First time trying this place--I had heard good things, so I was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, the food did not meet expectations. It was honestly some of the worst Tex-Mex I've had. The rice was hard, the trio appetizer tasted like canned beans and packaged guacamole, and the flour tortillas seemed store-bought. The carne guisada was also lacking in flavor. That said, the service was excellent. The staff was very friendly, attentive, and helpful, which I truly appreciated. The atmosphere was just okay--nothing special. I will say, the Mexican martinis were delicious. Overall, while the drinks and service were great, the food was disappointing.

We love coming here on Monday because of happy hours. We ordered a few appetizers and Mexican martinis. I like Maudie's and this location has a good ol' vibe and is our favorite of all.

We went here for an early dinner with our son and daughter in law on a Saturday. We arrived and were quickly seated (chips and salsa were being brought to the table as we sat down) and asked for our drink order. Our drinks we brought out quickly and the server then took our orders. We had guacamole and queso as appetizers which were plenty big enough and delicious. Our food arrived quickly and everything was hot and tasty. The el jefe tamales (my wife's dish) were served with beans and rice. The flavor was great, but it was odd that they were not wrapped in corn husks. The beans and rice were both flavorful and went well either way the tamales. The fajita tacos were well seasoned and very tasty (according to my son) and the quesadilla was very good and stuffed either way delicious filling. I had the chicken chile rellano which came with rice and beans and a couple hot flour tortillas. The beans and rice were very tasty. The rellano was served open face stuffed with shredded chicken and topped with cheese. It was ok, but the chicken lacked full flavor and the cheese sauce was a bit runny. The beer was cold and the margaritas were very good. Overall, a good dinner, with just a few things that could be better. Ambiance: 8/10 Service: 10/10 Food: 9/10

    Chicken fajitas were a letdown.

I was in Austin for SXSW and Maudie's Too came highly recommended by a former local, so I hopped a Lyft to have lunch. It totally wasn't worth the hassle and expense. I was hoping for tasty Tex-Mex since I was in Texas, but this place disappointed me in every way imaginable. The "dive bar" vibe is casual and comfortable, with a good-sized outdoor patio. We sat inside since it was a nice day and the patio was packed. This isn't a fancy atmosphere, and usually that's a sign of killer good food. The food here, though, is just okay. I'd more accurately call it "mediocre." We ordered queso and chips, chicken fajitas, enchiladas, and a margarita. Nothing was anything to write home about, and it was standard-issue fare. The fajitas looked like they came out of a bag, and the veggies didn't have that nice caramelized texture. The biggest travesty of all: the tortillas are not homemade. The black beans were disappointing, as was the queso (looked like something I could've made at home with a package of Velveeta). The enchiladas were the best thing about the meal. If you're seeking authentic style food with tons of spice and flavor, you're going to be disappointed in Maudie's Too. Even the margarita was forgettable. This wasn't the worst place I ate in Austin, but it's not somewhere I'd return. And yeah, the bathrooms are DISGUSTING and DIRTY.

I'd heard great things about Maudie's, but I can comfortably say I wouldn't go back. Although the service was incredible, the food was just not good enough to warrant a cleaned plate, let alone a return. The restaurant itself is quaint with fewer tables than I expected, but they have a great patio overlooking south Lamar close enough to see downtown. Unfortunately would not go back.

1/2 of my generous meal. Cheese enchiladas, rice and charro beans. Delicious!!

Stopped in here after a movie at Alamo for a take out order (because Jew Boys Sliders across the street was closed). This was an unexpected pleasant surprise, as my employer has brought in food for us from Maudie's, and I've never cared for it!! I ordered Josie's enchiladas and the meal was generous, delicious, perfection. Service was fast, friendly and a great value all around. Destined to be another favorite crave.

I received great, accommodating service here. I arrived before a rush of people. My meal hadn't arrived and I was ordering dessert. So I was at the table a while. I was feeling pressure from myself to speed up due to the number of people waiting, so I apologized to my server. She very kindly and *genuinely* told me that there was no reason to rush, I should enjoy my meal. No pressure for me to move along to free the table. My quesadilla was delicious! The chicken was cooked just right, and the cheese melted completely. There was a great deal of pico on the side provided as well. My sopapillas were fried perfectly and bigger than I anticipated! A very delicious way to end my meal. Finally, a chip and salsa comment--we all know we judge places on the quality of these! The chips were crunchy and non-greasy, and the salsa had a good burn to it. I highly recommend this restaurant!

First, the menu needs a rewrite for content and clarity. For example, buying fajitas doesn't list guacamole and based on size, single, for two and family you get more sides of rice or beans. There's no definition of how much actual meat you get and our server couldn't provide that information beyond a rough estimate. Second, the fajitas we got of family size and for two portions for 7 were not consistently cooked. We asked for medium rare and got about 25% at that with the ones in the center at a more well done. Again, the multiple tiny sides were more obnoxious than anything as it's legit beans and rice unless you want to upcharge. The cilantro lime rice tastes like nothing so skip that and go for abuelita rice which has a hint of flavor. Overall, the butter/gravy that go on the fajitas is the real winner but again a menu where you overbuy and misunderstand (that doesn't even list extras like guacamole or a simple small queso) was beyond frustrating. I would stick to them for one to possibly get a better cook.

Also on my friends second drink remembered she didn't want salt or her rim without even asking - Everything tasted so fresh and high quality - Brisket tacos: packed with flavor--maybe it was the wagyu meat or the black magic oil. Freshly made corn tortillas were awesome. Usually corn ones and pretty throwaway meh, but these added to the greatness of the tacos. 5 stars - Duck flautas: crispy covered in mild mole. Loved the mashed potato addition inside for some mellowness and texture. 5 stars - Guacamole: so fresh and that dollop of pesto on top was lovely. Served with crispy masa dippers were impressive almost a 8x11 page size. It was fun to crack off into pieces, but hard to stop eating it. 5 stars - Sweet potato: friend loved these long charred wedges. 4.5 stars - Cocktails were stellar. I got the Don Dario which was a play on a marg and delightful - $12 of a few drinks during lucky hour (Mon-Fri 5-6pm, Sat-Sun 3-5pm) - High energy vibes in a clean, open, tan colored space - Had their bottle water on the table in a champagne bottle which speaks to my heart Midlights: - In East Austin so have to Uber if you are staying more central - Tacos come in orders of 4.
