The single worst shopping experience I have ever had. East Hanover Morristown New Jersey. I placed an order for tires a week ago, made an appointment for installation. Counter person asked if I would wait since it would take about an hour. He then booked me an appointment for Saturday at 8. I arrived on time and waited. After an hour I checked to see what the estimated time to finish was and he told me it might be done today. Might? I asked about the appointment and he then loudly lectured me and yelled in front of whole store, would a doctor appointment meant that's when you get seen? He told me the "appointment" was just telling me when to drop it off. I asked about his hour estimate for me to wait and he, again lecturing me, said that once my car is worked on it would be an hour. If I waited all day it might get done. I left obviously. Followup: new manager James at New Rochelle location has done his best to make this right. Partial refund and will get alignment printer fixed. Offered to check alignment again later on. I will also state that on my last visit to get rear brakes installed (on a different car) went well. That tech was very meticulous. Original review: Scratched 3 out of 4 rims installing 4 new tires. Tech pulled car outside without doing alignment. I caught that as I was waiting. Photos of wheels are posted. Alignment machine printer broken so no confirmation of work is possible. read more

What a completely awful experience. I made an appointment at the New Rochelle, NY location. When I arrived on time, they said it was deleted. Never apologized. I to wait an hour to get my tire fixed (took 15 minutes). They broke the organizer on the spare and dangerously overinflated the fixed tire. Don't go here as these people just do not care. read more

My experience at Mavis had three parts. My first part was when I called the store to see if I could get me 2 tires for my car they told me they only had two in stock and said they would have to let me know the next day if they in fact had the two tires in stock from their inventory. After careful consideration I thought it would be best to not wait for the two tires and to just get four new tires which I did the next day. Michael from the store helped me out I had the tires installed however the tires were over inflated by almost 10 pounds. The next day after driving 25 miles I went to tighten the lug bolts as per the notice Mavis has in the store, however I was unable to tighten many of the lug bolts because the decorative caps on the lug bolts were damaged. As I was explained to by Xavier at the Mavis location many automakers put decorative caps on the actual lug bolts, overtime water / temperature expands the caps and they are difficult to remove or they cannot be removed at all.   In the process of Mavis changing the tires the impact wrench had damaged some of those decorated caps. When I went to tighten up my lug bolts I could not as several of them were damaged and one of them was completely missing. The issue I have with this is that in my opinion Mavis should have made me aware that this had happened because if I would have gotten stranded on the side of the road I would not have been able to change a flat tire. I am in no way saying that Mavis is responsible for the design of the car manufacturer with the decorative cap on the lug bolts. However in my opinion if they did damage the decorative cap that they should have made me aware of possible solutions. Xavier did explain to me that if I bought new lug bolts without the decorative caps they would replace them which they did a few days later at no charge. Which I greatly appreciate and this has been done however my issue is one of safety.  Customers should be made aware of this before the work is done. In the end everything worked out I would buy tires again from them I just hope this is something that is addressed not only in this store but at the corporate level. read more

When I purchased a set of tires, I asked for a 10% "essential staff discount" that is still available online when I write this review. The clerk refused to apply it, saying that the program ended months ago. I reached out to the corporate about it. They made the store manager -Chris- called me who apologized and said the new clerk did not know about the discount. But the manager refused to honor the discount, did not even offer store credit. I contacted the corporate office a second time. No response ever since. I gave up getting the discount back. And I gave up on Mavis. So did my fellow firefighters. read more

Scheduled an 8am appointment to have two tires that I supplied to get mounted and a rim I supplied swapped. I Arrived at 7:50, doors didn't open until 8:10, was told 1.5hrs. 9:45 I watched the 3rd car that came in after me get in the shop. So I took my keys back and left. As usual, another untrustworthy mechanical shop. If I could sue these guys, I would. Went in for a routine inspection. For one, it took forever for some reason. Finally picked it up, and they told me they "discovered" a few "issues." Handed me a bill with an itemized list of the things they claimed I needed to have done to the car. In a nutshell... the struts needed to be replaced, the power steering system needed to be flushed, brakes needed to be looked at, etc. The total? Over $750 for everything. This was a few months ago and I was unemployed. I spent the next few months driving my car in anxiety, worrying that it was going to break down any second or experience a system failure and result in a crash. Couple months later, I found work at a car dealership of all places. I thought, hey, let me take my car to the service department and see what they say and perhaps they'll be able to give me a discount so I can have all this crap fixed and finally have my peace of mind back while driving my car. They take a look at the car, come back to me, and guess what they said? "Everything in your car looks great, the brakes and tires are new, and there's absolutely no problems with anything." Didn't know whether to be happy or enraged. My service advisor told me it wouldn't be the first time he heard someone complain about Mavis. In my opinion, the whole company is most likely full of corruption and I wouldn't be surprised if some whistleblower one day decided to reveal that they encourage their employees to mislead female customers. These guys are professional swindlers. Steer clear of Mavis at any cost. You're better off going to a family-owned mechanic shop or a dealership for your car's respective make. read more

I had to order 4 snow tires from the call center because they were a special order and was told they would be on Tuesday around 1. Quite possibly the worst (or at least 2nd worst after AAmco transmissions) auto care experience in my 55 years of driving. Had purchased two new tires elsewhere and needed them mounted on rear. Drove to Long Island from Staten Island because my brother-in-law said they had good prices even on labor. Waited for work to complete (really took forever), and without checking I paid and drove home to Staten Island. At home in Staten Island I opened the trunk expecting to find two old tires for me to dispose of. Surprise, what I saw in the trunk were the original new tires that we're supposed to have been installed. Drove all the way back to Long Island and told the manager he should get some crew that spoke English, because they didn't do anything that they were supposed to do, and, I can only mark this Fiasco up to the fact that no one in the shop was speaking English as they worked. read more

I have always heard negative reviews of this Mavis, but they must have switched management or ownership in the last few years, after reading the previous reviews I decided to give them a chance and was not disappointed. I came in this week to get my front brakes checked out. After about a 10 minute wait they brought me into the garage and explained to me exactly what I needed done with my car, as well as another issue that discovered on my back shocks. As someone who knows almost nothing about auto-repair I really appreciated this. I didn't feel pressured at all to take care of it that day, but was glad that they pointed it out to me. They were very clear in explaining everything that needed to be done and what my options were. They were having a brake pad promotion so the prices seemed very fair to me. Went in and ordered 3 new tires (had a flat and just replaced the other)., Gave them a weeks notice to order the ones I wanted. Dropped the car off late Friday afternoon, and made sure the tires were in. On Saturday my husband had am appointment and took his car, we waited for the call as to when my car would be ready. When the call came late Saturday afternoon, I had no one to give me a ride, so we told them we would pick it up first thing Sunday morning. When we went in the car had no been touched! No new tires! The Sunday manager had no idea why my car was not serviced and why when they called to say ir was ready they lied! The cars was then service and completed by 10:30 Sunday morning. my tire warning light was lit up on the dashboard. I brought it to Mavis and they told me to try using the digital air pump outside for free to equalise all the pressure to exactly the same pressure. The digital machine is much more accurate I was told. I did that (for free) and the light went off!!! I thanked Stephen for his help and asked to buy some replacement tire caps since i had two missing. he gave them to me for free. I went to have shocks put on my car 4 of them the tires were rotated and balanced. 2weeks later I went back for flat repair which at this time I was told the tire could not be repaired I needed a new one. I was then told I needed all 4 tires because the other 3tires were no good. How did they balance and rotate bad tires the first time when I went for the shocks. How is this possible are they so unreliable and dishonest in there. Different service managers who do you believe? read more

I don't even know if the did computerized alignment, check shocks and brakes. I asked one of the employees about my brakes and he said they were good; when I know that I have to change the brakes. That makes me question about all of the job that they did on my car. They didn't explain anything, they just want me to pay. read more

Thank you Mavis! Saturday night, 6pm, flat tire. I call BMW assist. They are no help as no dealer is open late Saturday or Sunday. Try AAA. They can tow me 3 miles, not really helpful either. I leave the car in my sisters driveway overnight. Sunday 8am I google tire repair and Mavis pops up. I call them- they're open 9-5, they can replace/repair my tire, no problem. I head over, the customer service was very good- friendly and kept me up to date. They took about 3 hours, totally reasonable on a Sunday when nothing else is open. Prices were reasonable. My car is all better now. I am so grateful that they had Sunday hours and were so friendly and easy to deal with for tires. read more

1. Grossly overcharged for the cost of parts. 2. Mechanic damaged brake system while changing suspension parts. (After much negotiations, I did get a refund for the labor I had to pay another mechanic to fix the damaged caused by Mavis). 3. Sold me suspension parts that I didn't need. 4. Told me I needed new brake pads when I had more than 50% of my pads remaining. 5. Used scare tactics to convince me into purchasing even more parts that I didn't need (but I refused to buy them). 6. Actually charged for some parts that my other mechanic said were never installed. Manager looks me in the eye and basically said that my other mechanic is a liar. 7. Requested a price for an oil change, was quoted 30% higher than my usual mechanic. Bottom line? STAY AWAY!!! Go anywhere else. read more

It's terrible. Worst place ever. Stay away! They completely ripped me off. After receiving a quote of $80+taxes for a tire change, I took my car there. They ended up charging $201. Not really sure if what I requested has been done, asked for an oil change and tire rotation. I have one odd tire and it's in the exact location it was when I brought my truck into them. Hhhmmm!!! I even asked had it been done but didn't notice the tire had not been moved until after my departure. I'll have my husband check to see if the oil is clean. read more

Got home, waited until the next morning and I had tire pressures ranging from the correct 30 psi up to 38 psi. They tried to sell me a power steering flush for $79. Checked that also when I got home, not only was the fluid clean, they said it was muddy, but Honda themselves says the fluid never needs to be changed. I drove back and forth to Florida the next week, got my oil changed at a different shop when I got home. They showed me the oil, recommended I flush the engine. I have never had any issues like that before with all the city driving I do. I certainly shouldn't have it with 2,600 miles on the highway. I doubt they even changed the oil. I will never use them or any other Mavis ever again. read more

I've been to my local Mavis (North and Lincoln in New Rochelle) many times and always been happy with their service.

Called Chris the manager, before heading there to make sure tires were in stock, which they weren't. Chris put in an immediate order and although there was an impending snow storm, he promised he would have them there for me later that afternoon. Got a call that they had arrived and headed out in the storm. When I arrived, Chris took very good care of me and I was in and out within an hour. Great prompt service...very good customer service. Note: I did send an email to corporate regarding a pricing adjustment and was quite surprised when I got a PHONE CALL from Joel in corporate within a half hour of sending it, rectifying my situation to my satisfaction. Called to try and schedule an appointment and was told by Larry not needed just mention your name and we talked and everything will be good. I get there and told appointments are first come first serve and it would be a 2+ hour wait. When I told them what was told to me I got blank stares. They lied about the number of staff and gave me a runaround. When all was said and done I had no choice to wait and 3 hours later I finally left. This will be the LAST time I give Mavis any business. Against recommendations NOT to use them, I called Mavis in Saraland AL and had them order two tires with a scheduled appointment the Saturday before Memorial Day. Unbeknownst to me, I was speaking to NY call center. When I showed up to get tires installed, I was told there were "5 cars ahead of me and they were wanting to get out of there by 5 PM". I asked why no one bothered to call and let me know they couldn't get to my car today. The guy said they "don't really communicate with the call center" and I could come back Tuesday. I won't be back Tuesday, or ever. If you can't call a customer and save them from killing a day to NOT get service, you're not getting a do-over. They are choices, I will choose another store.
