After my first trip here in the summer of 2020 during the lockdown days, my family have become regular diners here. It's always friends and delicious and filling. If seafood is not your thing, the muffaletta (New Orleans classic sandwich) is a treat. Or try the chicken and sausage gumbo.

NOLA is in Austin!! Fantastic and authentic poboy fully dressed. Really good bread and the catfish was friend perfectly. Service was super friendly and welcoming. I will absolutely be back here. Anyone wanting some authentic New Orleans food should definitely stop for a bite to eat here.

This is a Cajun place, now please keep in mind I am Cajun and I'm kinda tough on places like this because I know what real Cajun food is like. They have things like fish, gator, shrimp, chicken, etc. The gumbo is pretty good though I feel the roux could be darker. But it's solid. We also got the platter with crawfish, fish and shrimp. The fish was good, the shrimp was great and the crawfish tasted like nothing. What a shame! Overall this place is pretty good but it's not somewhere I would want to go again.

Decided to check out Maxine's Gumbo House for the 1st time on Saturday, 03/29/2025 since I was in the mood for some crawfish & just wanted to share my feedback from my visit. - - - Customer Service: 5 star rating (our waitress was very friendly & attentive! ) - - - Food: 3 star rating (food was hot but overall just underwhelming in taste) Ordered 3 lbs of crawfish to eat at restaurant, which comes w/ potatoes & corn, and ordered 1lb to go - crawfish was "okay"...crawfish spice level was good but lacked in juices; the potatoes were soft but tasted very bland. The spices weren't coated evenly over the outside of the potatoes (see pic), as if the potatoes weren't cooked together w/ the crawfish & then only seasoned afterwards, which is why the potatoes lacked flavor & spices not evenly distributed. Gator bites Fried fish Chocolate cake Gumbo - - - Indoor Atmosphere: plenty of indoor tables; was not crowded when we visited - - - Parking Situation: Plenty of parking onsite since Maxine's has own private parking lot To sum it up, I wouldn't describe my experience at Maxine's good or bad..instead I would say that it was "okay". Hope this info helps! Rebecca

Great Cajun and Creole food. We had the NOLAtrio and Stuffed Redfish both excellent. We'll definitely be back. Oh, and ask for Alexis... she was amazing, cheerful, and made our experience A++.

I remember my experience here and it was very pleasant. I had ordered a catfish dinner, a cup of gumbo, and an oyster po boy. The service was good, but I did order carryout, so I can't speak for the dine-in service. They greeted me and handed me the order, and I was pleased that everything was correct. The gumbo was flavored and a decent serving size; you can't go wrong with this. The catfish dinner was delicious. The catfish was perfectly grilled and the white rice was cooked perfectly. The catfish had a nice well-seasoned flavor to it. The oyster po boy was a standout because of the flavor and the oysters being fried to the point that the oyster was crunchy on the outside but tender on the inside. Definitely check them out for quality New Orleans-style food.

We loved the exterior and interior atmosphere at Maxine's Gumbo House. Our waitress was Carrie and she was very sweet and helpful. We ordered the seafood gumbo and boudin to go. While we waited we enjoyed seasonal Mardi Gras Bock from Abita Brewery and they were delicious. I like the glasses they used to serve beer in. They were a nice size and frosty! My husband made a comment about how he that that the crawfish etoufee sounded really good. Carrie commented that it was her favorite item on the menu and offered us a taste. It was the best crawfish etoufee we have ever tried and the spice level was very nice. The boudin was the best that I have ever had! It had a really nice texture and flavor. I have to say that I wish that we had ordered the sausage and chicken gumbo instead of the seafood gumbo. I love oysters but as it turns out I don't like them too much in my gumbo. That could just be a matter of personal preference and my husband had the same thoughts. I noticed too when I looked up the menu later; that the chicken one has a dark roux as opposed to the seafood roux that was lighter in color. Again, totally personal preference. I would definitely return to this restaurant. There are many many other items I would like to try. I am pretty sure my husband will order the crawfish etoufee next time.

A folksy, drama free, and casual ambiance. Enjoying their friendly atmosphere and calm demeanor. Walked in this morning to see they are not as busy as one might think. I feel the overflow parking is from cafe 290. A real cute, cute waitress helped us out this Sunday morning, food plates are very nice sized and plated beautifully. Food has got good flavor. We ordered the Shrimp and grits and the chicken and waffles. Coffee is on point. I just asked the waitress and looks like they are now serving brunch. Epic flavors served here. Should make your way over here on the brunch weekends

Since it was this new and poppin' restaurant on East Cesar Chavez from the team behind De Nada, we had over an hour wait that we didn't take up. Its vibe intrigued me, and I think Cajun food is top five like Tatum with a cut. I decided to prepare only slightly this time. While getting dinner with a friend, we were discussing places when I suggested Lil' Easy. I threw a reservation down for an hour later at one of their numerous dining options. Upon arrival, parking at that little strip of restaurants on East Cesar Chavez is a bit treacherous. If you're not afraid of getting your steps in at 6 pm on a Friday, don't sweat it. Anyone else, good luck. There are a lot of different seating arrangements at Lil' Easy: the true outdoor patio with fans and umbrellas, the climate-controlled outdoor space that still brings the sun while still pumping A/C, and the traditional indoor space. Plenty of seating. The entire place was decorated with Mardi Gras beads and colors. Off the rip, we had to set the tone: I ordered a Pimm's Cup while my friend got some secret frozen swirl. We had to throw down an order of the Crawfish Queso as well. The food and drinks were served so quickly, we questioned if it was ours. The queso was De Nada's signature queso with Crawfish Étouffée mixed in. There are no tortilla chips on the side, but instead toasted bread. It's kinda like a DIY Crostini. The crawfish's flavor is a unique and savory balance to the cheesiness of the queso. Very delightful. We crushed it. My friend wanted to go wild. Another appetizer?? Their Shrimp Cocktail was thrown down immediately after ordering. The shrimp was great, but those house pickles were sneakily one of the best things they served us. Living the high life. Speaking of that, I ordered a High Life Pony as we made our main orders: a Fried Catfish Po'Boy and Fried Oyster Po'Boy. Both cut down the middle so we could have a little this, a little that. I think the bread, the catfish and the oysters, and the fries served alongside it were all incredible. My only issue was that the catfish po'boy had horseradish in it. That is a me issue, and I don't know why I can't stand horseradish. I don't know if it was hiding in their coleslaw or their rémoulade, but something was horseradish-y! I'd get the oyster po'boy again and again though! We closed the night with me being fun as I ordered their Frozen Espresso Martini with sprinkles and whipped cream because some other lady sitting nearby had that, and I WANTED TO BE FUN TOO. My friend got herself the seasonal nonalcoholic Arnold Palmer that was spiked with some Deep Eddy Lemon Vodka. Hers was great, but mine was basically a milkshake. I looked like a joyous kid with my drink. I was so very happy. They do give you lids for your drinks if you want to take them with you, but I planned to finish mine then and there. The gimme cups are also a nice touch and have their cute alligator mascot on them. Throughout the night, we could not believe how fast the service was at getting our meals and our drinks to us. Our waitress was absolutely on point the entire time we were there, constantly checking in on us and being extremely friendly and helpful in making sure we chose the right things and had a good meal ahead of us. Lil' Easy is casual, fun, and absolutely delicious. They have some of the best frozens in Austin, and their food is some of the best seafood and Cajun food I've had in Austin, hands down. She was a new server and new to Lil' Easy. We decided to try a variety of items including fried shrimp, French fries, sausage and chicken gumbo, garlic and parmesan oysters and hush puppies. The food was as good as the food you will find in NOLA. The standouts for me was the gumbo, oysters and hush puppies. The gumbo was flavorful and well-seasoned...I savored every bite. I do not like anything slimy including oysters. Given that these oysters were cooked, I took the oyster plunge. They came out steaming hot almost burning my fingers...so delightful to eat. The hush puppies were delicious...crisp but not overly crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. Definitely returning...

Ca and Dallas ones are 10000% much better.. tasting wise, but I've also never been to a boiling crab where they've messed up the sauce?? cuz cmon! the sauce is the best part!!! -Sausages are TINY compared to other boiling crab restaurants we've been to -I don't normally dip my crawfish in the lime/salt&pepper cuz you honestly don't really need it, but I dipped it in there for every single bite this time around.. hence, the sauce.... -Menus on napkin holder aka QR code -Gloves were the only solid thing here! We will not be frequenting this boiling crab location anymore. Waste of money! Overall, boiling crab is honestly like the best besides all the waiting, but if the sauce isn't good, then it's not worth it cuz you really are there for the sauce. Parking spots are limited near the restaurant, and people ought to park better cuz some people just can't park. Get there early to avoid that and to lessen your wait time. The music gets very loud - great for the vibe, but not ideal if you're trying to have a conversation across the table. Service can also be quite slow, especially during peak times, so patience is key. Overall, Down South Cajun Eats is perfect if you're in the mood for flavorful seafood and a party-like environment - but maybe not the best pick for a quiet dinner.

I made my way back for the pound cake waffle and I'm sure I'll be back multiple times. Note that…read morethe waffle itself isn't a special menu item but, they make all of their waffles using a pound cake batter. I ordered MoMo's Breakfast Plate. It includes Grits, eggs, bacon, sausage, breakfast potatoes with your choice of waffles or French toast. This is a LOT of food for the price. Everything was also very well seasoned. I didnt need syrup on my waffle or any butter/sugar (yes I'm that girl) in my grits. I left very satisfied and would go for their brunch every weekend if I could.
