocktails when I only had 1 of each. Also, as I was about to sign I noticed a 3% surcharge for credit cards. For one, I find it extremely tacky for an upscale restaurant to charge a surcharge, but also I used a debt card. I informed the waitress I used a debit card and requested the charge to be taken off but she refused saying their system automatically charges it as credit and it's hardwired in the system. I just find it tacky to use hoops to charge your customers the fee you should be paying yourself especially when your food is already slightly overpriced. Our bill was already over $1,000. Then as I looked at the receipt further they added on a 22% gratuity which is fine; even thought he service didn't justify it... but they charged the 22% to the total AFTER tax. The tip should apply only for my food not the tax. So tip came out to be over 30% plus a 3% surcharge. It just felt shady and a way to nickel and dime your customers. Also, there is no clear signage at the door or entrance about the surcharge and I'm not even sure what they are doing is legal or just tacky. I won't be going back. It was a huge turn off to me and l will be disputing the charges. Had a reservation for 8:30. Walked in and the restaurant was not busy yet they didn't have our table ready. The restaurant is small so there was nowhere to wait for our table. It was December and a cold front so the last thing we wanted to do was wait outside and shiver. When our table was ready they sat us at the table right by the door. Being that the restaurant is small, we were so close to the door the last person seated at the table could open the door without getting up. Being that it was a colder night every time someone entered or exited the restaurant the entire table was hit with a cold breeze. Even if it wasn't cold if someone came in for a reservation they would crowd our table standing if they had to wait. Food was okay but for an upscale steakhouse but a plain baked potato is a lacking choice for a side. Had dinner the day after Christmas while visiting family in Winter Garden. The service was excellent. The dining atmosphere and ambiance were perfect. Members of our party had steaks, and one person had the Branzino. The steak was the best I have had. Both entrees were outstanding. I want to give 4 stars, but for West Orlando - it is 6 stars! They are still figuring out what they are - but our evening at Matthew's was the best meal West of 429 I have had in years. Steak was terrific. Parmesan crust addition was excellent. Lamb chops were best in the city. Mushrooms and risotto sides were excellent. Bread service had to ordered (???) but was very, very good. Beet and Burrata salad - excellent. Mussels - divine. Wine selection was eclectic but the two we ordered were great. The pricing was very high for a premium steakhouse let alone one in downtown Winter Garden. Must be some serious rent. Wasn't as crowded as it should have been as it is the only premium steakhouse within what 15 miles?!?! Ambiance was fine. A little warm but that could be the open kitchen. Terrific but overpriced food. Given that we didn't have a 30 minute commute to Eddie Vs or Capital Grille - one could argue it is worth it. WG desperately needs quality restaurants like Matthew's. For starters, the ambiance is just right. It is absolutely immaculate inside... the lighting is perfect, the stemware glistens on each table. Our bartender, Monroe, was delightful. She made great recommendations and great conversation. The owners were absolutely fantastic. Eddie and Chystal greeted us warmly. Eddie is the chef and a sommelier. He checked on us twice during our meal to ensure that the steak was going to be cooked exactly to our liking. Our meal was out of this world! We had a wonderful time getting to know Chystal. This is a locally owned steakhouse in the heart of Winter Garden. We had reservations for 5 pm to celebrate birthdays and promotions. Initial thoughts upon walking in is it is crisp, clean and modern. Service was absolutely wonderful. We had the pleasure of meeting several of the staff including the manager and owner, Eddie. The menu is small which isn't always a bad thing. They do not have a liquor license which was a little disappointing, i wish we had known ahead of time. The steaks are cooked fresh to order on the open concept grill. The food was fine, slightly bland in my opinion and lacking character for the price. Cook on the steaks was slightly off but they were quick to correct which we appreciated. Peach burratta was super tasty but felt overpriced for 7 peach slices and a ball of cheese. Scallops were wonderful, I wish I had ordered them. Overall it's a nice establishment but for the prices I was left wishing for more flavor and character. read more

Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend this place based on our recent visit. We had a reservation and were seated promptly, but the table we were given was in the very back corner, squeezed up against a refrigerator. It felt like a last-minute addition--the table was extremely long--which made it difficult for my husband and me to converse or even sit comfortably. Several other tables were open nearby, so we asked to switch, but the hostess declined, citing an incoming large party. Oddly, the table remained empty the entire time we were there. It took about 10 minutes before anyone greeted us. I ordered a dirty martini with bleu cheese-stuffed olives, but the server responded with, "Which tequila?" I clarified that I wanted vodka, but the drink that arrived was both clear and unpleasantly sweet--not at all a proper dirty martini. I asked for a side of olive juice, hoping to fix it, but it didn't help. I let the server know the drink was bad, and while they did replace it, the second one was no better. To their credit, they removed it from the bill. The food was decent, but my steak, ordered medium rare, came out rare. At that point, I had already brought up several issues and didn't feel like saying anything else. I will say our server was very friendly and was trying his best. All in all, the experience was disappointing, and we won't be returning. read more
