Order online and pick up at register to avoid wait. Wait helped with so much to choose from.. Cakes were moist and flavorful and had enough to enjoy the next day. Definitely worth at least one visit. After I took my wife to lunch, we wanted to get something sweet. She knew about this place because she once purchased some cupcakes for a work event and knew they are very well known in Greensboro for their sweet treats. We arrived about 1pm on a Monday and there were quite a few people entering and leaving. They are located in a strip mall with some other businesses and the parking lot was pretty full. We were able to find a spot. It appears that the business occupies at least 3 units with the bakery on the right, the sales area in the middle and a seating area on the left. We got in line and looked at all the cakes, cookies and treats in the display cases. We talked about what we were going to get and my wife mentioned they do ice cream sandwiches with their cookies. We decided to share a chocolate chip cookie sandwich with vanilla ice cream. We placed our order and asked if they could cut it in half, which they said they could. The young lady helping us then took two chocolate chip cookies from the jar and began scooping out the ice cream to create our dessert and then expertly cut it in half. Oh my goodness, if we would have had more time we would have taken a seat in their beautifully decorated sitting area but we were short on time so we sat at the counter and dug into our dessert. It was delicious, creamy vanilla ice cream between two yummy cookies. This is easily something two people can share, and based on the number of delicious looking options you might want to share so you can sample even more. The ambiance of this establishment was breathtaking! When I walked in at first you think you were lost because we walked in the other door. The setting was so warm and inviting and peaceful! They had a variety of desserts to choose from, I was able to locate a menu and it was huge which I liked and had pictures of everything they had to offer and the menu went into detail with each cake. The service could have been a little more inviting but the customers who were regulars made my experience comfortable. Let's get past the 2 elephants in the room. The first elephant is that Maxie B's is pricey. Approximately $18 for 2 slices of cake is a lot of money even for triple layers and thick slices. I blanched at hearing the tale of a visitor who took 30 slices of different cakes home because, short of a wedding cake, $210 is far above my view of a sensible cake allotment! The second elephant is the line, which was out the door in today's heavy rainstorm. If you tough it out the way we did, then you might make a friend the way we did. Our fellow cake eaters were very sociable. The staff did their best to move the line along while being polite and thorough. Do not get the appeal. Cakes are terrible and way overpriced. Twice now my family has splurged for special bday and bought two different flavor cakes from here. Truly not good at all. 6 people in the house and after first slice couldn't beg anyone to eat the rest and threw them out. Way too sweet. Just not good. I don't get it. I have enjoyed maxie b's now for over 14 years. I first tried them at a bridal shower and it was delicious so I had to try more flavors. I do have to say I'm not a fan of their pound cake but that's probably because no one compares to my granny. The atmosphere is so cute and quaint and relaxed here. I love that over the years they have expanded and added a seating area that has a fire place, kid seating and books for the Littles. I hate that they got rid of their old rewards program but they recently began a new one that involves reusing your containers that your cake comes in. The service is fast and friendly and the fresh apple cake with caramel icing is a thing of dreams. read more

I stopped by with my family over Christmas weekend for a treat. I had my puppy with me so I stayed outside by the outdoor seating area. It's always a nice set up that they have directly in front of the store with several tables and high stools . My wife went in to order for us and it was pretty busy with the line going out the door, however it only took about ten minutes to receive our items. Our coffee drinks were still being prepared but they brought them outside to us once they were done. I ordered a box of chocolate chip cookies that were really good. Don't let this picture fool you. This banana pudding cake was a 100/10! The employee that actually cut this slice said it wasn't a good cut so they cut another and we got the extra slice. That's amazing service. This slice is also on day 2 because it traveled back to NY with me and although the bananas look brown it was still so delicious! Per website, they don't have enough staff for phone orders. Pre-COVID, you could go inside, order, and eat. Now, You cannot go inside. I ordered at 7pm. I got the blueberry pound cake. I was told it would be ready in a couple of minutes. I received my cake at 7:01pm. It was was super quick. I went home and ate it later on that night after dinner. I let it sit out so that it could get room temperature as it was really cold and on the firmer side. It was good though. It didn't quite satisfy the taste I was looking for. I have always had a good experience here but went today because it had been awhile. I spent $25 for dry, tasteless desserts. The white chocolate peppermint cupcake was at least a day old-dry and stale. No peppermint taste. The traditional chocolate was white and pasty, with a very rich frosting. Since I was going to be in Greensboro, I thought I'd check it out. Walking into an establishment that smells of baking cakes is amazing! Maxie B's was cute from the outside and even cuter on the inside. It was very "Magnolia House" in its style. I was lucky enough to visit when there was not a crowd, so I got to take my time and look everything over before making my decisions. Unlike The Marketplace, the staff at Maxie B's was not welcoming or helpful. I mentioned that I was visiting and asked if there was a cake that people tended to favor. The girl behind the counter literally rolled her eyes, unfolded her crossed arms and told me, "People like all of our cakes." Gee, thanks! So, I decided to get a slice of Chocolate Sin cake to bring home to my husband, and slice of German Chocolate for me and 4 pink lemonade cupcakes to take to my daughter and her 3 dorm mates at the summer program she's attending. The girl packed up my treats and sent me on my way. I took the cupcakes to my daughter and her friends who said the cupcakes were "bussin." High praise from 17 year old kids. I actually brought my cake and my husband's cake all the way back to California with me and we ate it last night (so it was a day old when we ate it). My husband loves his chocolate cake and deemed this one "The best chocolate cake he's ever had." It was rich without being overly sweet. The icing was fudgy and had the slightest hint of raspberry in it - delicious! My German Chocolate cake was also the best I've ever had. The cake was moist and the frosting had tons of pecans and coconut in it. It was not too sweet and hit my sweet tooth just right. So...my takeaway is this. The cake is really, really good and there are so many to choose from. However, the service is lackluster and the vibe is very cold. My husband bought a 1/2 Fresh Strawberry Buttercream "Fruity" Cake for our anniversary. First, the buttercream is icky sweet and dominated the cake--as in more icing than cake. Second, the cake was dense and dry. Third, the chopped fresh strawberry layers had gaps and provided zero support for cake layers, resulting in the cake falling apart upon slicing into cake. Wow 1/14/23 packed with people a line wrapped around inside the building. Nothing but sweet goodness in sight. I guess we were all satisfying our sweet craving at the same time. I got the pink lemonade slice which was moist and creamy. I also got the hummingbird slice but I'll smash that one tomorrow lol. Ok next day 1/14/23 I ate the hummingbird slice. It was ok a little dry and there was goo gobs of icing between the layers of the cake, it was more of a icing cake than cake. Ugh I was so disappointed if your going to serve cake or cake slices chill on the gobs of icing between layers. I was going to post a picture of the gobs but that would've been embarrassing.
