Bought the warranty for $173 then 2 weeks later had a blow out and they want $265 for me to replace my tire with the warranty. A tire with no warranty is only $287.99. I guess they don' do math well because that did not save me but $22. At this rate i need to have 9 more blowouts to have the warranty worth it. Do not use Mavis Tire at 19th and Texas. Went in for a brake check and left with a $1,000+ quote for repairs. When I called my brother--who's a mechanical engineer and has worked in auto shops--he confirmed the pricing was absurd. I went to the Toyota dealership and apparently most of what I was told needed to be done wasn't even necessary. Ended up paying less than $200 at the dealership. It honestly felt like they were trying to take advantage of me. When I declined the service, the employee got noticeably short with me. Then, I waited over 30 minutes for my car to be put back together, only to find out it had just been sitting out around the corner, ready to go. No one bothered to tell me, and I had to track down someone else just to get my keys. I thought that whole situation was a little odd. Between the absurd pricing and the weird treatment after I said no, the whole experience was a little uncomfortable. Would not recommend if you are a naive-looking young woman. read more

I went to the location at 19th St and Texas Ave in Lubbock, TX to get a tire repaired that had a screw in the middle of the tread with no sidewall damage. The screw was short a barely went into the inside of the tire. After it was removed from the wheel the manager said that it could be patched as there was no damage other than the hole but due to the code on the side of the tire it was determined to be a four year old tire and he could not repair it due to the age. I had a new tire placed on the car which ended in a cost of $250.14. I kept the tire and took it to 2 other tire repair places who both said it could be easily repaired with the second one doing so and putting it back on the car. I have had good contacts with this Mavis location in the past but will never return. read more

I called them they said to come in when I got off work. I went straight there. I was in and out in an hour. Oil change. Right now they have a 10 dollars off special. I have a mini cooper, perfect. Fast, professional, answered all my questions. Very clean waiting area. There's water and I believe coffee. They didn't treat me like I stupid because I'm a women. The staff is friendly, honest, informative, and thorough! Not mention they changed my rotors and brakes in one day. They are hard workers!They also have financing options in the event that it becomes too costly, but on the free check they thoroughly check everything on the vehicle that needs maintenance. Thanks to a recommendation by a local friend on where to go to fix flat while traveling on a Sunday through Lubbock. Our spare was okay but we really needed the flat fixed for the rest of our journey home. "Rick's" was our solution. Open on Sunday, easy to find location and after short wait, we were on our way. The place is not woman friendly. This guy just sold me everything he could think of. He even tried to sell me windshield wipers. I went in for 2 tires because my set wore bad. (this was a set I purchased earlier). The guy said that I needed a whole new set and he wanted to sell me brakes. At 87000 I probably only needed pads, but he said, without even checking the brakes, that I needed calipers & rotters all the way round. So instead of getting a bill for $150-200 for 2 tires, I got a bill for $1100. He took advantage of me; I can't see him trying to pull that on a man. Also, I didn't get a good alignment job; the car wanders left and right. I requested nitrogen fill in the tires but they say they don't do that no more. I feel so screwed over that I don't want to go back and deal with this company. They recently sold out to Mavis. It looks like they let a lot of people go or a bunch of them quit. I have read the other reviews and believe them to be true. I did not have any problems as long as Donald was the owner. After Rick's Tire changed ownership, I was concerned that I may not get the same honest service. I would have to go to the competition, where, every time instead of fixing the flat, they would try to sell me a new tire. Has anyone else had that experience ? I have been to Rick's three times since the change of ownership, I really have nothing to complain about. I believe there has been some changes in the leadership there. I got a fair price for new tires and they fixed the flat without trying to sell me a new tire. Maybe Rick's can do some service recovery by continuing to provide good service and offer free balancing and rotation like the previous owner did. read more

Terrible customer service they goudged a spot on my new truck ""Looks like a jack handle to me"" They write on my invoice that "we put a scratch on the truck" then when I came back to see the manager about it he says "there is no way of knowing if we did it" This is the 2nd time I've had trouble with them since they were bought out by a national chain. Don't waste your time with this crew. If you want to be taken advantage of and at least feel decent go to Discount Tire. If you want the full on work over go to Ricks. If you want to be taken care of in Lubbock go to McWhorters. Spent 1600 on tires and got the run around on warranty issue. Sales guy blamed my wife for hitting a curb instead of getting the right story. Changed their tune when I came in and tried to apologize. This place is a joke! My girlfriend bought a new set of tires from these guys last year and they broke 2 studs off of one hub and 2 tire pressure sensors while they were replacing the tires. They replaced one sensor and "fixed" the other instead of replacing it like they should have, they replaced the two studs. She took her expedition back today to have the tires rotated and balanced, they came back into the showroom and told her the tire was ruined because she had driven it with a flat. She had not even had a flat, let alone driven it flat. I spoke with the service manager and asked him to show me where the tire had been repaired but he could not. The tire had no damage to the sidewall and no heat ring around the outside of the tire, that kind of damage would indicate that it had been run flat. The service manager followed me outside and told me he did not want to lose our business but refused to replace the tire, he told me that if I could find another shop that would say it had not been run flat then he would replace it. I went down the street to discount tire and was told that there was no damage to the sidewall and no evidence on the outside of the tire to suggest that it had run flat. I went back to Ricks and told the service manager this and he ignored me and walked away. When the guys at discount pulled the tires to replace them, one of the studs that Ricks had replaced fell off. I have 5 delivery trucks along with my personal vehicles that will no longer be using this place. read more

I was looking for an alternative to the other Large Chain Tire store in Lubbock, as it seems like it takes forever to get anything done in a timely manner that was warrantied. I decided to give Ricks a try, on a new set of tires. Yes the other store was a bit cheaper, but I am looking for service!!! Went in at 12:15pm... The clerk said they could get right on it... There was one vehicle in a bay when I got there. My pickup went in at 12:25pm... There was one other customer in the building. I finally left at 2:45pm!!!! There is absolutly no reason that changing out 4 tires should take close to 3 hours. Desk clerk apologized, but I think he knew I won't be coming back. I guess I will keep looking for a Tire dealer that won't make you wait for hours on end to get a job done. If they would post a no star that is what I would have posted. read more

Marcus was awesome and was able to coordinate us a driver to go and pick up two new tires for us (they didn't have them in stock) and run them out to us south of town. Having been a loyal customer of Discount Tire company, I became dissatisfied when one of their salesmen told my wife her tires needed replacement and still had 5/32 tread. I wonder how many people have bought tires unnecessarily since they changed from being honest? I had heard Rick's was honest and bought a set of Yokahama G055 tires several weeks ago. Their prices were competitive and they were ready for me at the time of my appointment. Fast and courteous and no hard sell for additional services. They also did a free alignment check. Time will tell, but they served me well on my first visit as a customer. read more

I called the other location and the gentleman said he doesn't have keys for the store on 19th and said I could come to his location. Worst place ever! Joke of a shop! My sister went only to get her tires rotated and the manager did an all around diagnostic and said that she needed brakes Immediately that they were rubbing metal to metal! And that they wanted to install all new rotors and pads $600! I was at work when she was there so they had the opportunity to pressure a vulnerable woman into thinking her car was too dangerous to drive home and let her brother do the brakes and rotors for only less than the quarter of the price they charged! Well when little big brother "me" went to see the old rotors and brake pads he only showed me one rotor and I said "ok could I please see the other 3?" And that's when he got upset and said "I'm not doing this with you!" And I said do what sir? "I just want to see the metal to metal contact you said was wrong with the pads and rotors!?" I'm a professional fleet mechanic for a well respected carpet cleaning company here in Lubbock so I know everything all around and under the hood! So from that moment I realized Marcus the manager of ricks tire pulled a fast one on my sister and took $600 of her hard earned money! So I say to all women that are customers of ricks or future customers I urge you to please take ur husband or friend or anyone that knows mechanics with you that way this doesn't happen to y'all as well!!!!! read more

I was headed out of town for a few weeks and on my way out I got a flat tire. Somewhere I had ran over a drill bit from a construction site I had past. I called Rick's and spoke with Oscar. He did he would send his service manager Mitchell to come out to get me. Mitchell was able to get my car back to his shop and get me a new tire on in no time at all. I took my work van there to purchase and install 2 new tires. so after I spoke with Lindsey on the phone she informed me that my tires are ordered and to be there about 10:30. after waiting in line for 10 mins. they finally checked me in at 11:05 and I didn't check out till 4:15!!! while I was waiting I spoke with other customers and learned that ricks tire put his already purchased tires on another vehicle. bad part is they called him and told him his truck was ready for pick up. And another customer from Acosta plumbing had waited longer than I did. I work for a nursing home and our residents had to have their drs. appointment's rescheduled. This is not acceptable. So after this post the owner contacted me thru email and expressed his apologies for the service on that day and explained several factors that were in play that day which were not explained the day of service. also I went to ricks cause that's were all my co worker's said was the BEST to go and keep the money local " I've only been in Lubbock about 1 yr." so I changed my rating based on the locals and the owner personally contacting me on a Sunday none the less. so I do applaud ricks tire for their customer service even if it was after the fact. so let's give them another shot Lubbock!! read more
