One of the best happy hour deals in town! Tuesday through Friday from 4-6pm, they offer $6 bites and $9 drinks. If it's still available, the Burger Au Poivre is a must-try. For only $6, they serve a full sized portion which is one of the best values on the menu and an absolute steal for the quality you receive. The burger comes with caramelized onions, American cheese, crispy onions, au poivre sauce, garlic-herb aioli on a sesame milk bun (Note: one order per guest). From the happy hour menu, I also ordered the Halibut Fish Fry and the Shrimp Cocktail. The Shrimp Cocktail had a sweet and chili cocktail vinaigrette, which I really enjoyed. From the dinner menu, I had the Kale Cashew Caesar, Lobster Pot Pie, and the Ora King Salmon. To my surprise, the star of the show was the Kale Cashew Caesar, which staff recommended. What made this dish so special was the generous mound of shaved Gran Moravia piled on top, complemented by lemon breadcrumbs. The combination and texture was so fun to eat. The Lobster Pot Pie is offered at market price ($55 when I went). They give you generous chunks of butter-poached lobster tails, seasonal vegetables, lobster cream in their truffle puff pastry. The Ora King Salmon was also delicious. Salmon was cooked perfectly--light and moist. I enjoyed the black garlic gnocchi and the apple gastrique that came with this dish. This is a girl's dinner DREAM! On Mondays, they have a special for a Caesar salad, fries, and a martini for $25. Even though we had a reservation, it was busy and they served us at the bar. I had been wanting to try the happy hour burger for a long time. I arrived around 5:10 and they had 2 burgers left, so we ordered both of them! Stopped in here for happy hour this week, and they crushed it. A few of us split one of everything, and each dish was better than the last. They do a fantastic job of adding some variety into staples, like tomato jam to shrimp cocktail, that provides a new take on the classics, without getting so wild you don't enjoy it. The oysters are always fresh and delighful here. Some of the best in the city! While they currently offer their own dressing for the oysters, I truly prefer the classic mignonette, which wasn't on the menu this particular day. I asked if if was an option, and the chef was outstanding and whipped some up quickly for us, which really made the oysters shine in my opinion. This was our first time visiting Third Coast Provisions; overall, we had a positive experience. Parking is tough in that area, we ended up doing valet as we couldn't find a spot after circling a few times. The aesthetics are cozy industrial loft vibes; high ceilings that remind you of Third Ward buildings. The coastal decor was inviting and we enjoyed the ambience. We both ordered the Old Instanbul which is their spin on an old fashioned made with bourbon, cardamom-date molasses, walnut & blackstrap bitters and a phyllo rim. Honestly, this is probably one of the best spins on an old fashioned I've ever tasted!!! Highly recommend. Our waiter was very friendly and offered up several personal and popular suggestions. We went with a mix of his recommendations and enjoyed everything. We ordered the grilled oysters which were delicious, pretty pricey at $11/pair but nicely done. Next up we tried the King Salmon Crudo which was an unexpected combo of ingredients that were great on the palette. I don't generally go for raw salmon, but it was extremely high quality and not the least bit fishy. We split 2 entrees, the great lakes walleye and the roasted sea scallops. The pumpkin spaetzle was so good with the walleye, and the dish overall had a nice spice to it - we preferred this one over the scallop dish. Went for Happy Hour and it was great. The atmosphere was cozy. The staff was friendly and attentive. We tried every happy hour bite on the menu, each for $6. That included a burger au poivre, fish fry bites, salmon croquettes, and garlic parm fries. We also got one of each of the selected oysters (all east coast and great). Honestly we were able to eat all of the food and it was a perfect amount. We got 2 glasses of the $9 drink selections and tried 2 beers on their beer menu. Third Coast is a gem, literally everything about it. My husband and I have been here before, but this time we really got to see the amazing service the bartenders give while sitting at the bar. Our bartenders were so personable, knew when to leave us alone or chime in for help with suggestions, and even made us shots that they were testing out for fun. The grilled oysters were delicious, I could've eaten 20 more. The scallop crudo was delicious, this dish took your mouth through an experience of the most unique flavors (chile, coconut, avocado, cashew, citrus). The scallops were like literal butter. The pot hole small place was phenomenal, apparently this is a staple at this establishment. The first bite I took, I looked at my husband and told him "I feel like I've died and gone to heaven". There was so much lobster and crab lumps hidden in the holes of this creamy, buttery dish. A plus... the bread was crunchy on the outside and super soft on the inside. The cocktails were unique, yet delicious! I got The Salzbrun Shake, which has notes of pineapple, cold brew, and chai. I also tried Money In The Banana Stand, since I was so intrigued by the bruleed banana! When I tell you my mind was blown away at the taste of this cocktail... yall!! The bartender who was serving us told me she came up with this drink on accident when she was working a private party and no one wanted to drink the banana daiquiri drinks, so she was left with pitchers of this cocktail and had no idea what to do with it. She decided to concoct a new drink utilizing coconut milk or whole milk with alcohol and an acid (in this case lime, pineapple, banana liquor, and rum). This process is called clarification, which makes the cocktail look clear. My mind was blown when I got my drink and it didn't appear creamy. My husband got a dirty martini with blue cheese olives, a classic! He also got the Pollination Station cocktail, which came with the cutest florals! The vibes were chic, modern. The service was friendly, the dry Riesling from Prűm amazing, and my vodka martini good enough. Our downhill run began when the rest of our party arrived. Led upstairs to a table for five in an empty room at the back, I immediately voiced my displeasure. Told they were unable to seat us downstairs, I compromised and accepted a table over-looking the main dining room. Service was well-meaning but inexperienced. Our server's contrived perkiness was a turn-off, and her descriptions of the menu were rehearsed and uninformative. However, she tried. I can't say that about the kitchen. The food they produced was less than mediocre. Everything tasted like mush. Seafood preparation requires a deft touch, and these chefs were butchers. The food was over-cooked, over-sauced, over-fried, and over-priced. My wife didn't touch a thing after one bite. However, I was missing the point. Milwaukee Street is not about food preparation. The restaurants are all about the scene, as I noticed groups of young people enjoying their night out drinking their dinner. You get my point. Foodies stay away, but the young and attractive will enjoy Third Coast Provisions. Milwaukee is not a great seafood town. High end restaurants such as Sanfords and Lake Park Bistro will do fish justice. Yet, that's not the crowd Third Coast Provisions is catering to. This review is specifically about The Loon Room in the downstairs speakeasy style bar in Third Coast. I would give it a 3.5 honestly. The vibe was cool. It had red lights, hightop seating, and a cozy space. We were there around 8:30ish on a Friday night and quickly found an open table. A waitress quickly came to take care of us. We're doing dry January, and they had 2 options. The Bees Have No Knees was ok, but the N/A Bird Shirt was very good. I would go back for drinks again. I wouldn't recommend this place if you have allergies. Asking the kitchen came across as a hassle. I tried the fishsticks, and I was disappointed. The remoulade was very good, but the actual fish stick was super dry and had no flavor at all. Our friends had the shrimp and said it was really good. They said the fondue with pretzel bites was okay. Overall, it's a pretty cool place, and I'd use it as a jumping off point and perhaps just do dinner upstairs. read more

Third Coast Provisions serves up midwest inspired cuisine in an elegant environment. Reservations are easily made in advance online. We made our reservations a few days in advance and were able to pick a time that worked best for us. We began our experience with cocktails. I got their mod-negroni, which takes a slight spin on a traditional negroni with the addition of olive brine and an olive garnish. If this sounds odd to you--dispel the thought. A traditional negroni is delicious and the olive addition took the beverage beyond. It was stunning. For our starters we got the whipped goat cheese app from their breads menu. The whipped goat cheese was combined with heirloom tomato and served with a naan style bread. The bread was wonderful and the flavor of the whipped goat cheese was fine. It was odd as it was supposed to be a baked dish. The server even warned us from touching the dish it's served in. But, the spread wasn't even luke warm. The dish itself was slightly warmer than room temperature. We also got the mushroom appetizer which was glorious. It was ample, herbaceous, and delicious. Both my dining companion and I adored this dish and would absolutely order again. For my main, I got the pumpkin ricotta ravioli. The savory sage-y butter combined with the sweeter notes was lovely. Again, the temperature of this dish was off. A table near us actually sent theirs back. We both ordered it and didn't have the time for a remake but it was barely luke warm. Again, the server warned us of the hot dish and again the dish was only slightly warmer than warm temperature. Not sure if there was an issue with the oven or what and unfortunately we just didn't have the time or inclination to dig too deeply. The service was attentive and kind. A friend and I shared Deviled Eggs with caviar, housemade naan with "extra dirty" olive oil topped with pecorino cheese, Raw "butter and brine" east coast oysters, Grilled Oysters with pretzel-nduja butter, Roasted Scallops with sweet pea pancakes, Charred asparagus with poached egg and Jamon Iberico, Potholes with lobster and crab, and Carrot Cake. Every dish was perfectly prepared and so delicious. My friend and I were sufficiently stuffed and happy. We also shared a bottle of wine, as wine bottles are half off on Thursdays. We made reservations at Third Coast for a birthday dinner this summer. I did mark on the form that this was a birthday occasion. When we arrived we were seated immediately right in front of the open window to the sidewalk. It was a nice location for a first visit and novel. The hostess immediately confirmed the birthday in the party. We had potholes, a couple grilled oysters and another appetizer. They were all good, but the potholes were universally liked. We all had pre-dinner cocktails and the restaurant brought us a sparkling birthday toast that was a lovely touch. Our entrees included an amazing halibut dish that tasted heavenly, although it was a messy kind of presentation with weird color combinations. The walleye was also greatly enjoyed. Carrot cake that people ordered was declared to be awesome. They also brought a birthday dessert to the table, gratis. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was special. The only major downside is the pricing. This is an expensive restaurant by any standard at $45 each for fish; I've had less expensive meals at high end Parisian places. Perhaps they might be a little sensitive to the city's pricing conventions and the people who'd love to try it, but can't afford it. read more

The atmosphere right when you walk in the door to this restaurant was pretty awesome. The host was so attentive and we were greeted three times as we were waiting for our table. Always with a smile and a friendly face. That is rare to find in a restaurant like this sometimes. Our waitress Kaitlyn was so attentive, friendly, and more than willing to make suggestions on food choices and really tell you what you're getting. Unfortunately, outside of the potholes, the food did not really measure up in our opinions. The filet mignon was really good, but the black cod and the scallops were just OK. Drinks were phenomenal! Was disappointed by my visit. While the waitstaff were attentive and provided quick service, my meal left a decent amount to be desired. The inside was cute, trendy and a little cozy. I went on a Friday early evening and it was pretty empty (I was the only one there when I walked in at 5pm). No happy hour deals which is always a bummer but not a deal breaker. I didn't order a drink but the cocktails looked pretty small. They have one that comes with a "dinner cigarette" which seems like a fun/cute idea until the smoke drifts around the restaurant. The lobster Mac and Cheese was highly recommended- the dish looked amazing and had some large lobster chunks. Unfortunately the lobster had a strong "fishy" taste (I love seafood and this was not a good fish taste) and permeated the dish. It's also gone up in price from what's reported on Yelp ($35 not $23). Such a great restaurant! My friends and I stopped over for happy hour, but didn't realize that the happy hour only applies if you sit at the bar. Our mistake! That being said, we were pleasantly surprised by how much we liked the food. We tried the extra dirty olive oil (which came with naan bread), and the calamari. Both dishes were absolutely delicious! This restaurant was really trying to be the third coast by dumping the entire ocean's worth of salt into their dishes. I have never been so thirsty in my life the day after I ate here. With the number of great reviews on top of the beautiful interiors, I had such high expectations for this restaurant that I happily brought my partner and his father (who traveled from out of the country to visit) to the restaurant. Imagine my disappointment and embarrassment for bringing them here, only to be given overpriced and oversalted food. The only redeeming factors of the restaurant were the interior design (absolutely gorgeous), the potholes (delicious but still salty), and our waitress who served us in the mezzanine on 10/8 (I forgot her name, sorry!). When we first got our appetizer--the mushrooms, we were literally eating a spoonful of salt at a time. I RARELY send back food, but I had to send the mushrooms back before the dish induces any hypertensive emergency among us. After we got the new mushrooms dish after telling our waitress we wanted just 1/4-1/3 of the salt, the dish still came back extremely salty and the waitress said the cook apologized for "ACCIDENTALLY DOUBLE-SALTING THE DISH." I'm sorry, but WHAT. All of our subsequent dishes then tasted all just like salt without a hint of other seasoning. I wasn't sure if it's because our tastebuds were so skewed after eating so much salt that our remaining dishes just didn't taste that great. It was just salty. Anyways we walked out with a $260 bill for three people which was outrageous for this quality of food in Milwaukee of all places. I'm not sure how people are raging about this restaurant. I have sworn to never return and have told others to avoid going to this restaurant altogether. Opt for somewhere else for better quality food that's actually worth the cost. read more
