My daughter needed an inspection on her fairly new car that has roughly 15,000 miles on it. She was told it failed inspection because she needed $700 worth of repairs. My husband said no. Picked it up, took it somewhere else and no problem. They took pictures to prove we were lied to. When I arrived, I was taken care of immediately. I chose to wait for my vehicle since it was only in for an oil change and brake check. The manager (sorry, didn't get his name) worked with me. He gave me the findings of the brake check. Explained that the repairs weren't urgent and quoted me a price for the repairs that I chose to schedule at a later date. No pressure -just understanding and information. While I was waiting, it became clear that both of their tire techs called out sick. They had people scheduled. Daniele was the employee at the desk. She called those people and explained that there would be delays and explained the situation. She gave the customers the option of rescheduling or dropping off with a later pick-up time. normally have decent experiences but last time I was there they made us all wait hours just to tell everyone there that they magically needed thousands of dollars worth of work all of the sudden. even after I said I wasn't having the work done had to wait an additional hour while my vehicle sat there and they did nothing. didn't see a single customer happy about the prices they were paying for service that day. had the same work done elsewhere for a fraction of what they said it was gonna be. used to think they were fair with what they charge now it's clear they just wanna blow smoke up your *** to get you to pay thousands of dollars. read more

I have taken our families cars to this location and I have always received honest and amazing service on our vehicles. They go out of their way to make sure things are right and do not try and sell you something you don't need. Tire prices are the lowest in town including places like BJ's. Was shocked that the dealership tried to sell me on a brake job which I had done several months ago and turns out all I needed were new pins. I made 4 appointments with herkimer mavis and 2 with NY mills. Every appointment I was told they couldn't do my NY inspection. First time they told their tech wasn't available on that day of the week, 2nd time they told me he had an emergency, the third time they told me he wasn't back and the fourth time they moved my appointment to a later time than the previous three and I couldn't make it and they didn't take me in at 8am when all my appointments were for that time. Horrible. Not like I needed an extensive service. Just a simple inspection but the company is no good. I will not be buying tires here or other Mavis stores any longer. I made two appointments in NY mills after this and both appointments were canceled when they told me their machine is down. read more

this is my second time having a problem with mavis. first time I was 17, they took advantage of me being young and priced me astronomically high for the service I "needed". turns out I went somewhere else and I needed nothing done. now I had a scheduled... keep in mind, scheduled inspection since last Thursday, for today at 8am. this morning I was 3rd in line with an appt, it is now 11:15 and I called to find out they haven't even touched my car. called again 20 minutes later and they just got to it but it would take 45 minutes. super fed up with how they handle things here. read more

I love this place and the people who work here so much. I recently moved here and had no idea where to go, so I chose this place randomly and could not be happier with their work! A lot of time women like me walk into car places and are seen as easy targets to be taken advantage of, so I was a little nervous. However, I was treated with respect and kindness the multiple times I've been there. They are upfront and honest about what your vehicle needs, they don't make up anything unnecessary to get money out of you, and they do very good work. Their prices are the best too. Was given excellent service, they not only put in a new air stem valve they patched my tire as well and let me know that the problem was coming from a cracked rim. Sent my wife there 11/19/2019 to have the muffler check because I had to work and the muffler got loud they told her she need parts that needed to be ordered and it was going to be $750.00 I told her no .I took it today 11/21/2019 to TP Brake and Muffler Inc. price was $175.05 parts , $38.00 labor . I use to always use Cole Muffler and they were good now with Mavis they lost me as a customer . I feel they tried to take advantage of my wife because she's a woman . read more

I'm actually sitting in Mavis writing this. These guys are great and I've never had a problem with them one bit. I've gone to other places but always come back here with something I couldn't do myself and I'm always glad I did. I was given a fix it ticket the other night so I brought my car here and told them everything so they got me in right away before I have to go home leave for work and drop the ticket off. I would suggest them to anyone. If you can do something yourself of course do it yourself but if you can't , then come to these guys. read more

Mavis Discount Tire in Johnstown, NY has a problem with labor. Took my car in to swap out Coil springs and rear upper control arm. After sitting in lobby for 6 hours they got car inside and up on rack only to have mechanic Relies that it was not a coil over swap but just a spring swap and they did not have the tools to do it. Manager then said he had to write up an estimate which took over an hour because he took other care of other customers instead of doing the estimate. This is the third time I have gone to them in 3 weeks to get this done. read more

We had an appointment today at Mavis Discount on Commercial Drive in New York Mills, NY. We came in first and they claimed they had no recollection of our appointment and was very rude. They did the oil change. We left and noticed they didn't put enough oil in, so we went back. When they were finished the girl backing the truck out continued being rude. We have video evidence of her threatening to clock out and punch me because I asked if that was the girl who was previously rude to us... paying customers. Not a place we will ever go again and recommend no one else goes there either. There are so many other local places to have work done with friendly staff! So disappointed... read more

Can't give a zero or I would. My wife needed an alignment and two new tires. I couldn't be there so I told her to ask to have the same style and brand of tire she has on the back of her car. Instead they put some garbage tire on that wore out in a matter of a couple months. My guess would be because they did her alignment wrong. After the first visit she went back to have the alignment fixed again. This was within two days of the first appointment. They attempted to do another alignment and made it worse than the first time. I did not find out until almost a week after the second appointment since I don't drive her car very often. When I told her it needs to go back, she told me that the mechanic said it wasn't their problem if it's still bad. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!! My wife told me it was pulling to the right worse than first time straight from the garage! DO NOT use this shop for any work! They don't deserve to be in business. Update: I took the car to another garage. They did the alignment and put two new tires on (the ones I asked for, I might add). They did the alignment and told me there was nothing wrong with the front end and that they couldn't believe the alignment was off by that much. Even if they had eyeballed it, they could not have gotten it that wrong. It borders on being done wrong purposely to try to make a point. This is sickening. It cost me over $300 to fix the issues that I had already paid Mavis to do. I, obviously, will not be doing business with them again and I suggest you don't either. read more

While the people were nice, there were several things wrong with the work they performed on my car. The breaks they put in could not have been new, because they squeal as loud as a screaming child, they forgot to give back my tire tool, AND perhaps worst of all, they didn't tighten my tire and I have been driving like that since until a different car repair place found it. It could have caused an accident had it not been caught. I will not be going back. read more
