So I ran...ok, I finished (because after about the first 5 miles there wasn't much running. Those hills are steep, y'all!) a 25k trail race and was freaking hungry for some protein. We tried another burger place but they were jam packed busy and none of the waitresses seemed interested in helping us, so after checking out Yelp, we decided on this place as I wanted a big ol' burger. And a beer. Or 8. So we got there, and they weren't too busy, but man our waitress was so slow. Bless her heart, she didn't seem busy, and she was so super sweet, and maybe because I was starving but it felt like it took forever to get anything. Finally got my beer, and we ordered the fried pickle spears appetizer (hello, 25k trail race rungry!) and omg they were freaking amazing! I mean, I like fried pickles anyway but something about these were fantastic! They had just enough breading and they were fried perfectly! I could have eaten so many more of those delicious things! So we got our food and holy freaking huge delicious hamburger, there was this gorgeous beauty called the Bleu Beard. Bleu cheese and bacon on a toasted bun. I ordered onion rings too, but left the onions off my burger because un-fried onion rings are ew. Everything was hot and fresh and delicious and worth the wait for sure. I don't even remember what hubby got, but he really enjoyed it, whatever it was. He also got pie after and it was good, but his piece was awfully skimpy compared to the people next to us (which is why he ordered it - their piece was HUGE). I had a small bite and it was good, but it wasn't spectacular. This gets a GENEROUS 3 stars. I read so many great reviews, we thought we would stop on our way to Canyon Lake. Should've kept going. To begin with, we waited a while to be seated. And then the host wanted to seat us at a table that had just been disinfected. It was still wet with disinfectant. Apparently they are not aware that disinfectants must dry completely to kill germs. Not to mention spraying an aerosol around food is not wise. We asked for a different table, which apparently was a great imposition for this person. An eye roll and huff later, we were at a different table. I will say that Jennifer, our server who also turned out to be the manager on duty was the only bright spot in our experience. I ordered an omelette with ham, cheddar, mushrooms, tomatoes, and potatoes. The first omelette was burned, as you can see in the picture, it also didn't have my potatoes in it. I wish Jennifer had taken it to show the cook. But whatever! She asked someone else to remake the omelette and this one was MUCH better. Unfortunately, the whole experience took a while, like well over an hour. My advice? Don't waste your time, find something else. It's not worth the frustration!! read more

Hole in the wall, but that's a good thing. Nothing cookie cutter about it - especially the food. Have been here several times for social gatherings as it is a destination we all know and enjoy. The staff isn't your typical depressed millennial that is bored waiting to check their phone. They've always been fun and interactive with good suggestions for foods and desserts. Usually the food is excellent and it wasn't bad today either however the hour plus wait for the sandwich to arrive was utterly ridiculous. Excuse was they were backed up since breakfast. Well that gave them 5 hrs to do something about the slow kitchen. Lacy was a fabulous waitress and I commend her for helping ease a bad situation. I do credit them, Lacy, for not charge for my sandwich as I wasn't happy with it...good customer service which is often lacking these days. This is a compliant post... the food is good and the wait staff is good for the most part but the issue is that this place must make so much money that they can afford to turn away customers. Randomly they decide to tell people that they are not doing to go orders. I have never in my life heard of a restaurant turning customers away by not doing to go orders. We supported you through the pandemic and this is how you repay us. The arrogance and stupidity is laughable. We can't always go inside to eat with small kids and time restraints. It is a convenience that all restaurants provide to their paying customers. It doesn't take up to much time to pack up a to go order. We raad some great reviews and decided to stop on our way through town. We were a bit disappointed. The ambience was great, an ecclectic vintage style with tons of throw back memorabalia. Though it was heavily decorated, it was very clean. We started with some sweet tea served in a large Mason jar, was very good, true southern sweet tea. We chose the fried green tomatoes, meatloaf and the light fair - 1/2 chicken salad sandwich & small garden salad. The fried green tomatoes, we're great! However, this is where the 2 star review comes to play, the portions were huge but the food lacked flavor. The chicken in the chicken salad tasted like boiled chicken thighs and had chunks of fat in it, again, no flavor. First time they forgot a plate after an extended order time. Second time had to find a server after 10 min at the table to order. What fun! A quaint, kinda folksy diner with every thing on the wall that one could find in the old garage and attic, cleaned up and tastefully mounted. The service is polite and down home. The menu has a nice diner like feel with everything one could want from a diner. Be sure to consider half orders. 3 of our 4 got half orders and they were all huge. If the salad was a half order the full order must come in a bucket. The chicken fried steak half order was lapping off the plate. My bacon cheeseburger was done just right, and a quite meaty patty. OK this place is great! I went for dinner (not their rush time) and as soon as I walked in the door, display cases of dessert were calling my name. Big slices of cheesecake, decadent frosting-laden cake, and more. There wasn't a wait for a party of two in the evening, which was nice. I had the chicken tenders, which were just ok. The batter was kind of crispy and pepper-y, served with an also pepper-y gravy which was a little bland for my liking, despite all the black pepper. The fries as a side were good and piping hot, though I wish I got the onion rings that my boyfriend did - they were better! I also had a side salad, which was crispy and fresh with a really good dressing on the side. My BF got the chicken fried steak which was enormous and very tasty. He finished the whole thing and the waitress was in awe and probably slightly appalled! Ha! I want to try the desserts next time, or any of the mouth watering breakfast specialities. Just like homemade, full of flavor and very moist. Mashed potatoes - These seemed a little too dense and lacked flavor, I was thankful for the great brown gravy to flavor them. Green beans - Cooked well with onion and bacon but not too flavorful. Fried okra - Perfectly crispy and served piping hot. Cookies & cream cheesecake - Absolutely divine, I can't say anything more! Chocolate chip cookie - Good flavor by chewier than I prefer, but I think this could have been made worse since the cookies are kept refrigerated with other baked goods. The pot roast was delicious, my wife said it's one of the best she's ever had. The chicken fried chicken was moist with the right crisp, delicious. Went to this cute little cafe with my boyfriend on a whim. Great environment, food was amazing, and the staff were super friendly! We were seated almost immediately. And our waitress was really helpful to let us take our time ordering since it was our first time there. We both got sandwiches with fries (I got the traditional club and he got the buffalo club).
