Since it has been four years since my last review, I think it is time to reiterate how great the food and ambiance are here. Five of us enjoyed our dinners on a Wed. Evening in July. Two liked the Raw Oysters and Little Neck Clams served with three sauces: vinegar based, cocktail, and hot sauce. Three of us ordered locally caught baked Flounder. Very large piece of fresh harvested fish were succulent. Whole filleted fish? One ordered the Scallops. The large scallops are cooked perfectly and flavorful. A few days later, I ordered the Scallops at Champlins! Delicious My grandson ordered the grilled swordfish which I considered ordering. He wanted me to try a piece since it was perfectly cooked. It was not dry at all. My daughter had the broiled sea scallops, her favorite. We keep coming here because they serve great quality seafood that is prepared skillfully. Ambiance: Eating seafood seaside can not be beat. Champlain's is located in the scenic fishing village of Galilee in Narragansett, RI. You can watch the commercial fishing boats and the Block Island Ferry enter the port from the wrap a round windows on the enclosed deck. Prices are low to moderate. read more

This was my first time here at Champlin's and it most certainly won't be the last!! Definitely not a fancy place; it is right on the water, complete with a view! When you go, you are in a line to order from a window, are given a buzzer, and pick up your tray when it's ready. While waiting for our food, we found a seat with a great view. Picnic table- like tables made of Trek, so no splinters, large tables for big parties and smaller tables for 2 or 4 people. There is also a bar serving your favorite adult beverages. There is an outdoor bar and seating as well. Very casual.... Wear your bathing suit if you choose! The food.... I had what they called a Lobster salad roll, with French fries, but it was not what I expected. The chunks of lobster and very little, if any, mayo. My roll was a little dry, but I was so excited and hungry to eat the lobster salad roll, it didn't matter!! My husband had the fried scallop dinner, which he loved. He had about 15 scallops with his French fries. The red chowder and Portuguese stuffies were also delicious. Most of the seafood is priced daily to market prices, but, man, we didn't even care since we felt it was all worth it! Three days later, and I can still taste that Lobster salad roll! We will definitely be back, but during the week. It can get very busy, and we've seen very long lines here. It's important to note they are open year round! read more

Champlain's is always amazing. The lobster meat is great and not too heavy with mayo or butter. They have great steamers, broiled fish plates, and the clear chowder is fantastic. This is an absolute Gansett staple. There is usually a one so come early, order grab a drink and enjoy the lively bar and views. If you want a true Rhode Island seafood experience, this is the place. Champlin's Seafood is as farm to table as it gets, except it's literally ocean to plate. You can sit there and watch the fishing boats come in knowing that seafood is about to end up on your table. It doesn't get more authentic than that. The calamari is cooked perfectly and so good. The littlenecks and steamers are my absolute favorite, I honestly have never had better. Everything tastes insanely fresh. The staff is what really makes it special. Some people have been working there for decades and it feels more like a family than a restaurant. Their bartender Kerri has won awards just for being herself, and once you meet her, you'll get it. It wouldn't feel like a real Rhode Island visit without stopping here. Champlin's is just one of those places you keep coming back to. read more

Ordered a quart of steamed clams, the bigger ones,pretty tasty, except there was sand in them , they should take the time to flush them out again. Coconut shrimp was good. tuna steak, medium rare very good. A bit pricey but authentic. read more

I've been going to Champlin's off and on since the early 90's. A few years ago I waited in a huge line only to get the worst fried clams of my life. The oil had gone bad and that is a disaster for fried seafood. So I boycotted for a few years. Well. I gave them another shot. This time, it was unbelievably good! The twin lobsters were cooked perfectly and were soft shells and sweet. The fried scallops were amazing as well. Even the coleslaw slaw and tarter sauce were out of this world. Everyone can have a bad day and everyone deserves a second chance. I WILL be back! read more

Came here for dinner after our day trip to Block Island. This place gets very busy and in waves, probably depending on the ferry schedules. There's three different areas to order three different things. The main window you order the main food items. Drinks you order at the bar. And there's also an Oyster Bar for just that. You order and pay upfront and then given a buzzer that will let you know when your order is ready to be picked at the kitchen window. You can borrow a nut cracker for the lobster for a $3 deposit, but they're probably the most useless nutcracker I've used. Another advice is don't sit outside as the seagulls will come flying in and try to steal your food. What's good here? We mainly split a 1 1/4 Lobster ($33 at the time), which came with coleslaw and a choice of red potatoes or french fries. We also got the Seafood Combo Platter ($43), which was loaded up with fried squid, baked scallops, fried shrimp, fried clams, a filet of battered flounder, and fries. This is a lot and can definitely feed 4 people. But, the best part was the raw oyster bar. I ended up getting two dozen oysters by the time it was all said and done. My personal favorite that they had was the Hope Island Oysters. Oysters are about $1.80 each, which is a very food deal, especially since there's a guy shucking all of them in front of you. Also need to give a shoutout to Dom at the Raw Oyster Bar station. One of the most friendliest guys I've met on this Rhode Island trip and even hooked me up with an extra oyster. read more

We each had a 3.5lb Lobster- Lobster Bisque, Clam Chowder - Clam Cakes (12) it is our 51st Wedding Anniversary celebration lunch! We have gone every year for 25-30 years now!!! He had his hip replaced 6/1 & I have a broken Humerus (bigger bone in the upper arm) and I am in a sling!! Brandon was VERY helpful for so many things today & Cathy helped carry our leftovers downstairs to our Jeep! We kind of overdid it (very sore now) but it was worth it!! 100% Recommend checking this place out!! You can eat inside or out in the deck - love coming from out of state often to eat. How the mighty have fallen. This used to be the best spot for seafood in RI. Now it's just like any other overpriced tourist trap. Watered down lobster bisque, clam chowder with no clams. 30$ for small overcooked bay scallops, asked for a refund they only gave me half of a refund. There are very few if any choices for gluten free. A very small piece of salmon and one tiny container of coleslaw for $17. How about a few good choices for people who have a sensitivity to wheat. I believe people like myself should be able to eat at champlins. Because of my experience I would not recommend if you are gluten free stay away from champlins due to a very limited choice of food. read more

The perfect fried seafood spot off the beaten path, Much quieter and less crowded than Newport. We all loved meals and enjoyed a Naragassent local brew. Maybe it's the sounds of seagulls, the warm sun shining on you, and the cool sea breeze to cool you down from the harbor that makes this the perfect lunch spot. Nice restaurant serving fair food at best. Why does it seem the closer you get to a location like Galilee the worst the food gets? Meal look like cafeteria food, not what you would expect for $20. There was nothing to write home about. It was good, it was not horrible but unfortunately I would not recommend. I must add that the woman who took our order was top notch. The wait (mostly horrendous, on a steep stairway, no less) and the bartender (serves her friends first) both need a lot of work. I would say the food is just ok. I have eaten there many times over many years and believe portions have shrunk some and the wait has definitely gotten longer, esp when a BI boat comes in! If you can get a reservation, I would go to George's, across the parking lot. Avoid their upstairs bar unless you only want to drink to second rate live music, BUT the food is quite a bit better (eat downstairs). read more

We visited for dinner with some friends who are local to the community. It's a busy place, lines out the door at dinner time.it very casual and the line very friendly. Lots of chatting as you move up to the counter. Its waterfront location means the parking is limited but the ebb and flow allows for spaces to arise. Be patient. It's worth it. The seating is casual with a view of the boats bringing in the catch of the day. If you have a large party, delegate a couple to do the order and pick up and the rest can grab a table, picnic style. We had a variety of items, a lobster roll, some scallops, some cod. A lot of the items are fried, classic Cape Cod style. For many, it is great, for others, like me better off with lobster roll. I live for a summer trip to Champlins! The fish and chips is my go to meal - it's a great serving size and although I do love a beer battered fish and chips, they have a lighter breading to theirs and it's ideal for a summer day. The service is quick. The location is ideal - you get to watch the boats coming in and out, and wave to the ferry passengers. I feel like I am living my beach vacation dreams with the dining room set up, self seating, bench seats, tons of windows... even when it's not a real beach vacation. I think that for RI's you are either a George's or a Champlin's person and I am Champlins through and through. If you manage to have room after dinner, you can grab an ice cream from the shop under them and then stroll the rocks or walk over to the beach. Been here a few times now. Ordered different items each time. Everything has been excellent. The fried scallop roll is jam packed with perfectly cooked, tender scallops, the onion rings and cold lobster roll delectable, the Portuguese stuffed clams are crispy on the outside and creamy in the inside. Lobster bisque makes you say yum with each spoonful. Plenty of pieces of lobster in the cup. I look forward to a late lunch here anytime we are in the area. Best time to go is between lunch and dinner. Gorgeous views and fun watching the fishing boats come in at that time. I am 70 year old a life long Rhode islander from western Cranston. My wife and I enjoy local seafood if it is done properly. Unfortunately, my past few experiences at Champlain's has been disappointing The quality is mediocre to poor and the prices are more than they should be. We ordered a fried clam dinner with the bellies, a fish and chips dinner, two stuffies and two unsweetened lemonades. Our bill was over $72! The stuffies were small and all bread loaded with butter, the fried clams were over cooked and too dark and the fish and chips was dry and a 1/4" thick Good fish and chips is crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside. This is nthe last time I'll drive 1 & 1/2 hours round trip to overpay for poor quality seafood. There are plenty of local restaurants that are less expensive and better quality. Don't waste your time or money at Champlain's! I won't be going back ever again! read more

Walked in and it was dead. We both ordered fish and chips and a soda. Total with tip was $60. The person at the counter was very kind...the only reason for the second star. We got our buzzer and went in to the dining room. The view was nice but it was ice cold in there. We got our food after about 15 minutes and it was absolutely terrible. The fish was luke warm, soggy, flavorless and paper thin and the cold fries were nothing like the website photos which showed a homemade, British-style "chip". Very good seafood in a great beach location. Clams and scallops are excellent and the variety and prices are reasonable. Only one problem that needs to be called out. They are listed to open at 11:30 which one isn't a great time and two, they always open later then the listed time. They take their sweet time when a line of hungry people are up on the deck at the door and on average, open 10-20 minutes later quite often. Sometimes even longer than that. Way to show urgency to your paying customers. Can't open in time, then change the time. 11:30 should mean 11:30! Need to work on people skills. read more

They will then call your number and you pick up your food. The food is OK. I had the lobster roll...nothing outstanding...basic. The white clam chowder was also so...so... The chicken tenders were ok.... Basically an average seafood place...it's a potential option when other nearby seafood places are closed or they have an hour plus wait.... It's great to be right there on the water getting fresh seafood. Prices are great for the portion size. Raw bar shucker took the time to grab fresh hot sauce when he noticed the bottle was looking gross and gave us a great plate of fresh clams. Other food came out hot and fresh. Scallop roll was busting out of the bun with a large portion of scallops at a fair MP and they were tender, not over fried, same with the flounder in the fish and chips. All three of the chowders and the lobster bisque were great, especially on a cold rainy day. read more

Casual dining where you order your food/drinks, are given a pager device to alert you when you're meal is ready for pickup. They also have a full bar. We'll definitely stop here again when in Pt. Great mid week trip out to Narragansett while visiting Rhode island and what a treat going to Champlins. It was wet and rainy but they have plenty of indoor seating for just this occasion. The menu has tons for everyone so don't worry if you're not a big seafood fan like myself. You walk up and order and seat yourself, the restaurant and dining area was very clean even with all the wet rain. The staff was friendly and ordering was easy. It's such a small world turns out one the employees knows the same people I do from Montauk NY. It was such a pleasant trip down memory lane. The food was ready in a timely manner and no complaints from anyone, all the food was cooked well tastes good and disappeared. If you're in the area stopping at Champlins is a must. read more

Great lobster rolls and fish and chips,seafood is very fresh and it's very clean and organized.we came here 3 times this summer. It's a busy spot near block island ferry .
