I mean, c'mon, you've got the great state of Texas as your logo, yet you neglect to serve the state's beloved drink? The brisket was alright, but when I ask for lean, I expect it to be served lean. On the bright side, the macaroni and cheese was tasty. However, the elotes were a letdown. It had this peculiar flavor that just didn't hit the spot. And don't even get me started on the coleslaw - not my cup of tea. The sauces were decent, but I firmly believe it's a mortal sin to douse a good brisket with any sauce. The popper was good. Probably the best thing. The candied pork belly burnt ends were good. The sausage was a weird texture and had no snap to it. It was like finely chopped Italian beef in a casing. Brisket was wrong. Thick cut with no smoke ring or real flavor. Pulled pork and corn bread were probably the most disappointing. No bark and super wet pork. Wish there was more smoke all around. The cornbread just completely crumbled when taken out of the plastic wrapping. So dry. Sauce options were fine. But Texas BBQ doesn't need sauce to mask the flavorlessness of bland meat. Amazing!!! Since they opened I've tried almost everything on the menu. Great ribs, and my go-to is the pulled pork sandwich. I love all of the different sauces. For sides I love the slaw and the super unique potato salad with lots of fresh dill. I also enjoy the texas twinkies - jalapeno popper wrapped in bacon. Just stopped in for a grilled/smoked grouper sandwich for lunch yesterday (Fridays during lent) and OMG it was melt in your mouth delicious with a fantastic homemade tartar sauce. We came on a very hot day, so we couldn't take advantage of sitting in their cute outdoor patio area. We had a full slab of ribs which came with coleslaw and rolls, brisket and the elotes. I really wanted to try the big beef rib, but I didn't realize it was only available on Sundays. The ribs are smoky and tender, but also slathered in bbq sauce. The brisket was very good and super soft. I didn't really like the elotes since the corn kernels were super soggy. I'd pass on that. I'll be back to try some other things on the menu. Went here on a Friday evening after work. Extremely friendly and nice staff. Food is served fresh, hot and quick. But how does it taste? Well I ordered the special sausage of the month. Bratwurst I've never had one smoked at a place like this. Typically it's just some sort of pork sausage. This was very tasty actually my favorite thing. Add a bit of there house honey bbq sauce and you got some deliciousness going on. The brisket talk was tasty. The cole slaw was not too my liking it was just ok. I personally like a little more creaminess to mine. And finally the pull pork slider. It was pretty good better with sauce. It comes in a sandwich or a slider which I presume is the smaller version. It was barely room temperature, and the second piece was cut straight off the fat cap. And the thing is, the cook is pretty good. First off, I have to say the sauce was really good. You get a choice of three there's what I'll call a normal barbecue sauce there's a sweet barbecue sauce and a vinegary barbecue sauce. That said we're there at 7:15 at 7 PM on a Friday night, they were out of ribs, the positive side is they obviously make them to order in fresh the bad side is is at 7 o'clock. They're out of ribs for a rib place, hello Let's talk about the sides, macaroni and cheese as anybody knows good barbecue, you need good sides, macaroni, and cheese. This was dry serve and served in one of those papers in one of those paper boats like in the cafeteria, these aren't school, cafeteria prices I am paying put it in a real bowl please, it also came out on a red plastic tray. Seriously what type of kitch are they going for here. Seriously in this day and age paying the prices that we paid getting served foam plates these are not biodegradable these are not good for the environment and they're horrendously, cheap and tacky. Why use them? We ordered the pulled pork sandwich's, because they were out of ribs. We ordered two of them. The bun, Mine was room temperature, not heated or steamed or anything else and it was very reminiscent of like a butternut hamburger bun , similar to something you can get at a grocery store not memorable at all. The sandwiches came to us wrapped in aluminum foil not on a plate mind you were inside eating in the dining room again this has to be their motif or something they're going for some type of southern barbecue. I had barbecue in Texas before it wasn't like this. Do you like eating at someone's backyard, getting foam plates, but paying full-service prices. Based on my experience, I will not be back. I cannot comment on their wait staff because there isn't any waitress never came to the table. The bartender said. There is a menu on the wall and you order with her. Since you pay at the bar when you order, before you get your food, tipping is your option, we did but it's up to you. Matt's BBQ is a homerun for Lemont. We are constantly surprised by the high quality food that is served. We live nearby and can smell the smoker at all hours of the day going. One of the more authentic and genuine BBQ joints in the Chicagoland area, in my opinion. We love the brisket and pulled pork in particular. Star docked due to the sides being good, but not great, somewhat lacking in flavor. And beware, they sell out! They will commonly have a sign with what food items are sold out for the day, so be prepared with a second choice! The atmosphere here is great. You order at the front and then they bring your food out to you. They also have a full bar, with some of the best mix drinks in Lemont. Lively spot, with great and attentive staff. I wanted to like this place, and I want to come back to make sure it wasn't an off night. We arrived at 5:30 on a Saturday night and they are out of brisket. What?! A barbecue place out of brisket?!? So we ordered the burnt ends, slab of ribs and green beans... oh wait, they were out of smoked green beans! Did I mention it's 5:30 on a Saturday night? Also ordered cornbread. When the burnt ends arrived, they were so dried out, hard, and inedible for most of them. The ribs were perfect, smoky, and fall off the bone tender. But I don't know why they are served with sauce on them when they have three sauces on the table that I would have liked to choose from. Now I know to request un-sauced. The cornbread was just plain yuck, and we were extremely disappointed (and bewildered as to why the owner had traveled through Texas and the South, working with Pit Bosses and not having learned that : you GOTTA have good cornbread if you have a barbecue joint.) So taking the word from our dinner companions, who had sworn this place was off that night, we are definitely going to go back for one more try. A tip to the restaurant, you have to start with good, stone ground corn meal, and you can get this from The Old Mill in Pigeon Forge by mail order.
