Our whole family has been going there since 2007 when they opened in Waterford. They have done several different services on our family and have always been caring professional, and thoughtful with their treatment plans. I've never felt upsold to services that were unnecessary or felt pressured to do something. We've had several dental implants, extractions, and other procedures. Even some emergency procedures (on Christmas Eve) where they have gone out of their way to make sure I was getting the best care regardless of insurance coverage. PATIENT BEWARE.... As a first-time patient, I genuinely felt that they attempted to upsell dental services to both me and my insurance company. They recommended an extensive list of procedures, despite the fact that I've maintained regular dental visits and cleanings. Unfortunately, my longtime dentist of many years had just retired, so I was seeking a new provider at the time. Now... this happened: On the morning of Friday, 10/10, around 10 AM, I received a text and voicemail reminding me of an appointment scheduled for Monday, 10/13 at 8 AM. Apparently, this appointment was set six months ago during my initial visit. I had no recollection of it, and there had been no prior reminders until just then. Unfortunately, due to the extremely short notice, I was unable to attend. I called and left a voicemail to explain. Then, at 6:29 AM on Monday morning, I received a text stating that a $50 fee applies to missed, rescheduled, or canceled appointments with less than 48 business hours' notice. Here's the problem: Their reminder was sent less than 24 business hours before the appointment--and to make matters worse, the office is closed on Fridays, giving me even less of an opportunity to respond during business hours. How is it fair to penalize patients for late cancellations when the reminder system is so flawed? I find it unacceptable to be charged for a missed appointment under these circumstances. I've been debating writing this review as this is a small business. Although, I feel taken advantage of and mis-treated. I recently switched over to this dentist as mine was making me bill my insurance myself. The first appointment, I waited for one hour before being seen, I than sat for about an hour and had to leave as I was going to be late for work, I was told "make sure you reserve at least an hour for your appointment". I was there for two hours and late to work, I was then given a paper for my next appointment for a TEETH CLEANING. They tried to upcharge me with things that are un-needed, and my insurance does not cover. I asked for them to remove it, they crossed it off, I left. I came back last week to do my teeth cleaning, they tried to up charge me about the same products, they told me zocdoc is only for first time appointment and didn't have me on the schedule. (they blamed me for their mistake). They had me pay for someone else's appointment by mistake due to their incompetence. They then refused to take the things off my bill I didn't need, talked to the hygienist, she took it off the bill finally. After all of this.... at the end of the TEETH CLEANING..... the hygienist states, "this was not a teeth cleaning, this was to de-sensitize your gums, just so you know" 1. I was never told that 2. I booked this appt for a teeth cleaning 3. You performed work on me that you were NOT supposed to. stray away from this dentist, if you want to save your time and money and dignity. never again. read more

I recently visited Maxine Momcrieffe for a routine checkup, had some procedures that took over two months and numerous office visits. I received two crowns, two fillings, and a deep cleaning. While I initially trusted the dentist's recommendations, I am deeply disappointed with the outcome because they did not give me antibiotics. Ultimately this led to a very concerning and life-threatening experience. Following these treatments, I was weak, sick and visited several doctors as well as weekly labs and procedures to find out the reason for my illness and weigh loss. In the emergency room they found a severe bacterial infection that required hospitalization for 23 days and resulted in open heart surgery to replace a damaged valve. It is alarming to note that no antibiotics were prescribed before, during, or after the procedures, which according to my new dentist, is a standard practice for such extensive work. I never had any heart issues or suffered from diabetes. This experience not only caused significant physical and emotional distress, but also resulted in a substantial financial burden. I went to Dr. Moncrieffe after randomly picking her out of my dental plans provider booklet. My bad experience started out when I went into her office and was confronted by a pretty unfriendly office staff. They were snotty and did not want to be bothered by me. Things just went downhill from there... I went in for a routine cleaning and examination. First off, they tried to "up sell" me to a more advanced and "deeper" cleaning. I was irritated, because ever since I've had teeth I've gone to the dentist every 6 months. I knew that I was not a good candidate for a deep cleaning... my teeth are in pretty good shape. I declined the extra cleaning... and then they proceeded to make me feel disgusting and irresponsible for not accepting it. I broke down and ended up just agreeing - at an extra cost of over $100 (I wish I could take that back now). My second problem came with the X-rays. I usually get your traditional X-rays each time I go to the dentist. Most insurance companies will cover that once a year. They also have a lot of restrictions when you can get "Panoramic X-rays" - ones that take a full view of your whole mouth and jaw. These are more expensive, so my insurance was extremely restrictive of this. I was pretty sure I just had a set of panoramics done in the last year, so I told the billing lady to make sure to check with my insurance before she took them. I went over this with her VERY CLEARLY. She came back a few minutes later and told me that she'd checked with my insurance and that everything was A-OK! So they took the dang X-rays. (Which were completely unnecessary as it is...) More to come on this... I honestly can't remember too much about Dr. Moncrieffe. The only thing I do remember is that she scared the bejeezus out of me by telling me that my two front teeth have "short roots" (I already knew this from previous dental issues I've had). That's not the worst part - she then told me that I would probably lose them within 5 years and sent me home with a packet of delightful literature about dental implants. I was literally crying on the car ride home as I told my boyfriend. The icing on the cake is that about 6 months later I get a bill in the mail from Dr. Montcrieffe for over $150 bucks for the price of the Panoramic X-rays along with a letter that said that my insurance denied payment on them and I would have to pay for them in full. I nearly popped a vein in my head because I was so pissed. I called and spoke to Little Miss Billing and after a few phone calls and finally some yelling - they managed to cover the price and stop harassing me. read more

I didn't think this doctor was in business anymore, but I Googled her after I found an old bill that I found from 2002. I saw the review by Dana H. and laughed my a$$ off! So I, also, found this dentist through my insurance network. My experience started in a similar way with the unfriendly staff member. The guy who worked there was nicer, but, ultimately, he still didn't resolve my issue(s). The first time I went in, I went for a cleaning. Everything was find and dandy. The x-rays and cleaning went fine. I had a cavity on one of my molars, so I set up an appointment to come back for the filling. They asked if I wanted amalgam (silver) or the composite (tooth-colored) filling. I said I wanted amalgam since it was covered under my insurance. They gave me literature on AMALGAM fillings and I was on my merry way home. The second, and final, visit, I went in for my amalgam filling and the doctor and her assistant worked on my molar. When they were done, the assistant mentioned what happens with composite fillings. I was wondering why she was telling me this information. I asked for a mirror and saw that they gave me a composite filling! I had never gotten one before, so I didn't know the procedure. I figured she was a young dentist at the time, so she had new technology on how to do amalgam fillings. I was so upset! I said I didn't ask for that. She said it was written on the chart. I pulled out the literature about amalgam fillings that they had given me on my first visit. They were completely shocked at their mistake. After months of phone calls, they eventually fixed it and there was a credit of maybe $20 on my account. Months went by and I kept waiting and waiting for them to send me my refund, but I never received it. Finally, one day I called and they said they "fixed my account". I asked when I could expect my check and they said there was actually a balance of $5.00 and as a courtesy, they just wiped off. They said there WAS a credit of $20.00, but then there was a charge of $25.00 from an appointment for which I never showed up! At that point, I was so furious, but I held in my rage. I made sure that there was no balance and asked them to send me something saying that there was nothing due. I received it in the mail and have kept it ever since, just in case they tried to come back and say that I had a balance. I told all of my family never to go there. To be fair, the doctor was actually nice and she did a pretty good job so I gave two stars instead of one, but the administration messed up my whole experience. In addition, in 2004, I found my old dentist that I LOVE!!! They are brothers: Drs. David and Kelly Harden. I went to them when I was still in high school. They are awesome. Recently, I changed insurance and had to find another in-network dentist. Dr. Arias' office on Colonial (A Family Dental) sucks, too. They told me that my daughter didn't have any cavities, but she actually had TWO of them. They said for new patients, they do not promise a cleaning. My husband and I were outraged. The lady asked if we wanted to schedule a cleaning which meant that we had to pay for a separate appointment. My husband declined and we left. I am never leaving Dr. Harden again! Try them out. They are PPO only, though, but their customer service is excellent and their dental work is superb! read more

She does not care for patients well being. She has seen myself, my husband and my 3 children, one with anxiety issues. My daughter complained of pain and she ignored it. She used Vaseline on her lips even though she was allergic. Her success was measured by completing her treatment plan not the wellbeing of experience if the patient. read more

They have sets of fancy equipment and friendly staff, but they will try to extract any $$$ possible by finding so many problems you didn't know you had and keep adding unnecessary procedures. I can't even give one star as far as my experience. I had to get my filling adjusted 3 times! They didn't fit each time, yet they didn't really seem embarrassed or apologetic about it. This office is TERRIBLE. The woman at the front desk is a nightmare to deal with and has not problem letting you leave the office unsatisfied. The dentist and her assistants will try to upsell you on everything and anything and the office manager takes forever to return phone calls. After the rude front office coordinator incorrectly charged me over $600 the office manager still hasn't reversed the charges and it's been over 30 days. I'm just waiting for the payment to go through so I never have to deal with them again. Dr. Moncrieffe needs to spend a little more time evaluating her staff. She is a very caring dentist and while there are things they do offer that are "upsell" services I've never felt that anything was frivolously recommended or guided by a profit motive. I get my teeth cleaned every 6 months religiously. After moving to the Orlando area, I found this dentist on the website of my insurance provider. Now I wish I had yelped first. Upon my arrival I was told I had 12 cavities! 12!!!! I was a little baffled at the idea of having accumulated that many cavities over 6 months, but I figured just trust the doctor. It took me a month and a half of weekly visits to get them all filled, and now I think that most of them weren't cavities. Today, I had the most painful cleaning I've ever had. The lady told me to floss more because I was bleeding. While I agree that I need to floss more, the way she poked and scratched at my gums is probably the main reason I was bleeding. Even as I flinched and indicated with my tongue I was hurt, she continued right onto making a different section of my mouth bleed. After she (finally) finished cleaning my teeth, she said that she was putting fluoride on teeth. I thought this was strange since no one had applied fluoride to my teeth in a long time, but again I trust the doctor. When I get to the counter to get my insurance bill, I'm informed that fluoride isn't covered and I needed to pay out of pocket. This was annoying because I never said I wanted fluoride, nor was I informed that I would be charged for it. After my visit today, I will be finding a new dentist with the assistance of my yelp app so that I may not have a similar experience again. read more

The dental hygentist was great. Theresa who manages the front desk was not kind at all. I had to cancel an appointment because I am in horrific pain and after a 15 minute hold she picks up the phone and hangs up. I then have to call back for her to say. It will be 50 dollars for the cancellation. I mean I had read the reviews but figured I never had a too terrible experience. But the lack of empathy and apology for keeping someone on hold for 15 minutes is not okay. I cancelled all my future appointments. I should be able to see a dentist that is considerate from start to finish. read more

(Part 2 of 2) She said if you agree to the deep cleaning she needs we will do that but she would not do the basic cleaning for her. So we said, fine..I guess we're done here. And we left....but there was more to come. 3 months later we received a bill from their office for over $600. We immediately called and were told the insurance company denied the claim and that we would have to contact them to find out why, but ultimately insurance or not, we are responsible for the debt. So I called the insurance company. They said the claim was denied because they were not an authorized provider...I told them I asked them and they said they were, that while we were there they verified our insurance coverage with them and that they had even produced a list of codes that the insurance company provided pertaining to our specific insurance plan and what was covered. They said that they do not specifically provide to health care providers a formatted list of codes, that there was no such procedure. I was pretty upset and asked the insurance representative to speak to a supervisor. I was forwarded to the supervisor and we had the exact same discussion. I asked him for his direct extension and asked if I could call him from the dentist office to hash this out. He said sure and took down my name so he would remember the conversation. I went back to Dr. Moncrieffe's office with the bill and explained to the office manager what the insurance company told me. He simply said, he doesn't know what they are talking about and ultimately I was responsible for the bill and showed me the document we had filled out at enrollment that stated 'the patient is ultimately responsible for the bill.' I was pissed and told him we would have never come here if we would have known that they didn't accept our insurance. I told him, you specifically told us you did, you even 'verified' with our insurance that we were covered, and that you had even produced a paper that they faxed you with the exact 'codes' that were covered. That essentially he had falsely verifed to us 3 times that they were in my insurance's network of providers. I gave him the paper that had the insurance company's number on it with the supervisor's direct extension and asked him to call so we could figure this out. He told me that it was not his responsibility to ensure my insurance company paid them and that ultimately if they didn't I was responsible, and he handed me back the paper. 1 weeks later I received a billed in the mailthat said I was overdue and charged interest on the balance. And that if not fully paid by xx date that it would be turned over to collection and reported to the credit agencies. I was so upset. I didn't know what to do. I wrote the Better Business Bureau and they sent me a response saying they would contact the business on my behalf. About 2 months later they returned their findings. They stated, Dr. Moncrieffe was not a member of the BBB and that the business failed to make any amends on my behalf. They included my letter to them to Dr. Moncrieffe's Office, and the business simply responded by saying the insurance company denied my claim and photocopied that paper with the statement,' the patient is ultimately responsible for payment' and my signature circled. After recieving confirmation from the BBB that I had a legitamite case, I wrote the Professional Business Regulatory Board, the County Health Board, and the State Regulatory Commision on the issue. The PBRB all confirmed that I had a case but none of those agencies had anything to file against her because she did not actually break the law by saying they were an insurance provider for my insurance plan. I was advised by the county and the PBRB to attain a lawyer to resolve the matter. I contacted a few offices and told them my case and I found out that it would cost me more to fight this in court than the actual bill was. Even if I did win...I would be out more than $600 fighting this. Unfortunately, we just had to let this one go. So now we have a collection on our credit history. We sent in all the letters from the BBB, the county, and the PBRB to all 3 credit agencies. They all said that unfortunately they could not remove the collection from record unless we beat it in court....This could happen to you too. read more

I would absolutely recommend Dr. Maxine Moncrieffe to any person looking for a friendly dentist who is thorough in her evaluations and strives to educate the client. Dr. Moncrieffe is honest and informative about even the slightest of dental concerns. I am thankful for her expertise, as well as the expertise of the staff. In my experience, Dr. Moncrieffe helped to educate me and allowed me to prioritize the work I needed. At no point did I feel as though I was being 'up-sold' any services. The facilities are spotless. The staff is friendly and the dental services are relatively quick. Plus, they work to accommodate your needs by having flexible scheduling. Overall A+ for this office. read more

For nine years, I have been Dr. Moncrieffe's patient and I am very pleased with her care. She is very knowledgeable and professional, and her office staff are helpful and capable. She uses technology well and is aggressive and attentive in pursuing a patient's dental health. Her explanations are clear and have helped me make wise decisions about my dental issues. Being in my 50's, I have had a variety of dental "situations" in 9 years, and she has advised and acted to resolve each issue. A few teeth have given her opportunity to show her persistence and patience. She may not be the cheapest option at times, but high quality is worth a few more dollars in most cases. Mauricio, the dental hygienist, is gentle and thorough in his work; and I recommend him highly also. The office team has expanded and changed some in the last few years, and each time it has been for the better. I was sorry that Dana (another reviewer) had the experience she wrote about. I found this dentist through my healthcare provider network. Being military I am required to go for a yearly check up and being new to the area I figured something close to home would be good. I made an appointment for a cleaning and the first thing I noticed was the receptionist wasn't very attentive. She seemed more interested in talking on the phone than helping clients. The hygienist was pretty friendly but she was a bit too rough with one of my teeth which had a filling on it, it got to the point where it became painful and I asked her to stop. Other than that the cleaning went smoothly. After the cleaning was done I found it odd that they would give me a prescription for toothpaste, I take very good care of my teeth so I felt that prescription toothpaste was a bit ridiculous. I have this habit of biting my nails, so on my way home i start to bite my nails and the first thing I noticed was a big chunk of a filling on one of my bottom teeth fall off, I imminently cal the dentist to let them know what had occurred and they try to schedule me for a an appointment to take a look at it, she also assures me over the phone that I would not be charged for the bonding. Once I make it to my appointment this Maxine dentist takes a look at my mouth and proceeds to tell me It just looks like I chipped a tooth and I never had any fillings done on it. I proceed to tell her I did have a filling the year prior while I was in the military. She proceeds to tell me it doesnt look like there was any bonding and its just a chipped tooth. At this point Im beginning to get upset at the fact shes calling me a liar but I just want to get it over with so I stay quiet. A couple of minutes later she comes out with a $100 bill for me to sign at which point I became very upset, I told her I was assured I would not be charged to which she continued to insist that there was never a filling and it was just a chipped tooth and they couldnt guarantee other dentist work anyway. I refused to sign anything, got up and left. It wasnt so much the fact that they wanted me to pay (since my insurance would cover 80% of the procedure) it was the fact that their cleaning was the cause of my need for a new filling, I was lied to over the phone, called a liar by this dentist and then asked to sign a bill. From now on I will be going to the VA hospital for all my treatments, unfortunately $100 is not something to take to court or else I would. For this "doctor" to call me a liar over a $100 procedure was completely out of line. Extremely unprofessional in my opinion. I Don't recommend this doctor to anyone. read more

Everyone in the office has always been really friendly and I had no pain when getting a cleaning- I usually have at least some. Also, they took me without insurance and I bought a plan for I think $200 that covered cleanings and xrays for a year. I have insurance now, but I want to stay with this dentist because they have been so great to me. read more

Even after your insurance tells them what you're supposed to pay they'll still over charge you with no reason why. When you ask to speak to their office manager they will not contact you. The BEST dentist I have ever had! Dr. Moncrieffe and her staff are extremely friendly, gentle and thorough, which is what you would want from a dentist. However, touches like a personal phone call from Dr Moncrieffe prior to my first visit, as well as the genuine feeling that she and she staff truely care about you are what makes her top notch. I switched employers and admitedly waited too long to go back to the dentist - upon inspection I needed several crowns etc. Her staff was extremely thorough in their explantation, showed me pictures and talked options. I never felt pressured or that they were trying to sell me something I didnt need. They use state of the art equipment, and are very gentle, so much so that I actually didnt mind going to the dentist! They have convenient early morning appts as well. I have no hesitation in recommending her to my friends and others. I wish she was also my personal Dr! read more

Came in for a cleaning. Said I needed 2 root canals. It took 2 days for EACH root canal. The first one, I was there 4 hours and had to come back, their water went out. Not their fault. So I figure I'll be in and out in an hour to finish it. Not a chance, another 5 hours. Then the second one, I was there about 2 hours, then had to come back because it didn't fit. And when i returned, it took another 5 hours. They doped me up and then shoved paperwork in my face wanting me to commit to a dental plan. I didn't even have my glasses and couldn't read it, but they tried to force me to sign any way. I had to get mad before the tech backed off. She put in the most expensive crowns for teeth that cannot even be seen when I smile. Seriously. It cost me 2 1/2 days vacation and $1900 for 2 root canals. And I still didn't get my teeth cleaned. And can't afford to now..... read more

My complaint is more with the nature of how the billing is handled than with the Doctor herself. We were quoted an amount upon first visit and when we returned to have the work completed the amount changed. Any other dentist I have visited has worked with our insurance company for a "pre-determination". This way there are no surprises. I do understand that I shouldn't have assumed they did their job on the first visit when I received their quote, but when I returned over a week later to have the work preformed I should have been given a new amount prior to having it completed. Upon checking out my new amount I was caught by surprised. The clerk then stated that my first visit was only an estimate and that a true amount usually takes 6-8 weeks to receive. I contacted my insurance company and confirmed that an accurate amount would have taken less than 6-8 days which was more than enough time prior to having the actual work done. It is truly a sad day when you have to anticipate a Dentist office doing the ole' "bait and switch". After several calls and visits trying to get the situation rectified, we are no further along. Should you visit this dentist I strongly suggest you get the most accurate quote in writing prior to having any work done. As for my friends and family, I will assure they don't fall victim to these very poor business practices! read more

Dr. Moncrieffe and her professional staff are, in one word, OUTSTANDING!!! If you are new to the area and need a dentist or if you're not satisfied with your current dentist I highly recommend you give her office a call. She has a smaller practice that enables them to provide personal (and friendly) attention and excellent dental care. The office uses current dental techniques and Dr. Moncrieffe and her staff attend professional conferences to keep them up to date on emerging trends in dental care. Make sure you keep all bills and check them against your insurance explanation of benefits. I was charged for things such as novacaine out of pocket when doing a procedure. They told me my insurance didnt cover Novocaine. Come to find out they never submitted those claims. The insurance company would have denied that as it is part of the procedure and already paid for. What insurance company denies Novocaine!! I wish I had read the reviews prior to visiting this office. My experience was identical to Dana's. After 7 months I have won my fraud case against this office. I was told not to expect my refund anytime soon because thier office refuses to cooperate. Went there 1st time with my son he need some fillings. He is 5 year old. They gave me a print out how much it will be to fix everything. It was too much. I did not have a dental insurance for my son. I went to a different doctor and they had to pull my sons tooth. He did not want to go back there due to the bad experience he had. Doctors were great, just memories were there. A few days after I received a phone call from Dr Moncrieffes office. They offered 30 % discount do the estimate they gave me before. They gave me a discount the 1st time and that was it. I paid them over 1000 $ to fix my sons 6 teeth. Last time I went, they told me it was 420 $ 135 of that was for Behavior Management. My son was crying a bit because of the shots they done to numb his gum. We had to stop twice and that was it, I was the one who was talking to him and made him stop. They did not tell me what was 420 $ for. I though it was for 2 teeth and future space maintainer they had to put. Lady asked me to pay more when I was leaving. Then that I realized that I paid for Behavior Management. Not they job they were suppose to do. They stuff were rude. I asked to speak to the doctor. She did not even bother to come and speak to me. She told the stuff that she could not take it out and wont. I asked woman how did they come up with 135? Why not 500? She was very rude and said that it is the fee .I could have gone to any other doctor. I pay cash. I paid them more then a person with insurance would. Insurance put a limitation on how much they can charge. What a rip off! read more
