6/27/21: We were visiting the area for the weekend & y'all know I search high & low for the best cupcake spots wherever I am. That's how I came across this place. The reviews made me feel pretty sure that I was going to get some DE-LI-CIOUS-LY sweet bites of Heaven, so we went to visit. We ordered online & their menu was extensive. There's sooooo much to choose from, so it was hard for us to narrow down our decision. We finally decided on cupcakes: Mocha, Pink Lemonade, and All American. We also got 3 cake slices: All American, Birthday Cake, & Chocolate with Vanilla buttercream. EVERYTHING was so yummy and moist EXCEPT the Pink Lemonade cupcake. I sooooo wanted to give this place a 5, but this cupcake was extremely dry. Even with the yummy lemonade icing, I couldn't get it down. It was too dense & I definitely needed something to drink with the few bites I took. The service was great though & the pick up procedure was very organized. I don't know how this place has so many cake, pie, and bar choices daily, but they are really good at what they do. I will definitely be back again, and next time I'm hoping to give them a 5. read more

I've been there many times- perhaps a dozen or more times. There are not enough superlatives to describe this bakery. When I go to Virginia or Georgia to visit family or friends, I'm frequently asked to deliver what they ordered. If there is no order, I'll pick some delicious morsel I've never visited a bakery that holds a candle to Maxie B's. Wow 1/14/23 packed with people a line wrapped around inside the building. Nothing but sweet goodness in sight. I guess we were all satisfying our sweet craving at the same time. I got the pink lemonade slice which was moist and creamy. I also got the hummingbird slice but I'll smash that one tomorrow lol. Ok next day 1/14/23 I ate the hummingbird slice. It was ok a little dry and there was goo gobs of icing between the layers of the cake, it was more of a icing cake than cake. Ugh I was so disappointed if your going to serve cake or cake slices chill on the gobs of icing between layers. I was going to post a picture of the gobs but that would've been embarrassing. Sooo....this place is amazing. So many great and unique options! It is a diabetic's heaven and nightmare. LOL. I have to pace myself and just treat myself once in awhile. This is, by far, the BEST bakery I have ever been to and I have been to lots. My cake faves: the all American and chocolate sin. My cookie fave: the aggression cookie - never had an oatmeal cookie as outstanding as this. My friends and I went a long hike one Sunday morning and decided we wanted to reward ourselves after. Maxie B's came to mind. We called near the end of our hike to see if we could possibly get a half Pink lemonade cake asap- they had it ready for us in less than an hour. Yum! My husband picked up the cake & he was so impressed with the pick up process & the setup! My sister, who lived in Greensboro for years, would not stop ranting about how good Maxie B's is. It was only right that we tried some of their wonderful slices on our way home. We selected a few (included the Strawberry Buttercream which she insisted on). Overall, the cakes were really good, but there are small things that "I wish". For example, I wish the Banana Pudding Cake had more banana pudding filling, and I wish the Pink Lemonade Cake was a bit more moist. Although the icing is not like the traditional overly sweet heavy buttercream that most of us are used to (Maxie B's is way better), I still wish they had whipping icing especially on certain cakes like the Pink Lemonade. The Dreamsicle cupcake was my absolute favorite, I REALLY wish I ordered more than one. The Banana Pudding cake was super good. All the cupcakes were moist, but I would have passed on the 7UP one because I have had better. The Chocolate Chip Pumpkin sounds like a weird pairing (at least to me), but they knew what they were doing with this one! 5 more please. The Key Lime pie I absolutely loved. The lime was not too strong, and the flavor was light and refreshing. I would definitely visit Maxie B's again because there is soooo much more I would love to try. Like everyone, I am sad that they don't do the orange dreamsicle cake anymore. But the lemon cake and American chocolate cake is absolutely to die for as well. And everything else looks like it would be amazing. The line is always long but it moves pretty fast, and they have cute seating both indoors and outdoors. Maxie Bs is an absolute must if you're in Greensboro! They have a great selection of cakes and desserts. I love picking up a slice when I get a chance for a "treat yourself" moment. Their cakes are always fresh, and never dry. My favorite cake is hands down the chocolate and strawberries cake. There are fresh strawberries in the layers and topped, and the chocolate balances the sweetness out well. Unfortunately, it's seasonal around Valentine's. While I wait for that cake to come back, my next go to is actually not cake but a brownie!!! I cannot recommend this enough. You HAVE to get the brownies. There is just something that hits differently. It's the perfect balance of sweet and chocolate, and chewy and fudgy, but it's also got a good density to it. You just have to try it. Stopped by to grab some slices and cupcakes, I was initially thrown off by the sign to wait outside to make indoor experience more enjoyable (mind you it was 97 degrees and I had a baby with me) !!! When entering, the line begins immediately when you walk in door, why would this be where you pay and exit, it's all ass backwards!! Then people just stood in front of the cases talking so no one can see the selectors. I have not been in town in over 10 years and was excited to come by and get some goodies but ended up walking out empty handed. It looks like there was a huge expansion of the building so I'm not sure why the order to pay line was not better thought out! One of my favorite places to get cake when I'm in Greensboro. The ambiance is great for such a small store front. It's not uncommon to see a line formed outside of the restaurant, rain or shine. Love that they sell by the slice especially when everyone in the family has a different favorite. Ok so let's talk about this chocolate cake...addictive! I've been going to Maxie B's for some years now and I have seasonal tastebuds at this bakery! Every year I get stuck on a certain vibe. For a while it was the pink lemonade cake, then I started ordering the Fresh strawberry buttercream cake with the strawberries in the middle. And don't get me started on the Lemon Buttermilk Chess Pie! Maxie B's has two different types of chocolate layered cakes: Devil's Food Cake and the All American Chocolate Cake. My favorite is the All American Chocolate Cake. It's fluffier and the icing is lighter than the devil's food cake. It reminds me of the Betty Crocker box cake except it's made from scratch! A cool idea would be to swing by the store or bring some milk (or tea) to go along with it. You can only sit on the patio right now since the bakery is closed. Right now they are only offering to-go orders. You can call ahead and have your order ready or you can place the order in person when you arrive at the bakery. I'm disappointed I ordered a cream cheese pound cake slice with strawberries. She put in cream cheese pound cake and brought it out without strawberries. When I told her, she told me that I ordered something different and then took it back in. The amount of strawberries no where near what the picture looks like. A week before my child's graduation, I called and ordered 2 kinds of cupcakes from this bakery -- red velvet and vanilla. The ordering process was easy, but I never did receive a confirmation via email or text, so I was a little nervous. Fast forward to pick up and my husband said the process was smooth and the other items in the bakery looked amazing. They were in a nice, sturdy box that held them safely until they were served at our small party. Our family and guests thoroughly enjoyed the cupcakes. The cake part was great but the icing was outstanding. I might have to take another trip out to Greensboro just to try more items. read more

Service was pleasant & prompt. However I guess I was there on an off day, because of the 4 desserts I chose, only one was really a standout - the cream filled oatmeal cookie. Also tried the Boston cream pie (a bit dry and tasted a little old), bananas foster (more on this later) and carrot cake (delicious and moist).. The bananas foster was displayed in litttle tubs alongside similar tubs, containing banana pudding, with a sign indicating that the bananas foster contained rum. I took one bite and immediately knew that there was no rum and nothing "foster" about it; it was plain banana pudding. I asked the woman at the counter who seemed unaware that they had bananas foster - who then asked another woman - which ones were "bananas foster?" to which the other replied, "ALL OF THEM" sigh. I'm sure it's just a fluke. Recently I was there to pick up a slice of pecan pie, a slice of pumpkin pie, and a slice of some kind of cake. The cake was delicious despite the fact that I can't remember what kind it was. The pumpkin pie was passable, but not something I'm gonna run back to the bakery for. The pecan pie, the real reason I was there, was very disappointing. It was super dry. so dry that the pie was caved in on top. I should've known not to get any that day. They must've overcooked it. I ordered a birthday cake for my boyfriend last year, and the entire process was so well-personalized and seamless.
