Terrible customer service. I walked in with a problem caused by their inability to install a tire and am asked to wait an hour to get it looked at. I guess saying " hey valued customer let me look at that " they shove their sub standard work to the back of the line. I should have guessed as much. The guy ahead of me had to remind them to use the proper size socket on his wheels! Of course they take zero responsibility for or attempt to fix what they mishandled. Had a slow leak on my one tire wanted them to look at it, guy in the front said 59 to see if it's fixable. 45 min later he said the one tire with a leak had a nail and isn't able to fix it and recommended I get a second tire also. As a female car owner, I Strongly advised against using this business located at 314 Medford Ave, Patchogue, NY. I initially went in to purchase tires. A grimy looking disrespectful looking employee, who checked me in, informed me that my inspection was due by the end of the month. Both the owner and the grimy employee rudely informed me my vehicle failed, due to rotor, suspension, brakes, & the exhaust system. Mind you that I recently had these problems corrected, (within the past six months). of which both employees acknowledged. I also drove the vehicle into the shop, with no issues whatsoever. However, after I questioned their feedback. The two employees rudely and aggressively told me they don't like when a customer tells them how to do their job, or question their advice. The cost for the fabricated repairs was well over $2,800.00. Lastly, the grimy employee threw the failed NYS paper which only stated Monitor EVAP Not Ready Monitor 02 Not Ready Moreover, none of the issues they attempted to con me into having completed at this shop was listed. Finally, when they finished putting the tires on, and giving me the keys. I had no brakes and a severe oil leak. Beware, & Avoid this business at all cost. They don't make a profit from selling tires. Only by damaging your vehicle, and attempting to bullying customers into having the costly repairs done at this shop. Unfortunately, I didn't read the reviews in advance of patronizing this business. However, it appears this location has an extensive history and pattern of poor service, unscrupulous business practices, and rude & disrespectful employees. Horrible. Came in to swap a set of wheels and tires. One set was a slight bit bigger then the other that being the sidewall (less than a 1/2 inch difference). They refused to do the swap because of this. I asked questions to understand what they were concerned about but they wouldn't give me a straight answer. The disrespect I received from the older gentleman in the shop because of my age is absurd. Staff assumed I have no knowledge of cars and chose to make a comment refering to my job title. Also given it was 5pm and shop closes at 6pm they didn't seem to want to do the job. Even though I put a call in earlier to ask if that would be ok even providing a time range of when I would arrive. The comments made include: "given you don't know much about this sort of thing" as well as "I wouldn't ask you to install the wrong glass on the car" Mind you I have been working in shops for 10 years. They made a point to tell me I was the last car of the day, so I can't help but feel they rushed everything. The next morning my car had smoke coming from the exhaust pipe and was jolting when I accelerated. I blew out a tire on the LIE (495) near Riverhead on my way home to Maryland. After several phone calls, including to AAA, I finally got the right advice from Scott at Mavis in Patchogue on Rt. 112. They had my special run flat tire in stock, and he advised that I could, in fact, drive there slowly and safely (contrary to AAA's advice). They had me going in less than an hour with that new tire. Everyone at the shop was terrific! Thanks for getting me back on the road and safely home. My car's alternator went on me this morning on my way to work. I went to Mavis in Patchogue. I got my car diagnosed. I new it was the alternator because I googled it first. I got a new alternator, belt and had my oil changed since I was there. The manager was courteous and worked with me to get me a good price. Everyone who came in for service was treaded the same. I was in and out in a very timely manner. I thought the worse when I saw the battery light go on, on my dashboard but it turned out to be just a nuisance after going to Mavis. They took good care of me. I left feeling I was well taking care of and not feeling like I was just ripped off like other places I have gone to. NYS inspection FAILED because my tires were lightly worn but within acceptable levels. I asked the technician if he would replace the tires if it was his vehicle and he replied "Hell no!" As others have stated, this location is trying to FORCE a sale. If I am uncomfortable driving on a tire that is still considered safe by the NYS DMV then it's up to me to make that decision. I really hate driving down the Long Island Expressway (495). In the winter it's riddled with potholes and uneven surfaces. I know this because driving on it the expression one night I hit two potholes that destroyed my front, driver side tire (I bought these tires eight months ago). Lucky, I was able to make it home on my run flat tire. So I went to the best mechanic to look at the damage.....obviously it was my local guy (hopefully you didn't think Mavis) and he told my I needed the exact tire. We looked online and couldn't find that particular model. Finally he tried Mavis. Mavis had it, I needed it, so I went. Armed with my spare tire and a urgency to get to work, I drove to Mavis. The manager, if that's who he was at the front didn't greet me when I walked up to the counter. He didn't even seem interested in helping for that matter. I gave him my order number (they send it to your email when you call over the phone; very convenient) and your checked in. But other that telling me a price over the phone, he did little to answer any of my questions. With body shops, it's hard to know what you're really going to pay. They add questionable charges after the fact. I like to know ahead of time to be prepared when the time came to pay. However, he didn't answer many questions. Most of the time unfortunately, I was there just waiting......and waiting, to get my car done. Finally after giving up hope they would take my car that day, they grabbed it. They did the job and rolled it out. I started to make my way to pay and sure enough there were those added changes. A charge for balancing the tires, a charge for disposing of the tires and labor. Why couldn't he just tell me that so I wasn't slapped in the face? Either way, I don't plan to go back. Strongly recommend avoiding Mavis Discount Tires store number 53 in Patchogue. After ordering tires from Amazon and having them shipped to this location for installation. I was disappointed to find they damaged all of my rims around the center caps. After being instructed by other companies that due to the damage the rims will need to be refinished. I contacted corporate 4 times and was instructed they will call back which never happened. After speaking to the store manager I was instructed on how they use plastic tools and could not have caused the damage. The only problem with his explanation is the truck is a 2021 with 21000 miles and Mavis was the first company to replace the tires and perform the alignment. The man at Mavis told me I needed a whole new tire, he said the hole was way too big to patch, which I thought was weird because AAA offered to plug it when they changed it for me, and you could see it was a screw. Not "a huge bolt" like the man said. I said no thank you and brought it somewhere else where they informed me that Mavis probably just wanted to sell me a tire, and would have sold my old tire, because it was brand new, and they said it could absolutely be patched. DO NOT GET ANYTHING DONE HERE! I had my sons jeep alignment done here and he picked it up and it was still off. I had to bring it back that week. Eh I gave them a chance to do my tires for the rear of my car and I got an estimate from a Victor on the phone. He gave me a price with his discount. It was $289. I went and dropped off the rims. I called the next day and just wanted to tell the supervisor to just let it be known that they are both rear and will be opposite rotation. Driver side and passenger side. Vinny was good with that and then I just wanted to ask if they match prices since it says it on their MAVIS website. I asked if he will match another company up the road and he said nah we can't do that. Then he said "you shoulda asked us when you dropped them off". I said "I was only asking because I saw the PRICE MATCH online. So $276 vs $289 eh whatever." He then again said "I'm not making any money. I told him "Don't worry I will still get em from you guys" then he called me back 5 mins later with an even higher price of $304. Lol I said "Nah Vinny you just messed up this deal and glad you didn't touch my rims. Don't do them I'll pick them up.!" This place literally is GARBAGE. These reviews are dead on point!!!! I am going to start with a positive and give a compliment to Chris who provided me with excellent customer service. It is unfortunate that everything after that was a negative. I purchased a new rear passenger tire on June 18, 2023. The mechanic put on the tire, I tipped him, I paid for the tire and the warranty and went on my way. I returned a few days later ( as stated on my paperwork) to have the tire retorqued. It took two seconds but I still gave a tip to the employee and he was more than happy to take it. A few weeks go by and I noticed same tire is losing air. The other three are at 36 and this one is dropping from 35 to 31 so obviously something is not correct. I called Mavis and explained the situation and " Mr. Not so great customer service " said " yeah, you can come in but I've got other cars so you'll have to wait." Not the best approach but i arrived and honestly the wait wasn't too bad but you now what was bad? "Mr. Sneezer. " The employee behind the counter had an attitude and was sneezing all over and never washed his hands. He was wearing gloves and a mask but was sneezing and removing the mask and never changed the gloves. The mechanic looked at my tire and said I had a hole in it. I'm no statistician but what are the odds that the same exact tire now has a hole in it a few weeks after i purchased it? If there is a statistician reading this, please chime in. I explained that it seemed quite odd that the same tire is now flat and " Mr. Sneezer" gave me an attitude, treated me poorly, and blamed me for running over something in the road. Folks, I 'm talented in many ways but I never knew that I had the ability to aim my car just at the angle to hit that one tire, seems like a skill I'll be adding to my resume. They tell me they're patching the tire and I explained that i just purchased the tire and took the warranty and wanted a new tire. They did not like that idea and were very condescending and one random dude yells out " tires good." Hey, why don't you put it on your car if it's so great? This place cares more about a buck than the safety of their customers. I reached out to corporate and they were very accommodating and said I should have received a new tire and that Liz, the district manager would be calling me. Liz never called but Jim who is the service manager called and disagreed with the fact that I should have received a new tire. Whether the tire was covered by the warranty or not, they should have done the right thing to make sure the needs of the customer were met. The original Mavis I went to ( in Nassau) when my tire was going flat was unbelievable. The young man was kind, accommodating, and wanted to do what was best for his customers. It is unfortunate that not all Mavis employees attended the same training program. And I told Mavis that I'd be writing this review so there should not be any surprises. My daughters tire was low and we discovered she had a nail. Brought the car to Mavis (purchased two new tires 2 months ago from this exact store) and asked to get it fixed. Encountered TIM who was obnoxious to everyone who was there. Mostly women. Let him know we had an account there and he yelled that they dont do wholesale work on the weekends. He told us he can look at it in 2-4 hours so we left it there. He called in an hour to let us know the car was unsafe to drive and that we need two new tires now. He said he would waive the repair cost if we agreed to buy the two tires. Just bad business. We agreed to purchase one new tire so he charged us for all these misc things. $25 plug, $7 stem, $20 balancing, $187 tire. And damaged the rear rim as well. Had to order the 3rd and was told $105 a tire plus $15 for balancing, which seems low, but I wasn't going to argue. Also there was a $80 rebate for Goodyear tires with purchase of 4. Went back today and got all 4 tires, but when I was rang up the total was $983, which came out to $199 a tire. I complained but was simply told I was misquoted the day before. And when I asked for the rebate I was told that the particular model of Goodyear wasn't covered. This is total and complete bullshit. I expected a $550 bill plus a $80 rebate. I was charged over $400 more than expected and got a "sorry" when it came to the rebate. It's a good thing Mavis corporate cares about repeat business because Mavis located on Medford Ave in Patchogue, NY does not. What a bunch of unprofessional amateurs at this location with an owner or manager who is a complete a-hole. Took my car in for a NYS inspection this morning and for the usual oil change and tire rotation. I am a repeat customer with a long history of doing business at this location. They call to inform me that one of the wheel studs is stripped and it will cost me $125 to fix and, of course, it won't pass inspection without the repair. There were no stripped wheel studs on the car before I dropped it off, and that's a fact. Now, wheel studs don't cross-thread or strip themselves but an idiot with an impact wrench will do the trick, especially if he's turning the lug nut in the wrong direction with one million pounds of pressure on the wrench. When doing automotive mechanical work, sometimes bad things can happen and that's OK. What's not OK is charging the customer to pay for your mechanic's mistakes. Just fix it and don't charge me for the repair. Unlike the schmucks at this location, Mavis corporate handles themselves in a professional manner and was able to resolve my complaint to my satisfaction by issuing a voucher to mostly cover the cost of the unnecessary repair. The only looser here is Mavis on Medford Ave. Check my record, Scott, you looser. I've spent plenty of money here but I won't hand over another a dime not will I ever return to this location. I went to this Mavis for an inspection on a 2017 Nissan. This car was in perfect condition with under 50,000 miles on it. The very rude gentleman that helped us was an older guy with terrifying veneers and white hair. They said that to pass an inspection on the car he would need $1,500 of repairs on the car, so I told them I'll just pay for the inspection and go get a proper inspection done at a real mechanic. They gave me the keys and I took the car out of the shop, I went about 10 seconds down the road before my car started violently shaking and the gas pedal seized up. My car was now dead on the side of the road. I now have over $3,000 of repairs to get done and they took responsibility for nothing. The car ran perfectly before I went to Mavis and instantly stopped working after leaving. The man who helped us seemed like he wanted to be anywhere else and didn't seem like he knew what he was doing or talking about. If I could give this place 0 stars I would but yelp doesn't allow it. SCAMMERS ALERT. Avoid this place at all costs. Brought my vehicle for a basic safety inspection. A short while later my phone rings and they claim i need TWO new tires and brakes. All of which i checked before i left the house, one tire was borderline but that was about it. So i take a ride up there to have a laugh, i let him know that 3 out of 4 tires are less than a yr old. So they take me in the back and measure the tire in front of me, roughly 3/32" on the most worn tread, which is good according to NYS (2/32" minimum). I inform them of that and they seem all confused, so i explain the NYS inspection standards for tires to them, they agree and say ok well " its not leaving here without brakes", because the pads are at "2mm". Again i laugh and ask them what the minimum thickness for brake pads on disc brakes in NYS is to pass safety inspection, crickets.....i patiently wait while they try to look it up on the computer. Coincidentally the computer wasnt working. SO again, i explain to them their is no minimum measurement given by NYS, meaning as long as it is not metal on metal then it passes. Their "inspector" claimed "well i dont care what NYS says, i think they need to be changed thats my opinion". Mind you all of the pads have anywhere between 1/8" and 1/4" thickness left. So after physically showing them that my vehicle passes safety inspection, they ring me up for $37 and tell me my vehicle failed the inspection. They are of course unhappy because i exposed their scamming to a lobby full of customers, after a short argument trying to avoid paying $37 for their attempt at scamming an ex mechanic, im called a c*cksucker by the front desk guy who then throws the paperwork at me as im walking out. I feel bad for anyone without knowledge of cars that takes their vehicle to this place, you will be scammed. Almost forgot the best part, after he measured the tire and realized it passed nys standards, i told him that tire was changed within the past year. He says " I dont know where you got this tire from but if it really was changed recently then they must have given you a used tire" unbeknownst to him, he personally sold me that tire. Took over 2.5 hrs to mount one tire and check another. I asked what is going on and didn't get an answer. The second tire I asked them to check did have a nail, but they just patched/repaired it without even asking me and then wanted to charge me $50 for the patch. I would have bought a new tire had I known, instead of blowing $50 on a patch job. Now my tire is unbalanced and I need to buy a tire to replace it. The front desk guy Robert was rude and unfriendly. I went in for an inspection and then was told I need rear breaks. Then they took it for a test drive and told me I needed wheel bearings. Had a friend with a lift take a look and there was a tear on the inside front tire. They have it up on the lift to do the inspection and put the brakes on but the miss the tear in the tire? Blew out a tire last week. Put spare on and picked the closest tire spot to where the flat occurred. Unfortunately that was Mavis. Although the people were fine, whoever did the work did not even match the size of the new tire with the other three. I suppose it is on me to double check, but not being a car guy I expect the experts to at least use the correct size of tire. The manager said this won't have lasting negative effects on my car, but I won't be frequenting a tire shop that can't even get the size right. They did a complete front and rear end suspension replacement on 240Z. Unfortunately they reversed front and rear spring which makes front run very high and bottoms out in back. This was obvious when I picked it up and I was advised they may settle in. Beyond the bottoming-out fender damage which I did not discuss with them, they refused to swap correct front-to-back. They basically took position that incorrect installation of springs, which are marked on the top F and B, was my problem and required second labor charge.
