When we just can't decide what to have for dinner and don't feel like going out, Mattina's is first on our list of who to call. Usually within 30 minutes we have a pizza sitting on our table. Got the large pizza and 12 wings for dinner. 8.5/10 for sure on the pizza. Great cook, sweet sauce, good cheese and toppings. they sprinkle a little oregano on top which you may like if you're not fully sold on the sweet sauce. The hot bbq wings had a little char on them, and I think were better than the medium. Medium wings were fine, not entirely crispy and could use a bit more sauce. I would definitely go back for the pizza! read more

I mostly only stop in for a slice or 2 (depends on my hunger - usually 1 slice is enough) and blue cheese (it is January 2025 and for reference it's about $9 for 2 slices and a Cains blue cheese - they also have a $9 special for 2 slices and a 20oz) I only "dip" my pizza at 2 places and this is one of them ... I just find the flavor of the pizza pairs well with it. On rare occasion, I will get a turkey sub and it's also good. I like the pizza the way it is, but if you like your crust a little crispier, ask them to throw your slices in the oven a bit or even throw them on a pan at home with some oil. The crew is always and working hard and are professional. In the summer there is a picnic table to eat outside otherwise it's just a takeout spot. They do have some dinner entrees as well as the usual wings fingers and subs. Slices are always pepperoni (the cups not flat), usually there is plain cheese, and I have rarely ever seen any specialty pizza in all of my years coming here. read more

Sloppy greasy pizza. Stopped in for the $9 lunch special where you get two slices and a coke. The pizza is very soggy, doughy and greasy. I understand this style of pizza but it's poorly executed. I'd opt to go to a Bocce's location for the same style but done with more consistency. I'd recommend asking them to cook it "well done" if you're like me and don't want sloppy pizza. read more

The guys working there taking orders, ringing out, and making the pizza are super friendly. I ordered extra cheese and was very happy to actually get it! The cup and char pepperoni was yummy too! The sauce was a bit too sweet for me and it was a little well done, but all and all it was really good and I had 2 slices. read more

This has, and will ALWAYS be my favorite pizza place in Buffalo. Now I might be bias, because I have grown up right near it. But, I genuinely think it is the best classic buffalo pizza. It's got the thick crust, sweet sauce, and is cooked to perfection. The BBQ wings there are also my family's favorite, the light char is so tasty. I do prefer their slices better, but if you get a sheet I recommend doing hot peppers (but careful, very spicy!) and sweet onions. The owners and workers know us as regulars at this point, and have gone above and beyond for us! Picked up and had a pleasant interaction with the young men working the counter. Ordered a slice of cheese and pep, a turkey sub and an order of chicken fingers, something for everyone! The slice was delicious full a cheese and pepperoni, the sub looked sloppy and sad with witty lettuce, and my friend said it lacked taste, seemed like the oil had no flavor but fixed it with some salt and said it was average. Pizza was bland, next to no sauce felt like I was eating cheese bread ...literally a waste of time no other way to put it, how can you mess up a cheese pizza??? Stop in to pick up a pizza after golf. I ordered a large cheese and pepperoni. When I went to pick it up , it turned out to be a square pizza. I prefer round however this is fine. The pizza was thick and doughy. There wasn't much pepperoni and it wasn't very flavorful. Just not what I would call a great pizza. My order was done on time. My son suggested Mattina's this weekend as a change of pace, although neither of us could recall when we had last ordered from there, but it has been years. We have our favorite go to pizza places, but we still like trying other/new places. We ordered the combo sheet pizza with pepperoni, half mushroom and a bucket of wings, half medium, half bbq. The pizza was good, maybe a little bready for some, but I thought it was pretty good. I will say, to me, there is something about how pizza tastes in sheet form versus a typical large pizza, and I love a good sheet pizza. Good balance of cheese and pepperoni, but mushrooms were skimpy. Next time I'd order double mushroom. My husband loved the wings, probably the best he's had - big and meaty and not dry. Can one give zero stars here? Easily the worst chicken wings I've ever had and I've had wings in Iowa. I grew up in Buffalo. These wings are an embarrassment to the city of Buffalo and should get their license to make wings revoked. We ordered medium wings. They were fried until there was no moisture left. None. They were drier than the Sahara Desert. It was difficult to choke them down they were so dry. And no sauce at all. So, no flavor or heat. When I get pizza and wings I get them from Mattina's Pizzeria. Their wings are succulent, well cooked, a perfect size and seasoned to order, NEVER dry, and small as I've had at other places that shall remain nameless. Their pizza, cut in squares, is thick, cooked through, and tender with a delicious sauce. I order my wings with honey BBQ sauce and my guest orders medium Buffalo sauce and we are very satisfied with the flavors. Our pizza order, half mushrooms and half pepperoni is always just what we wanted. They have always gotten it right for us. It's definitely my favorite Buffalo pizza place. read more

Christmas came earlier to me this year. I know it's going to sound strange, but I finally had an opportunity to try Mattina's pizza, because I was too busy with cooking. I don't eat pizza often so I can't make a comparison. There was a time when I was a Pesci's girl, but that was quite a while ago. My opinion depends mostly on my preference. It's not supposed to be difficult to be satisfied with a bread product loaded with cheese and your favorite choice of toppings. I attacked the box and ate my first square immediately. It was sweet, cushy and cheesy. The pie took over the whole room with a nice aroma of fresh baked goods and pepperoni. My second piece was from the edge and I started to notice there wasn't much cheese or sauce or anything else on it. It was still good, crunchy and gooey at the same time, but I would rather say 'more cheese please' and definitely more mushrooms. The sauce was sweet and was missing tanginess, a very important factor for me. I wouldn't have wanted more of that sauce, unfortunately. The half pizza, eight squares order (18''x9'') was a good size for two hungry people. In general it was a good pizza, but I felt like the ratio of dough to toppings, this time pepperoni and mushrooms, did not reach a good, satisfying balance. I could eat Buffalo style pie and be happy only if it's covered generously with everything that I asked for, plus a lot of cheese of course. After moving to Buffalo 26 years ago, we set out to find a pizza that lived up to the pizza we loved from a place in our old home town. After several years and a whole lot of pizza, we finally discovered Mattina's Pizzeria on Sheridan. The crust and sauce are made just the way we like it. They are generous with the toppings and the bake on it is always perfect, never burnt or undercooked. Another thing we like is that the large pizza is 18" square, cut into squares and put into a square box. I will never understand why other places make a round pizza, cut it into triangles and put it into a square box, it's just not natural. I have been happy with everything I've ordered here. I love the pizza. It is thick crust traditional Buffalo Pizza with a great sauce. One of those neighborhood places that you can just pop in and grab a slice if you don't want to pre-order. But they have a great variety so you can get a lot of things other than just pizza is well. May be my new favorite pizzeria in the Northtowns . Reminds me of Bocce pizza and conveniently located across the street from my part time job . 2 huge slices and a beverage special for $7.75 . I also like the fact that they offer more than just your typical cheese and pepp with the special . I love cheese and mushrooms and they almost always have these slices hot and ready . Beware, they get super busy on game days and may not have these slices available during the Bills game. It had been a while since I came here, so I tried one of their more traditional pizzas and man, it was fantastic! *Since the parking lot, building, and staff have remained the same, for the most part, I'm just going to comment on the pizza.* I ordered a half (eight slices) cheese, pepperoni, mushroom, hot pepper pizza. It was ready within 30 minutes (called at 5:30pm for pickup at 6pm on a Saturday). When I picked up the pizza box, the first thing I noticed was just how heavy it was! As soon as I got back to my place, I opened it up and just admired the beauty of it: gooey cheese with the red sauce peeking underneath and loaded with pepperoni, which was properly crisped, and mushrooms and banana peppers. The pizza itself tasted incredible! The red sauce is a sweeter style, but I very much enjoyed it. The crust was a cross between Buffalo and Sicilian: it was thicker and a little more dense like Sicilian, but had the chew and taste of Buffalo (at least to me). Now, typically, I can eat a half pizza (Leonardi's and Bocce Club) but this is the first Buffalo pizza shop where I was bested! Even though there were eight slices, these suckers are heavy!! Now, I ate the entire thing but instantly regretted it as it was just too much, even for my appetite (shocking, I know). The half size would be perfect for sharing with someone or just sticking the other half of it in the freezer, which is what I should have done. Mattina's Pizzeria has really surprised me! Pizza (3.5) - it's square, the sauce is good and we liked it. I liked that the sauce wasn't too sweet. Grilled BBQ Wings (4.5) - they're healthier than fried and... more importantly, they're tasty.
