Been coming to Mattison's for a couple of years with my family and our dog Alfred. I noticed today that dogs are no longer permitted in your establishment. I saw people being turned away because they bought their dog with them. It's very sad you put these rules into effect when most outdoor restaurants are moving in the opposite direction. read more

This is a nice restaurant with a river view. I ordered the seafood gumbo and I loved that they didn't scrimp on the mussels or shrimp. More importantly, it was delicious. Just the right amount of spice. The bar staff is super attentive. Definite recommend. read more

I went to Mattison's with my wife and her sister. We enjoyed the outdoor ambiance and loved the food. My wife and each had the poke tower appetizer which was delicious. I had the fried haddock taco appetizer and my wife had the PEI mussel appetizer. Neither of us had room for an entre! My sister in law had the grouper piccata and raved about it. Not a huge fan... went once with my mom. I ordered a burger that was nothing to write home about and she ordered the Mussels which were AWFUL. I'm not sure when their expiration date was, but it had to have been a few weeks prior. The first red flag were the flies swarming the plate, paired with the smell of what can only be described as livestock. The entire menu is fried, overpriced, and very similar to every other chain restaurant in the area. If you want good Mussels, go to Mattison's nearby neighbo: Pier 22. read more

Do not go. We had a party of 14 booked weeks in advance. Half of our party got their meal, the rest of of us waited 30 plus minutes. The other large tables got their dinner ahead of ours. No way, never again. And I was still charged full price. Also there was some kind of water leak on the floor, nasty. They have not acknowledged my previous review. I went for lunch and had the chicken burger. It comes with a slightly spicy aïoli sauce, avocado and crispy bacon. All good, except the chicken was a formed patty -- a solid piece of chicken would be better. The sweet potato fries are VERY good. Crispy nicely seasoned. I ate outside as most others did. We stopped here after going to a local flea market for a late lunch/early dinner. It is an outdoor restaurant with a roof and fans, so it was actually very comfortable to eat there. The menu has many unique choices for cocktails and a nice selection for lunch/dinner. The fried artichoke hearts were a really good appetizer. Our server was Neli and she was very knowledgeable of the menu choices and very friendly as well. This place is a great choice right off of the Bradenton river walk. read more

Crystal was a great server. The food was okay. Two issues, I ordered the salmon over risotto and the risotto was crunchy, which I know is not how it should be presented to a patron. Because of the size of our party, our orders were split in half and another server jumped in between and added a large order between ours so there was a 15 minute delay between half of our party receiving our meals. This should have been handled differently by restaurant management. If you know there is a large party order going in, that order should be kept together and the next server can submit their order. read more

Had dinner here with a friend and ordered from their happy hour menu. Our table was very sticky and the floor of the restaurant was dirty. Our waitress was rude throughout our dinner and we had to ask multiple times for different things because she kept forgetting. Food was excellent on the other hand. We had a shrimp taco, crab cake, sweet potato fries & calamari. The food is overpriced even the happy hour menu. We ordered from the happy hour menu at first but didn't realize we were paying $7.50 for 1 small shrimp taco and $7 for 1 small crab cake. (When I say small I mean two bites at most). We were optimistic due to the reviews by other customers. We ordered the shrimp rangoons as appetizers and they were great. Wife ordered the sushi roll (they have 2 options) one with spicy crab topping and one without. She ordered the one without and was served the one with which is spicy. No problem at all, but then she noticed that the ahi tuna was looked off. Well after the waitress had no idea and made 3 trips to the kitchen trying to find out what happened to the fish. Come to find out the prep person minced the tuna. It had a dark tint to it and was hard. Waitress response was "I don't know" "maybe it's not very fresh". So back to the kitchen she goes. She was trying but the kitchen maybe having a off day or whatever. Food finally comes out and my sons chicken sandwich coved in spicy firecracker sauce, was suppose to be on the side. On a recent visit for lunch, they were short staffed and had a larger crowd than expected. It took 30 minutes to get a drink and order food, the manager was NO where to be found. I inquired about substituting chicken for shrimp on a wrap, I was told it could be for an up charge of $4.00. Since when is chicken more expensive than shrimp, I would have been happy to pay the additional amount for shrimp instead of chicken. BUT to up charge me an additional $4.00 is mind blowing. After more than 90 minutes since walking in, our food FINALLY arrived. When our food finally arrived it was cold and WRONG! We needed a drink refill, asking our server where the manager was she just shrugged her shoulders saying he's hiding someplace in the back. I asked to see him, our server said the message was passed on but they NEVER showed up. I can understand a manager being in the back helping with food prep, but when that's over. You'd expect to see them helping out front, not hiding when you ask to see them. Never got our drink refill, and never got top speak with a manager. It'll be a cold day before I ever return to be ignored like that by a manager. Next time I'll travel less than a mile away in either direction to Caddy's or Pier 22. The food is much better, drinks are better and more enjoyable atmosphere by far! read more

After a trip to the Riverwalk we went to Mattison's for lunch. The outside seating is great. They have screens and fans to keep you cool while you enjoy your meal. We were a large group (13 of us). We ordered a variety of food. The food we ordered was good- the drawback was the excessive amount of time it took for the food to come out...considering it was a Tuesday, there really should not have been this time lag for receiving standard food items (a few burgers, chicken sandwiches, and salads). We asked the waitress, who often seemed to go "missing" about the food and she told us the food will be out in 4 minutes- an obvious line she used. The manager came over a few times to also reassure us that the food would be out soon, however, even with her lack-luster reassurance, we did not feel "well serviced". On our next trip to the area, I don't think I would frequent this restaurant again. read more

Mattison's is always a pleasant experience with delicious food. The only problem I have is that I cannot try all of the menu items. There are large portions. The firecracker chicken is so good, fried right, crispy and well seasoned. We have also enjoyed the gumbo and the reuben. Oh and the bruschetta. I haven't had a bad bite yet. Eat here yesterday for lunch. Wasn't really crowded, but service was pretty slow. A little longer to get our (2 people) food then I would think, since our order was soup for both of us along with half sandwich for one. One order delivered wrong soup. French onion soup used croutons instead of bread - not my favorite- and was warm. Getting our check was a real hassle, waiting literally 15 minutes. Too bad, this place has the right ambiance and its outdoor patio is great. However, a little pricey for lunch ( soup $9.00) and service moves this to a 2 star rating. Let me start by saying the waiter and manager were very professional and accomodating... However, I was not impressed with the food. We went there for Sunday brunch. I ordered a veggie panini on focaccia bread. It came out as a regular sandwich, with room temperature vegetables and mozarella. The manager explained the restaurant doesn't have a panini press and they just decided to call the sandwhich a "Veggie Panini." They were apologetic, and asked me if I cared to order something else. I ordered the kale salad. Upon receiving it, the kale stalks were old and black/or molded. I showed this to the waiter. I love this place. We were walking around river walk at night and stumbled across this place due to the band playing Beatles. By the way they were awesome !! We walked up to the bar and ordered to go our food was so amazingly delicious !! I ordered a shrimp tempura which was awesome with the dragon roll! It WAS ALL TO DIE FOR !! My husband also ate the brick oven pizza with sausage and pepperoni. He loved it as well as my 8 year old . The crust was delicious and soft with the right amount of crispy . Yum I am so glad we came here and ordered our food here . I recommend this place to any one who loves sushi or any sea food. Terrible. Horrible staffing, terrible food. Salomon was sour, fried cod tasted frozen and salad was old and wilted. We will not be back!
