For the price of $2.50, I think the food is solid for what its worth!! The cold brew and lattes were fine. A little watered down in my opinion but also didn't expect much since the staff poured it out of a container. Their croissant and spinach bureka actually exceed expectation! Although the filling to pastry ratio was a little low for me, I was surprised that the pastries were buttery, flaky, and crispy. The store is small without any seating but staff/service were fine! I've seen a bunch of Matto's pop up over the city. I was in the area and decided to stop by. All the drink items, and a lot of the food items, are $2.50 if you download the app! You do have to preload money into your account so maybe that is the catch. I got a warmed up potato boreka and a warmed up spinach one. We also tried the egg white feta cheese bite. Everything was delicious and tasted so fresh. For $2.50 a pastry, I am coming back here! read more

I haven't been to a Matto in a long time, I've seen a bunch around the city but I usually make cold brew at home. I am glad I tried - everything is well priced at a $3 or so. They have so many choices for flavoring. I was able to try their cold brew with caramel and almond milk. My husband tried one of their protein balls and enjoyed it. Not only is everything 2.50 on their app (even if you substitute for non-dairy milk!) the coffee is actually delicious! My husband and I frequent here often when we either run out of coffee at home, running late or just craving matto coffee. We've been to several locations but this one is close to us and always perfect for a quick stop. They also have baked goods and some breakfast items. Matto Espresso at 403 East 70th Street is very efficient. They have a steady stream of customers. There's NO counter with stools inside. There's plenty of seating outside and it's nice today, cool and cloudy. I felt welcome here as soon as I walked in. I recognized the employee from the other location. She let me take her photo but is bashful. She gave me permission to post her doing her work. She's very good at her job. She works at any Matto location when she's needed. She's what we used to call a floater. The other employee today was also friendly and efficient. Paying cash makes it quick. I like this location. I recommend you visit if you are nearby! read more

I was assisted by Anastasia at this location and she wasn't the nicest person to interact with. They have a sign out front that says $2.50 on app and $2.75 at register. When all of my order was complete and I was rung up I realized she is charging me $3.00 per item. I explained to her that the sign out front says $2.75 and register and she proceeded to says yea it's $2.75 on app plus tax. I tried to explain to her that it's actually $2.50 plus tax on app and the sign is saying it's 2.75 plus tax AT REGISTER. She wasn't understanding this concept and wouldn't honor the price they were advertising out front. It's fine if they updated their prices, but their signs need to reflect that because we order based on the menu/signs within our price range. read more

This Matto is by far my favorite location to visit despite there being 4 more in the 1 mile radius of my job. I love how convenient it is to order through the app for pickup but because there are so many locations, I sometimes choose the wrong one. This happened twice, but the employee here was so nice about it. The first time I picked up my order several hours later because I had meant to pick a different matto closer to work instead of the train. He made me a new drink on the spot when he remembered throwing out my old one. The second time I ordered an almond croissant and was about to run to the other location, but he just took a picture of my receipt and said I could pick here instead. His kindness made my day!! Everything at Matto is $2.50 if you order through their app. Their drinks and pastries are decent considering the price. The lattes aren't as strong and the pastries aren't amazing but they're so affordable and convenient that they've become my go-to. I've had the following: -Spinach Burekas: a flaky spinach pastry with crumbled feta cheese. Not enough cheese or spinach layered in so it's mostly dough and it's not as flaky as I would like. It's heavy and filling due to all the dough -Iced Banana Latte: Espresso blended with milk and dates. This was surprisingly good considering how weird it sounded! I thought it would use artificial banana syrup but it tasted authentic and had little date bits in it. Great choice for anyone into unique latte flavors. -Iced Chai Latte: Didn't think the Chai flavor was strong enough and there was a lot of ice in the cup. -Almond Croissant: a big croissant, but looked pretty flat, and didn't have the usual layers of flaky pastry. It was ok, but I wished it had more almond filling and was flakier. -Vegan Gluten Free Blueberry Lemon Donut: So moist and flavorful despite being vegan AND gluten free! This is one of my favorite items. The icing is bursting with lemon flavor. -Truffle Brownie: a pretty good brownie that's slightly fudgy and very chocolately -Pumpkin Spice Latte: The pumpkin flavor here is strange. Would not recommend. They have so many other pastries and drinks here I'd love to try. The coffee isn't as good as other independent coffeeshops but it's just so affordable that I don't mind. i like matto espresso cause i can spend less then 20 bucks and get plenty of breakfast treats for my slacker work staff. while walking on the upper east side on 1st ave near 70th st i notice folks sitting outside enoying coffee and other 2 bucks a piece pastry , etc , and in i go. itd a typical matto set up , small spaced , strictly order. grab and go and all sweets , foods , etc , are on full displayed . i must say the espresso and cappuccino are made very well and i never had a bad one regardless of location .the staff are friendly and quick compared to some of the starbucks i have visited and for 2 bucks for a good size hot beverage you cant beat it. watch out starbucks king matto espresso is in town. read more
