Had it serviced. New tires and sensors and battery. The tire pressure light was on when I pulled out. So I pulled back in and was told to drive it for 25-50 miles. If it doesn't go off come back. Drove 50+ miles light is still on, so I went back. Not convenient. When I got there I was told to come back another day or wait 2-3 hours. Joe, the manager, is completely unprofessional. My wife has a tire issue. She's 30 miles away from home but around the corner from this Mavis and noticed the TPMS is reading low tire pressure, we think the tire needs a plug. She calls ahead of time, and Joe tells her to come that he'll get her sorted out. She does...she's only a mile or so away from Mavis before arriving. He turns her away because another client walked in the 5 minutes it took her to go from where she was parked to this location. This is not service. This is garbage service. She's on her way home now. I told her to fill up the tire a bit under 35 at the nearest gas station and take the drive. The moment she walked into their shop after calling, confirming, and driving there and popped up on their camera for this type of need, they are responsible for, at the very least, confirming her tire is safe to drive on, doing the plug, or telling her the tire is bad for her to replace it. Even if she had to wait. Even if it's 30 minutes to closing time. No, instead, he turned her away. This is how you run a business into the ground. Not to mention, he is the manager? Get rid of this kind of low-bar customer service, no value having employees. We will never even consider buying a piece of bubblegum from Mavis if this is the type of horrible service their employees give their customers. read more

I've made an appointment online for brakes and tires and my experience was excellent. Prices and parts were discussed before the order was placed. Best thing is no sales pressure and the order was professionally done. The advisors there were professional and easy to speak to and they even had patience to stay beyond closing time. Started my day getting my car serviced at Toyota. Was told I needed a new tire due to a bulging bubble. The price quoted seemed high and felt I could possibly do better. That's where Mavis comes in. I purchased a set of four tires rated for 65,000 miles. There is a list of negatives in relation to this purchase. 1. As the sales person priced out my tires, there were a number of discounts which really didn't amount too much. The young lady mentioned to me that I should get my front end alignment. I said to her I don't think they need it. There's no uneven treadwear my steering doesn't pull, she insisted that they wouldn't mount the tires unless I paid for the alignment. Of course I hesitated with my own responses and again was insistent on the rotation because I was going on a long trip later that week I decided to just go ahead. When I returned and came back to pay for the work, I asked to see the pre-and post read out for the alignment. the sales person came back to me and said our printers down so we can't print you out a report. Obviously, I was very annoyed and suggested that it seemed to be normal policy to hide that information. Later I call Customer Service at the corporate office. They were very nice but very unhelpful. they call the store and had the manager speak to me directly. I explain my plight to the manager who said he was just starting that week. He said he would get back to me the same day after calling Corporate. HE DID NOT! July 16th was the first time I was able to get back in the area and visit the specific store. 2. I asked when my tires should be rotated from when I first purchased them. The counter person did some calculations and said to me that I did not need to rotate them for another 25,000 miles which was half of the 65,000 mile warranty LESS the 7 1/2 thousand I currently have on the tires. Now! Most of us understand that you should rotate tires every 5 to 8000 miles. 3. I asked if the rotation and balancing was on my original work . Would it cost me anything? Response: yes, if you get an oil change at the same time. Of course, this was not explaining that way when I purchased the tires. 4. Mavis conducts the typical old fashioned, Lying, misleading deceptive practices. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE TIRES FROM THESE PEOPLE AGAIN. read more

Had to go back to this location 3x to have the problem rectified, to no avail. Staff at this location is rude and dismissive, at least in my experience, with scheduling issues to boot. Brought my car in for new tires. They were charging me $800 plus. They called me and told me it was ready. Came to pick it up and found out that one of the service guys scratch the entire front of my car. They apologized and took off $400. Now I have to pay over $1000 to get the scratches and dent fixed. It's a shame because I really liked this place and how professional , pleasant and accommodating the front desk rep was, but if I could, I would rate this place zero stars for dishonesty. I went in for 2 services and then told that my shocks also needed replacing, but this did not sit well with me because just a few months ago the dealer did a full inspection and the suspension rated satisfactory. Since that report I have only driven a light 2,800 miles and not to mention the vehicle has under 30,000 miles. So yes an addition $360 for a service that was not needed. Additionally, in doing research of online reviews this seems to be a common complaint with Mavis in general. Rated D on the BBB site. I reached out to their corporate offices, but almost 2 weeks later and no response, although the website states they will reach out in 48 hours. First and last time. read more

This was the worst experience I have ever had. I need a way to give less that one star. I took my car to this location on Feb 1st to replace my brakes and rotors and an oil change, which could have cost my life. At a glance, everything seemed okay, but 4 weeks later, I took my car to a local Mavis (Port Jeff, LI). When they looked at my brakes, they noticed one caliper was not attached correctly. The other was new but not right for my vehicle because the pad only partially touched the rear rotor. The Port Jeff location called the Rutherford location and tried to speak to the manager on duty when my vehicle was worked on. It turns out they were terminated recently. I asked them if they could verify if my oil change was done, and guess what? It wasn't. The regional manager, who reviewed the camera footage of the day my car was repaired, later confirmed this. The workers at the Port Jeff location ensured my vehicle was properly repaired. I had to go back and forth with the manager of the Rutherford store as to why my repair and the extra caliper the Port Jeff store added should be at no cost. The fact that the mechanic, manager, and district manager thought it was okay to play with my life and rob me shows me that this is commonplace at this establishment. They do not care about their customers and would; instead, no one finds out that they messed up to potentially save the life of a customer who drives 150 miles daily. read more

Went in for a wheel alignment on a Monday afternoon. I had done some much needed front end work to my old Mazda commuter car, and needed an alignment as soon as possible. I called Monday morning and they said "bring it right in". When I arrived at the location there were a few cars ahead of me (they do a lot of alignments there) and it was about a two hour wait and about an hour to complete the job. I found a 10.00 coupon online that they happily honored at pick up time. They provided a full report of all alignment specs as well. The car drives better now then it ever did. Justice at the front desk was friendly and made the whole process painless. I'd go back for alignments and tire services, they did a good job and run a good shop! read more

So while i was driving down route 3 one of my tires got messed up to the point that i had to call the cops and they had to call a towing company. I got towed here because it was the nearest tire shop. The guys here helped me with my inquiry and i was able to get 2 new tires with them. It's no wonder the ratings are so low, the manager is a moron, a liar, and a jerk. Needed a tire replaced due to a blowout from a road hazard, and figured I would get a slow leak I'd been having fixed as well. After being reminded twice they STILL FORGOT to check it. And then instead of just admitting that, dude tells me they checked and it was all fine. It's 100% NOT fine. This becomes an argument and him mansplaining his ignorance on how the TPMS works. I'll skip his grossly exaggerated explanation of how temperature changes effect tire pressure and skip to the big stupid. His position is that as soon as your tire pressure falls ONE PSI below recommended pressure the light comes on. Clearly anyone who has ever owned a car knows this is BS. Experience says it's about TEN PSI on my van. Go ahead and look it up- it's TWENTY-FIVE PERCENT of the recommended pressure... industry wide! So yeah, 9PSIon a 36PSI tire. So when ONE tire out of four repeatedly triggers the TPMS light and it needs 10lbs of air- THERE IS A PROBLEM!!!! Go ahead, screw your company out of easy money AND be a dick about it... makes perfect sense. My second issue is about the repeated insistence that I require an alignment just because I am getting a new tire. Simply replacing a tire doesn't necessitate an alignment anymore than rotating them would. Maybe I DO need an alignment, but the only way to know is to put it on the device and CHECK IT... which interestingly they did not do... Hmmmmm. So now I get to take my car somewhere else and pay THEM to fix the tire... and have them check the rest of their work as well. read more

Mavis offers free tire rotation with purchase of tires. I called ahead to schedule appointment. Representative told it wasn't required. I drove there to find out there will be hour and a half wait. I called other locations and got the same response. I went to a quick oil change place and had tires done for $26.00. So forget about free rotation if you want to wait an hour and a half for a 10 minute job. They are quick to sell you tires and tell you a dozen things wrong about your car. Warning to all women traveling alone from out of state, this is not a place for you to stop. Visiting NJ from Minnesota, drove my car as I was going to be staying with family for a few weeks. The first week here, got a nail in the bottom of my tire. My brother recommended Mavis, said they were in town, told me it was an easy fix and shouldn't be more than $40. Called Mavis first thing the next morning and they told me to come in, they weren't too busy. I was the only customer there, I waited while they took care of it. I knew when I saw him walking toward me with his clipboard there was more to come. He told me he couldn't fix it, it was too close to the side and they would have to order a new tire. He told me he looked up the tire and it was an expensive one, would take a couple days to come in. The tire would be around $275, add install, would be close to $400. I asked to see the tire, he took me to the garage. My car was up on a lift, the tire was completely off the rim and a guy rolled it over to me. I looked at it, it wasn't on the side, it was on the bottom. I said, you're sure you can't fix this? He said no. I told him to put the tire back on the car, I was going to take it someplace else. After that, he told me maybe a mom and pop shop would fix it, but they couldn't. That manager at Mavis saw a woman alone, driving a nice car with out of state plates and thought I would be an easy target. Shame on you! So, if you ever find yourself in this town, with a problem like mine, go straight to C&C Tire in East Rutherford. It was fixed within an hour for $30. read more

Rear tire kept going flat. Called Mavis in East Rutherford and brought it over. As long as I was there, figured may as well get an oil change. Told it would take about 45 minutes. Oil change was like 95.00 which is cheaper than I've paid previously at the dealer. Car was ready in time stated. Went up to pay for the service. I said what about the tire that I came in for? "don't worry about it, we fixed it" I was like whoa. Was not expecting that. Will definitely use Mavis as my go to for minor service. Everyone was super nice and a very clean facility. Needless to say the tech that did the work on my car benefited by the kindness of Mavis by way of larger tip than i normally would have given. read more

The experience I got explains why this place has such bad ratings. Made appointment, and upon showing up, guy says he's backed up and cannot service car until later. When asked what's the point of an appointment or why he didn't just say he was backed up over the phone, he then says they don't take appointments and is first come, first served. Instead of apologizing, he takes no responsibility and tries to make it seem like it was my problem. These types of places don't value customers nor do they care about creating relationships. The first two Mavis locations I stopped at, one told me my rear struts were completely blow out (they were not), and the second location told me I urgently needed both front and back struts replaced. I went to this location for a tire alignment, and they were fast and professional. The location manager, Peter, was extremely friendly and informative. I went in this morning and asked for my tire to get patched up- I knew i didn't need a new tire. The guy up front tells me it's an hour wait. I told him I loved a few blocks away and if it's possible for him to give me a call when it gets a little less busy (btw there were only two people in the waiting room) his actual response was "I'll definitely forget to do that." And my response was "Even if I left you a post it- would you forget?" And he actually said "Yes- yes I would." So naturally my response was "Wow- you must really be bad at your job then." He said "No, but if you want to leave your car here that could work." Uhmmmmm...... Didn't check till I got home noticed one lug nut was missing 3 instead of 4!!When I Went to my mechanic next day he said they overtorqued wheel and actually broke off lug nut screw and caused hundreds in damages! Should have ran after reading previous reviews! I They let me drive off without saying anything and mgr Jessie was rude and tried to say they didn't do it and I brought it in that way! Unfortunately I had a terrible experience here. I got a flat tire and brought my car here to get it patched. They told me it was 'irreparable' and needed a new tire. Since I was 70 miles from home, I had no choice but to buy a replacement from them - just to get me home. That evening I drove directly to my usual tire repair place and they immediately said that the tire was fine and could be patched. So, I had it patched. I felt I was taken advantage of, and tried to call this location, hoping they would make things right by at least refunding the tire (I am ok paying for the labor and balancing since they did the work). I called them 5 different times over a week, asking to speak to a manager and explaining the situation. Each time I was told they would leave a note for the manager to call me back. Each time no one ever called back. The last time I called the assist manager cut me off before I even had a chance to finish my sentence, saying they have 'strict policies' around refunds.
