Wow, husband and I are still trying to figure out how we missed this place when we came to the…read morebakery a couple of doors away! So I was craving a certain Filipino dish, diniguan. And most of the ones I have tried does not compare to moms cooking. Because of mom's health she no longer cooks.... Husband was so kind listening to my food cravings and doing research, he found this place. First, this place is located in strip mall mostly made of food stops. Secondly and importantly, the parking is no joke! Come early and watch where you park. The parking is not plenty and the area is narrow, making it a challenge to see when pulling in or out of a parking space. When you get out of your car your sensory will be on overload on the aromas that seem to hook you by the nostrils! You walk in the restaurant and you will see the tables most likely all taken. How it works is you walk up to food counter and select what items you want. They offer different platter options. It was a lot going on up the food menu on the wall above the staff. Behind the counter it is well staffed so even though the line may be long it moves pretty quickly. Husband and I decided to go with a two item platter. My platter I choose half and half (rice and noodles) . My two items were chicken adobo and diniguan. We got an order of lumpia too. I found the chicken adobo to be pretty good! The chicken portion was pretty good. With chicken adobo there seems never to be enough of the sauce to saturate the rice. The diniguan to my surprise passed the test! It was tasty and had the right balance of flavors! I saved half to share with mom and she liked just as well. A plus for us is they serve seltzer (soda water)! They do have a self serve water station off to the side. The lumpia was good, but I probably would try one of the skewers next time. I forgot to mention that we had to ask to share a space at a table with another couple as there were no more open tables. They gladly shared. There are not outdoor seating. I would definitely visit this spot again.

Tita's Kitchenette has always been a popular spot, and it's easy to see why. Their food is known…read morefor its generous portions, great flavor, and wide variety of Filipino dishes. Despite the restaurant not being as clean or well-maintained as one might expect, many customers, including myself, keep coming back because the food has traditionally been worth it. However, my last two visits have been disappointing. Since I now live more than an hour away, I don't get to visit often, so it's frustrating to make the drive only to find that some of the dishes I specifically came for--such as kalderetang kambing and sisig--were unavailable both times. What made the experience even more disappointing was the wait. The line was long, the weather was hot and sunny, and yet it barely seemed to move. It felt like the staff were in no hurry despite the number of customers waiting outside. I understand that food service can be busy and challenging, but the pace of service was frustratingly slow. The food is still good, and the portions remain generous, but between the limited availability of popular dishes and the lengthy wait times, my recent visits left me wondering whether the trip was worth it. I hope they can improve their inventory planning and speed of service because the restaurant definitely has the potential to provide a much better customer experience.

I eventually found it and when I got there, I met KuJo and he was SUPER nice and down to earth. That alone won me over as a future repeat customer. Ambiance: Gave me that old school feeling of nostalgia as I grew up in the area and it brought back memories even though this is a new establishment. Overall, this is a must try and if you have a chance to meet KuJo, be sure to say hello. Hes a super friendly guy!!!

Ok hear me out, BEST KARE KARE hands down! Ultimate comfort food. Beats all of the Nanay's, Tita's…read moreand Lola's recipe's. Hubby and I were literally blown away by the richness, savory, thickness and flavorful stew. Kare Kare is my all time fav Filipino dish, and THIS has been the best I've ever eaten. Guys, please order this, you will not regret it. The lechon is such a unique touch to this Filipino classic. Never had it crispy, honestly it exceded our expectation. And def will be on rotation. We also got the Tortasilog, and man...the smokiness and flavors, just delicious. Another all time fav. The flavors just hit. The sisig fries were good, a San Diego spin on one of my fav ulam's. Flavorful but a bit too vinegary for my taste. But if you're into that, you must try it. I loved how they had a menu with pictures, it really helps those who have never had the pleasure to try our food. Your eyes eat first and I think visually the pics were mouth watering. We wanted to try everything. The ambiance is really cute, I enjoyed seeing the sari sari store and all of the native goods from the motherland. I'm a filipino/american born and raised in the US, so I enjoy seeing my culture everywhere. Great service, ample seating. Highly recommended local joint. Can't wait to try more dishes. We will absolutely be coming back!

So it's casual and still comfortable. The decorations are also super cute with the "tindahan" setup at the front. It really adds to the vibe. Now the food... the food is amazing. Everything we've tried so far has been delicious. We try to get something new every visit but one thing we alwaaaysss have is pansit and either go to or mami. Honestly, this place gives the most authentic Philippines vibe here in San Diego. Eating here genuinely makes me feel like I'm back home in the Philippines. The workers are kind, welcoming, and always willing to help. They speak Filipino and don't try to overly Americanize the experience, which makes it feel even more authentic. I seriously can't stop recommending this place to people because it's just too good!

My favorite is the isaw (chicken intestines), adidas (chicken feet) and, the chicken and pork meat bbq's. They also have pork liver, kwek-kwek, pig ears, chicken heads, fish sticks, hotdogs, and plenty more. Aside of serving skewers they also offer crispy pata ($29.99), bangus ($15.99), and beef pares. They also have different kinds of refreshments. I like that brown drink with gulaman, it's sweet and refreshing. It's also nice that they gave you atsara (pickled papayas) on the side together with the other sauces to dip your food, to add more enjoyable flavors. It's a self service.... you grab your tray, pick your favorite skewers and drinks of choice, pay your order at the register, and go ahead to the grilling station at the back, where you can enjoy the fun grilling your food. Each skewer is really cheap for $2 each but be careful because it adds up quick! It can go expensive before you realized it, lol! I really liked the bangus, they fried it and it's big and so fatty which I love but the only thing was, they don't have tomatoes that should go with it. It's very homey-Filipino style and they are very nice. They also sell taho on some days.

We get a variety of their dishes--depending on what we're craving that day, but we always get their iced tea every single time--sooooo so good and refreshing! Now I doubt what temperature they cook the fish or still cook it even though it's spoiled. The service was great though. Gerry's Grill food- NO thank you after this experience. I'm so disappointed! I have a lot of Filipino friends. You kind of have to, living in San Diego County…read more Like many people, I became interested in and appreciative of their culture through the food they eat, and I'm lucky to have been introduced to that food not in restaurants, but by several of my elderly Filipino customers, for whom I do computer work. It seems that whenever I get called to Chula Vista, National City or Mira Mesa, there's always a lola waiting for me with a broken PC and a plate of pancit or a freshly-fried stack of turon. Years ago, knowing that those friendly, insistent ladies will offer to feed me, no matter the time of day, I started scheduling appointments to their houses at lunchtime, because, well, it's just bad manners to say "no, thanks, I already ate." On my own, I learned to love kare-kare and the popular Pinoy variants of pork. I still crave the Rellenong Alimango (stuffed crab) I had, years ago, at a Filipino food stall in Singapore. After the bars close, I'll often hunt down a plate of sisig. And I'll follow any such meal with something sweet, like hopia, halo-halo, or anything ube. But I'm also a big fan of Filipino breakfast, and that's where Zarlito's comes in. I've never eaten there after 10 am, and while I'm sure I'm missing a lot of good stuff, I've been happy with the breakfasts I've been served, not least because the ladies running the place are kind, always seeming tickled to see a large white man enthusiastically chomping through plates of their food. Any -silog will do the trick. Zarlito's always offers great food at a decent price. I'm glad the place is still around, and whenever I'm in the area, I try to stop in. You should, too.

I walked in and the restaurant was pretty big inside with lots of seating and it was nicelt decorated. The host sat me right away and gave me a menu. I did have to ask for water though but that's okay because there were only two people working from what I could see and there were a lot of take out orders coming in. Initially, I asked for a small bowl of sinigan and they sais they only do large orders so i decided to skip it. I ordered the beef silog with a side of spam and lumpia. The beef was well seasoned but a little tough honestly, it was still really good the eggs were cooked perfectly, sunny side up and nice and runny. The garlic rice was a nice balance to the dish as well. The spam was cut at a decent thickness and added a good depth of flavor to the meal. And the lumpia was alao pretty good. Not the best I've ever had but still very enjoyable. Overall it was good ans worth a visit if youre looking for a nice homemade meal.
