steer clear... pun intended. i have had the same experience there as the previous poster, and i would never go back. i went in for an inspection on a 5-year-old car and came out with a bill for $2000., for repairs he did not get my authorization on. in addition, the bill is always higher when you get there than what he quotes over the phone. now i go to riverdale oil change and service center, 303 west 230th st. they are honest reasonable, and they do excellent work. read more

New to the area and I looked them up for my first NY state inspection. Very busy Saturday but they got me in and out in a very timely manner . Soon after I had an object in my tire they were only place I knew so I went back it was 8am in morning as soon as they opened they were super nice had my tire repaired in about 15 min and I was on my way to work . Purchased 4 snow tires from Mavis less then 30 days ago. One went flat and we took the car in thinking they would replace it given the tires are not even a month old. NOPE! The charged us another $200 for a new tire claiming it was damaged due to a road hazard. I drive that care 2 or 3 days a week at no more than 40 MPH. There were no road hazards that damaged that tire. They just felt like stealing another $200 out of my pocket. Not good business. read more

This is my go-to auto shop. In the past five years, i've been here at least a dozen times for flat tires and brakes. Yes, the wait time sometimes exceeds the estimate. However, that's a small inconvenience in return for the service. Harry is as honest as the day is long. He won't LET you pay for anything you don't need and what he says you need is exactly what you need. Harry takes off Fridays, so ask for Dante if Harry isn't there . . . but Harry is always there even when he's not because that's the way he runs his business. What a find this place is. Anthony took care of us right away, and didn't try to sell me anything I didn't really need, or the most expensive tires. They did two tires,back brakes and rotors and a wheel alignment for a good price. They are Pleasant, professional and trustworthy. So much better than the other places in the area. This place is the best for pretty much everything, not just tires. They are honest and have very reasonable prices. you can schedule an appointment online, but usually I just go in and Harry sets me up right away. He is so incredibly nice. Once I went in there with a light out (i didn't even know which one, it was just an alert on my dashboard). He replaced it right away and didn't even charge me because it was a small light in the back somewhere. I am really not a car person, so it would be easy for a regular place to take advantage of my lack of knowledge, but this place has never screwed me over. In fact, they set me straight when on certain occasions I've had to go to the car dealership for computer issues, so at least I go in there knowing what Im talking about! The extra bonus is that they are walking distance to lots of other businesses, so you can definitely get errands done or grab a meal if you decide to wait for your car instead of dropping it off. They have a waiting room with a TV if you would rather do that It is also walking distance to the 1 train, so you could leave it in the morning, go to work in the city then get it at the end of the day. I used to live down the street from this location, and now I drive here from across the Bronx and pass several other mechanics along the way because I know I'm going to get great service and great prices. They quote the best prices around, and will honestly tell me if I can put off having work done, even though they could just as easily add unnecessary work to my bill. Came here the 1st time to correct shoddy work from another mechanic and have never looked back. I like that they are very transparent, and have a lot of pricing for services and parts on their website, and will apply their coupons and discounts to my bill even if I don't print one out. read more

I paid to have all the rotor replaced and brake pads. The car had incredible stopping power. I never seen my car stop so fast. I didn't think anything was wrong but in 3 months my pad were completely worn out. So I went back to the shop they said it was normal due to my driving. I was really? I tap on the brakes and rarely used them. I like to coast and slow down before I even hit the brakes. So then I want to another Mavis out in long island and I told them my story about how the other place mess up. They fixed my brake for the same 440 dollar fee so I paid 880 dollars so far with in the year for my brakes. Funny, one of the employee's from Bronx store became a Manager in the long island store but anyways. They fixed my brakes really fast. After that the car braked normally and the brakes lasted a year and some months. They also didn't lube anything correctly. So I had one dry bolt and one lube 14 mm bolt holding my pads. This is what my mechanic told me. I watch them do it so my brakes so it's facts. Why are people bringing there car to places like this is beyond me. Oh yeah I know what because we know nothing about cars. Now I know cheap little shop do better jobs than big corp. names like Mavis. Never again will I be sucker. read more

I needed a tire to replace a flat, and have gotten nothing but the runaround, rude service, and frustration in going to Mavis. When I first showed up, they said they were closing even though their website indicated that they were open till 8:30 that night. When I asked about that, I got an off the shoulder remark as someone walked past, saying, "Well, that's not what it is." Then the order was cancelled without an explanation, but I didn't find out about that until after I had shown up the following day to have the tire installed. However, there had been no call or notification. The manager appeared annoyed at me when I asked him why the order had been cancelled. The rest of the dealings were similar - unorganized, rude, and contentious. Too bad. The prices are good and it's convenient, but it's not worth this. read more

I bought tires here the first time about 10 yrs ago. It was a smooth and easy experience. I was treated with respect and have come back a number of times since. But this week was the first time I'd used them for an inspection. It was that time again and after my experience at another local business (please see my yelp from last year), I decided to call Mavis. I was able to book the appointment easily. I showed up, was given immediate, excellent professional attention and no one tried to sell me anything I didn't need. I saw that others called them rude. Outstanding service. I bought 4 new Goodyear tires from them over a year ago. Starting having an issue with 1 front tire that kept losing air. I went in 30 minutes prior to closing and they were very friendly and helpful. They got my car on the lift check all my tires and resealed them. No charge and no problems since. I went back a week later for an oil change and was in and out in 30 minutes with no appointment. Highly recommended! read more

Let me start of by saying... DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE FOR ANYTHING!!! A few weeks ago my vehicle broke down and the only place i know to take it to was Mavis Tire on broadway in the bronx. it was the worst experience ever breaking down on a highway. Anyway, the next morning the car is sitting outside mavis, i explain what happens and the first thing that comes out of Harry Melikian's mouth is "i don't know what's wrong with it, but it's not going to be cheap, it's gonna cost ya". before any diags were ran on the vehicle he already started setting me up to pay an arm and a leg and then some. Since they don't do electrical work at mavis he sent my car to another shop that does it for him. Soooo.. yesterday the car broke down again, showing the exact same symptoms that Harry Melikian said he fixed. he gave me his word it would not happen again. Mind you I paid Harry 898.00 to fix it the first time, so yesterday I ended up having to accompany the tow driver to the same place and after a few words with the guy who did the job the first time, I end up finding out Mavis Tires overcharged my by 600 dollars, he made 600 dollars for making a phone call. this man practically robbed me.
