We recently had lunch at this beautiful restaurant. The food was delicious, well prepared and presented. We started with the grilled calamari and sweet local oysters, both amazing. My husband had the wild boar sausage Bolognese. He said it was delicious but needed a side of bread. I have a food allergy, Alpha Gal. I am allergic to anything that is a mammal. Look it up, it's not fun. But I can eat seafood, so I ordered the Bouillabaisse. I had the waiter double check that nothing was used in it's preparation such as bacon or salt pork. Well 5 hours later, I knew better. I am so sad that this happened. If you think oh well, I understand. But I was so excited to eat out, most places are very kind and accommodating. The food tasted so good. I wanted to contact them directly but there are no email addresses for them. Food allergies are real and fyi, I didn't know I had this stupid allergy for 4 years. Where to begin... We decided to give Matunuck Atelier a try after hearing so much hype following the fire at the original location. To say our experience was lackluster would be an understatement. Before getting to the food, I'll start with the design, décor, and ambiance. The layout is unusual. It's immediately apparent, both from the exterior and the entry sequence, that the building served another purpose in a previous life, in this case a strip mall, and has since been reclad and dressed up. It feels like a significant amount of money was invested in the building itself, but very little attention was given to the landscape and arrival experience. The entrance is undersized and creates an awkward bottleneck when guests are trying to get inside. While there was clearly thought put into the interior design, the sheer scale of the space makes it feel more like dining in a warehouse than a restaurant. Aside from the bar tucked into the back, there is very little to break up the large open room. I won't dwell on this since it's not an architectural review, but the design team could have done a better job with the spatial layout. The fit and finish are well executed, but the decision to completely cover the windows creates a dark, disconnected environment with little connection to the outside world. It feels as though the design team was intentionally trying to hide the building's location once you're inside. The lighting and acoustics only add to the problem. The extensive use of track lighting aimed directly at the tables creates a spotty, glare-filled environment. The acoustics were equally problematic. The large open space, combined with the hard surfaces throughout, made it difficult to hold a conversation without raising your voice for much of the evening. Moving on to the food, the disappointment continued. We ordered the seafood dumplings, oysters and littleneck clams, and for entrées the yellowfin tuna, scallops, and bouillabaisse. Starting with the dumplings, they appeared to be pan-fried, but they were covered in a bland 'sauce' and immediately turned into a mushy mess. The filling itself was good, but $13 for three small dumplings is a difficult value proposition. The oysters and littlenecks were excellent. Nothing negative to say there. The oyster selection was heavily East Coast, which I appreciated, but I still found it odd that there were any West Coast oysters on the menu at all. Given Rhode Island's abundance of exceptional local seafood, I would have expected the raw bar to lean entirely into local and regional offerings. As for the entrées, only one of the three dishes, the bouillabaisse, arrived hot. Both the tuna and scallops were served lukewarm. Given the already lengthy wait between the dumplings, raw bar, and main courses, we didn't have the patience to send them back. Unfortunately, I don't have much positive feedback on the entrées themselves. The pairing of a traditional Italian-style risotto with seared tuna and a miso-based dressing felt confused and disjointed. I expected a more cohesive Asian-inspired approach to what was described as a spring risotto. The bouillabaisse and scallops were fine, although I found the potato accompaniment with the scallops somewhat uninspired. Looking at the menu as a whole, it feels as though the culinary team is trying to capitalize on the popularity of Asian-inspired cuisine without fully understanding how to pair those flavors or execute them effectively. "Atelier" is a bold word to include in a restaurant's name. It suggests creativity, craftsmanship, and refinement. Based on our experience, this restaurant has not yet earned that distinction. Given the price point, we expected this restaurant to exceed our expectations previously set by Matunuck Oyster Bar. Unfortunately, it didn't measure up. The space, while beautiful, is incredibly loud and much too brightly lit during the day. We strained to hear each other and some guests looked spotlit. Tables are also very close together and severs sometimes stand between them, making everything feel more cramped. Everyone agreed that the food was... fine. The house-made pasta is delicious, but we couldn't ignore that the protein in one pasta dish was bland or that the serving size of another was an appetizer's share. The seafood is stellar, as always, and the wine list was impressive. Service was pleasant, but not exactly prompt. More than anything, we left feeling like this restaurant wants to be something grand, but can't quite deliver. Having to valet in a regular parking lot really drove that point home for us. read more

This afternoon, we decided to try Matunuck Atelier, inspired by our past experience at Matunuck Oyster Bar before last year's devastating fire. We were also happy to hear that the Oyster Bar is expected to reopen in mid-April--wonderful news. The space is elegant yet relaxing, with a large central bar and a spacious dining room that feels both comfortable and inviting. We had a 3:30 pm reservation but arrived a bit early. Parking was easy, with a large lot and several valet attendants available. Upon entering, Jerry at the front desk greeted us warmly and seated us immediately. His friendly and welcoming demeanor set a great tone for the afternoon. We started with four jumbo Gulf shrimp cocktail--fresh and very tasty. We also shared the spicy tuna roll and the Ora King salmon & crab roll, both exceptionally fresh and well-prepared. For our main courses, I had the grilled local yellowfin tuna steak, while my husband ordered the blackened tuna bánh mì with a side salad. Both dishes were flavorful and cooked perfectly. We finished with a dessert called When Chocolate Meets Coffee, which was excellent--a rich and satisfying ending to the meal. Our waitress, Bobana, was wonderful--sweet, professional, and attentive throughout. She checked on us regularly, refilled our water, and even brought lemon and lime without being asked. She truly made the experience feel relaxed and enjoyable. The only downside was the cocktail we shared, "Perfectly Pear'D," which lacked balance and did not seem to have much alcohol. Overall, an excellent meal with great service in a beautiful setting. We would absolutely return--though next time, we will likely skip the cocktails. read more

Came here for dinner on a Saturday night and the place was packed. We had a reservation but still waited a few minutes before our table was ready. The ambiance felt sophisticated yet cozy and relaxed. We ordered the Tamarindo and the Sweet Miso'ry cocktails. Both were good, though I preferred the Tamarindo slightly. For food, we tried the chili-spiced cucumber, the Yin Yang roll, the spicy tuna roll, and the bolognese. The cucumber dish had a nice mix of flavors, though I expected a bit more heat. Both sushi rolls were good, with the spicy tuna standing out a little more. The bolognese was quite different from what I've had before, but the pasta itself was really delicious. The Night Shift martini was a great after-dinner drink. Service was good throughout the meal. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience, and the valet service was convenient. read more

What a beautiful building! Really stunning lighting and woodwork. We sat at the bar facing the restaurant because it was soo noisy! It was a bit quieter at the bar. We had a charming inexperienced bartender and my $14 drink needed to be fixed. Would have liked an experienced bartender on such a busy place on Saturday night. But okay. I had a hot lobster roll which I really wanted to like but there wasn't all that much lobster and it was overcooked. The french fries are awesome though. My partner had a Bouillabaisse which was good but the fish was cod and it wasn't a generous portion. Anyway, it was okay, we had fun anyway. read more

Everything was excellent! The service staff was wonderful, attentive yet not intrusive. Delivery slowed down a bit as we waited for our entries. Impressive how Very smooth it went for opening week. The space is beautiful with a nice vibe and stunning modern decor. There were 2 house managers roaming around and checking in with guests. They did not stop in at not our table though. I do think that if there was some sort of "wall" or partition at the end of the bar, between the bar and the dining room, it would be more intimate and maybe reduce the noise a tad. The salmon is truly some of the best I've ever had. A much more chic ambiance than south county is used to and I'm here for it! Don't let the location fool you- you're transported somewhere much nicer than across from Wakefield mall once inside. Designers did a great job with that. I see a lot of reviews saying it's loud in the restaurant. Yes- it's a busy, large restaurant with a ton of people dining and drinking. It's not a hole in the wall diner with 8 tables like many of the other places in south county. If you'd like a quiet, candle lit dinner with 4 tables and hushed voices, I'd go somewhere else. Absolutely terrible experience. We were seated and left sitting for a long time without anyone greeting us, offering water, or taking our drink order. We finally had to go speak to the front desk before our server came over. Instead of apologizing, she simply thanked us for our patience and took no accountability for the delay. Because the service was so poor, we ordered our drinks and food at the same time since we had no idea when we would see our server again. Our food came out almost immediately, which was concerning, but our drinks still never arrived. We had to ask for them again while already eating our meal. The food was mediocre at best. The service was by far the worst part of the experience. Our server, Katie I believe, was nowhere to be found most of the time. What made the experience even worse was that no manager or staff member came over to apologize or acknowledge the situation. This place literally just opened, so naturally, a lot of people are coming to check it out. The influx of people is going to be high until the novelty wears down, so relax everybody. This restaurant is open daily until midnight and I've had no problem with the restaurant being "loud" because I either come very late, or I eat here on a Monday or a Wednesday. If noise is your Achilles heel, don't come here on the weekends or a Friday night, when everyone is practically guaranteed to be here. That's only common sense, folks. As for the food. It is great. I ate here a few times and I've had no complaints. The menu is varied and exciting. read more

No surprise how beautifully designed the restaurant is. The interior is stunning. The food is amazing and as always the staff is wonderful. This restaurant is different than the Oyster Bar. A bit upscale, the food leans a bit towards pasta dishes but still has amazing seafood. It has a sushi/raw bar where you can enjoy both styles if that's all you're interested in. The menu is extensive with crudos, sushi . They have a room just for pasta making as they serve homemade pasta dishes. I enjoyed a seafood ravioli and the pasta was light . The dish was really good. My brother ordered the blackened tuna banh mi which was my second choice and it was delicious. Served on a chocolate baguette. Their homemade/hand-cut fries are the best. Took me back when I was growing up with fish and chips many moons ago. The desserts are very good as well. Perry has definitely maintained the caliper and consistency of his culinary style. The best Wagyu burger and truffle fries we ever had. Black trumpet mushrooms on the burger added a delicious flavor. Spicy tuna roll as well as the salmon and crab roll were presented beautifully and again the quality of the ingredients was top notch. Probably would not order them again because all the extras on the roll distracted from the clean sushi taste usually found at a Japanese restaurant. East and West Coast oysters were outstanding! Fabulous, from walking in and seeing the beautiful interior with gorgeous wood and glass. Waitress was exceptionally nice and knowledgeable. Menu was so good it was hard for my husband and I to select, everything sounded enticing. First two items were dumplings - lobster which was steamed and the seafood one which was nicely toasted. I tried the lobster one first and it had the most succulent and luscious flavor - I think the vanilla gave it an extra smooth and buttery flavor. Next the seafood one, and excellent but lobster was our favorite. I wish I took pictures as the presentation was gorgeous too. Our main courses were the seafood boulisbase and the halibut. Beautiful, delicious, outstanding tastes compliments from sauces and veggies. Then dessert- espresso over vanilla bean gelato was a piece of art being served, yummy to look at and taste. The olive oil cake was the best - flavor, texture and a very large slice too. That a a glass of wine and a strawberry mocktail and it was an exceptional dinner. So different from Matunuck Oyster in some ways but Perry offers another variety of food and both are exceptional treats to visit and enjoy. read more

I almost never take the time to post reviews, but last night was spectacular at Matunuck Atelier. Of course the food is spectacular as expected. But the bartender Kaden was the absolute best. We like sitting at the bar and I love chatting about drinks and if I am feeling like the bartender is up for it, I'll always ask them to use their discretion and make me something. Kaden was amazing. It was a busy Friday night but she took her time, asked me questions, and made me two of the most beautiful cocktails that perfectly matched what I like. This is a testament to her artistry and craft and also to the restaurant who commits to this kind of a bar program. It's expensive to go out these days - and especially for drinks. As frequent customers of MOB, we were so excited for this new restaurant. Recognizing that it is brand new, we do plan to give it a second chance, but were very disappointed with the experience. The restaurant is beautiful but very loud, the chairs uncomfortable and the food quite bland. This is apparently by design to bring out the flavor of the protein, but a sauce or some spice would have changed the outcome. Hopeful that Perry reads these reviews and makes some alterations. The bar staff was excellent, attentive, friendly, and easily the highlight of the evening. Unfortunately, the food and management experience did not match the price point. I ordered a salad that was extremely bitter, with a dressing that did not complement it at all, and I genuinely could not eat it. What was especially disappointing was that one of the servers mentioned I was not the first person that day to say the same thing. After a $150 bill, I expected a more professional response. Instead, the manager came over with a smug tone and said, "You ordered a salad that said it was bitter and now you're not happy?" Then turned his back with a smug smile and walked away.
